Sorry to report my current league tables are wrong, I have a score of Ashford 4 Corinthian Casuals 1 when it was in fact 0-4 This means ashford still haven't won a game, I planned to updated the table tonight with the Met Police Vs Croydon result but with this game being abandoned at half time due to floodlight failure (resulting in some people saying the Met had there lights punched out) I will delay the change until either Wednesday evening when I get home from the Under 18's game at Cobham or Thursday Morning, sorry for this error.
On August Bank Holiday Monday 2002 we had an early morning kick off and we got beat by Ash United when a player by the name of Matt Everard scored the winner against us, Well we all know what Matt is capable now and today he started his season scoring with an afternoon headed goal from a corner.
Although this wasn't the most easy game on the eye to watch in the end we got the points and remain unbeaten. Something that was noted right from the start Whyteleafe also played 3-5-2 and this could well have resulted in a congested midfield, but the main talking point of the game was the heavy nature of the Whyteleafe tackling that ended off seeing three of our players being helped off the pitch due to injury, they were Martin Randall, Robert Ursell and Micky Woolner. The best scoring chance in the first half fell to Whyteleafe when a shot from the edge of the area beat Danny Naisbitt but crashed against the post and out to safety. The second half saw us trying to be more attacking with a number of good crosses from Robert Ursell and Ryan Gray and some nice work by Richard Butler and Joe Sheerin but it was Matt Everard who met the ball from a corner to give us the points. We expected games to be tight in this league but although not the flowing football we have seen over the early part of the season, I think this will be one of the hardest teams we come up against and the important thing is we kept a clean sheet and kept our cool as the players were being kicked in the air. With the Man Of The Match Poll open until Wednesday evening for the Walton & Hersham game I will be conducting the Whyteleafe poll via E-mail until Wednesday evening. If You wish to Vote please click here and I will transfer it to the main program on Wednesday night. If you haven't voted for the Man Of The Match for the Walton & Hersham game please scroll down and click the graphic.
This afternoon we are off to Whyteleafe and I will be providing text updates from around 14:15 with team line up as well as all the action as it happens, so if you can make the game click on the matchday link at the top and you will be able to read up to the minute action.
Whyteleafe have had a disappointing start to the season, and I thought they would be one of the teams that could be the strongest this season. So far they have a record of Won 1 Drawn 1 lost 3 but all of the points have come at home so it may be a case of they are a team who don't travel to well. It will be interesting to see what the line up will be today and I think we could see a change up front with maybe even Joe and Jamie starting.Apart from Met Police vs Croydon who play tomorrow night we have a full programme today in the Ryman League and unlike previous years in the Combined Counties League we have the luxury of not having 11:30am kick off's. Today's list of fixtures are as follows: -
Ashford Town 4-1 Corinthian Casuals Banstead Athletic 2-3 Newport IOW Bashley 4-2 Leatherhead Cray Wanderers 1-1 Tooting & Mitcham United Croydon Athletic 1-1 Molesey Dorking 1-1 Hastings United Fleet Town 1-3 Burgess Hill Town Horsham 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet Walton & Hersham 0-1 BromleyThe result of last weeks poll question which was "which was the moment Herne Bay or Horsham?" is as follows: -
Herne Bay 25 Votes 49%If you have never heard Radio Wdon before this may be for you, On Saturday the commentary team was Mikey T and Marc Jones and with Marc doing a bit of playing about he has managed to combine the Dons Online video footage with the commentary they gave at the time to view and listen to this I have created a separate page which you can view by clicking here the movie is 1.7mb and lasts for One and a half minutes, it's in quick time format but if you don't have the app I have added a link for it, once the clip has downloaded you can watch it as many times as you like. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
The Man Of The Match vote for today's game against Walton & Hersham, which we won 3-1 thanks to goals from Richard Butler, Robert Ursell and Joe Sheerin after being 1-0 down. Is now open and you can vote by clicking the link below. This vote will remain open until Wednesday evening, when the result will be announced.
Some real Crazy scores in the Ryman Division One today the main one is the Tooting & Mitcham at Home to Ashford Town, apparently Ashford Town were 3-1 but managed to lose 8-3 with one of Tooting's players getting 6 goals. Elsewhere Cray one 6-0 on the Isle Of Wight and Bromley game finished 3-5.
Most of us thought that this season would see close score lines but looks like we could see some strange results, but the main results today were our 3-1 victory and Met Police's 3-0 defeat at Hastings. This afternoons game against Walton and Hersham looks like it will be a real test Walton are currently 4th in the league with 9 points, the only points they have dropped is on the first day of the season when they lost 2-1 at Tooting and Mitcham.
Radio Wdon will be in operation this afternoon with live commentary on the game, The official site will have a half time and full time match report as well as goals, bookings and substitutions as the game progresses. My Text Update service will also be in operation and can be viewed by clicking either of the links above, to the left or below -The other matches in the league today are as follows: -
Bromley 3-5 Bashley Burgess Hill Town 4-1 Whyteleafe Corinthian Casuals 2-2 Fleet Town Croydon 0-1 Horsham Dulwich Hamlet 2-0 Croydon Athletic Hastings United 3-0 Metropolitan Police Leatherhead 0-0 Dorking Molesey 0-4 Banstead Athletic Newport IOW 0-6 Cray Wanderers Tooting & Mitcham United 8-3 Ashford TownThe Result of the Man Of The Match Poll from Tuesday nights game against Banstead is as follows: -
Robert Ursell 26 Votes 33.33%On Thursday evening the Under 18's lost there first home game of the league season 2-1. They were 2-0 down at half time following 2 well taken goals but in the second half it was a different story and was very much like the second half of the Horsham game where we had the plenty of chances but although we got one goal back we couldn't make a come back like the first team did.
With Things happening Thick and Fast at the moment I thought I would round up a few of them.
On Tuesday Night Chris Phillips was away s he will be on Saturday, one of the requirements is that you have a working PA system for announcements so club Journalist Charlie Talbot's dad stepped in. Only three Ryman league games tonight and they are as follows: -
The Man Of the Match poll for tonight's game against Banstead is now open and will be until Saturday morning so please click below to vote.
Not the most exciting of games after the last couple but in the end we did what was needed and came away with the 3 points. Banstead caused us a few problems but mainly in the breaking down of there defence, if the match was decided on free kicks and corners the game would of been stopped early on our favour but fortunately it wasn't and two moments of brilliance were witnessed in the second half. First up was a Robert Ursell Free Kick on the edge of the box which was curled into the top corner to give us the lead. The second was a nice ball by Richard Butler who had his back to goal layed the ball back to Martin Randall who blasted the ball past the keeper and give us a 2-0 victory.
Last season Banstead beat us so this is a brilliant result, and keeps us top of the table (other results below). The Result of the horsham Man of the Match poll is as follows: -
Steve Gibson 37 Votes 32.74%Tonight we will have Radio Wdon in operation as it's a home game and I will also be doing text updates, I understand on Saturday there may have been one or two problems with the updates, To save any confusion the following Link should work fine

This week is a busy week of Football the Reserves are at home tonight (at Banstead Football Club, Merland Rise) to Fleet Town, Tomorrow Night we play Banstead at Kingsmeadow in the league, Thursday night we have The Under 18's at Kingsmeadow in League action and then we have on Saturday the first team against Walton and Hersham at Kingsmeadow, so something for everyone to enjoy this week.

