Dulwich Hamlet Result - Last night we lost 3-0 at Dulwich Hamlet this was another mixed squad performance with a mixture of possible first teamers and reserves on show. Ray Merry Played his second game in 24 hours when he was phoned at work as Tony Smith had broken down on route to the game. Other people that played were Daniel Couch, Steve Gibson, Paul Quinn, Ryan Gray, Gavin Bolger, Leon White, Seb Flavata, Mark Nicholas.

Dulwich were very fast and managed to get round the back of us on several times to convert the goals.

If Anyone Can Concannon Can - Tonight we played Carshalton Athletic who were last years Ryman Division 1 South Champions in Neil Robson Testimonial Match and what a match it was Neil played the first half for Carshalton and then played the last 20 minutes for AFC. Also playing for AFC was Ian Concannon who is a striker who has scored over 100 goals in his last two seasons at our level of football, and tonight he showed what he was all about. He opened the scoring for AFC with a brilliant first time effort past the keeper that was set up by Ally Russell, he hit the ball so hard it hit the back stantion and came out again. Carshalton leveled the scoring with a brilliant strike from 30 yards but AFC were well up for this game.

Our second goal was made and scored by Lee Sidwell when he forced the defender into a backpass he chased the keeper down who fired the ball against lee and then Lee managed to lift it over the keeper and into the back of the net. The 3rd was a Danny Oakins near post header and the 4th was another Concannon goal this time a brilliant header from a Darren Dobinson cross.

This might seem strange but Ian wasn't my man of the match the talk of the evening was the brilliant performance of Ally Russell who has recently come in for a bit of stick tonight he was just outstanding he chased down everything put some brilliant crosses in and had a few shots on goal. This is the ability that we know Ally has and it was brilliant to see him play like it.

Two other players who did really well tonight and have been getting a bit of stick recently have been Andy Sullivan and Lee Sidwell both of these were at there best tonight and it was brilliant to see. Well done guys and to everyone else in the team.

Finally Well Done Neil Robson about 800 people turned up tonight to support his evening and everyone enjoyed themselves Neil had been brilliant both on and off the pitch so it was a well deserved evening. I understand that early tomorrow morning Neil is off on Holiday have a brilliant time Neil it's well deserved.
29/07/2003

Reaction From Bob Dowler To Saturday's Game - I was at the club today and Bob Dowler the father of Milly Dowler came in to pick up a few things. 28/07/2003
Coach To Newport Canceled- Unfortunately the planned coach for supporters that was going to run on Saturday has had to be canceled due to lack of numbers. I hope that people who were planning to go will find other ways to get to the game.
28/07/2003
Lee Passmore Departs - This morning on the weird and wonderful world guestbook Lee Passmore announced that he had left the club he said: -

To all the fans This is a short note to let you all know that I have made the decision to leave AFC Wimbledon this season. This is due to a number of reasons, however it would show a lack of integrity and professionalism for me to discuss them on the web site. I would just like to say many thanks to all the fans at AFC for your encouragement and support over the last season. It has been a privilege to play infront of such a fantastic crowd and I continue to remain astounded by what you have achieved in such a short space of time. I am proud to have been part of the clubs very first season and have really enjoyed the experience. I would also like to wish all the players best of luck for the forthcoming season and will continue to follow the progress of the club as it continues to grow. All the best for the future Lee Passmore (Passey) Passey cyberspace - Mon Jul 28 09:31:15 2003

I would like to say thanks to Lee and wish him all the best for the future.

Lovefootball Phoenix Cup Final - This afternoon on Wimbledon Common extensions (where the trials were) AFC Wimbledon reserves play in the final of the Phoenix Cup this is a contest for teams that have reformed. We were due to play the semi on Saturday but the team we were to play had to pull out so we played Colliers Wood United in a friendly game instead. In the first half we were 1-0 up thanks to a shot from Daniel Couch that was deflected off Ally Russell. In the second half a number of changes were made and we ended up losing 6-1.

