26/05/05 - Summer Slowdown
As the close season kick's in good and proper it's safe to say that stories over the next 4 weeks will slow down, but as ever I will do my best to cover news stories that come about, whilst at the same time building several new features for the new season.
So if over the next few weeks stories don't appear everyday don't panic the site is in full working order, as well as news I will bee keeping you updated on the AFC Wimbledon community events as well.
25/05/05 - NZ Vs Aus Last Chance
After posting about the Australia vs New Zealand game on Thursday 9th June 2005 I have already had over 30 people who want to go, so if you wish to go please email before Friday morning so I can contact fulham about the tickets. To contact me send me an email to here as quickly as possible.
24-05-05 Lord Alun of Armstrong
After last night's edition of New Tricks we all knew Alun was a big fan but he rose to new levels, and fortunately thanks to two groups of fans I have an audio clip of possibly the highlight of the show as well as a video clip of it and then secondly a video clip when Alun's character talks to his Arsenal supporting son. A big thanks to The Lonsdale's and also Vic supplied the clips, and of course the BBC for commissioning such a great series and in fact after this series has finished two more series are being filmed so who knows what else we might see.
Any way here are the clips.
Update if you have a mobile phone that can also play videos Vic has managed to convert the videos into 3gp format and the files can also be downloaded below: -
Don't forget the first series (this is series 2) can be purchased on Amazon via the link a bit further down the page.
24/05/05 - NZ Vs Aus
As you may have seen on the Official Site Shane Smeltz has confirmed he will be staying with us for next season and his first game since this announcement could well be for New Zealand vs Australia in a friendly game at Craven Cottage on Thursday 9th June with a 19:45. It looks like the game will have a very big crowd so it would be nice if a group of wombles could get together. So if you would be interested in going to the game with other AFC Wimbledon fans drop me an email here with an idea of how many tickets you may be want, and Adults, concessions or Juniors the plan would be to sit in the Putney end which is the New Zealand end. I will then try nd organise a group booking for us. More information can be found here.
23/05/05 - New Tricks Monday

20-05-05 - Good Luck Gav & Rand's
The official Site yesterday announced the departures of Gavin Bolger and Martin Randall, Just like to wish them both all the best although Gavin has been with us for the longer time just like to say I think Martin has done great job with us as well this season both on and off the pitch, and it was nice to see both of them at The Family Fun Day last Sunday.
20/05/05 - Off To The Seaside?
It looks like our away pre-season friendly game that is unconfirmed at the moment could be a trip to Bognor as the bognor web site has announced this. It is listed as a 12:30 kick off, and as we played them at the start of the season just finished could be an opportunity to repay the favor.
I have had a look at rough train times time and it looks like a 9am approximate departure from Wimbledon would get you down there in time for Kick off. More details nearer thee time.19/05/05 - Looks Like No Changes For Premier
It looks like the League announced last week has remained unchanged, the proposed placing of Hornchurch into Ryman 1 has not taken place with them going into Essex Senior League, and Chesunt who haven't been relegated from Step 3 have been placed in the Southern Premier League
19/05/05 - Remember Dunstable? Rob Does
The 2nd October 2004 seems like a long time ago and who would think that one of our players who played on that day in the FA Cup at Dunstable would be getting ready for an appearance at The Cup final this Saturday. Seems mad but this is the case for Rob Ursell who is attending Cardiff this weekend and will be pervaded on the pitch at half time as one of the Player's of the round.
So enjoy the trip Rob and lets hope that we get a chance to see you and some of the action from that game during Saturday's BBC TV coverage.18/05/05 - League's Confirmed / Changed Thursday?
Tomorrow the FA meet for a meeting which should be a simple case of confirming the leagues announced last week at Non League level for the 2005/06 season, but due to two clubs dropping out of steps in the top 4 it looks like a number of changes will be made.
With Hornchurch dropping out of Conference south possibly into Ryman 1 maidenhead will remain in conference South and a suggestion going round is that Slough and Windsor & Eton will move to the Southern League with Chesunt who were relegated to Ryman 1 remaining in Ryman Premier and also Northwood moving back across.