Does it matter who is captain? 36 people said yes 14 said no thanks to everyone who voted. This weeks question - Last minute Goals - which was the moment Horsham or Herne Bay? Please click here to vote the poll will close next Sunday. This afternoon at Kingsmeadow the Ladies take on Portsmouth ladies in the league the game kicks off at 2pm and all are welcome. The Ladies lost 2-0 with goals either side of the half time break we played a lot better in the second half and forced the Portsmouth keeper into a couple of very good saves, but we could find the back of the net.
Sorry for the delay in the report but here it is, also the results from yesterday's games have been added to the fixtures below and the league table has been updated.
We made the trip to Horsham and although the squad had been listed as unchanged it was noticed as we warmed up that Chris Gell was missing and Lewis Taylor was in the squad. As the teams ran out the line up change was Gareth Graham in midfield replacing Gell and Lewis Taylor on the bench. Horsham was a nice ground with a large covered terrace down one side and this was the large part of the AFC Wimbledon support was watching from. The game started with AFC kicking off and attacking down the slope. After 10 minutes we were in the lead after an Ursell cross was put through the keepers legs by Richard Butler, but from a dons point of view this was the highlight of the first half as 5 minutes later Horsham were level as a mix up in the centre of defence allowed Horsham to cross the ball in and score from close range. The defence seemed to be having real problems with the pace and physical presence of Horsham and on 28 minutes Horsham were awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box, in fact they claimed it was in the area and wanted a penalty but the free kick was taken and it was hit right into the corner low in an area where Danny Naisbitt couldn't reach it and Horsham had a 2-1 lead. Gareth Graham had earlier in the game picked up a knock and on the half hour was replaced by Steve gibson so once again this needed a change around with Gibson going to right wing back and Woolner going to midfield with Gavin Bolger. So we went in at half time 2-1 down and to be honest it could of been a lot worse, although in the final 10 minutes we had started to play a bit better. Right from the start of the second half we seemed to be more attacking and once again the combination of Richard Butler, Jamie Taylor and Robert Ursell were causing problems we had a number of chances but the Horsham defence and keeper were doing wonders to keep the ball out. Ryan Gray also had a chance but managed to fire over from bout 16 yards. Next up was Michael Woolner who fired in a shot from about 30 yards which was never really on target and to be honest there were better people available to keep the attacking move going. As time ticked on we had two very good shouts for a penalty but neither were given. The challenges from Horsham were getting more panicky and they also started to time waste with a number of players having treatment for various things. With about 12 minutes left Joe Sheerin came on for Jamie Taylor and we continued to put Horsham under pressure stronger than we put most combined Counties teams under last season, But it really didn't look like it would be our afternoon especially when first of all a low hard cross hit Gavin Bolger about 3 yards out and went over the bar, and then a mass scramble in the box saw us have about 4 shots but all blocked. Then as we entered the start of injury time we were awarded a penalty as Richard Butler was pulled down in the box, up stepped Robert Ursell and he fired home to make the score 2-2 and looked like we would be leaving with a point, but more was still to come I don't really know what happened but suggestions are Matt Everard headed against the post and Steve Butler managed to force the ball over the line and we were 3-2 up. The reaction of the players and supporters was just brilliant and shortly after the full time whistle was blown. As the players warmed down the chant "We're Proud of You" and "Dave Anderson's Yellow and Blue Army" went round the ground and the players continued to respond.I imagine Dave will have some tough words to say about the performance but an important lesson may well have been learnt as to what we are up against this season, but in the end we came away with the 3 points so if it was a bad performance let's hope we put it behind us.While the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team have been winning lots of Gold medals today (well done to all) AFC Wimbledon battled to a 3-2 victory with 2 goals in the final 2 minutes gave us the points. Full report to follow, but for now the Man Of The Match Vote is now open and will be until Tuesday evening, please click below to vote.
This afternoon the Matchday service will be in operation from around 14:30 once I know the team news. Robert Ursell: 43 votes 65.15%On Saturday We visit Horsham who so far have Won one game Newport 1-0 at home on Tuesday night, and lost 4-1 at Bromley last Saturday. If you wish to travel by train you can get either a train from Wimbledon and change at Epsom or via Clapham Junction to horsham, the journey takes about an hour and the suggested train times from Wimbledon are 11:50 or 12:20 via Clapham Junction arriving at Horsham at 12:57 or 13:25. Or the 12:44 via Epsom arriving at Horsham at 13:43.
It's about a 10 minute walk to the ground from the station and you can see a map here. Come out of the station and walk down New Street to Queen Street and the ground is just down Queensway Road. If you are driving it is suggested that you park in the town centre. Two ticket reminders, On Saturday we are away at Horsham and the game isn't all ticket terrace prices are £6.50 for Adults but tickets are limited to 2,500 so we should all be ok in getting in.
If your a season ticket holder in the seats at Kingsmeadow, just a reminder that you have until Monday morning to reserve your seat for the FA Cup match against Ashford Town on 4th September, after that date you may not get your usual seat for the game. The Prediction competition I am running will remain open until the end of the month but all you need to do is send me an e-mail to paul@itmustbedons.com listing who you think will finish in the top 6 and which of them teams you are most confident about. Points will be awarded if you are correct and the person with the most points will have the honour of being the champion.
Last night we had a 3-1 victory at Croydon Athletic the goals came from Rob Ursell who scored in 5th and 28th Minute and then Jamie Taylor scored our 3rd in the 64th Minute. Croydon's goal came about via a defensive error on 72nd minute.
The first goal came about with Richard Butler showing some good early work the ball came out to Rob Ursell and he curled it into the back of the net. Croydon started to create some problems especially down the left side, but around the 28th minute Robert Ursell scored his second when the ball was played across the box and fired home from close range. The third goal was a brilliant finish by Jamie Taylor but this had been created by Joe Sheerin's first touch after coming on he met the ball from a throw near the by-line, back healed it to Jamie Taylor who dispatched it to the back of the net. Before the end of the game the Croydon goalkeeper was forced into to very good saves, On the whole it was a good performance and keeps us on maximum points. The Man Of The Match Vote for the game that finished a few hours ago (typing this at 00:13) is now open please click below to vote and the poll will remain open until 07:00 on Saturday morning.
The Result Of The Man Of The Match Poll from Saturday's game is as follows: -
Jamie Taylor 70 Votes 56.00%Tonight all of our Senior Men's Teams were in Action and We had Three Victories, The First Team won 3-1 at Croydon Athletic, Rob Ursell with 2 goals and Jamie Taylor go the goals, The Reserves also won 3-1 in the first league game of the season, but possibly the result of the night goes to The Under 18's Who had 9 players missing and we beat Bedfont in the League 2-0.
Tonight sees the Matchday live service in operation as well as my text updates which you can view by clicking here The AFC Wimbledon Official Site will also have half time and full time reports shortly after the whistle has been blown.
Tonight we play at Croydon Athletic and although the address is listed as Thornton Heath I understand that it's a fair distance away from Thornton Heath train station. It is suggested that the best way is to get a tram to Theripia Lane and then walk the ground has been signposted from the tram stop and should take between 5 and 10 minutes. If you want to get a bus you can get a 264 from Tooting, Mitcham or Croydon, get off the bus at just past Croydon Cemetery walk up Aurellia Road and then follow the footpath to the ground. A map of the area can be found here and the tram stop is at the bottom of the page.