More information on the Lovefootball event can be found by clicking here.
26/07/2003
Watford Result - Today we lost 4-1 against a Watford XI. Although it was disappointing that none of our ex players were there for the game it was a good day that raised a lot of money for Milly's Fund. We conceded our first goal after 15 minutes and then Watford scored two quick goals on the half hour mark and this was perhaps a bit against the run of play. After the break Watford got there 4th with about 115 minutes left and a couple of minutes later we got our only goal when Gavin Bolger scored a brilliant goal and the best one of the day.

Just over 2,000 people turned up to watch the game and both teams received a brilliant reception after the game along with the parents and sister of Milly Dowler. In my opinion it was a brilliant day for a very good charity and lets hope that it has raised awareness of both the charity and also the work that we do in the community.
26/07/2003

It's Not Just The Players Who Have Pre Season Training - On Saturday the Golden Goal sellers will be doing our one and only pre-season training session at the AFC Wimbledon Vs Watford game. All profits will be going to the Milly Dowler Fund so please make sure you see one of us sellers and buy a ticket. And don't forget you have all missed being able to moan about the rotten tickets you get over the summer so this is your chance again to complain :)
23/07/2003
Draw Against Leatherhead - Tonight we had a 1-1 draw with Leatherhead and therefore we will share the Maureen Wooldridge Trophy for the next 12 months. We played really well with a number of players putting in good performances. The three channel mentioned have given us between them 70 TV slots to run the advert for free, I don't know when it will be going out but hopefully it will generate even more interest. The Full story can be read by clicking here.
21/07/2003

20/07/2003
This Weeks Action - A busy week this one with games on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. On Monday we are playing Hampton & Richmond away I believe this may be a mainly reserve and trialists but I am not sure. Wednesday night sees us play down at Leatherhead and then on Saturday we play a Watford XI that will be managed by Terry Burton and include Marcus Gayle and Neal Ardley. If you are planning to sit down at this game you should apply for tickets in advance as they have been selling well. Information on getting tickets can be found here.

Reserves Win As Well - On Saturday the reserves played Forest who are based down in Horsham we won 2-0 with goals from Lee Passmore who scored a penalty and Ben Chesters who is one of the new players. 19/07/2003
Victory Over Dorchester Town - This afternoon AFC Wimbledon won 3-0 at Dorchester Town with the first two goals from Joe Sheerin and the third from Danny Oakins. The team details for us were as follows: -

Merry, Wardy, Quinn, Oakins, Everard, Sidwell, Bassey, Bolger, Sheerin, Cooper & Gray

The subs at half time were at half time Angell on for Ward, Sully for Sids and Leon White for Coops and then Frankum on for Bassey on 60 minutes and the final two subs were Dobbinson for Gray & Russell for Sherrin.

Just before the end of the game the ref went down with cramp and had to be replaced this meant that the AFC Kit Man Dennis Lowndes ended up running the line for the last 9 minutes.

18/07/2003
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - At lunchtime today it was announced that following the morning post that we had passed the £1,000,000 shares purchased and therefore the minimum subscription had been reached. This is such an incredible achievement and don't forget in the past two and a half days we have raised £352,000.

Can I say a big well done to Erik and all on the Finance Working Group that believed this could be done to everyone on The Dons Trust and also everyone at AFC Wimbledon, and finally everybody who has purchased shares it doesn't matter if you purchased £22.50 or more every single share helps.
18/07/2003
Saturday's Trip To Dorchester - This Saturday sees us off to Dorchester Town. Dorchesters web site can be found by clicking here. A map of the ground can be found here.
18/07/2003
Kingstonian Game - Wednesday Nights games ended with a 2-0 defeat but it was very hard to judge the performance based on the fact that we made so many substitutions in the second half. Things got so crazy one of the new boys Ryan Gray who started the first half on the left wing and went off at half time came back on for the last 20 minutes or so to play left back.

