28/02/2003 Couple Of Changes To The Squad - If your saw the squad for Saturday's game either early today on Thursday night a couple of changes have been made to it. Danny Oakins has picked up an injury and Danny Roberts is going to play a full game for Netherne so Dave Towse and Ben Garner have been called into the squad. |

Get The Plastic Out - It's all right not asking for more of
your money but just a reference to Saturday's game at Feltham. Feltham
are one of the few senior clubs in the country who are not allowed
in the FA Cup or promotion due to the fact that they play on a Plastic
Pitch. Anyone who has been watching football for a number of years
may remember plastic pitches in the league at QPR, Luton and Oldham
but it's a number of years since I have seen a game be played on one.
The AFC players have completed a number of training sessions on a
plastic surface and Feltham's home form hasn't been that strong. In
terms of getting to the game it's a case of trains from Clapham Junction
and there are about 4 an hour and takes less than 30 minutes. A map
of the area can be found by clicking here.

Victory Over Chessington United - AFC tonight had a 3-1 victory
over Chessington United. The game was delayed for 30 minutes due to
the traffic problems but once the game did get under way the goals
came from Gavin Bolger, Danny Oakins and Joe Sheerin. In the second
half we apparently took our foot off the gas and coasted to a nice
win but conceded a goal at the end.
Glyn Shimmel missed the game as he was involved in a bike accident
earlier today. The word is that he is OK but may be out for a couple
of weeks.
In the other game tonight Withdean were 4-0 up against Merstham when the game was stopped due to Merstham not having enough players on the pitch, this result will now be announced by the CCL so I have left it off the table for the time being. The Man of The Match vote is now open please click below to vote. |

Disco Fun On Saturday Night - After the game in the afternoon
it was on to the Dons Trust Disco and another fun evening at the game
yesterday were a contingent of St Pauli fans who had made the trip
over for the weekend and they were at the disco as well and they enjoyed
themselves.
A few of the management and players were there and a nice relaxed
atmosphere helped everyone get over the afternoon's disappointment.

Reflection On Saturday's Game - So we have all had a chance
to think back on Saturday's game and the disappointment of the 2-0
defeat that we had. I think it's fair to say that Withdean came along
to get a 1-0 victory and once they scored they were just going to
sit back and try and soak up the pressure.
This plan kicked in after 19 minutes when they were awarded one of
the most clear cut penalties most people have ever seen, Glyn was
defending the West Bank and was wearing a baseball cap to protect
his eyes from the sun a long ball up field caught the defence out
and Glyn came to the edge of the box as the ball was outside the area
he couldn't catch it so as the player went round him he just pulled
the player down. The ref apparently said that as the player was going
away from goal it was only a booking but everyone in the ground was
amazed that Glyn wasn't sent off.
The first half was not one of our best performances although we did have a goal disallowed no one knows what for but the whistle was blown before the ball was aimed at goal.
As we were 1-0 down we were chasing the game but at the start of the
second half we stepped the tempo up and put Withdean under a lot of
pressure but couldn't find a way to level the score. At the time I
thought if we had leveled we would have gone on to win as the players
were well up for it and the crowd was right behind the team.
Withdean had been having a high number of players needing "treatment"
for challenges that players normally just get up from and the atmosphere
on the pitch was getting a bit tense. The next thing a big brawl happened
after we had been awarded a free kick and one of our players reacted,
surprisingly it ended up with a Withdean player being sent off and
we hoped that our man advantage would help. But as much as we tried
we couldn't break down there defence.
Both sides were reduced to 10 men when Sean Daly was sent off for an incident in front of the dugout where a "Clash Of Heads" took place we will have to await to see what the FA say but for a similar incident in our game against Wallingford there player ended up with a 16 week ban lets hope that the ref reports it differently. With the match drawing to a close Withdean caught us on the break and went 2-0 up and the game was over.
As the players left the pitch you could see how disappointed they
were. Once again we had failed to beat one of our rivals for promotion.
It was likely that Withdean would of finished above us in the league
based on the games in hand but lets hope we can put an unbeaten run
together to the end of season and Withdean slip up with having to
play 3 games a week. |

23/02/2003 Ground Collection For York FC - As you may have seen at the ground at half time a collection was organised to collect money to help save York FC. York found out on Friday that they needed to raise £60,000 by Monday to keep them alive. The half time collection yesterday raised £2,156.31 and added to the other money collected round the country has put the amount raised over the weekend at over £50,000.