Andy Sullivan has announced he is leaving AFC Wimbledon. Andy has been with us since pre-season in 2002 and is a brilliant guy. After working hard all over the summer he got injured in the opening minutes of the Dagenham and Redbridge game and this has seen him miss the remainder of the games. He has made a brilliant farewell message on the Official Site and Dave Anderson has also wished him all the best.
Sully is a really nice guy and I wish him all the best, and as with most of us wish him all the best in the future. The draw was today made for the 1st Round of the Bryco Cup (Our League Cup) and we have been drawn at home to Flackwell Heath who play in Division Two the game is due to be played on the week of Monday 26th October and therefore I would imagine the game to be played at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday 26th October with a 19:45 Kick off.
Although we don't play until Wednesday night there is a full programme tonight and the fixtures are as follows, I have now added the results and the table has been updated , but Met Police and Hastings are on maximum points: -
Ashford Town 1-1 Bromley Banstead Athletic 0-1 Hastings United Bashley 0-0 Corinthian Casuals Cray Wanderers 2-2 Leatherhead Dorking 2-1 Dulwich Hamlet Fleet Town 0-1 Molesey Horsham 1-0 Newport IOW Metropolitan Police 2-1 Tooting & Mitcham United Walton & Hersham 2-0 Burgess Hill Town Whyteleafe 1-1 CroydonOnce the result are known I will update the league table.Just a reminder that we play at Croydon Athletic on Wednesday evening and with all other teams playing on Tuesday we will be knocked off the table for a period of time. Tuesday will see a full list of the games as well as details about Wednesday nights games. Don't forget both the Poll and Man Of The Match is still open so if you haven't voted yet please do so.
As you may have heard over the summer a big event is taking place on Sunday 12th September 2004 and today details were announced.
In an event that will raise money for the AFC Wimbledon Stadium Fund and also see a Donation made to the "Hillsborough fund". Full initial details are on the official Site but there will be (it looks like) three 60 minute games an Liverpool XI VS Wimbledon XI with both teams having stars from the 1988 game then a fans match and then a celebrity game so a full day of events. Once more information is known I will let people know. But already it looks like it will be a quality day.The result of the poll of who would start up front for Yesterday's game against Ashford was as follows: -
1. Joe Sheerin And Richard Butler 27 Votes (16%)Right this should be fun, your choice to say who was your Man Of The Match For the game today, The vote will remain open until 19:30 on Wednesday evening. If you have never voted before please do by clicking the link below: -
Today's results are as follows and amazingly there was not one draw in the Ryman league Division One today.
AFC Wimbledon 5-1 Ashford Town Bromley 4-1 HorshamA lot of apprehension was going round this morning about how the new players would fit in, how the step up would affect us, but even after the shock of going 1 goal down after the first 20 minutes when we had had the better of the chances we almost stepped into "CCL Destruction Mode" and scored 3 goals in 7 minutes to go in at half time 3-1.
The first goal was a tap in from Richard Butler, The second was by Jamie Taylor and the third was by Steve Butler. But the best was yet to come first of all on 48 minutes Richard Butler got his 2nd goal and then on 74 minutes a brilliant all-round move saw Jamie Taylor also get his second of the game where he curled in the ball with the outside of his boot into the top corner. It was a brilliant performance all round and lets hope that it's the first of many this season. So the fixture list has thrown up a Top of the table clash for the first day of the season, Alphabetical order is a wonderful thing.
During the match today you will have the choice if you are near a computer you have two options if you have a PC where you can listen to sound check out Radio Wdon if you do have access to a computer but cant listen to the sound you can view the text services, either the service i offer by clicking the links above or on the left hand side, or the ones that are offered by Dons Online also listed on the left hand side. The official site will also show in line out style Goals, Subs, booking sending's off as well as at half time and full time a Match report will be posted almost as soon as the whistle is blown. Then either later today or on Sunday the official site TV coverage should be up to be viewed. So a new set of teams today on the fixture list and the full list of fixtures is as follows: - Bromley Vs HorshamThe Start of the season is always a exciting time but this morning I was awake at 06:30 and was just raring to go. Today will see loads of wombles in new shirts looking round a spruced up ground and a pitch that looks fantastic.
So lets get behind the team and show Dave, JT, Wazza and the new players that although pre-season has been impressive it's nothing compared to Matchday. The players who were with us last year know what we can be like but lets step it up a gear today and show the Ryman League we mean business on the pitch and on the terraces. With the new season underway just a reminder that if you can spare a bit of time before the game you could offer help to The Dons Trust team as they are planning a busy day tomorrow as both The Dons Draw and The Sponsor A Seat are both launched. Also Golden Goals will be back and you all know what fun they can be. So if you can help if you go to the Dons Trust area near the main turnstiles and they will be pleased to find you something to do.
Tomorrow sees a date that I think we have all been waiting for since the final whistle was blown on May 8th as the new season get's under way. The final squad on the official site is as expected but a lot of guessing is still going on over who will start and who will be on the bench.
Lets get a huge crowd down to cheer the lads on to what has the making of an exciting season and also a chance to have a look at the team we will be playing in a few weeks time in the FA Cup.On Thursday Night the Under 18's lost 4-2 to Crystal Palace at Kingsmeadow in there final pre-season game both our goals were scored in the second half the first a Bradley Drake penalty and the second a header by Niall Connery.
Both sides agreed it was a good work out and should set us up nicely for the start of the season which starts on Wednesday night when the Under 18's visit Bedfont.Tonight Nicky English and Keith Ward will put the Under 18's through there final pre-season game as we take on Crystal Palace Youth team. After the training session on all the lads were well looking forward to the game and a chance to play at Kingsmeadow for the first time and also for the first time pulling on the new kit.
I am sure everyone knows what AFC Wimbledon means to Nicky and Keith so it would be really nice if you get a chance to come down to the game tonight to show your support the game kicks off at 19:30 and the bar will be open as well. The poll for who you think should start up front on Saturday is still open and at the moment it is very close so if you haven't voted yet and wish to please do so by clicking here.
As you may have seen the funeral of Keira Ivers will take place on Friday morning. The following is the message from John -
"Keira Jaimee Ivers funeral is to be held at London Road Cemetery (Figges Marsh), Mitcham on Friday 13th August service to start at 10am. People are welcome to attend and Karen & John invite people to go back to their house at 30, Guildford Way; Wallington; Surrey after the service. Flowers from Family members only, donations to Down's Syndrome Association c/o Gillman Funeral Service; 205 London Road; Mitcham; Surrey; CR4 2JD"With the season starting at the weekend I thought I would introduce a "Top 6 prediction competition" all you need to do is e-mail me on paul@itmustbedons.com With the names and position of the top 6 teams when the table is finished at the end of the season. Points will be awarded if the team finishes in the top 6, if you get the position right, and you can predict a "hot Selection" where double points will be on offer if your right.
With no form guide as such to go on I will allow entry's up to 3pm (date/time stamped by my e-mail programme) On Saturday 21st August so you could wait until the first two games have been played if you wish. There is no prize just the honour of your predictions. In Tuesday's South London Press The suggestion is that goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt could train with Palace one day a week whilst we could get some of Palace's non playing youngsters to help out the squad. A question that hasn't been raised yet but could well be asked is will this possibly lead to an AFC Wimbledon vs Crystal Pre-season game at the start of next season? I guess we will have to just wait and see. Lets hope this ends up being of good benefit to us.
