TV Stars Needed - As the countdown to the launch of the share
issue approaches AFC Wimbledon could be coming to a TV screen near
you very soon and they are asking for your help in being an extra
in it. The advert will have been produced by TBWA the guys behind
the "John Smith" campaign and therefore are bound to be brilliant.
If your interested in taking part we need you to come down to kingsmeadow
on Saturday for 12:30 to have a screen test you must be over 18 years
of age and if selected you will need to be able to attend the filming
that will take place on Thursday 5th June 2003 and will last all day
the filming will be done in West London. More information will be
provided to the people that are selected. I understand that they are
looking for between 50-100 people for the shoot so if you turn up
you will be in with a good chance of being selected.

One Year On - The 28th May will always be a special day for
fans of Wimbledon (and not just because it's Kylie Minogue's Birthday)
One year ago today most of us thought we had lost our club and wouldn't
have anything to turn to. One year on some of us think that the decision
although wrong was the best thing that could of happened. Last year
there were tears of anger this year there are tears of happiness.
It's a regular theme on this site but a big thanks to everyone that
was initially involved in setting up AFC Wimbledon and everyone that
has been involved in the past year.
Rob Dunford over at SW19's Army has done a brilliant reflection on
the year you can read it by clicking here.

A Season Of AFC - As we approach our first birthday I thought
it would be an idea to capture the atmosphere of AFC over the past

I think sum up the year. So far I have put 50 pictures up but I will
be adding to this and I hope you like my selection.

Another Success At Family Fun Day - On Saturday The Dons Trust organised another brilliant day with the Family Fun Day and the weather was brilliant for us. The turn out for the event was really good and it wasn't just AFC fans present with a number of young kids in other team shirts present.
In one of the highlights of the day the Female Fans beat the Players
Other Half's 3-1 although we didn't get to see if Kevin Coopers other
half (Sophie) could head the ball or what Danny Oakins other half
(Mel) was like at winding the opposition up.
And I ended up winning first prize in the raffle although I had to swap it for 2nd prize as I wasn't allowed to be mascot for the day and therefore I will be a ball sponsor for the day at a game next year.A big thanks to everyone involved in the Events Group including Roger and Linda Dennis who do so much for making sure that these events are so well put on. |

25/05/2003 Family Fun Day - Today is the Family Fun Day and it all gets under way from 11am. We look forward to seeing you at the event. |

Final League Table - As you may have know there were 2 results
outstanding from the league one was the Southall vs Sandhurst match
that was abandoned when Sandhurst were 1-0 up this result has stood.
The other game was Westfield vs Feltham that was due to be one of
the final games of the season but this was called off due to a waterlogged
pitch the league have announced that this will be a 0-0 draw.
A quote was found and printed on W&WW from the westfield manager who was not happy about the 0-0 draw and it was as follows: -
Westfield boss John Cassidy has slammed CCL chiefs for not insisting
the season was played to a finish. Field's final clash at home to
Feltham had to be called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Cassidy was
left steaming when it was agreed, without discussion with him, that
the match should not be rearranged and recorded instead as a goalless
draw. He snapped 'The match should be played. For a senior league
to rule the game out and decide the result is totally out of order.
It questions the credibility of it being a senior league. I'm fuming
and want to know whose decision it was as I was not consulted.' CCL
secretary Alan Constable explained: 'We held a hasty management committee
meeting and agreed a goalless draw which had the approval of both
teams. Mr Cassidy should speak to his club secretary who advised that
this was his club's wish.' Constable insisted that had the outcome
of the match been relevant in promotion or relegation issues then
the league would have demanded it be rescheduled. The league also
agreed that the result of the Southall v Sandhurst match on March
22, abandoned after 79 min's, should stand as a 1-0 win to the visitors
who were ahead when the referee called the match off.

End Of Season Trip - Now that the season is officially over
and before the players go on there summer holidays most of them have
gone on a weekend of culture to Blackpool. I understand that the trip