Once details have been confirmed and released I will update next years League tables for any changes that are needed.
17/05/05 - BBC World Service
Very late on Monday night Erik Samuelson the Club's financial Director was interviewed by the BBC World Service in an interview that ended up being about setting up a football club the file size is 5.8 meg and thanks to Donsonline who were still awake and managed to record this and have forwarded to me to host. To listen to the clip click here.
17/05/05 - New Singings
Two brand new signings have been announced and confirmation that one player who was with us last season will be joining us on a permanent basis. Sonny Farr has joined confirmed his signing from Queens Park Rangers, whilst thee two new signing are Simon Sobihy who played against us for Walton & Hersham this year and took most of the free-kicks and corners for them, Barry Moore has joined from Lewes where he was captain, Lewes qualified for the Conference South play-off but due to problems with the ground were unable to take part in the play-offs.
From early indications these are two very good players.
17/05/05 - Partial Poll Results

16/05/05 - NEW TRICKS TONIGHT
Sorry for the late notice but a reminder at 21:00 on BBC1 tonight Alun Armstrong is on in the drama New Tricks if you saw last weeks show you will remember that plenty of AFC Wimbledon merchandise was on display during the show. So lets hope for more of the same tonight.
16/05/05 - Fun In The Sun
Well the Sun shone and everyone had fun that was the main thing so well done to everyone involved in the Fun Day Yesterday. Working on the Photo stall it was a very busy afternoon and thanks to the players and staff who spent time having pictures taken, I am sure they will be taking pride of place in many homes very soon.
15/05/05 - Funday Today
It's the fun day at Kingsmeadow today and it looks like it will be a cracking day, Events get under way at 11:00 and go on all the way through to 16:00 admission is free and of course you get the chance to have a picture taken with the Surrey Senior Cup, Ryman 1 League Championship and also a Player or two. Talking to the lads at the Charity game yesterday they were all looking forward to it.
So pop down bring some friends and have a good afternoon as the curtain on the 2004/05 season comes to an official end.15/05/05 - Third Best Programme
It looks like the results of the annual Wirral Programme Club Non league Programme of the year have been announced for the 2004/05 season have been announced.
The report is a very in depth analysis of Club Programme's based on a number of factors like, price, pictures, statistics, if you consider that every senior club has to produce a programme the number of teams involved is very high. Although the full result is not online it would appear we came third with the top 10 clubs being Exeter, York City, AFC Wimbledon, Woking, Morecambe, Buckland, Hoddesdon, Carlisle, Bath City & Horsham so well done to the people who contribute to the programme.14/05/05 - Fun At Northwood
This afternoon was the charity game at Northwood and although the professional team led by Les Ferdinand won 4-2 the AF C Wimbledon contingent of Robert Ursell, Martin Randall and Chris Gell all did very well, Rob did some of his usual tricks and Rand's had a couple of chances. In the end it was a good fund raising day for Macmillan Cancer so well done to Chris, Martin and Rob on representing the club at this event.
13/05/05 - Another Table To Digest
After uploading the league Table for next season I wondered what the table would look like based on League Results this season? Well in combining the data on Tony Kempster's site and a few basic excel skills I have managed to come up with the table on the following Link Click Here.
13/05/05 - And Now It Is!
So whilst, I am working hard the FA and Ryman League decide it would be fun to announce the 'Confirmed' line up for the 2005/06 season, so sorry about the delay in putting the information up but he we go.
