The first team had a 1-1 draw Matt Everard put us 1-0 up after 2 minutes but Harrow leveled in the second half. Andy Sullivan came on in the second half so lets hope his injury problems are over.

31/07/04 - No Text Updates Today

I wont be at the game at Harrow Borough today so there will be no text updates sorry about this.

31/07/04 - Results From Last Few Days

Sorry about the lack of updates over the last few days but things have been a bit busy. On Thursday night both the Under 18's and the reserves were in action although the reserves had a number of first team player in the team. The Under 18's lost 4-2 at Whyteleafe and the Reserves won 9-0 at Bedfont Sports the goals in the Reserve game were as follows, Joe Sheerin, Jones Bamfo and Rob Hill who all got 2 goals each and Marc Skinner, Leon McDowell and Lewis Taylor who score one goal each.

28/07/04 - Good Luck Seb

The Official Site has announced that Seb Favata is leaving and has comments from both Seb and Dave Anderson. Seb has been a real star for us and I wish him all the best although I am sure he will pop in to a game and say hello and goodbye to everyone.

28/07/04 - Under 18's Tonight

Tonight the Under 18's are playing at Whyteleafe in a pre-season game. will provide a report and pictures over the next few days. If you fancy coming to the game it's a 7:30 kick off at the ground where we played Chipstead in the league and Whyteleafe in the pre-season game last year in church road. Kick off is at 19:30.

28/07/04 - Squad Watch

The Official Site has details of seven more players who have agreed deals with Dave Anderson, So I Will try and break down all the players who have been mentioned so far.

Goalkeepers - Danny Naisbitt - Paul Smith
Defenders - Steve Gibson - Darren Dobinson - Matt Everard - Steve Butler - Antony Howard
Midfield Chris Gell - Ryan Gray - Gavin Bolger - Gareth Graham -
Strikers Martin Randall - Richard Butler - Joe Sheerin - Rob Ursell

I think I have listed everyone but will make changes if they come about. Also Dave mentions on the Official Site about no one new has been released and injured players will be looked at once they are fit.

Quick Update

Tonight we played our latest pre-season game and we ended up with a 1-1 draw at Conference side Gravesend and Northfleet. We took the lead on 16 minutes when Gavin Bolger beat the off side trap and slotted past the keeper. Gravesend's goal came on about the 70 minute mark when a free kick was awarded to them and it was headed in at the back post.

I thought it was a game where we had the better of the first half and they did in the second but a draw was a fair result. Steve butler made his AFC Wimbledon debut but luckily Dave took off Richard Butler at the same time as brining on Steve. Danny Naisbitt had an impressive game and pulled off some good saves during the game. The majority of the side today was based on the 2003/04 team and they all put in a good performance.

26/07/04 - Pictures From Barnet

The photo's I took on Saturday at the Barnet game can be viewed here as with all match pics by clicking on them you can view a large 800 by 600 version of the picture.

25/07/04 - Danny Departs And Search For A Goal

The Official Site has confirmed that Danny Oakins has left the club over the past few weeks there have been suggestions of Danny joining Aldershot and Sutton United. Dave's comments on Danny's departure can be found on the Official Site but just like to wish Danny all the best and hope we can see him down at Kingsmeadow when he is not playing. All the best Danny.

At yesterday's game the two normal sources for filming games were not present so on the off chance did anyone film Robert Ursell's second goal if they did I would love to host the clip if possible. So if you do have it can you please drop me an e-mail.

25/07/04 - Poll Result And New Question

The result of the poll - "Have You seen A Fans Club The Musical" was as follows: -
1. Yes 17 Votes (40%)
2. Yes More Than Once 0 Vote (0%)
3. No Seeing it this week 9 Votes (21%)
4. No couldn't get tickets during this run 7 Votes (17%)
5. No - Too far to come and see it 9 Votes (21%)

Thanks to everyone who voted and if you didn't get a chance to see it there is a suggestion that it may have another run in 2005 due to the success that it had.

I have now added a new question regarding Dave Anderson's Question and Answer session that was held on Friday night and what you thought of it both if you were at the ground or listened on Radio Wdon. If you did miss it I believe that there may be an audio file of it that will either be transcribed in a match programme or on the official site and possibly a replay of the file on the web as well so keep an eye out and you may be able to find it.

24/07/04 - Dodgy Barnet Dashing Dons

Last weekend Barnet played at home to Arsenal and Arsenal after falling behind ended up 10-1 winners with the clubs being 5 levels apart, the same as us and Barnet a number of people went into this game thinking would the gap show and could we end up on the wrong end of a big score line?

On a brilliant summers afternoon Kingsmeadow had a healthy crowd in it for the first game of the season and with a large number of the crowd in the new kit and the whole day had a nice feel about it. Danny Naisbitt lead the team out which I imagine was due to this being against his old club and we started by attacking the West Bank End of the ground. The game was delayed for 15 minutes as Barnet had got caught on the Motorway and didn't arrive until 14:30.

Right from the off we were straight on the attack and forced a number of corners. And then just after the 15 minute mark the Barnet Keeper was forced into a mistake when he kicked the ball straight to Robert Ursell on the edge of the box and he rounded the keeper before putting the ball into the back of the net and 1-0 to the dons.

We continued to push forward and then one of them magic moments that make you sit up came upon us. At the half hour mark was almost on us Ursell curled in a brilliant goal one that had everyone thinking "Wow what a player we have here". We were now 2-0 up against a conference side who had reached the play-off's last season and at half time we were 2-0 up.