Following Monday's night game Dave Anderson did and "TV" interview for the official Site this can be watched on the official site and has been recorded in Windows Media Player Format, it's lasts for 6 and a half minutes and is in file size is around 7mb. If you haven't seen it yet click here to view the report and tv coverage.
Tonight's had a strange feel to it not only did a lot of the crowd seem that we had watched too much pre-season action but it was almost like them games you get in the build up to a big cup final. In that players want to make sure that they are ready for the big day on Saturday and the feeling from the supporters afterwards was lets get it on.
We started well right from the off and we could of been a goal up inside the first couple of minutes as Andy Sullivan had a good shot saved. Our first goal came from Gavin Bolger on 19 minutes when he fired home inside the 18 year box. At half time we made a number of changes but continued to have the better of the chances our second goal was one that Richard butler enjoyed as it was his first for AFC Wimbledon against his old club and gave us a 2-0 lead.Shortly after there was an unfortunate incident when The Ashford keeper suffered concussion with Joe Sheerin and ended up being taken to Hospital. Just before the end of the game a bit of Joe Sheerin magic following a Steve Gibson cross made the score 3-0 and saw another good night completed.Once again we had a number of good performances out on the pitch and it's clear to see how the team is taking shape in time for the big kick off on Saturday.Tonight we play the second of three games against Ashford Town in a week, Ok it's two different Ashford Town's and the other game was played Sunday when our Under 14's played the Kent version and we won 4-2. The game tonight is against the Middlesex side and the team that Richard Butler used to play for. Tonight we should once again have Radio Wdon as well as the text updates so if you cant make the game you can stay in touch from home.
On Sunday morning I heard the very sad news that John Ivers 10 week old daughter Keira had died. I just wanted to let John and his family know that all AFC Wimbledon fans are thinking of him and his family at this very sad time.
The result of last weeks poll with the question "Based on Pre-Season So Far Are you Confident for the Season?" the results are as follows: -
1. Yes A Lot 36 Votes (32%)On a day where probably if you weren't at Kingsmeadow the best play to be would of been on a beach well it was conference south side Bognor who ended on the rocks as AFC Wimbledon ended up 3-0 victors.
We got off to a cracking start when on 9 minutes a corner was played into the back post area and was met by Matt Everard's head and fired into the back of the net. On Tuesday night when there was almost an element of expectation for Matt to head home the goal this came right out of the blue and yet again proved what an asset he is at both ends of the pitch. There were two more major scoring chances in the first half first up some lovely link up play between Ursell, Gray and Jamie Taylor saw his double effort blocked on the line and Bognor forced Danny Naisbitt into a quality save that saw him tip the ball over for a corner. So the half time score was 1-0 and the players had a well deserved break and we also made a few changes as Steve Gibson, Gavin Bolger and Richard Butler replaced Micky Woolner, Antony Howard and Joe Sheerin.During the half Richard Butler continued to show his ability in holding up the ball and playing it out to the likes of Jamie Taylor and Ryan Gray to play on to. With it looking like it was going to finish 1-0 to us Ryan Gray latched on to a great ball from gareth Graham on the edge of the box and fired home for a 2-0 lead and the game was over but with the last kick of the game the shy retiring Rob Ursell who had played all game in Gold coloured Boots finished off some lovely work by Jamie Taylor for his 4th goal in 6 games. There is no denying that this is a brilliant result and the fitness of the players looks really good. We have one more pre-season game and then the league season starts in full, lets bring it on.This afternoon I will be providing text updates as we take on Bognor Regis Town of the Conference South. You can view the text updates and any pictures that I send over can be viewed by clicking the Matchday link at either the top or side of the page. The page will auto refresh every 2 minutes so you should always have up-to date information on your screen. If you have speakers and wish to listen to the commentary live you can do via Radio Wdon and the link is on the left. Also This season The Official Site will have match reports at both half time and full time a matter of seconds after the whistle is blown. So if you cant make the game we should have all angles covered and don't forget that on Sunday we the video coverage from Dons Online should be up and running.
Right If you have applied for a season ticket for the new season you may wish to over the next few days greet your postman with a nice cup of tea, some biscuits or just grab the post off him and shut the door before he claims it's the wrong house (sorry to any postie's out there you do a great job). Early Friday afternoon The vast majority of Season Ticket's were collected by the Royal Mail and so should be dropping through doors either today or very early next week. The season ticket also includes some very important information so make sure you keep it in a safe place and read the enclosures that have been sent out. I mentioned a number of the people who have helped out but one other name who I understand may have been helping on Thursday evening, Mrs Dobo apparently was passing and helped so you may have receive your season ticket packaged up by Darren's mum.
Both the reserves and first team's have been announced on the Official Site and a couple of players are involved in both squads. So if you are able to get to Grand Drive for the 11:30 kick off it could well be worth checking it out. I wont be able to make the reserve game but will be providing match updates from kingsmeadow for the first team game against Bognor Regis in the afternoon.
Following the Question and Answer session the other week I have put together a page that has the text and audio files for you to listen to. To see it please click here.
This Saturday you could get to watch two games first up at 11:30 is the Reserves vs Raynes Park Vale and this will be played at Raynes Park's ground in Grand Drive then with that finishing by 13:30 you could jump on a train or bus to Kingsmeadow and watch the first team play Bognor Regis Town in a 15:00 kick off.
Tonight the Reserves and the Under 18's were in Action the Reserves won 4-0 against Kew Association and joe Sheerin was on the score sheet, While the score for the under 18's was 3-3 on 81 minutes when the game was abandoned due to floodlight Failure. We had been 3-1 up at Half time. The game also included a couple of very funny ref moments. 1) when the ref failed to play advantage and was asked about it his reply was but I have seen your finishing, The player concerned scored our 3rd goal. 2) When one of our players handled the ball he said "Why did you do that you doughnut?"
Just a reminder the poll vote is still open for this week so if you haven't voted as of yet please do so by clicking the vote in current poll link on the left of the screen.
Tonight after an Afternoon of Torrential Rain and Thunder and Lightening strikes the two teams of Kingsmeadow met on the pitch for the "Trevor Jones Memorial Cup" Trevor Jones was a Kingstonian player who died last year. So although the terrible conditions made traveling to the game difficult a decent crowd of 1,101 turned up to watch the game.
With us attacking the West Bank end of the ground we got off to a quick fire start when in only the second minute a Ryan Gray Cross was headed towards goal by Richard Butler the keeper, Lance Key, save the ball but it came out to Jamie Taylor who fired home and put us 1-0 up. Kingstonian's leveled the score on 28 minutes when a free kick was taken out wide near the half way line it was played to beyond the far post and a header went past Danny Naisbitt and into the back of the net so the score was level at Half Time. 20 Minutes into the second half Antony Howard was adjudged to have handled the ball and a penalty was awarded The ball was hit just to Danny Naisbitt's Right but he managed to save it and the score was still 1-1. Kingstonian's made a number of changes even to the level where they had 3 different players wearing the number 2 shirt. As the game went on we started to get more into it. Then as everyone started to think about penalties, this was a "Cup Game" we won a corner and for the first time of the evening Matt Everard went up to get ready for it Robert Ursell went up to take the corner he hit it into the back of the box and almost from the same position as where Kingstonian had got there goal Matt Everard was there to head home and put us 2-1 up Although you would of expected us to play out time but even before I could complete the update for Matt's goal Jamie Taylor had his second of the night and we were 3-1 up. THen in the final minute Jamie Taylor did some more good work and got the ball out to Joe Sheerin who fired home to give us a 4-1 victory. The score line was a bit on the flattering side but the important thing is that Kingstonian's are a league higher than us so hopefully this will be a good indicator for the season.Tonight it's Kingstonian vs AFC Wimbledon with a 19:45 kick off. As this is an Away game I believe that there will be no merchandise on Sale and that Radio Wdon will not be in action. Also as you may be aware Kingstonian's are possibly due to be taken over and the proceeds from the game are being given to the supporter who is trying to buy the club when the deal is completed.