Ryman have extended their sponsorship of the Isthmian league and therefore once again that will be the brand name of the league we are in. The teams that we will be up against are as follows: - Billericay Town FC, Braintree Town FC, Bromley FC, Chelmsford City FC, East Thurrock United FC,Fisher Athletic FC, Folkestone Invicta FC, Hampton & Richmond Borough FC, Harrow Borough FC,
Hendon FC, Heybridge Swifts FC, Leyton FC, Maldon Town FC, Margate FC, Redbridge FC,
Slough Town FC, Staines Town FC, Walton & Hersham FC, Wealdstone FC, Windsor & Eton FC, Worthing FC. To start with I have added the League Table in alphabetical order, the Fixture list with pre-season games on it and also the Calendar has been updated with the pre-season games. As we are in transition stage at the moment of the two season please use the following links for the League Table and Fixture list, as some people may wish to still view the 04/05 seasons details. Over the next few weeks as we await the fixtures being announced I will provide more detail on the coming season.
12/05/05 - No Confirmed News Yet
It looks like it will be a week before the teams in the 'step 3 divisions' are confirmed several rumors are doing the rounds and these all suggest we will be in Ryman Premier next season.
Talking of promotion congratulations to Walton Casuals who won the Combined Counties league and have been confirmed in Ryman 1 for next season.12/05/05 - More Youth Champions
On Wednesday night we saw two more championships come our way as both the Under 11's and Under 15's won their leagues. It was a special night for both age groups as the matches were played at Kingsmeadow. The Under 11's started off the evening winning 2-1 to wrap up the league title. Next up was a game with a difference as the Under 15's were trying to win the league the thing was the game involved AFC Wimbledon Youth against AFC Wimbledon Colts, Only a huge victory for the 'youth' side could stop 'Colts' being champions and make youth champions and in the end it finished 1-1 and therefore Colts were declared champions, so congratulations to all three sides and a brilliant season all round.
11/10/05 - Is Today The Day?
Today is due to be the day that the FA sit down and try and work out who goes where in the leagues next season. Is it just me or does anyone else have a vision of the World Cup draw where they had to draw it loads of times because teams who had played each other in the qualifiers couldn't meet?
In Theory it should be a fairly simple task with teams split on regional basis with 3 divisions being in place at our level for next season. So With The Northern Teams being in one area, then the remaining teams need to be split between the isthmian and Southern Leagues. Looking at the excellent Tony Kempster Maps one of the problems could be that the FA wants to make a lot more regional stability as after this years they will try not to move teams across leagues i.e. southern to isthmian league for a period of 3 years. To accomplish this for next season a couple of teams look like they may have had to be moved notably Salisbury, Slough and windsor & Eton from Isthmian to Southern leagues. So it looks like the Isthmian League could well become a south East League next Season. It may take a few days for all the details to come out but once these are know I will post details. Here are some provisional dates for your diary for the 2005/06 Season: - 20/08/2005 - First Day Of The Season 10/09/2005 - 1st FA Cup Qualifying Round - This was the round that Step 3 clubs joined in 2004/05 Season.15/10/2005 - 1st FA Trophy Qualifying Round - This was the round that Step 3 clubs joined in 2004/05 Season, but next season this will be the opening round so may be the following round which will be played on 12/11/2005.
10/05/05 - Sunday Funday
This Sunday is the Family Fun Day and they are always brilliant days. Events get under way at 11:00 and go on to 16:00 and entrance is free. One of the big highlights will be a chance to have your picture taken with an AFC Wimbledon Player, The Ryman 1 and Surrey Senior Cup and if this is anything like last year will be very popular.
If you know anyone who can display a poster click on the following PDF link and print it out, and then display in as many places as possible. Remember the day is not just about AFC Wimbledon a number of other local community groups will be present and it's a good chance to show the work we do in the community.10/05/05 - The Northwood Three
With the Non-League Domestic season over it's a chance for a few fun games to take place and on Saturday one of interest that is taking place is at Northwood Football Club where money is being raised for Macmillan Cancer Relief the game is being played at Northwood Football Club on Saturday with a 2pm kick off and in the Non-League All-Stars team Chris Gell, Robert Ursell and Martin Randall are all due to be in attendance so if you fancy watching a fun game and raising some money for a good cause pop along to the game this weekend.
10/05/05 - What Did You Spot?