The second half saw Richard Butler come on to replace Jamie Taylor who had played really well there were a number of changes during the second half including Steve Gibson for Matt Everard, Jay Conroy replaced by Seb Favata, Martin Randall replaced by Jones Bamfo and Gareth Graham by Chris Head. As the game came to an end Richard Butler was fouled in the penalty box and Stephen Cook pointed to the spot for Robert Ursell to fire home his and our third goal of the day.

The result but more so the performance was a really good one. Gavin Bolger had a brilliant header smash against the bar in the first half and the return of Matt Everard as well as the first chance to have a proper look at Richard Butler will see the squad begin to take shape. The next game is on Tuesday when we play another conference side in Gravesend and Northfleet so it should be interesting to see how we get on.

24/07/04 - Barnet Game Today

Today we have our first home pre-season game when we play Barnet at Kingsmeadow at 3pm. Both Radio Wdon and my match texts will be in operation so if you cant make the game and are near a computer you should be able to keep up with the action. If you are driving to the game there are roadwork's along the Kingston road near the ground so a suggestion is to go down coombe road and then turn to the bottom of Gloucester Road at the bottom turn left and the ground is about 100 yards on your right.

23/07/04 - Friday Fright Night

Well that's how it must have seemed to Dave Anderson and John Turner tonight as they for the first time faced the AFC Fans. Before the Q&A session got under way the new AFC Wimbledon kit went on sale and when the doors opened at 7pm a rush of people greeted the merchandise team.

The question and answer sessions was a brilliant success with Dave answering loads of questions from the obvious one about Kevin Cooper, to player fitness, How far he hopes to take us and plans for the season.

One thing that Dave announced was the fact that Robert Ursell had today signed a 1 year contract with an option of a second year, although we were all hoping he would it was made even sweeter when Dave announced that Robert had turned down the chance at a "pro" club to join us. As Dave pointed out it was clear Robert knew which of the two clubs had the potential to be the way up, I am sure that Robert will get a brilliant reception tomorrow at the Barnet game.

22/07/04 - It's Not Fun To Stay At

Horsham YMCA. I wasn't at the game tonight but the full time result was Horsham YMCA 2 AFC Wimbledon 0. Richard Butler played the second half and initial reports were he played well. A full Match report can be read on the Official Site by clicking here.

22/07/04 - Countdown To Kit Launch

Tomorrow evening (Friday) the new AFC Wimbledon kit is launched at Kingsmeadow this will be our kit for the next 2 seasons and goes on sale at 19:00 in the back bar at Kingsmeadow at 20:00 in the main Bar Dave Anderson will be holding a question and Answers session where you can ask him questions and listen to the answers while having a drink at the ground.

The kit has been displayed on the official site and is in a pop up window on the official site but if you machine doesn't allow pop up's and you want to see it the following links may help.

The Home Kit - The Official Site - The Away Kit

If you cant make the kit launch the Question and Answer session will be broadcast on Radio Wdon. I also understand that the new Kit will also be on sale on Saturday at our first home pre-season game against Barnet.

21/07/04 - Horsham On Thursday Night

Just to let you know I wont be at the Horsham YMCA game on Thursday night so there will be no live updates, sorry about that. If you are going please be aware that Horsham YMCA's ground backs on to Horsham and both teams are at home with Horsham playing Crawley so make sure that you go into the right ground or you may end up watching the wrong game. If your going by train the ground doesn't look too far from the station you need to get to the Brighton road B281 and then go down goring's mead a map can be seen by clicking here.

20/07/04 - A Gap In The Trophy Room

Tonight We lost the Supporters Direct Cup after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford. Although the defeat was expected the performance was very good and a good turnout of supporters showed everyone at the club what we are about. A more detailed report tomorrow but We went behind in the first 5 minutes when Brentford scored from a corner. Some good play from us saw us have the ball in the back of the net but the ref disallowed it for pushing so we went in 1-0 at half time. In the second half Brentford scored a second that was a cracking shot and Danny Naisbitt had no chance to save it and then with the last kick of the game Brentford scored again but the goal was disallowed so the score finished 2-0 to Brentford. A number of really good performances tonight but one that stood out Was Danny Oakins. Anyway more on Wednesday evening. A couple of well done off the pitch to the Leicester fans who were at the game and I understand that some Leeds fans may have been present so thank you for coming to our game and hope you enjoyed it.

Brentford Tonight

Tonight we play Brentford and we could be up against Deon Burton, Frank Sinclair and John Salako. It should be a big test for us but once again I imagine that Dave and the management team may be more interested about the performance. The Text Updates will be in action tonight and you can see them by clicking on the matchday link above.

19/07/04 - Defending The Cup

On Tuesday night we are up for defending the cup when we won our first match as AFC Wimbledon. The Supporters Direct Cup which is contested between clubs that are run or have supporter backed clubs. The first time it was contested we beat Enfield Town 3-2 but Tuesday night sees us travel to Brentford for the game.

The evening has also be declared a fans united game and as well as the obvious supporters from Brentford and AFC Wimbledon a group of Leicester City fans will also be in attendance. Ticket prices for the evening are £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for children and you can go in any part of the ground. The gate money from the game will be split between the clubs. Prior to the game if you looking for somewhere to have a drink go to any corner outside the ground as Brentford's ground is surrounded by pubs, it's suggested the Griffin may be a good pub and has been suggested for a meeting place for AFC Wimbledon, Brentford and Leicester fans.