whatever they do they will have fun. |

Want To Help Over The Summer - Now that the football season
is over it doesn't mean that there is nothing going on over the weekend
and a request has been made for anyone interested in helping out at
various event over the summer. Below is an e-mail that I was sent
and if you would like to help please reply.
Hi Everyone,
As you know, the Trust is planning a number of fund-raising events
during the close season. In some cases, we will need additional help
in organising and staging the events. If you can help at fetes, carnivals,
etc. please contact Roger Dennis - rogdennis1@aol.com
- to offer your services. Dates at which Roger and his team need helpers
are:
25 May - Family Fun Day at Motspur Park Private Members Club, Motspur
Park;
14 June - Mitcham Carnival at Three Kings Piece, Mitcham;
21 June - Wimbledon Village Fair, on the Common (Southside);
12 July - New Malden Carnival, High Street, New Malden.
The Family Fun Day is the event where we will need lots of helpers,
so please volunteer if you can. Help for even a couple of hours would
be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows any voluntary organisations
in the Wimbledon, Kingston and surrounding areas, by all means approach
them to see if they would be interested in having a stall at the Family
Fun Day on 25 May. There would not be a fee in advance, but we would
like a donation on the day depending on how successful they had been.
Please put any interested organisations in touch with Roger.
Roger is also looking for additional members of the Events Group.
Please contact Roger if you can help with the planning and organisation
of events by joining the Events Group. Thanks |

Message From Glyn - There has been a lot of rumours over the
past couple of weeks about the future of Glyn Shimell at AFC Wimbledon
and yesterday he put a message on Weird
& Wonderful World guest book explaining the situation. I have
re-printed the complete message below.
I read with interest and Aideen has got it spot on, I spoke to
Terry when I found out that Rachel was expecting twins and told him
that I probably wouldn't play next season because the priority at
the mo is to pass the knowledge ( 2-3 years left) and to help Rachel
with the kids, at the moment I have to work 9-5 mwttf, do knowledge
runs all day sunday and there's no way that I can be out all day saturday
(and training/playing two nights a week and night school )otherwise
I wont see rachel or the kids all weekend (could be a good thing).
It was a tough decision to play this year and when I had the opportunity
to play for AFC I couldn't turn it down. It has been my best year
of football, apart from the bike crash, the fans , atmosphere, the
lads of all been top drawer. I wish the club every success in the
future, I will always have a soft spot for the club. As for playing
I am just going to train 1 night a week for Bromley and sign on for
emergency cover for their 2 keepers, its only 2 miles from my house
so a least i can get away one night a week. Again thanks for all the
support and well wishes at the last game of the season from those
of you who did know what was happening. I will pop back when the babies
are born and have a pint or two (seven)
Glyn Shimell
Puttingtherecordstraightspace - Thu May 15 14:11:18 2003
I am sure we all wish both Glyn and Rachel the best over the next year and they will always be welcome at AFC Wimbledon. |

More Pre-Season Games Announced - Well we knew about playing
Watford and thought yep that a brilliant one but yesterday AFC Wimbledon
announced some more including Tuesday 5th August - AFC Wimbledon
Vs Luton Town. This will be a brilliant evening and following
on from the Luton Fans getting a home game called off as they didn't
like the other team could well see a number of ex Wimbledon people

Happy 15th Birthday - So where were you 15 years ago today
I know where I was, I was at Wembley to see the 1988 FA Cup Final
and watch "The Greatest Team of All Time get beaten by a bunch of
kickers" or that's how the media wanted it presented.
We know of 1 AFC Wimbledon fan who has a 15th birthday today so happy birthday to that person. |

13/05/2003 Netherne Lose In Cup Final - Netherne tonight lost 3-2 in the cup final in a match that involved one of the strangest moments I have ever seen in football.About 5 minutes into the game a scuffle broke out on the farleigh bench it turned out that there top scorer had been dropped to the bench and a combination of him and his dad didn't like this so went up and started punching the manager the whole farleigh team came over and the goalkeeper was seen throwing punches but remained on the pitch. The ref ended up taking both sides off for about 10 minutes to try and sort it out.On the pitch Netherne never had the lead and were caught out by the quick pace of the number 7 and the finishing of the number 9. The Netherne goals came from Dave Fry and Chris Theodore who was later sent off. Netherne had a chance to level it but a brilliant lob hit the crossbar.
Trigger and the boys can be proud of what they have achieved this
season and I am sure that a number of them we will be seeing a lot
more of next season. |

Ray Merry, Danny Roberts, Sim Johnston, Daniel Couch, Dave Fry, Chris
Theodore and of course they are managed by itmustbedons.com sponsored
Trigger.
Lets turn up and cheer the boys on for what will be the last game of the season. Tooting & Mitcham's ground is about 100 yards from Mitcham Tram stop. I look forward to seeing you there. |