So did you watch BBC1's New Trick's last night well if you didn't you would of missed the AFC Wimbledon Merchandise Store on tour. During the hour long show you would of seen shot's of a framed programme on his desk, An AFC Wimbledon pennant hanging from the wall, Alun wearing an item of merchandise with the Badge in full view, A programme binder and some very close shot's of A Dons Trust Mug which was held in view for about 40 seconds just before the end of the programme.
This is the first of 8 programme's in the series and I understand that they haven't used the full wardrobe of props that they have in stock, so keep an eye out during next weeks episode and see what we can see.09/05/05 - BBC1 Tonight
Tonight on BBC1 is a new series of the drama "New Tricks" staring Alun Armstrong, as you may no Alun is an AFC Wimbledon fan and in both the pilot and first series was seen to have items showing his support for thee club in shot's including wearing an AFC Wimbledon shirt.
well I don't know what we will see in this series but it may be worth watching to see what you can spot. If anyone does see anything post details on the message board and we will see how many items are used during the show.08/05/05 - Play Off Round Up
So we know of the promotion of Bromley yesterday but's let's do a round up of the play offs games that look like they will have some sort off impact on us next season.
Joining the ryman 1 teams at step 3 will be Malden Town, in Essex, who won on penalties against Uxbridge yesterday. In the Ryman premier league Eastleigh move up to the Conference South after they beat Leyton in the final. One other Play-off final result of note was the victory of AFC Telford who only 9 months ago were playing their first competitive game and yesterday won 2-1 against Kendall in font of 4,215 people. The "Peter Snow" of Non League football Tony Kempster has updated his prediction for the new set-up of Non-League football next season, this is due to be confirmed on this Wednesday but due to issues in the Northern League and also appeals about ground grading from 2 step 5 clubs including Walton casuals this may be delayed. but the maps show how Tony thinks the leagues will be, We will be at Step 3 and below the list is the Map showing all the locations of grounds. you can view the list and maps by clicking here.08/05/05 - Cup Final Man Of The Match Result
The result of the final Man Of The Match poll of the season, the cup final against Walton & hersham is as follows: -
The Whole Team 63 Votes 41.72%Robert Ursell 32 Votes 21.19%
Richard Butler 16 Votes 10.60%
Chris Gell 9 Votes 5.96%
John-Barrie Bates 6 Votes 3.97%
mark Cooper 5 Votes 3.31%
Steve Gibson 5 Votes 3.31%
Shane Smeltz 4 Votes 2.65%
Ryan Gray 3 Votes 1.99%
Steve Butler 3 Votes 1.99%
Gavin Bolger 2 Votes 1.32%
Anthony Howard 2 Votes 1.32%
Danny Naisbitt 1 Votes 0.66% Just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has voted this season, and over the next few weeks I will be producing some statistics about this seasons polls.
08/05/05 - Amazon Shop
It's been another good week for the Amazon shop on the site and remember that every sale sees funds raised for the Stadium fund. All you need to do is click the Amazon link on the left hand side and then click on any items you wish to buy once the items are dispatched to you commission is added to the account and then passed on to The Stadium Fund.
08/05/05 - Soccer AM Clip
As promised the clip that was shown on Soccer AM yesterday morning was recorded by the Donsonline team due to the heavy use of the Donsonline service following the Cup final on Tuesday evening I am hosting a copy of the clip on this site. If you haven't seen it you can by clicking here the clip is 8.3mb in size.
07/05/05 - Congratulations To The Reserves
Today the reserves had a really hard task on their hands if they wanted any chance of possible promotion, due to a game being called off the other week and the season needing to be finished today they had to play 2 games in the day, so the first one kicked off at 11:30 after a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Antony "Freddie" Myers (who plays for the under 18's) and an own goal.
The second game kicked off at 16:00 and thanks to goals from mark King, Jones Bamfo and Robert Ursell saw us get a 3-1 victory so now it's a case of waiting for the score line from Lewes vs Tooting and as the game finished a draw it meant the reserved had finished 3rd in the table. It's normally only the top 2 clubs who get promoted but apparently Havant & WaterlooVille who currently fill one of the top two place have indicated that they may be withdrawing from the league so the suggestion was that the team who finished 3rd would be give promotion. We will have to wait and see what happens.07/05/05 - Congratulations Bromley
This afternoon Bromley won the Ryman Division 1 play-off when they beat Horsham 3-1 at Horsham in front of a crowd of 1,109.