Another appeal is from Brentford who are holding an old shirt collection for disadvantage kids in Thailand. So if you have any old shirts you know longer want bring them along to the game and hand them in at the collection point.

In terms of getting to Brentford the easiest way is train. Trains depart Clapham Junction at 4 and 34 minutes past the hour and take 17 minutes the ground is about a 5 minute walk from the station and you can see a map by clicking here. Lets get a nice big crowd at the game and see what could be a very big test for Dave and the boys.

18/07/04 - Pictures From Banstead

You can view the pictures that I took at Saturday's game at Banstead by clicking here. If you like any of the picture by clicking on any of them you will be able to see a bigger version of them (800 by 600 pixels)

18/07/04 - Poll Result And New Question

The result of the poll held over the past week is as follows:

"What Was Your Impression Of The AFC Wimbledon Squad At Dagenham & Redbridge?"
1. Cant say wasn't at the game 25 Votes (30%)
2. Impressed 15 Votes (18%)
3. More Plus Points Than Bad 30 Votes (37%)
4. Not Much Change To Last Year 3 Votes (4%)
5. More Bad Points Than Good 1 Vote (1%)
6. Needs Improvement 8 Votes (10%)

As this was our first pre-season game I thin this was a positive result and I think that the progress of the squad in the next few weeks will set us up nicely for the season.

I have now added a new poll and this time it's about "A Fans Club - The Musical" "Have You seen it or plan to?" Please click here to cast your vote.

17/07/04 - London Senior Cup Draw

The London Senior Cup draw has seen us get a Bye to Third round where we will be at home to the winners of Hanwell Town who play the winners of Brimsdown Rovers and Crown and Manor the full draw can be viewed by clicking here The tie is due to be played by 6th November and if both teams were to win there various matches we could meet Hendon in the 5th round which is the quarter finals.

17/07/04 - Robert Ursell Who Is He?

Thanks to a bit of help from a poster on another site I have found a link to some information on AFC Wimbledon's number 7 on Saturday Robert Ursell. He used to play for Chiswick Albion and his player Profile can be found here

17/07/04 - Back To winning Ways

Dave Anderson today chalked up his first AFC Wimbledon victory after a 2-1 victory over Banstead. The goals were scored in the 2nd minute through triallist Martin Randall and in the 88 minute by Jones Bamfo.

A smaller squad was taken to Banstead this week compared to the squads that were taken to Dagenham and Redbridge for the first game but once again had a few new faces for us and Dave to judge.

The starting line up was as follows - Danny Naisbitt, Micky Woolner, Ryan Gray, Anthony Howard, Jamie Angell, Roger Joseph, Robert Ursell, Chris Gell, Martin Randall, Jamie Taylor and Gareth Graham. So the new players this time were Robert Ursell and Martin Randall and it wasn't long before people knew a bit more about Martin Randall as he put us 1-0 up after just 2 minutes. A bit of a defensive mix up allowed Banstead to level the score on 5 minutes. Banstead had a period of about 5 minutes where they seemed to have the better of the play but after that most of the first half was ours.

Dave Anderson seemed to be pleased with how the players had been responding to the tactical instructions from the bench. As the half time whistle blew Dave elected to keep the players out on the pitch for the break as it would of been very tight in the changing rooms. At half time the following changes were made with Jamie Angell, Gareth Graham, Jamie Taylor and Chris Gell being replaced by Mark Williams, Gavin Bolger, Seb Favata and Steve Gibson.

We continued to play well and some of the fast flowing link up play was a pleasure to watch. Mark Williams had a cracking shot that was tipped over the bar by the keeper. The next lot of changes saw Danny Naisbitt and Martin Randall replaced by Paul Smith and Jones Bamfo, and after the problems Jones caused last week it was clear that he would be given similar instructions which were run at the defence. The last normal sub of the game was Lewis Taylor on for Ryan Gray who had played really well. Both Jamie Taylor and Gareth Graham returned for the final 10 minutes of the match and replaced Robert Ursell and another player who at the moment I cant work out.(Sorry) As the game was coming to an end Jones Bamfo broke into the box and fired past the keeper to put us 2-1 up and give us the victory.

Dave Anderson looked rightly pleased and you could see him thinking Jones could do some real damage this season in the last 20 minutes of games and I am sure we will see this happen. So a 2-1 victory and a good performance that showed alot of promise. Dave originally said that he may look to reduce the squad after the Banstead game but I think he could have a few difficult choices now as a few players have been missing and a number of promising players have been on display.

Matchday Live

The Matchday live will be in operation this afternoon from Banstead Athletic. After the problems last week I think I have sorted them out including the auto refresh so I will try to go full pelt with the updates to test it today. To view the updates please click the Matchday button above and they should start from around 14:45 this afternoon.

16/07/04 - Travel To Banstead

Saturday afternoon we make the trip to Banstead for our second pre-season game a number of people have thought that Banstead was a strange choice as we will be playing them in the league this year, but I understand it's part of our agreement for the reserves to play on the pitch at Merland Rise this season. The ground is near Tattenham Corner station and trains depart from East Croydon at 5 and 35 minutes past the hour the journey takes about 28 minutes and it's then about 15 minute walk. A map of the area can be found at the following link.

16-07-04 Two Lots Of Thanks

In the past 24 hours 2 departures have been announced from various positions at the club first up the club have announced that John Harris who was the sports therapist has been replaced by Mike Rayner who worked with Dave at Hendon. I would like to wish John all the best and welcome Mike to the club, lets hope he is not to busy this season.