The text updates will be in operation from around about 19:15 once I get any team news so by clicking on either the link at the top or down the left hand side of the screen you can follow all the action. The Official Site in the Features section has put up the Audio version and Transcription from the "Evening With Dave Anderson". After at first thinking that the Audio had been lost a big thanks to Toni Sheppard who managed to have a copy of it and also to Jane Lonsdale who transcribed it. I may do something with it myself as I have a copy of it as well. Anyway it's well worth a read and very enjoyable.
With the league season starting a week on Saturday Operation Season Ticket kicked in to full gear today with the first stage of production of all the books prior to them all being sent out "if it goes to plan" later this week so that everyone should get them before the first home game of the season on the 14th August. As with so many things that go on at the club the putting together of the pack that includes the season ticket books is done by volunteers so a big thanks today to John, Paddy, Richard, Jane, Ruth, Jo and Kate all under the brilliant organisation of Mags.
The result of the poll that has been running for the past week is as follows: - The Question was "Did You hear Dave Anderson's Q&A session and what did you think?"

Today's games saw wins for the Reserves and Under 18's while the First team had a draw at Harrow.
The Reserves beat Epsom and Ewell 6-1 with Joe Sheerin getting a goal and completing 85 minutes and Jones Bamfo picking up a hat-trick to take him to 5 goals in under the past 48 hours. On a pitch next to the reserves the Under 18's got there first victory with a 3-1 win against Chipstead. After the game was level at half time at 0-0 Chipstead took the lead before Stephen Godard got a hat-trick for Nicky English and Keith Wards team. The first team had a 1-1 draw Matt Everard put us 1-0 up after 2 minutes but Harrow leveled in the second half. Andy Sullivan came on in the second half so lets hope his injury problems are over. This weekend The first Team, Reserves, Under 18's, Ladies and Ladies Reserves are all in action. This morning at the training ground in Tolworth (Kingston University Sports Ground) The Reserves team with guest appearances from Joe Sheerin and Jones Bamfo will be Playing Epsom and Ewell in a 10:30 kick off then at 11:00 the Under 18's at the same venue will be playing Chipstead. At 3pm at Harrow Borough the first team are in action as well.
On Sunday there are two games at Kingsmeadow at 10:30 the ladies reserve side are playing Carshalton Athletic and then at 2pm the ladies first team take on last years ladies double winners Arsenal. So if you fancy an late Morning and Afternoon of watching football come down to Kingsmeadow on Sunday.I wont be at the game at Harrow Borough today so there will be no text updates sorry about this.
Sorry about the lack of updates over the last few days but things have been a bit busy. On Thursday night both the Under 18's and the reserves were in action although the reserves had a number of first team player in the team. The Under 18's lost 4-2 at Whyteleafe and the Reserves won 9-0 at Bedfont Sports the goals in the Reserve game were as follows, Joe Sheerin, Jones Bamfo and Rob Hill who all got 2 goals each and Marc Skinner, Leon McDowell and Lewis Taylor who score one goal each.
The Official Site has announced that Seb Favata is leaving and has comments from both Seb and Dave Anderson. Seb has been a real star for us and I wish him all the best although I am sure he will pop in to a game and say hello and goodbye to everyone.
Tonight the Under 18's are playing at Whyteleafe in a pre-season game. will provide a report and pictures over the next few days. If you fancy coming to the game it's a 7:30 kick off at the ground where we played Chipstead in the league and Whyteleafe in the pre-season game last year in church road. Kick off is at 19:30.
The Official Site has details of seven more players who have agreed deals with Dave Anderson, So I Will try and break down all the players who have been mentioned so far.
Goalkeepers - Danny Naisbitt - Paul SmithTonight we played our latest pre-season game and we ended up with a 1-1 draw at Conference side Gravesend and Northfleet. We took the lead on 16 minutes when Gavin Bolger beat the off side trap and slotted past the keeper. Gravesend's goal came on about the 70 minute mark when a free kick was awarded to them and it was headed in at the back post.
I thought it was a game where we had the better of the first half and they did in the second but a draw was a fair result. Steve butler made his AFC Wimbledon debut but luckily Dave took off Richard Butler at the same time as brining on Steve. Danny Naisbitt had an impressive game and pulled off some good saves during the game. The majority of the side today was based on the 2003/04 team and they all put in a good performance. The photo's I took on Saturday at the Barnet game can be viewed here as with all match pics by clicking on them you can view a large 800 by 600 version of the picture.
The Official Site has confirmed that Danny Oakins has left the club over the past few weeks there have been suggestions of Danny joining Aldershot and Sutton United. Dave's comments on Danny's departure can be found on the Official Site but just like to wish Danny all the best and hope we can see him down at Kingsmeadow when he is not playing. All the best Danny.
At yesterday's game the two normal sources for filming games were not present so on the off chance did anyone film Robert Ursell's second goal if they did I would love to host the clip if possible. So if you do have it can you please drop me an e-mail.The result of the poll - "Have You seen A Fans Club The Musical" was as
follows: -
1. Yes 17 Votes (40%)
2. Yes More Than Once 0 Vote (0%)
3. No Seeing it this week 9 Votes (21%)
4. No couldn't get tickets during this run 7 Votes (17%)

Last weekend Barnet played at home to Arsenal and Arsenal after falling behind ended up 10-1 winners with the clubs being 5 levels apart, the same as us and Barnet a number of people went into this game thinking would the gap show and could we end up on the wrong end of a big score line?
On a brilliant summers afternoon Kingsmeadow had a healthy crowd in it for the first game of the season and with a large number of the crowd in the new kit and the whole day had a nice feel about it. Danny Naisbitt lead the team out which I imagine was due to this being against his old club and we started by attacking the West Bank End of the ground. The game was delayed for 15 minutes as Barnet had got caught on the Motorway and didn't arrive until 14:30. Right from the off we were straight on the attack and forced a number of corners. And then just after the 15 minute mark the Barnet Keeper was forced into a mistake when he kicked the ball straight to Robert Ursell on the edge of the box and he rounded the keeper before putting the ball into the back of the net and 1-0 to the dons. We continued to push forward and then one of them magic moments that make you sit up came upon us. At the half hour mark was almost on us Ursell curled in a brilliant goal one that had everyone thinking "Wow what a player we have here". We were now 2-0 up against a conference side who had reached the play-off's last season and at half time we were 2-0 up. The second half saw Richard Butler come on to replace Jamie Taylor who had played really well there were a number of changes during the second half including Steve Gibson for Matt Everard, Jay Conroy replaced by Seb Favata, Martin Randall replaced by Jones Bamfo and Gareth Graham by Chris Head. As the game came to an end Richard Butler was fouled in the penalty box and Stephen Cook pointed to the spot for Robert Ursell to fire home his and our third goal of the day. The result but more so the performance was a really good one. Gavin Bolger had a brilliant header smash against the bar in the first half and the return of Matt Everard as well as the first chance to have a proper look at Richard Butler will see the squad begin to take shape. The next game is on Tuesday when we play another conference side in Gravesend and Northfleet so it should be interesting to see how we get on.Today we have our first home pre-season game when we play Barnet at Kingsmeadow at 3pm. Both Radio Wdon and my match texts will be in operation so if you cant make the game and are near a computer you should be able to keep up with the action. If you are driving to the game there are roadwork's along the Kingston road near the ground so a suggestion is to go down coombe road and then turn to the bottom of Gloucester Road at the bottom turn left and the ground is about 100 yards on your right.