Horsham had a great chance to get off to a good start but after being awarded a penalty this was saved. Bromley took the lead when Wade Falana finished from close range 2 minutes before half time Horsham were back in game when Jamie Taylor scored but they ended up going in at half time 2-1 down when what looked like a cross from well out wide went over the keeper and into the back of the net. In the second half Horsham failed to make any really threatening chances and on 75 minutes Bromley were awarded a penalty approximately 25 yards out and it was fired over the wall and into the back of the net, to put them 3-1 up. The final whistle saw delight for the Bromley players and supporters and major disappointment for Horsham. So it looks like we will be visiting Bromley next season.07/03/05 - Play-Off Final
This afternoon the Ryman league play-offs take place and in Division 1 Horsham are at home to Bromley in the 3rd vs 4th game, I will be in attendance at this game and will be providing major incident flashes from the game on the matchday live service.
In the Ryman Premier division Eastleeigh who finished 3rd face Leyton who finished 5th Remember only 1 team went up automatically, and Leyton got into the play-offs on the least day of the season. It's possible that we could well be in the same division next season as the winners of the Division 1 game and losers of the Premier game so both games are of interest to us. If you fancy seeing a AFC Wimbledon side in action today get yourself down to Kingsmeadow where the reserves will be playing 2 games, the first kick's off at 11:30 and the second at 16:00 these are both league games and if we were to win both there is a possibility that the team could be promoted to the Suburban League Premier division. So if you get a chance pop down to Kingsmeadow and cheer the lads on.07/03/05 - Soccer AM Today
This morning apparently at some time between 09:00 and 09:30 the Sky TV football show Soccer AM will be having a feature called "The Nutmeg Files" this is a feature where a player get me egged during a game and this weeks feature will start Ryan Gray's double meg on the Walton & Hersham team on Tuesday evening. Yes the excellent donsonline team have sent sky the clip and having liked it requested a DVD quality version which was supplied.
As I imagine most people will miss this or may not have sky TV donsonline hope to record the feature and then supply it for me to host, sd soon as I get the clip I will make it available for all to view.06/05/05 - Under 18's Season Ends
Last night the Under 18's season came to an end when they lost 3-2 in extra time to a very good Lewes team. Lewes are also in the League Cup final so could end up winning both competitions next week.
We took the lead in the first minute when Bradley Drake fired home. Lewes then scored two goals but just before half time a lewes player handled a goal bound shot a yard out and we were awarded a penalty, but no booking, Bradley scored the penalty. no goals followed in the next hour before lewes scored 5 minutes into extra time. The game was possibly one of the best displays of the season, but although we went out, it's been a brilliant season so well done to everyone involved this season.05/05/05 - Polling Day
Right it's polling day so lets have a vote, it's a tough one this month so to vote click the link here the second question on the vote is to what part of the country you are calling from so we can have a full results service with breakdown by area . Enjoy and the vote will close early Friday morning so that everyone can get a chance to vote.
05/05/05 - Under 18's Tonight
The Under 18's play the Champions Play-of game tonight against Lewes in a 19:30 kick off at Kingsmeadow, this is potentially the final home game of the season for the Under 18's so come down and cheer the lads on for what has been a Champions winning season.
04/05/05 - DA Likes Cup's
Well it was clear all yesterday what the day meant to Dave Anderson and on the final whistle over the moon wasn't a phrase to describe it. Read Dave's comments on the Official site and you can see what it means to him.
But here is an amazing statistic to consider this is the 4th year on the trot that a team managed by Dave Anderson has won a County Cup, yes in the last four years he has won 3 Middlesex County Cups and now the surrey Senior Cup, what an incredible record. Well done Dave and all the Management and players.04/05/05 - Play-Off Drama
Whilst we were going through the tension of a cup final that went to Extra Time, it wasn't the only game that had extra time, in fact both Ryman 1 games went to extra time with the Bromley Vs Met Police game went to penalties.