Second Thank you goes to Lou Carlton-Kelly who has announced she is stepping down from the Dons Trust Board. It was Lou's suggestion a good few seasons before AFC Wimbledon was established of a Trust being set-up, so Lou had a big part in the formation of this brilliant club we now have, So a big thanks Lou and look forward to seeing you during the season at the ground.

15/07/04 - This Weeks Poll Question

Just a reminder that the poll on how you rated our performance at the Dagenham and Redbridge game on Saturday is still open and will be until Sunday, so if you haven't done, and wish to vote please click the vote link on the left hand side.

15/07/04 - Calendar All Updated

The Calendar part of the site has been updated with all the league fixtures for the season so it may help you in planning the months between August 2004 and the end of April 2005.

14/07/04 - Fixtures Announced

After last weeks delay the League fixtures were announced at just after 10:00am this morning and on the whole it's not a bad list we start the season with a home game against Ashford Town and just 3 weeks before we play them in the cup. The planned booking of the trip to Newport Isle Of Wight will have to be put on hold as although it is planned for early October it clashes with the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup so if either us or Newport get that far the game would b off.

I am just about to start putting the fixtures onto the site but for the time being you can view the list in full by going to the Official Site.

13/07/04 - Early Day Motion

Following the AFC Wimbledon visit to the House Of Commons an Early Day Motion has been raised regarding us. Early Day Motions are requests by member of parliament to bring topics to the awareness of other MP's that would normally not be discussed in the house of commons. The Early Day Motion is number 1491 and you can read the wording of it and see who has signed it by clicking here.

The EDM was only launched on Monday and therefore most MP wouldn't have seen it as of yet but if it gets more than 100 names to it, it will have done very well. So check to see if your MP has signed it and you could always ask them to support it.

12/07/04 - Fixture Update

The fixtures for the Ryman league are now expected to be announced on Wednesday 14th July at 12:00. As you may have seen in The Non League Paper part of the problem was due to "security issues" with us and "travel issues" with Newport IOW. The fixtures are expected to be quickly put on the Official Site and I imagine I will have details on here either Wednesday evening or during Thursday.

12/07/04 - Further Information On The Under 18's

As mentioned on the Official Site the Under 18's will be playing home games at Kingsmeadow on Thursday evenings so if you have nothing planned come down and watch the possible future of the club in action. In the league Cup although no date has been announced as of yet we have been drawn at home to Worthing and in fact we have been drawn at home in every further round we play in.

The Under 18's will be playing a number of pre-season games over the next month and I will bring you details on here as soon as they are confirmed but watch out we are expecting one high profile game to be announced at Kingsmeadow before the start of season for the Under 18's so keep an eye out for it.

12/07/04 - Under 18's Freelance Report

I have had a story published on the official site giving a bit of an insight into the trials and training sessions for the Under 18's you can read what I had to say by clicking here and incase any one is wondering only the title and one part of the text was changed.

11/07/04 - Pictures From Saturday

To view the pictures I took on Saturday with my digital camera click here also by clicking on any of them will give you a 800 by 600 copy. I hope you like them.

11/07/04 - A Review Of Saturday's Game At Dagenham

So the first pre-season game of the season and it was a chance to see a number of the players that have been at pre-season training. At the end of last week it was announced that FIFA had introduced a maximum of 6 subs rule for all games and it had caught out a couple of teams in the previous few days, Gillingham and Wycombe had both been stopped from brining on more subs and the ref walked off in Saturday's Fulham Vs Watford game at Craven Cottage.

But both managers had agreed that a side would be played in each half so the starting line up for AFC Wimbledon was as follows: -

1) Danny Naisbitt; 2) Michael Woolner, 3) Paul Quinn , 4) Anthony Howard, 5) Matt Everard, 6) Jon-Barrie Bates, 7) Andy Sullivan - replaced on 4 min's by 12) Lee Sidwell, 8)Gareth Graham, 9)Joe Sheerin, 10) Jamie Taylor, 11)Chris Head.

Andy Sullivan had a thigh injury and reports afterwards suggested he could be out for a few weeks. The score at half time was 0-0 we had a couple of chances and on the whole the performance had been promising. The line up for the second half was as follows:

1) Danny Naisbitt replaced by 13) Paul Smith on 65 min's, 18) Darren Dobinson, 2) Danny Oakins, 14) Roger Joseph, 17) Steve Gibson, 20)Ryan Gray, 15)Chris Gell, 19)Seb Favata, 12) Lee Sidwell replaced by 7) Jones Bamfo on 65 min's, 16) Mark Williams, 3) Billy Sentence.

Although Dagenham scored the only goal of the game on 50th minute past Danny Naisbitt it was a good performance by all the players in what was the first time they had been in full match situation together. The best chance of the game for us came to Jon-Barrie Bates but also chances for Paul Quinn and Steve Gibson could of seen us come away with a draw. But for us to lose by just one goal against a conference side is a good result and I am sure over the next few weeks we will see them get used to playing as a team.