Fun Day at Netherne - Well a fun but wet day was had by everyone
who went to the Netherne Match this afternoon although we lost 4-3
apparently. The reason I say apparently was that I spent the second
half of the game in the bar as it was so wet. It was a relaxed atmosphere
with Nicky English son playing for AFC Wimbledon as well as Dwane
Townsend at centre back who has been playing for Netherne this season.
Netherne team contained Trigger and Sim Johnston as they prepare for
Tuesday's cup final at Tooting and Mitcham.
Netherne took the lead when hand ball was given against Bobby English and the penalty was converted past Ray Merry, Netherne scored a second goal which was very good before Danny Oakins pulled one back for us just before half time.
We started with Joe Sheerin and Matt Everard up front but Joe went
off after 20 minutes and was replaced by Gareth Graham. It wasn't
the last we saw of Joe as rolling subs were in operation and he came
back later.
In the second half Gareth Graham replaced Ray Merry in goal who went
up front and then after Gareth conceded the 4th goal Matt took his
place as you can imagine it was very strange. Hopefully it turned
into a nice earner for Netherne and a big thanks to them for everything
they have done this season in the development of AFC Wimbledon.

Netherne Village Vs AFC Wimbledon Today - Today is a chance
to give thanks to Netherne Village who have been our sort of "Reserve
Team" this year. The game is being played at Netherne's ground which
you can find by clicking here.
Parking near the ground is very difficult so it is suggested that
you either park at Coulsdon South Station and get one of the shuttle
cabs that will be in operation £1 per person per trip and 50% will
go to the ground fund, or get the train. If you are getting the train
they depart East Croydon at 53 minutes past the hour and take 9 minutes
to get to Coulsdon South.
The Wombulance will also be present so a chance to pick up any merchandise that you not have yet.Today will also be a chance to See Netherne in action before there cup final on Tuesday night that has been moved to Tooting & Mitcham due to the large AFC crowd that is expected.

he didn't play on Monday. |

Next Season - Now that we know we have finished 3rd we know
that we cant be put forward for automatic promotion into the Rymans
league the only way we could be in the Rymans League next season is
if we were to be invited, we would then also need the agreement of
the CCL clubs as the CCL holds our registration for what league we
play in.
If we don't go up next season we will be able to enter the FA VASE.
In the FA Vase we would be in the highest league of teams entering
it and the final is normally played at Villa Park but this year due
to two South East Teams being in the final it has been moved to Upton
Park and is being played this Saturday. If we are in this competition
I think it would be safe to say that it would be "Number Two" on our
aims for next season behind winning the CCL.
Just a reminder that on Monday Kris mentioned that there is a possibility
of a pre-season game on the 16th July no details are known as of yet.

Netherne Game Sunday - As you may be aware AFC Wimbledon are
playing a Thank you game at Netherne Village on Sunday afternoon the
game starts at 3:00 but the youngsters will be on display before this.
Entrance is £5 for adults. In terms of getting there the nearest station
is Coulsdon South, it's a long uphill walk from the station so we
are looking a sort of park and ride scheme to raise money for the
stadium fund. I will post more details when know. |
| |
07/05/2003
Fund Raising Events - One fund raising event taking place tonight
with the AFC players at the speedway and £5 from each spectator will
go to the stadium fund. On Friday you can watch the London Broncos
in action at Brentford against top of the table Leeds and £7.50 of
the £15 admission will be donated to the stadium fund if you call
the number on the official
site and quote "AFC Wimbledon" |