In fact all three games (including ours were 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes) in the Horsham Vs Cray game Horsham scored twice in extra time and went through 3-1. In the Bromley Vs Met Police game it was level at the end of extra time so penalties were needed and Bromley won 4-3 So the final on Saturday will see Bromley visit Horsham in what has ended up as the 33rd and 4th teams in the league. I will be doing a preview on Friday on this game.04/05/05 - BHT MOM Result
After yesterday morning (Tuesday) I said the Man Of The Match vote for the Burgess Hill Town vote was still open, but when I set it up I put the wrong finish time so if you didn't get a chance to vote sorry but the result is as follows: -
Anthony Howard 25 Votes 54.35%Gavin Bolger 10 Votes 21.74%
Chris Gell 3 Votes 6.52%
Martin Randall 3 Votes 6.52%
matt Martin. 1 Vote 2.17%

04/05/05 - Man Of the Match Vote
Now up and running after last nights game.
03/05/05 - How Good Does It Get?
Wow, Stunning, Amazing what a night what a club, A brilliant night saw us win the Surrey Senior Cup 2-1 with Goals from Smeltz and Richard Butler but what a tight game, after taking the lead we were pulled back when the ref awarded a penalty for Walton which they scored. With the scores level at half time it took another 52 minutes for the next goal when Richard Butler scored to send the majority of the 3,800 crowd wild and secure the cup for us.
Shattered now through a mixture of adrenalin, and a busy day and need to be up early tomorrow so full round up tomorrow night.03/05/05 - Cup Final Day
So we have covered the play-offs but their is no doubt about what is the biggest game in England today, Tonight the top two clubs in the division meet with Silverware on the line, No stop thinking about some silly European game that's only 11st vs 4th and is only a Semi Final we are now talking about the Big One.
SURREY SENIOR CUP FINAL - AFC WIMBLEDON VS WALTON & HERSHAM
In the two games this season we won the first 3-1 which included the stunning Joe Sheerin goal. But away on the day we could of won the League Walton & Hersham won 4-0. In what was a very disappointing display, on the day it was a must win game for Walton and I am sure tonight we wont see the same outcome. Woking has many great memories none more than the Cup Final last year and we know after hearing from the players how much the atmosphere helped them, remember we went 1-0 down. So Lets pack the stand and have 90 minutes backing the lads, this is the last competitive game of the season and could well be close. If you cant make Woking tonight for any reason, I will be doing my best to provide text updates but some times on these occasions the nerves get to me and I forget so if I do sorry in advance. And if you want a singsong, even if it doesn't rhyme. And I know other versions were done on Saturday. Show Me The Way To Premier Football,Scoring Goals in Blue & Yellow
We Are The Team Who Wont be Forgotten,
We Are The Famous Wimbledon.
COME ON YOU DONS
03/05/05 - Play-off Games
Tonight both of the Semi Finals of the Ryman 1 play-off games are being played and the matches are: -
Horsham who finished 3rd Vs Cray Wanderers Who finished 6th andBromley Who Finished 4th Vs Met Police Who Finished 5th.
It was only a few weeks ago that Bromley and Met Police met at Bromley in the league and played out a 1-1 draw but with the game being over just 1 game the match will have to be played to a finish, looking at the form guide you would expect Bromley to win this game. At Christmas Bromley won 2-0 at the Met.
In the other game. It was a 2-2 draw in the earlier part of the season at Cray and a 3-2 victory for Horsham, at Horsham. The form guide is difficult to read as Horsham have been on a very bad run of results before saturday's 5-0 victory over Ashford Town, including 4 goals for Jamie Taylor. and with the two teams being such big scorers it could be an interesting game and I reckon that Horsham could well win it In the Ryman Premier division one of the games is also being played and it's Billericay Town Vs Leyton. You would expect Billericay to win this match.03/05/05 - Burgess Hill Man Of Match Vote
With the game tonight the Man Of The Match vote for Saturday's game will be closing round about kick off time, so if you haven't voted yet please do so by clicking the link below: -
03/05/05 - Defeat For Under 9's
yesterday the Under 9's were in cup final action, unfortunately they went down 2-0 but well done to all the lads and management on reaching the final and I am sure you will be picking up trophies in years to come.