11/07/04 - Poll Result And New Poll Question

The poll on are you planning to watch pre-season games has now closed and the result is as follows: -

1. Yes - All Of Them 16 Votes (10%)
2. Yes - Just The Home Ones 11 Votes (7%)
3. Yes - Just The Away Ones 0 Votes (0%)
4. Yes - Some of Them 118 Votes (74%)
5. No - Don't Watch Pre-Season Games 14 Votes (9%)

Thanks to everyone that voted and I think it's a good response. The new question now up is based on Yesterday's game and your first impressions of the squad. Click the vote link on the left of the screen to vote or click here

11/07/04 - Saturday's Text Updates

Sorry about yesterdays text messages it appears there may have been a problem at first with the updating, as I was advised of this I stopped sending messages, the problem was solved in the second half and I sent a few more but I think you will agree that pre-season is time to find these problems and I hope that it didn't spoil your enjoyment of the afternoon. These issues should be sorted this week including the auto refresh problem. The messages and pictures from yesterday are still there so click on matchday if you want to view them.

10/07/04 - Back In Action

Right full write up tomorrow but this afternoon we lost 1-0 at Dagenham and Redbridge but it was a promising performance from the players. By the end of the afternoon we had replaced every player so the stats are very confusing to say the least. More in the morning.

Saturday Matchday Service

Right first matchday service of the season and two main ways to stay in contact with events in Dagenham today I will be providing live text updates from the game and these can be viewed by clicking the matchday link above, these would normally auto refresh but wont today sorry so you will need to press f5 to refresh, also on that page will be some picture I take during the day to see larger versions click the picture you wish to view and you can see it.

Yippee Summer Is Over

Well Football is a Winter sport so if it's first day of pre-season matches it must mean the end of summer. Anyway It's off to Dagenham for Dave Anderson's first game in charge and a chance to see some old and new players.

Of course the 10th July is always a special day as on 2002 was the day of the Sutton games. Anyway enjoy your day and a report on my return.

09/07/04 - Do you Have Entertainment Ideas?

The Following Message Has been sent By Jill Stratton and regards an Entertainments group meeting next week.

Hi all We are looking to launch a new working group. It is to focus on how we can maximise the use of Kingsmeadow other than on match days. We want to get regular music nights, quiz nights, comedy nights etc going and attract in the local community alongside fans of both clubs. The first meeting is being held in the back bar at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday 14th July at 7.30pm. It would be great to see as many of you come along as possible. We need people to become involved who are willing to go off, investigate possible events and with help organise and run the events. All ideas are welcome. It will mean hard work but will also be fun and will help towards paying off the debt.If you are unable to make the meeting (I appreciate it is short notice) but you have any thoughts or ideas you would like considered please feel free to e-mail me at jillstratton@ntlworld.com and I will take them to the meeting with me. Look forward to seeing lots of faces next week.

So If you have any ideas drop Jill a line or pop along to the meeting.

09/07/04 - The DA's First Squad

Dave Anderson has named his first squad and although FIFA have apparently limited a maximum of 6 substitutes in games now Dave plans to play two teams , one in each half. The only place that doesn't have any familiar faces is in goal where we have two new keepers, But in the rest of the team we have a mixture of Last years players, New Players and Roger Joseph (sorry Rog)

The full squad plus a bit of background information on a few of the new names can be found on the Official Site.

It's Almost Here

On Saturday we can declare Summer Over (Well after Yesterday's Rain it seemed like it's over already) but Saturday see's the return of proper football, well pre-season games at least, As the dons have our first run out against Conference team Dagenham and Redbridge from the Essex / East London boundary.

You may have seen on the official site that the District Line Tube is not running all the way from Wimbledon to Dagenham East so the suggested route is the Jubilee Line from Waterloo to West Ham and then the District Line to Dagenham East. If you haven't been on the new section of the Jubilee line yet it's really nice and modern and at the stations the track is fully enclosed so you know where to stand for the doors to open.

The Transport For London Site suggest that Journey time from Waterloo to Dagenham East is about 45 minutes by tube and then it's approximately a 500 yards to the ground so it should be a maximum time of about an hour from Waterloo to the ground.

A very good ground guide can be found at the Dagenham fan site DiggerDagger.com. The gate money from the match is also being shared so not only will it be your first chance to see the dons in action but the club get revenue from it as well.

I will be adding later ways that you can stay in touch with the action if you cant make the game so don't forget to keep an eye on the site.

"Brilliant A History Lesson"

No Not my words, but the words Of AFC Wimbledon Manager Dave Anderson at tonight's showing of "A Fans Club The Musical" Once again the history of AFC takes another twist as the Brilliant musical played out to a very High Profile Audience.

In the crowd tonight was Kris Stewart, Erik Samuelson, Ivor Heller, Tom Adam, Nicky English, Dave Anderson, The Dobinson's, Trigger, Dave Towse, Nicole Hammond and Me to name a few people and everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely. A lot of people said the show would make you laugh and cry which it did mainly out of fun but most of all it made me very proud of what we have now got. I will do a full review tomorrow but just wanted to put this down for now, Well Done Matt and everyone involved in it.

07/07/04 - More On A Fans Club

As you may have seen the other Day A Fans Club the musical opened on Tuesday evening and BBC Local news did a bit on the musical I missed the bit on the programme but a poster on another site captured it and for people who haven't seen it you can now watch it by clicking here The clip is 2 minutes long in Windows Media format and is 2.6mb in size. I hope you all enjoy it, I am off to see the Show tonight so will let you know about it either later tonight or tomorrow.

06/07/04 - Congratulations From All Sides Of The House

I don't know if people have seen the story on the official site but in the features section is a report on a reception that was held at "The House Of Commons" by "The All Party Football Group and Wimbledon MP Roger Casale" I was lucky enough to be there and it was a really nice afternoon the club were presented with a lovely shield by the group. If you haven't read the report you can do by clicking here.