Well that's how it must have seemed to Dave Anderson and John Turner tonight as they for the first time faced the AFC Fans. Before the Q&A session got under way the new AFC Wimbledon kit went on sale and when the doors opened at 7pm a rush of people greeted the merchandise team.
The question and answer sessions was a brilliant success with Dave answering loads of questions from the obvious one about Kevin Cooper, to player fitness, How far he hopes to take us and plans for the season. One thing that Dave announced was the fact that Robert Ursell had today signed a 1 year contract with an option of a second year, although we were all hoping he would it was made even sweeter when Dave announced that Robert had turned down the chance at a "pro" club to join us. As Dave pointed out it was clear Robert knew which of the two clubs had the potential to be the way up, I am sure that Robert will get a brilliant reception tomorrow at the Barnet game.Horsham YMCA. I wasn't at the game tonight but the full time result was Horsham YMCA 2 AFC Wimbledon 0. Richard Butler played the second half and initial reports were he played well. A full Match report can be read on the Official Site by clicking here.
Tomorrow evening (Friday) the new AFC Wimbledon kit is launched at Kingsmeadow this will be our kit for the next 2 seasons and goes on sale at 19:00 in the back bar at Kingsmeadow at 20:00 in the main Bar Dave Anderson will be holding a question and Answers session where you can ask him questions and listen to the answers while having a drink at the ground.
The kit has been displayed on the official site and is in a pop up window on the official site but if you machine doesn't allow pop up's and you want to see it the following links may help. If you cant make the kit launch the Question and Answer session will be broadcast on Radio Wdon. I also understand that the new Kit will also be on sale on Saturday at our first home pre-season game against Barnet.Just to let you know I wont be at the Horsham YMCA game on Thursday night so there will be no live updates, sorry about that. If you are going please be aware that Horsham YMCA's ground backs on to Horsham and both teams are at home with Horsham playing Crawley so make sure that you go into the right ground or you may end up watching the wrong game. If your going by train the ground doesn't look too far from the station you need to get to the Brighton road B281 and then go down goring's mead a map can be seen by clicking here.
Tonight We lost the Supporters Direct Cup after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford. Although the defeat was expected the performance was very good and a good turnout of supporters showed everyone at the club what we are about. A more detailed report tomorrow but We went behind in the first 5 minutes when Brentford scored from a corner. Some good play from us saw us have the ball in the back of the net but the ref disallowed it for pushing so we went in 1-0 at half time. In the second half Brentford scored a second that was a cracking shot and Danny Naisbitt had no chance to save it and then with the last kick of the game Brentford scored again but the goal was disallowed so the score finished 2-0 to Brentford. A number of really good performances tonight but one that stood out Was Danny Oakins. Anyway more on Wednesday evening. A couple of well done off the pitch to the Leicester fans who were at the game and I understand that some Leeds fans may have been present so thank you for coming to our game and hope you enjoyed it.
Tonight we play Brentford and we could be up against Deon Burton, Frank Sinclair and John Salako. It should be a big test for us but once again I imagine that Dave and the management team may be more interested about the performance. The Text Updates will be in action tonight and you can see them by clicking on the matchday link above.
On Tuesday night we are up for defending the cup when we won our first match as AFC Wimbledon. The Supporters Direct Cup which is contested between clubs that are run or have supporter backed clubs. The first time it was contested we beat Enfield Town 3-2 but Tuesday night sees us travel to Brentford for the game.
The evening has also be declared a fans united game and as well as the obvious supporters from Brentford and AFC Wimbledon a group of Leicester City fans will also be in attendance. Ticket prices for the evening are £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for children and you can go in any part of the ground. The gate money from the game will be split between the clubs. Prior to the game if you looking for somewhere to have a drink go to any corner outside the ground as Brentford's ground is surrounded by pubs, it's suggested the Griffin may be a good pub and has been suggested for a meeting place for AFC Wimbledon, Brentford and Leicester fans. Another appeal is from Brentford who are holding an old shirt collection for disadvantage kids in Thailand. So if you have any old shirts you know longer want bring them along to the game and hand them in at the collection point. In terms of getting to Brentford the easiest way is train. Trains depart Clapham Junction at 4 and 34 minutes past the hour and take 17 minutes the ground is about a 5 minute walk from the station and you can see a map by clicking here. Lets get a nice big crowd at the game and see what could be a very big test for Dave and the boys. You can view the pictures that I took at Saturday's game at Banstead by clicking here. If you like any of the picture by clicking on any of them you will be able to see a bigger version of them (800 by 600 pixels)
The result of the poll held over the past week is as follows:
"What Was Your Impression Of The AFC Wimbledon Squad At Dagenham & Redbridge?"The London Senior Cup draw has seen us get a Bye to Third round where we will be at home to the winners of Hanwell Town who play the winners of Brimsdown Rovers and Crown and Manor the full draw can be viewed by clicking here The tie is due to be played by 6th November and if both teams were to win there various matches we could meet Hendon in the 5th round which is the quarter finals.
Thanks to a bit of help from a poster on another site I have found a link to some information on AFC Wimbledon's number 7 on Saturday Robert Ursell. He used to play for Chiswick Albion and his player Profile can be found here
Dave Anderson today chalked up his first AFC Wimbledon victory after a 2-1 victory over Banstead. The goals were scored in the 2nd minute through triallist Martin Randall and in the 88 minute by Jones Bamfo.