22/02/2003
Disappointing Defeat - A big crowd at the game today (3,203)
saw Withdean come away with the points with a 2-0 victory. To be honest
the ref had a very poor game today from the moment he didn't send
Glyn Shimmel off in one of the most blatant pulling down of a player
most people had ever seen, Withdean scored the penalty through to
the strange bookings that he made when players were running with the
ball. Withdean also seemed to spend most of the time rolling on the
floor complaining but scored there second goal well.
Both sides had a player sent off, Sean Daly for us for an alleged
headbutt, and one of there players following a mass brawl.
Full report on Sunday but I am off to the "I Love My Club" Disco because I still do :)The Man Of The Match vote is open and please click below to vote. |

Tony Readings Update - If you haven't seen the message board
today a message has been posted about North Shore United's first victory
of the season.
An update on Tony Readings. Played against Napier City (good nz side)
and beat them 7-2!!! Tony was strong at the back and organized the
back 3 well. Good performance all round and lots of chat. Davis Haule
(also of North Shore) knocked in 6 v good goals for the first win
of the season. I spoke to Tony after the match and he was regailing
me with the story of the first AFC game and how much it meant to himself
and the lads, he still gets goosebumps now!!! Hopefully Tony and Davis
will eventuate into the Kingz squad to give us two quality players
with a bit of guts. To recap, a good game by the two Wombles that
are getting used to the heat very quickly!

15/02/2003 Hat Trick Hero Cooper - On one of the worst pitches we have played on this season we put in one of our most positive displays. We started with Matt Everard in defence and the return of Joe Sheerin and the players took to the field in the new White kit (this goes on sale on Friday). In the first half we had a number of chances but anything that went along at ground level got stuck in the mud and anything else seemed to shoot over the bar, but at half time we could well have been about 3 or 4 goals up.
It only took about 5 minutes of the second half before we took the
lead and it was Kevin Cooper who scored to put us 1 up. The Dons continued
to attack and had more chances to score but couldn't convert them
and it looked like this was going to be our most convincing 1-0 victory
as Chessington had very few chances to have shoots on target.
With 5 minutes to go Kevin got his second when he slotted home from
very close range. With the game all but over AFC were awarded a penalty
and only one player was going to take it Kevin stepped up and tried
to hit it low but it was saved the ball came out and Lee Sidwell fired
it home but the ref said that the keeper had moved and it was to be
retaken, this time Kevin made no mistake and put it low to the keepers
left as Chessington kicked off the ref blew the whistle and we had
a 3-0 victory.
The Man of The Match is now open please click below to vote. |

Withdean Game Off Again - Withdean's game tonight has apparently
been called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Withdean already had a
major problem with a fixture backlog and it now looks like they could
well be playing three games a week for a number of weeks up to the
end of the season. They also have a League Cup game to be played at
the weekend so will fall another game behind most teams at the weekend.