Good Luck To "A Fans Club" The Musical

On Tuesday Night "A Fans Club" The Musical opens at "The Studio - New Wimbledon Theatre" this is a musical written by Matt Couper and staring Alun Armstrong, Alun is a fan of the club and you may remember was in the BBC series New Tricks where he wears an AFC Wimbledon top. And for anyone in Australia I believe this is showing out there now so check your listings.

Good luck to Matt and all involved in it and I am looking forward to seeing it.

04/07/04 - Advance Reminder On What To Expect

As the close season comes to a close I thought i would just remind people on what they can find on the site in the run up to games, on match day and also after a match day. As the game approaches there will be a preview normally two nights before a game so Thursday night for Saturday games and Sunday night for Tuesday games. I will also provide travel information for away games in these previews. On Matchday's the live text updates will be running these will be from all games that I attend so should be all first team games as well as a number of reserves, under 18's and Ladies at some of the non first team games it may be just a case of half time and full time scores but hopefully I will also be providing live pictures during the games although these will mainly be before the game, at half time and full time so that it wont delay any text updates.

Following the end of the game a man of the match poll will be held for each first team game and will be held open until the next first team game so that should give everyone a chance to vote.

Please bear with me over the next few games as it will be a case of getting to know the players so text updates may be not as detailed as they should be.

04/07/04 - Number Of Goals Poll Result

25/06/04 - Site News And Fixture Information

Sorry For the lack of Updates over the last few days, this has been due to a combination of being very busy, watching the football (Euro 2004) and not a lot really going on. The main question at the moment is when will we know the Fixtures for the new season, well the suggestion is that they will be announced in around two weeks time so keep an eye out for Friday 9th July, just a day before our first pre-season game, it is also believed that the early rounds of the FA Cup will be announced next Friday 2nd July details will be announced on here as soon as they are known.

21/06/04 - Crunch England Game At The Meadow

Tonight England play Croatia in the final group game, the game kicks off at 19:45 and the game will be being shown on the big screen at Kingsmeadow. The BBQ will also be serving a range of food from 18:45. It's been really good for the England games so it will be nice to see lots of people down to watch the game.

17/06/04 - 17th June 1977

The 17th June 1977 was the date that League football came to Wimbledon, well the date we were elected to the league so as well as watching the England Vs Switzerland and France Vs Croatia games at Kingsmeadow tonight a lot of fans will be raising a glass or two to the famous date. So If you fancy watching football in a nice atmosphere and being round fellow dons fans including the legend "HP the Norse Don" who is flying over from Norway to watch the game get yourself down to Kingsmeadow, the game kicks off at 17:00 so hope to see you there.

16/06/04 - All Change In The Combined Counties

On Monday night it was the Combined Counties League Annual General Meeting and apparently just two hours before it was due to start Withdean 2000 announced they would be withdrawing from the league and only having a youth side next season. This means that Cove who were due to be Relegated to the 1st Division and Cranleigh who were due to be relegated from the 1st Division will now not be relegated.

16/06/04 - Euro 2004 prediction Standings

I have added the standing for the Euro prediction league. The current Standings are after game 8 Germany Vs Holland and you can view it in Points order by clicking here or by first name alphabetically by clicking here.

15/06/04 - So What Do We Know About The New Keeper?

Right so you as you should of seen by now Danny Naisbitt has joined as keeper. Danny joins us from Dagenham & Redbridge but also spent part of last season at Barnet and Hendon, which would be a fair idea of where Dave Anderson heard about him.

Having a look around the net I found that he has made 7 appearances for Barnet last season in the conference and his playing record was Won 3 Drawn 3 lost 1 and he conceded 10 goals including 5 against Dagenham and Redbridge and kept 2 clean sheers. His full 03/04 playing record for barnet can be seen here. In the 2002/03 season he also played twice for Carlisle United 1 league and 1 cup game in Division 3 although Carlisle lost 3-1 in both games.

In The 1999/2000 Season he played For Barnet in the league and his record was played 5 Won 4 Drew 1 Lost 0 Goals Against 7 and 2 clean sheets. His first club was Bishop Auckland in the north east where I understand he played in preseason games against both Rangers and Celtic.

For us to Sign a keeper of 25 years of age and have such experience is really good and I can imagine that Danny could well be with us for a long time.

15/06/04 - League Standing's On Wednesday Night

Ok a little bit misleading but on Wednesday I will be putting up the current standings in the AFC Wimbledon Euro 2004 prediction league. The results will be based on the end of the first 8 games (last one the Holland vs Germany game) So you can keep a track on how supporters and one player are doing!

14/06/04 - Dave Anderson Confirms New Keeper

Dave Anderson has announced details of the New Keeper who has Conference experience, over on the Official Site. From the information I have seen it looks like we have a brilliant keeper here, just a shame we have lost Big Ross in the process.

14/06/04 - New Keeper On The Way?

Ross Standen this afternoon posted on Weird and Wonderful World to say that he wont be with us next season Ross has said: -

"Just to let everyone know that I will not be at the club next season...I am gutted but DA has advised that I am not in his plans & he has signed a keeper from the conference!! No grudges to bear against DA as this is football. Anyway I would just like to thank all the fans for the making my time at the club so enjoyable. Hopefully we will meet again soon & I'll be keeping another clean sheet against you!! (Ha HA)...Seriously I hope that the new team gets promoted next year & I wish everyone success for the coming season. Cheers Ross
Ross Standen - cyberspace - Mon Jun 14 2004 16:40:20

Can I say a big thanks to Ross and wish him all the best for the future and you will always be part of our history. At the moment this hasn't been confirmed by the club and no details are known of the new keeper but we may here in the next few days.