A smaller squad was taken to Banstead this week compared to the squads that were taken to Dagenham and Redbridge for the first game but once again had a few new faces for us and Dave to judge. The starting line up was as follows - Danny Naisbitt, Micky Woolner, Ryan Gray, Anthony Howard, Jamie Angell, Roger Joseph, Robert Ursell, Chris Gell, Martin Randall, Jamie Taylor and Gareth Graham. So the new players this time were Robert Ursell and Martin Randall and it wasn't long before people knew a bit more about Martin Randall as he put us 1-0 up after just 2 minutes. A bit of a defensive mix up allowed Banstead to level the score on 5 minutes. Banstead had a period of about 5 minutes where they seemed to have the better of the play but after that most of the first half was ours. Dave Anderson seemed to be pleased with how the players had been responding to the tactical instructions from the bench. As the half time whistle blew Dave elected to keep the players out on the pitch for the break as it would of been very tight in the changing rooms. At half time the following changes were made with Jamie Angell, Gareth Graham, Jamie Taylor and Chris Gell being replaced by Mark Williams, Gavin Bolger, Seb Favata and Steve Gibson. We continued to play well and some of the fast flowing link up play was a pleasure to watch. Mark Williams had a cracking shot that was tipped over the bar by the keeper. The next lot of changes saw Danny Naisbitt and Martin Randall replaced by Paul Smith and Jones Bamfo, and after the problems Jones caused last week it was clear that he would be given similar instructions which were run at the defence. The last normal sub of the game was Lewis Taylor on for Ryan Gray who had played really well. Both Jamie Taylor and Gareth Graham returned for the final 10 minutes of the match and replaced Robert Ursell and another player who at the moment I cant work out.(Sorry) As the game was coming to an end Jones Bamfo broke into the box and fired past the keeper to put us 2-1 up and give us the victory. Dave Anderson looked rightly pleased and you could see him thinking Jones could do some real damage this season in the last 20 minutes of games and I am sure we will see this happen. So a 2-1 victory and a good performance that showed alot of promise. Dave originally said that he may look to reduce the squad after the Banstead game but I think he could have a few difficult choices now as a few players have been missing and a number of promising players have been on display. The Matchday live will be in operation this afternoon from Banstead Athletic. After the problems last week I think I have sorted them out including the auto refresh so I will try to go full pelt with the updates to test it today. To view the updates please click the Matchday button above and they should start from around 14:45 this afternoon.
Saturday afternoon we make the trip to Banstead for our second pre-season game a number of people have thought that Banstead was a strange choice as we will be playing them in the league this year, but I understand it's part of our agreement for the reserves to play on the pitch at Merland Rise this season. The ground is near Tattenham Corner station and trains depart from East Croydon at 5 and 35 minutes past the hour the journey takes about 28 minutes and it's then about 15 minute walk. A map of the area can be found at the following link.
In the past 24 hours 2 departures have been announced from various positions at the club first up the club have announced that John Harris who was the sports therapist has been replaced by Mike Rayner who worked with Dave at Hendon. I would like to wish John all the best and welcome Mike to the club, lets hope he is not to busy this season.
Second Thank you goes to Lou Carlton-Kelly who has announced she is stepping down from the Dons Trust Board. It was Lou's suggestion a good few seasons before AFC Wimbledon was established of a Trust being set-up, so Lou had a big part in the formation of this brilliant club we now have, So a big thanks Lou and look forward to seeing you during the season at the ground.Just a reminder that the poll on how you rated our performance at the Dagenham and Redbridge game on Saturday is still open and will be until Sunday, so if you haven't done, and wish to vote please click the vote link on the left hand side.
The Calendar part of the site has been updated with all the league fixtures for the season so it may help you in planning the months between August 2004 and the end of April 2005.
After last weeks delay the League fixtures were announced at just after 10:00am this morning and on the whole it's not a bad list we start the season with a home game against Ashford Town and just 3 weeks before we play them in the cup. The planned booking of the trip to Newport Isle Of Wight will have to be put on hold as although it is planned for early October it clashes with the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup so if either us or Newport get that far the game would b off.
I am just about to start putting the fixtures onto the site but for the time being you can view the list in full by going to the Official Site.Following the AFC Wimbledon visit to the House Of Commons an Early Day Motion has been raised regarding us. Early Day Motions are requests by member of parliament to bring topics to the awareness of other MP's that would normally not be discussed in the house of commons. The Early Day Motion is number 1491 and you can read the wording of it and see who has signed it by clicking here.
The EDM was only launched on Monday and therefore most MP wouldn't have seen it as of yet but if it gets more than 100 names to it, it will have done very well. So check to see if your MP has signed it and you could always ask them to support it.
The fixtures for the Ryman league are now expected to be announced on Wednesday 14th July at 12:00. As you may have seen in The Non League Paper part of the problem was due to "security issues" with us and "travel issues" with Newport IOW. The fixtures are expected to be quickly put on the Official Site and I imagine I will have details on here either Wednesday evening or during Thursday.
As mentioned on the Official Site the Under 18's will be playing home games at Kingsmeadow on Thursday evenings so if you have nothing planned come down and watch the possible future of the club in action. In the league Cup although no date has been announced as of yet we have been drawn at home to Worthing and in fact we have been drawn at home in every further round we play in.
The Under 18's will be playing a number of pre-season games over the next month and I will bring you details on here as soon as they are confirmed but watch out we are expecting one high profile game to be announced at Kingsmeadow before the start of season for the Under 18's so keep an eye out for it.I have had a story published on the official site giving a bit of an insight into the trials and training sessions for the Under 18's you can read what I had to say by clicking here and incase any one is wondering only the title and one part of the text was changed.
To view the pictures I took on Saturday with my digital camera click here also by clicking on any of them will give you a 800 by 600 copy. I hope you like them.
So the first pre-season game of the season and it was a chance to see a number of the players that have been at pre-season training. At the end of last week it was announced that FIFA had introduced a maximum of 6 subs rule for all games and it had caught out a couple of teams in the previous few days, Gillingham and Wycombe had both been stopped from brining on more subs and the ref walked off in Saturday's Fulham Vs Watford game at Craven Cottage.
But both managers had agreed that a side would be played in each half so the starting line up for AFC Wimbledon was as follows: - 1) Danny Naisbitt; 2) Michael Woolner, 3) Paul Quinn , 4) Anthony Howard, 5) Matt Everard, 6) Jon-Barrie Bates, 7) Andy Sullivan - replaced on 4 min's by 12) Lee Sidwell, 8)Gareth Graham, 9)Joe Sheerin, 10) Jamie Taylor, 11)Chris Head. Andy Sullivan had a thigh injury and reports afterwards suggested he could be out for a few weeks. The score at half time was 0-0 we had a couple of chances and on the whole the performance had been promising. The line up for the second half was as follows: 1) Danny Naisbitt replaced by 13) Paul Smith on 65 min's, 18) Darren Dobinson, 2) Danny Oakins, 14) Roger Joseph, 17) Steve Gibson, 20)Ryan Gray, 15)Chris Gell, 19)Seb Favata, 12) Lee Sidwell replaced by 7) Jones Bamfo on 65 min's, 16) Mark Williams, 3) Billy Sentence. Although Dagenham scored the only goal of the game on 50th minute past Danny Naisbitt it was a good performance by all the players in what was the first time they had been in full match situation together. The best chance of the game for us came to Jon-Barrie Bates but also chances for Paul Quinn and Steve Gibson could of seen us come away with a draw. But for us to lose by just one goal against a conference side is a good result and I am sure over the next few weeks we will see them get used to playing as a team. The poll on are you planning to watch pre-season games has now closed and the result is as follows: -
1. Yes - All Of Them 16 Votes (10%)Sorry about yesterdays text messages it appears there may have been a problem at first with the updating, as I was advised of this I stopped sending messages, the problem was solved in the second half and I sent a few more but I think you will agree that pre-season is time to find these problems and I hope that it didn't spoil your enjoyment of the afternoon. These issues should be sorted this week including the auto refresh problem. The messages and pictures from yesterday are still there so click on matchday if you want to view them.
Right full write up tomorrow but this afternoon we lost 1-0 at Dagenham and Redbridge but it was a promising performance from the players. By the end of the afternoon we had replaced every player so the stats are very confusing to say the least. More in the morning.