12/02/2003 Tuesday Night Results and Wednesday Action - Only one match ended up being played last night with the score Reading Town 5 Chessington & Hook 2. 09/02/2003
Back On Track After 5-0 Victory - Funny day yesterday what
started with the squad announcement in the back bar when number 3
was announced as Danny Roberts as you know it was only a couple of
weeks ago that Danny had been released but with Simon Bassey and Sean
Daly unavailable through injury and suspension we had to look to the
reserves Dave Towse picked up an injury in the Netherne Cup game and
wasn't sure if he would be able to last the full game so Terry contacted
Danny who had been playing for Netherne and as we still have him registered
it was just a case of Danny turning up.
So with Danny Roberts at left back and new signing Gareth Graham with his Neil Lennon styled dyed hair the game got under way with AFC defending the west bank. The Dons started straight on the attack but with just 9 minutes gone we had to make a change as Gareth Graham's debut was cut short with injury Noel Frankum came on for him.
On 15 minute we took the lead when Lee Sidwell scored his first goal
of the afternoon. On 24 minutes Lee Sidwell was once again involved
when he tried to keep the ball in play infront of the dugout. After
keeping the ball in he couldn't stop him momentum and he crashed into
the dugout it looked like he was out cold and there was concern on
the bench but Lee just jumped up and continued playing.
Sully was having a good game with Danny Roberts behind him and he
had a couple of good chances to put us further infront the best chance
coming after he was one on one with the keeper but put the ball wide.
Just before this there had been a brilliant effort following a crossfield
ball that Sully just volleyed and just went over it would have been
a goal of the season candidate had it gone in.
In the final minute of the first half Glyn Shimmel who it was announced is going to be the father of Twins was called into action Westfield player got past the defenders and was in a one on one situation with Glyn he shot the ball deflected against Glyn and seemed to be headed against towards the goal but just went wide of the goal so we went in at half time at 1-0 up.At the start of the second half Westfield seemed to be on a stop Sully mission and a couple of bad tackles went in on him and could well have seen atleast 1 Westfield player depart the game but the ref either spoke to the players or booked them.
Lee Sidwell scored his second and our second of the game when he headed
home on 64 minutes. This seemed to lift the crowd and the players
and we started playing some really nice controlled football. Five
minutes later Kevin Cooper got on the scoresheet to make sure that
there was no way that Westfield could comeback. We were now in the
scoring groove and Gavin Boulger scored our 4th of the afternoon.
It was very funny as they lined up for the new kick off and Phillo
announced"Scorer of the 4th AFC Goal was Kevin Cooper" Coops looked
across from the centre circle shaking his head and we all looked at
Phillo and said it was Gav. Phillo corrected himself to laughter from
the West Bank.
Terry Eames made a couple of changes and bought on Andrew Petty and with 10 minutes he had given us another 5-0 scoreline.
This was a very convincing display and after the disappointment of
the last few weeks shows what the club means to everyone. The next
team to visit Kingsmeadow is Withdean and it's safe to say that it
will be a big game against them.
The Man Of The Match vote is now open and you can vote by clicking below. |

Cherry Red Books Trophy - As you may have seen on the official
site we have withdrawn from the Cherry Red Books Trophy. My understanding
is as follows: -
Waltham Abbey have no floodlights and therefore needed the game played
on a Saturday. Due to the logistics that are involved in one of our
Saturday home games it is very difficult to cancel them. Had it been
a home game it may have been easier to play the match. Last weeks
Non-League Paper had us playing the game yesterday and in today's
edition it says our game yesterday at Waltham Abbey was postponed.
Although disappointing to have to withdraw from the competition we
entered it when we thought we would have less games (be in Ryman 2)
and therefore it's a bit difficult to arrange the games.

Bradford Fan Raises £750 - At half time yesterday the Bradford
fan who walked from Selhurst Park to Kingsmeadow did a walk round
the ground collecting for there "Player Loan Fund" he had hoped to
raise in total about £500 for the walk but from the collection alone
he got £755 and I believed he got about another £500 pledged so he
did really well. Well done to everyone who chucked some money in.

Bradford Fan Walking From Selhurst To K's - Yes you have read
that right a Bradford fan is tomorrow walking from Selhurst Park to
Kingsmeadow to watch the AFC Wimbledon game Vs Westfield rather than
Bradford's away game. He will be collecting money for Bradford City's
Trust to enable the club to take some players on loan. If you see

Matt Everard On Way? - On Wednesday evening reports started
to appear that Matt Everard could well be on the verge of joining
AFC Wimbledon. Big Geoff the Hartley manager says that Matt is one
of the best defenders in the league and although he has missed most
of this season through an injury he will be an asset to the team.
Under non-league rules a player who is not under contract has to give
his team 7 days notice that he is leaving so if Matt has done this
it will be a week before AFC can talk to him about possibly joining
us. I will keep you informed of how things progress.

Wallingford Confirm No Promotion For Them - As suggested last
week AFC Wallingford have confirmed that they have withdrawn there
application for promotion to the Rymans 1 should they win the league.
The reason for this is due to the fact that they wont have the ground
improvements completed before the Rymans inspection. Although this
could be potential good news for us I don't think anyone cannot feel
sorry for AFC Wallingford if for the second year running they win
the league and are denied promotion. More information can be found
on there site over at http://www.afcwallingford.co.uk.