14/06/04 - Beers and Football On Thursday Evening

Thursday is the 17th June and therefore the anniversary of Wimbledon being elected to the Football League in 1977 and also the anniversary of the Ryman League AGM in 2002. So To Celebrate come down to Kingsmeadow where the England vs Switzerland game will be on from 17:00 and watch the game in a nice location.

2002 was also the first time that most supporters had heard of the Combined Counties League so although we missed out on the Ryman League it turned into a very happy day for us.

I have taken this from WISA Chat where Ricko spoke about watching the England game on Sunday

"Where else in London can you get all of the following:
a) watch an England Euro 2004 game in a public venue
b) have a clear view of a large projector screen
c) hear the commentary.
d) drink beer
e) eat tasty bbq food
f) get served with a queue of one person in front of you at most
g) have a lively atmosphere full of knowledgeable football people"

I will confirm if the bbq will be on again but can confirm the burgers were lovely. So if you can make it down to Kingsmeadow for a 17:00 kick off it will be brilliant to see everyone as ever.

14/06/04 - Wimbledon Village Fair

This Saturday (19th June) Sees Wimbledon Village Fair take place on Wimbledon Common. AFC Wimbledon and The Dons Trust will be out in force promoting us to the local community. So if you are in the area pop along and make sure that you wear some Yellow and Blue to remind the community of the successful team that we have. 13/06/04 - What The Butler Scored

I have been doing a little bit of investigation work into Richard Butler our new signing and his record of 21 goals in the 2003/04 season is very impressive and below is a list of the teams he scored against.

League Goals
  • Slough Town (H)
  • Met Police (H)
  • Corinthian Casuals (H)
  • Lewes (H)
  • Windsor & Eton (H) (3 Goals)
  • Egham Town (A) (2 Goals)
  • Horsham (H)
  • Marlow (A)
  • Bromley (A)
  • Croydon Athletic (H) (2 Goals)
  • Whyteleafe (H)
    From The Bench
  • Kingsbury Town (A)
  • Tooting & Mitcham (A)
  • Cup Goals
  • Tooting & Mitcham (A) FA Cup
  • Weymouth (a) FA Trophy
  • Weymouth (H) FA Trophy Replay
  • As you can see he has already scored goals against a number of the teams we will be playing next season and can only be an added bonus to the squad.

12/06/04 - Official Site Confirms Butler

The Official Site this afternoon confirmed the news that Richard Butler has joined the club. Dave Anderson has also given an interview about Richard and is well worth a read.

12/06/04 - New Player, New Pre season Game?

The Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club is reporting that we have signed there striker by the name of Richard Butler, He scored 21 goals for them in Ryman Division 1 South last year and has scored 46 goals in 126 games including substitutes. The site also says that we will play Ashford in a pre-season game on Monday 9th August at Kingsmeadow. You can read the full story by clicking here So far the story hasn't been confirmed by the club so it may not be true but I am sure if it is we will have an Interview with Richard on the Official Site in the near future.

10/06/04 - Get Well Dobo Jnr

I understand that Dobo Jnr (Darren) was at St Georges where he was having day surgery on his nose after a problem he has had for a lot of the season. Darren was spotted being taken home by Dobo Snr so hope your ok Darren put your feet up and best wishes from all AFC Wimbledon Fans.

10/06/04 - Another Step Nearer To The New Kit

As you remember earlier in the year a competition was held to design the kit for the 2004/05 season and beyond and the Winner was Kit number 2 and was designed by Marc Jones. Part of the prize was to see the kit being put together so this afternoon Marc jetted off to Turkey for the weekend where he will watch the first of many Kits being produced. Well done to Marc and I am sure he will have a brilliant Time.

    10/06/04 - Official Site Updates

The Official Site today has updates on another couple of changes in the management and coaching team and also details of a brilliant offer if you fancy watching the England Game on Sunday and having a few beers for the full story click here.

09/06/04 - Changes In The Ryman League

When the structure for the Ryman League was announced there was a "subject to confirmation" on one of the Kent Clubs, this was on Cray Wanderers and needed confirmation that they had a ground share agreement with Bromley Football Club and if they couldn't get this they would be replaced by Fleet Town. Well tonight News has broken that Fleet Town will be in the Ryman League but will replace another Kent Team, Namely Sittingbourne Football Club.

It is believed that Southall Town, Not the one in the Combined Counties last season have not taken up there place in the Dr Martins league and therefore Sittingbourne have replaced them and Fleet haven't been relegated after all.

This will mean at the moment the League Tables are wrong so I will start work on correcting them.

09/06/04 - Dave Anderson Talks About Kevin's "Contract"

Following a number of stories about Kevin Cooper's Contract The Official Site has Dave's Version of events. So hopefully that should see all the questions about it that people have answered. Please click on the link on the left to the Official Site.

    08/06/04 - Euro 2004 Fundraiser Sweepstake

With Euro 2004 just about to start (Saturday) I thought I would run a Euro 2004 Sweepstake so that everyone can enjoy the tournament while maybe even winning some money and also raising some funds for the Ground fund.

Now I have designed a system of running this that could see me being put in charge of the next FIFA World Cup Draw if they get to hear about this! Right This is what I have done It's a three Step process.
  • Step 1) I have sorted the teams into Alphabetical Order.
  • Step 2) I ran a Random Number generator bit of HTML code that gave each team a number.
  • Step 3 - I then re-ran the random number and the number produced was the team that will be allocated first and so on.