02/05/05 - Travel Tomorrow

Cu through the park, passing Westfield FC and you will come to Woking FC. Don't forget Kickoff is at 19:30 and if you arrive early you should be able to buy flags, scarves and badges.02/05/05 - Amazon Shop

01/05/05 - Up's & Down's Results
In The end the teams in the play-off positions in Ryman 1 all got through So Tuesday night see's Cray visit Horsham, Whilst Met police visit Bromley, with thee final on Saturday.
In the Ryman Premier Division Hampton missed out on a play-off space after 3 defeats in a week have seen them lose two cup finals. Leyton filled the last play-off space, at the bottom of the table thee final relegation place couldn't be separated by points or goal difference so it went to goals scored and Wealdstone having scored more goals stayed up and Chesunt went down. The drama got bigger the higher you got up the pyramid and in Conference South. Carshalton needed to beat play-off chasing Eastbourne Borough to be safe and they did so it then fell to the game between Newport County and madstone United to see who would go down, with Newport needing a win to stay up, final score Newport 2 Maidenhead 1 so Maidenhead drop to step 3 next season. The next week sees the play-off take place and we find out what teams will be moving up or staying where they are.01/05/05 - Sun, Goals & An Emu
What a way to end the season a very much party atmosphere was in evidence in Burgess Hill and what a way to end it, Two open top busses were filled with wombles with a number of them in fancy dress, or was that what they normally dress like?
In a scorching hot day we descended on sussex in numbers like all games this season and a side that saw a number of usual starting players rested and the chance for a few youngsters to have a run out. John Boswell and Mark King who have both played for the Under 18's, Reserves and the first team now this season, started and in fact played thee full game. The game almost seemed a sideshow but we soon began to take control and after hitting the bar 3 times we went in 1-0 up after Antony Howard fired in a thunderbolt of a goal, shame one of our visitors who had flown in from Los Angeles that lunchtime was at the bar when we scored, nice one SoCalDon. The second half saw us get two more goals, first of all Martin Randall had a simple finish after another effort crashed against the bar. Our final goal of the day was a nice finish by Gavin Bolger for his first league goal of the season and didn't he celebrate after running round with his top off he fell to the floor where the whole team dived on him including everyone from the bench and it looked like they pulled his shorts down. Even Burgess Hill pulling a goal back couldn't put any sort of downer on the atmosphere. Then when the final whistle blew one of the funniest pitch invasions ever took place where a few of the people in fancy dress ran on to the pitch seeing Batman, Fred Flintstone running towards the players being chassed by an Emu was hilarious. Thee Emu can only be described for people with longer memories as Bernie Clifton's old Marathon outfit. Well done Lee.01/05/05 - Day 2 Of Walkers Route
Here is the route that the Walkers took on Day two of the "Walk Further To Wimbledon".
08:30 - Depart Overnight base in Horsham, where they were joined by some additional people for the final 15 miles of the Journey.10:12 - Passing Through Lower Beeding.
10:43 - Passing Warninglid
11:46 - Crossing the M23 and the 60km mark reached.
12:20 - Arrived In Ansty
At this point Soundman who had done the complete route and Tintin who had done just day two decided to run the final 3 miles, as they were ahead of everyone else and had to wait for the rest to all arrive together they stopped off for a well deserved pint. It was around 13:30 that they al arrived at the ground. Well done to everyone involved. As well as all raising personal sponsorship we had a bucket collection outside the ground with the proceeds being split 50/50 between the two clubs, even though Burgess Hill said they didn't want any of it. In total just under £150 was raised so about £75 for each club, thanks to everyone who put money into the bucket.