Right first matchday service of the season and two main ways to stay in contact with events in Dagenham today I will be providing live text updates from the game and these can be viewed by clicking the matchday link above, these would normally auto refresh but wont today sorry so you will need to press f5 to refresh, also on that page will be some picture I take during the day to see larger versions click the picture you wish to view and you can see it.
If you cant make the game and are not near a computer you can receive a text message with the current score by texting the words dons score to 83248 the text you send will be charged at your normal rate and you will get back an update (usually within about 15 second) of the current score this message costs 25p which will be added to your mobile bill. A commission is added to my account and this will be passed direct on to "The Stadium Fund" If anyone has any problems with this please drop me an e-mail.
Well Football is a Winter sport so if it's first day of pre-season matches it must mean the end of summer. Anyway It's off to Dagenham for Dave Anderson's first game in charge and a chance to see some old and new players.
Of course the 10th July is always a special day as on 2002 was the day of the Sutton games. Anyway enjoy your day and a report on my return. The Following Message Has been sent By Jill Stratton and regards an Entertainments group meeting next week.
Hi all We are looking to launch a new working group. It is to focus on how we can maximise the use of Kingsmeadow other than on match days. We want to get regular music nights, quiz nights, comedy nights etc going and attract in the local community alongside fans of both clubs. The first meeting is being held in the back bar at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday 14th July at 7.30pm. It would be great to see as many of you come along as possible. We need people to become involved who are willing to go off, investigate possible events and with help organise and run the events. All ideas are welcome. It will mean hard work but will also be fun and will help towards paying off the debt.If you are unable to make the meeting (I appreciate it is short notice) but you have any thoughts or ideas you would like considered please feel free to e-mail me at jillstratton@ntlworld.com and I will take them to the meeting with me. Look forward to seeing lots of faces next week.So If you have any ideas drop Jill a line or pop along to the meeting.
Dave Anderson has named his first squad and although FIFA have apparently limited a maximum of 6 substitutes in games now Dave plans to play two teams , one in each half. The only place that doesn't have any familiar faces is in goal where we have two new keepers, But in the rest of the team we have a mixture of Last years players, New Players and Roger Joseph (sorry Rog)
The full squad plus a bit of background information on a few of the new names can be found on the Official Site.On Saturday we can declare Summer Over (Well after Yesterday's Rain it seemed like it's over already) but Saturday see's the return of proper football, well pre-season games at least, As the dons have our first run out against Conference team Dagenham and Redbridge from the Essex / East London boundary.
You may have seen on the official site that the District Line Tube is not running all the way from Wimbledon to Dagenham East so the suggested route is the Jubilee Line from Waterloo to West Ham and then the District Line to Dagenham East. If you haven't been on the new section of the Jubilee line yet it's really nice and modern and at the stations the track is fully enclosed so you know where to stand for the doors to open. The Transport For London Site suggest that Journey time from Waterloo to Dagenham East is about 45 minutes by tube and then it's approximately a 500 yards to the ground so it should be a maximum time of about an hour from Waterloo to the ground. A very good ground guide can be found at the Dagenham fan site DiggerDagger.com. The gate money from the match is also being shared so not only will it be your first chance to see the dons in action but the club get revenue from it as well. I will be adding later ways that you can stay in touch with the action if you cant make the game so don't forget to keep an eye on the site.No Not my words, but the words Of AFC Wimbledon Manager Dave Anderson at tonight's showing of "A Fans Club The Musical" Once again the history of AFC takes another twist as the Brilliant musical played out to a very High Profile Audience.
In the crowd tonight was Kris Stewart, Erik Samuelson, Ivor Heller, Tom Adam, Nicky English, Dave Anderson, The Dobinson's, Trigger, Dave Towse, Nicole Hammond and Me to name a few people and everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely. A lot of people said the show would make you laugh and cry which it did mainly out of fun but most of all it made me very proud of what we have now got. I will do a full review tomorrow but just wanted to put this down for now, Well Done Matt and everyone involved in it.As you may have seen the other Day A Fans Club the musical opened on Tuesday evening and BBC Local news did a bit on the musical I missed the bit on the programme but a poster on another site captured it and for people who haven't seen it you can now watch it by clicking here The clip is 2 minutes long in Windows Media format and is 2.6mb in size. I hope you all enjoy it, I am off to see the Show tonight so will let you know about it either later tonight or tomorrow.
I don't know if people have seen the story on the official site but in the features section is a report on a reception that was held at "The House Of Commons" by "The All Party Football Group and Wimbledon MP Roger Casale" I was lucky enough to be there and it was a really nice afternoon the club were presented with a lovely shield by the group. If you haven't read the report you can do by clicking here.
On Tuesday Night "A Fans Club" The Musical opens at "The Studio - New Wimbledon Theatre" this is a musical written by Matt Couper and staring Alun Armstrong, Alun is a fan of the club and you may remember was in the BBC series New Tricks where he wears an AFC Wimbledon top. And for anyone in Australia I believe this is showing out there now so check your listings.
Good luck to Matt and all involved in it and I am looking forward to seeing it.I have today launched a new poll question and this time it is about the pre-season games and is "Will You be Going To Any AFC Wimbledon Pre-Season Games?" the poll will remain open until next Sunday so if you wish to vote please click the link in the left hand menu or click here.
As the close season comes to a close I thought i would just remind people on what they can find on the site in the run up to games, on match day and also after a match day. As the game approaches there will be a preview normally two nights before a game so Thursday night for Saturday games and Sunday night for Tuesday games. I will also provide travel information for away games in these previews. On Matchday's the live text updates will be running these will be from all games that I attend so should be all first team games as well as a number of reserves, under 18's and Ladies at some of the non first team games it may be just a case of half time and full time scores but hopefully I will also be providing live pictures during the games although these will mainly be before the game, at half time and full time so that it wont delay any text updates.
Following the end of the game a man of the match poll will be held for each first team game and will be held open until the next first team game so that should give everyone a chance to vote. Please bear with me over the next few games as it will be a case of getting to know the players so text updates may be not as detailed as they should be.Two weeks ago I started a poll with the question of "How Many Goals Will The Our Top Goal Scorer get in the 2004/05 Season" I have now closed the poll and the results are as follows: -
1. 10-15 Goals 9 Votes (13%)Next Saturday will see the Dons back in action as the first pre-season game is played. The game is away to Conference team Dagenham and Redbridge, they will be producing a 32 page programme and it will cost £1.50 during the week I will be doing a full build up to this and the new season.
The Draw for the FA Cup has been made and in the Preliminary Round on September 4th we have been drawn against Ashford Town the winners will be away to Dover Athletic in the Qualifying First Round to be played on 18th September.
The draw for the FA Trophy has been made and in the Preliminary Round on Saturday 9th October we have been drawn at home against The Met Police who we will of course be playing in the league this season. Then the winners are away to Hendon, does anyone know anything about them?
Today is the day that most of us have been waiting for all summer it's the day that the very early rounds of the FA Cup are drawn. The draw is expected to be announced at 12:00 over of the Football Association site. As soon as I know the draw I will put it on here for everyone to see.
As you may have seen on the official site the players are well and truly back in the swing of things at pre-season training. Due to me helping Nicky English with the Under 18's I have seen the training sessions and I must say that they have been very good and the players all seem to have responded well to Dave Anderson.