So if we presume we have teams A, B, C, D, E and the first draw gave the order 2, 3, 5, 1, 4 and the second run gave 4, 5, 1, 3, 2 the order that teams would be allocated would be first person gets E second C Third D Fourth B and 5th A (this was done as a live test as well. (Confused? You should be).

Right Entry is £10 with £50 to the person with the winning team £30 To the runner Up and £80 to the stadium fund. I have run the draw 5 times so 80 people could enter and if needed I can run the draw some more times to accommodate more people.

If people can e-mail me at paul@itmustbedons.com with your name number of entry's and a contact name and address I can enter you in the contest. In terms of payments Pay Pal would be best the payee should be paul@itmustbedons.com as this is free and 100% safe and means I will be able to keep track of the money, otherwise I will take Cheque made payable to "Paul Raymond" As I will need to pay into my account before I can pay out and also transfer direct to The Dons Trust. If you need my address please e-mail me. At the same address. Once each group of 16 is full I will produce a list of who has what country but will e-mail you your details.

08/06/04 - Trying To Understand Contracts

Wolves Womble asked about players leaving and joining following a story on "A Yorkshire Wombles Site" saying that a number of players including Danny Oakins, Lewis Taylor and Shane Small King would all be leaving. The way I understand the situation all players at the moment are "between registrations" this means that as of yet players at most clubs wont have been registered with the Ryman league and wouldn't normally happen until just before the season starts.

Player don't have to be registered to play in pre-season games and therefore if a player plays in a pre-season game it doesn't mean that have signed for that club, this allows clubs to try out number of players. It's been reported in various places that three players already have contracts for the 2004/05 season and these are believed to be Matt Everard, Joe Sheerin and Gavin Bolger. The suggestion is that Matt signed a new one after Aldershot came in for him and Matt and Joe are heavily involved in community work that the club runs.

So although we may be linked with a number of players signing or leaving the club it may be a case of they have come down for a "Trial" so Dave and the coaching staff can have a proper look at them. If Players decide not to come back for pre-season training that's up to them but I would like to think that most of them will do.

For the record a number of players who I have spoken to have said they are well looking forward to the new season and are already doing there own pre-season training to make sure that it doesn't come as a horrible surprise to them when they do re-start. Lewis Taylor's mum also confirmed that Lewis has no plans to leave and looks forward to showing Dave what he can do during pre-season and the new season.

Contracts are normally only awarded to players below an age of about 23 who clubs think may attract interest from other clubs and therefore they could pick up a possible fee if the player was to move. For the player it means they are guaranteed to be paid for the whole season even if the manager was to replace them or the player got injured.

    08/06/04 - Two New Pre-Season Matches

The official Site has details of Two new pre-season games including another team beginning with "B" at Kingsmeadow and a Thursday night away trip. Over the next couple of weeks I will do a build up to the games and a bit of information on how they did last season.

    Womble Watch At Euro 2004

As the Wombles that went to Norway return from a brilliant weekend (I Understand) a Number of Wombles are preparing to depart to watch Euro 2004. As well as a number of supporters a lot who read this site I also understand that Matt Everard is also out in Portugal for most of the Tournament, Perhaps some of the international Managers have seen Matt's headers and want him to give a bit of last minute coaching. If your going out to Portugal have a brilliant time and if your not going don't forget to keep an eye out for the AFC Flags that will be on display at most games and also the games will be on in the bar at Kingsmeadow so come along and watch the games on the big screen.

    06/06/04 - New Fundraising idea

In the fundraising section of the site you will find details of a Sponsor a Goal idea that I will be running for the 2004/05 season. Have a think about it and drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.

    05/06/04 - itmustbedons.com View On Coop's departure

The news on Friday about Kevin Cooper's departure was a bit of a shock to everyone, and although since the end of season kevin has said that he had been approached by a number of clubs it still seems strange that he has left. In fact in one report I think it had him quoted as saying that if he wasn't offered a contract by "14th June" he would go elsewhere, so was that report wrong or did Kevin, jump the gun?

The two sides seem to be as follows -
Kevin Cooper 3 players have been given contracts and so why hasn't he? Kevin Claims on Thursday (3rd) he was offered a contract but this was withdrawn on Friday morning so he signed for Carshalton.

Dave Anderson Dave has previous stated that he wouldn't be offering any contract until he has seen the players in pre-season training. On the official site it says that Dave spoke to Kevin about a new deal but at present it wouldn't involve a new contract but would be reviewed during pre-season.

Where does that leave us? A player has left us who has scored 107 goals in past two season but we still have a number of good strikers at the club and I am sure that Dave may have been thinking about bringing in an extra striker.

I would like to say thanks to Kevin for the past two years that he has been at the club.

04/06/04 - New Look Official Site Goes Live

This afternoon Friday 4th June the new look official site went live and if you haven't seen it I am sure that you will be very impressed with it. Also shortly after launch the official site broke a story that a lot of people will be disappointed with but I think it's important to read the full story before making a comment on. Elsewhere on the official site you will find lots of brilliant information about the club and during the season the live match stats will update to show bookings, sending's offs, Goals and the score and a match report should be up within about an hour of the final whistle.

03/06/04 - Final Chance For Euro 2004 Glory

Ian Hidden has is running a Euro 2004 prediction competition and the deadline for entries is coming up fast.