Match Report With A Difference - Right we won 5-1 as mentioned
but this match report I want report on the day itself. As I have been
one of the many matchday volunteers this year I needed to be at the
ground for a photo at 10:30 this meant a 9:15 departure so that I
could get to the cafe for a bacon roll. I left the cafe and walked
into Kingsmeadow and although it was last day of the season it felt
like them magical days against Sutton and Chipstead with people already
waiting for the turnstiles to open. The sun was shining and everyone
just looked happy. I walked out onto the pitch and we had our picture
taken in a huge squad type picture.
Then everyone had to do there jobs but I was having the day off as
I was one of the sponsors for the day so I could walk around and chat
with so many friends about the season. Then it was into the presidents
lounge to chat to different people but I kept wandering out to look
at the stadium and see everyone waiting for the game to start. The
Future of AFC were out on the pitch as the youth teams of next season
were showing what they can do and TV crews from various media were
interviewing Kris and others including Tom Watts from BBC London.
Just before the game started Robbie Earle, Dave Beasant, Roger Joseph
and Lawrie Sanchez turned up as well as members of sides from the
60's and 70's only one guest was missing but he would appear later.
The players ran out and Phillo started "WE ARE WIMBLEDON" on the PA
nothing more needed to be said and with us also having a Womble on
the pitch as another team has been stopped from using it it was a
lovely moment.
Just before half time the final guest of the day arrived and the main
stand stood to applauded a person who had only been connected with
us for a year as a player but had made a huge mark on the fans. Kevin
Cooper of Wolves won the WISA Player of the year award and was presented
with the trophy on the pitch when we played Wolves at our last away
game he has always said it was one of the proudest days of his life
as he walked in a chant of "Two Kevin Coopers theirs only Two Kevin
Coopers" went up and it was brilliant.
Half Time saw the parade of heroes onto the pitch and everyone except
Kevin Cooper was introduced to a brilliant reception. As the game
drew to a close with us comfortable winners I hoped that everyone
would stay off the pitch so that we could have a brilliant lap of
honour and how brilliant the fans were not one person even tried to
get on the pitch and therefore the players could really show there
support for this incredible season.
Before the presentations could start we had one small matter to complete
our Kevin Cooper still hadn't scored with his head even though he
came so close in the game today that Phillo actually went that was
close over the PA. So with two of the best Wimbledon goal keepers
in the stands in Dave Beasant and Dickie Guy who should we get to
go in goal yes Ivor Heller!! So out onto the pitch came Ivor, Kevin
and Andy Sullivan to cross the ball so with the game kicking off at
1:00 and it now being about 3:00 we had about 6 hours for this to
be completed before it got dark :) Well to cut a long story short
I think it was attempt number 9 before a Cooper header rolled across
the line and into the back of the net and the stadium fund was £1,200
better off.
It was now presentation time Trigger announced that the Netherne Player
Of The Year was Sim Johnston and this went down really well, first
up for the AFC Awards were the Junior Dons and Roger and Linda took
three Junior Dons onto the pitch and announced that Kevin Cooper had
won the Junior Player of the year, Next up was the Players Player
of the year and this went to Lee Sidwell. Kevin Cooper was then invited
onto the pitch to present the official supporters Player of The Year
and this went to Lee Sidwell. A lap of honour then started and by
the end of it Danny Oakins was down to his pants but everyone had
a brilliant time.
This was just the start of the party and most people stayed until
7:00 when people headed off to the Hand In Hand on Wimbledon Common
and more fun was had by all. This day was so perfect the sun shone
we won a full house of 4,560 thanks to everyone who has made
this dream a reality. :) |

itmustbedons.com Player Of The Year Result - It was a close
run thing and going into the final day the votes between Lee Sidwell
and Kevin Cooper were level, so it may have been Lee's hat trick against
Walton Casuals that turned it his way.
As you may have seen yesterday Lee Sidwell picked up the Club Player
Of The Year and the Players Player Of The Year with Kevin Cooper getting
the Junior Dons Vote. Lee has been superb all year and the only game
he missed was the Hartley Wintney away game that we lost 2-0. Kevin
has also had a brilliant season and 41 goals speaks volumes both cant
wait for next season to start and Kevin promised more goals next season.

It's Third - Last away game of the season and ended up not
a classic but we won and the after match party was a bit special.
We went into the game with Ray Merry returning between the posts and
we knew that if we were to have any chances of getting second we had
to keep winning our first goal came about when Andy Sullivan whipped
in a free kick and Matt Everard was there to head the ball home. This
goal meant Matt had reached double figures for us in the short time
that he had been with us.
The rest of the first half was fairly uneventful and we went in 1
goal up. In the second half we continued to be in control and there
ended up being two main incidents the first was Kevin Coopers 39th
goal of the season when he managed to shoot into a empty net after
heading it round the keeper, at one point it looked like he would
get down and head it across the line but he thought better of it.
The second was the award of a penalty to us.
A mad scramble occurred in the box and it looked like Matt Everard
was trying to carry the ball into the back of the net but the linesman
said that it had come off the defenders arm and therefore we had a
penalty. Kevin Cooper stepped up and the crowd started chanting "Head,
Head" Matt Everard appeared to just be laughing at this and Cooper
hit it low to the keepers left, the keeper dived and managed to push
it out and it fell to Matt who skied it over the bar.
The rest of the game just was played out with us very comfortable
but afterwards as we knew Wallingford had the result they need we
just partied lots of beer was drunk and song sung in the Reading Club
house and as Terry Eames and the boys came in the lovely song of "we're
proud of you rang out". This has been one hell of a season and it's
not over yet bring on the Merton Derby :)
The vote for Man Of The Match is now open and will stay open to Wednesday
Afternoon please click below to vote.

Season Ticket Sales - Remember how everyone said the AFC Wimbledon
support wouldn't last and next season would see our crowds plummet
well on Saturday Season Ticket Forms were circulated at Kingsmeadow
and are due to be sent out to Season Ticket Holders very soon but
as of last night the club had received applications for 300 season
tickets. This is an incredible figure and looks like once again we
will have one of the highest attendance's in non-league football next
season. |