Both Ryan Gray and Paul Quinn had good games and I am sure once they settle in will bee of real benefit to the team. In the first 20 minutes we were on top of the game and forced the Kingstonian keeper into atleast one brilliant save. But Kingstonians took the lead against the run of play following a mix up in defence. Kingstonians second goal was scored late on in the second half and both goals were scored by Stafford Brown who last year played for Aldershot in there championship campaign.

I have put a few pictures up and these can be seen by clicking here.
17/07/2003
Share Issue Update - At the ground last night a number of posters were put up round the ground this shows that as at Tuesday evening we needed to raise an additional £352,000 to reach the £1 million pounds minimum subscription rate. Wednesday Nights Game - Just a reminder that Wednesday night is Kingstonian's home game and it will be the first time that there trust has been in charge on a match day basis. Remember what it was like for us a year ago when we first started so if things don't go as smoothly as you want don't have a moan at them its a big first game for them to have and lets hope that lots of people turn up so that they get plenty of money to help them out for the season.
15/07/2003
And Then There Were 12 - The number of new players that have been signed is now up to 12 with details of 3 new players over on the Official Site. With still a month to go before the start of the season we could still see some new faces in and these could be for either the first team or reserves.
14/07/2003
Not Long To Go Now - Wednesday evening sees the official end of summer and the start of football when Kingstonians take on AFC Wimbledon at The Fans Stadium. I was at the ground today and its looking nice the pitch looks brilliant and even has a pattern on it and we even tested the floodlights. Wednesday will also be a chance to see a few of the new players, so don't forget to get down early the bars open at 5:30 and the gates at 6:00 with kick off scheduled for 7:45. Tickets for the Watford pre-season game will also be on sale.
13/07/2003
First Game Of The Season? - Still a couple of weeks before the fixtures are announced but there seems to be rumors of two clubs that we may play on the first day of the season. The first club who claimed that we could be playing them was Chessington & Hook but there has since been a rumors and I have had an e-mail saying that we will be at Feltham for the first game of the season this would mean playing on the plastic pitch. As soon as I know what the fixtures are I will post details on here.

Jo Jo Having A Go - Last night (Thursday) at training Roger Joseph was one of the 37 people who were being put through there paces to see if they make the grade for the AFC Wimbledon 2003/04 squad. Roger for people who don't know was a player in the early 90's for Wimbledon FC and was a great favorite of the fans. An interview can be found over at the Official Site with Roger about last nights training. He hopes to be able to play against Kingstonians Football Club on the 16th July. One other player who was also there was Darren Dobbinson who last year played for Raynes Park Vale and is the son of there Manager, Sutton asked him to go to trials with them but he has said he wishes to play for AFC Wimbledon.
03/07/2003

More information can be found on the Official Site.
03/07/2003
FITC News From Merton - As you may be aware over the last couple of days there was a story going round that the Football In The Community Scheme that was previously run by Wimbledon FC would be being taken over by Fulham Football Club. Following a number of e-mail's to Merton Council they have released a statement saying that the schemes will remain with the local clubs namely AFC Wimbledon and Tooting & Mitcham Football Club. The full statement can be read either on the official Site or on the WISA News Section.

Part of the problem is that FITC to get funding must be attached to a 'professional' club to be able to receive funding and therefore this means that other clubs could try and set up schemes in the area.
02/07/2003
FA Vase Draw Announced Soon - The draw for the FA Vase will be announced over the weekend and once it is known I will have details here on the site.

Pre Season Training Starts- Well tonight was the first night of pre-season training and I understand that terry has in the region of 50 new players coming down for trials most of them will end up being released tonight. One player who is rumored to be joining us is Whyteleafe's Fans Player Of the Year Ryan Gray there unofficial site message forum describes him as a Left Back or Left Winger and someone says that AFC fans will like him as he is very much in the Warren Barton or Kevin Cooper (mark 1) type of player.

Lets hope that the players are all ready for pre-season and haven't enjoyed themselves too much over the summer.
