New Improved AFC Wimbledon Update Service - As some of you
will be aware I have been providing a SMS service of updates to people
that haven't had access to the net but have a mobile phone on match
days and I try to provide line up, scores half times and full time
scores. I have been doing this by individually texting people problem
with this is that with over 30 people to text some people get the
message well after we have scored and even miss out on a another goal.
I have found a way that I can do this on a bulk basis and I am now
prepared to add extra people to the service. The only problem with
it is that once you e-mail me to say you want to be part of it I will
e-mail you asking that you join a Website yourwap.com via a link I
supply.
This will mean that I will be able to add you to a group and then
by sending one message it will go out to all that have requested it.
If you currently receive updates I will be contacting you. I hope
this will result in a better and quicker update service if you would
like to be added to the service please e-mail me on sms@itmustbedons.com.

It's My Birthday - Another year older today and I now reach
32 years of age. Just want to say a big thank you to every one who
signed the card that was organised for me so a big thanks to Jackie
Harvey and Linda Dennis who I think were the main people behind it.
Getting a card from the players was a lovely surprise and although
today is my birthday I'm claiming it as a birthday weekend and 3 points
yesterday was the best present. |

Rain Or Shine A Five Star Performance - OK so no rain but never
let anything like that get in the way of a good headline :) - So the
possibility of a player going through the whole season playing every
game has finished now that Sim Johnston didn't play today, Sim was
down playing for Nethern who drew 0-0. Also missing was Andy Sullivan
who may be away on Holiday in Italy at the moment.
A healthy crowd of 1,098 officially although a number of people thought
it was higher made the trip down to Farnborough Town's ground for
the match against Frimley Green. Right from the start we attacked
well and on 12 minutes Joe Sheerin challenged the keeper for a ball
in the air but a free kick was awarded against him. Then on 23 minutes
the moment most AFC Wimbledon fans had been waiting for when Joe Sheerin
broke into the box his first shot rebounded off the keeper and came
back to him and he slotted the ball home to put us 1-0 up. The relief
on Joe's and the fans faces was brilliant at first Joe had a look
of "Yes I've done it" then he celebrated with the fans and then ran
the full length of the pitch and so that all his team mates could
celebrate with him it was a great moment and gave the team a real
lift.
We continued to push forward and 5 minutes later Neal Robson had a
shot from the edge of the box that went past the keeper we were now
looking really good. We were storming down both wings with Lee Sidwell
on the right and Sean Marshall on the left and then with almost the
last kick of the half we had a corner the ball was played in and Danny
Oakins steamed in at the back post to put the ball over the line for
a 3-0 half time lead.
5 minutes into the half another corner taken by Neil Robson was once again met by Danny Oakins but his effort was blocked on the line but once again came back to Danny and he prodded it over the line we were now 4-0 up. The show wasn't over yet as Joe Sheerin managed to get his second goal of the day to put us 5-0 up, at that point Joe was replaced by Ali Russell and he left to a brilliant reception. We had a brilliant chance to make it 6-0 but Kevin Coopers header from a couple of yards out hit the inside of the post and came back to the keeper. That was the end of the scoring and a brilliant 5-0 end to a good day. Joe was well happy after the game and everyone was congratulating him after all his hard work it came off today. If you wish to vote for the Man Of The match please click below. |

23/09/2002 Junior Dons Trust Launch - Saturday saw the Launch of the Junior Dons Trust and it was a brilliant day about 50 juniors joined the trust as well as 60 who joined the matchday academy. The Youngsters got a chance to learn skills with current players and coaching staff and then some of them were selected for a penalty shoot out with Andy Bell in goal. Well done to everyone involved and hope the kids had a good day. |
|
22/09/2002 Brimsdown, North Greenford And Junior Dons Trust Photos - Before I get to the Photo's the Match report from Saturday's game.
Right from the start North Greenford came straight at us and in the
second minute they broke down our right hand side the player cut in
and from just inside the box shot past Glyn who (from my view) had
left two much of the goal unguarded once again we had started slowly.
We got going and after we won a corner the ball was headed home after
Sim Johnston "Rose like a Phoenix (C) Wimbledon Web Cast Team 18/9/2002"
to head the ball home but before the half time break could come North
Greenford put the ball into an empty net when the defenders failed
to pick up a player at the back post.
Early in the second half North Greenford increased there lead to 3-1
and it looked like it was game over but we seemed to step it up a
gear and we were having the best of the chances. Then North Greenford
were reduced to 10 men when one of there players got involved in an
off the ball incident, it was now a case of could we make the extra
man advantage play. We continued to push forward and Keith Ward pulled
it back to 2-3 when he connected with an overhead kick in a crowded
box. We still streamed forward and then it was another defenders turn
to get on the score sheet and it was Danny "Are You Oakins, Are You
Oakins, Danny" Oakins who pulled the score level and then there was
only one team that was going to win Ali Russell came on for Kevin
Cooper and he scored his first league goal to put us 4-3 up with just
5 minutes remaining. Kingsmeadow erupted and Ali ran to the West
Bank and was mobbed by the fans.
As the game looked like about 5 minutes injury time was about to be
played the final whistle went and the Dons had pulled back 2 goal
deficits twice in a week. As an AFCW fan this was not the week to
be away in two games we have seen 13 goals, 10 penalties (9 scored)
and two sending offs. The webcast was yet again on top form and in
the photo's of the game you can see "The Dream Team" in action, Mikey
T, Marc Jones & Matt Couper.

19/09/2002
Correction On First Goal - It would appear that while doing
the update at 01:30 this morning I may have made a mistake on our
first goalscorer instead of Sean Marshall who I gave it to it was
Ali Russell who headed the ball past the keeper. |
|
19/09/2002 Who Needs The Champions League - So Wednesday was day 2 of Match week 1 in champions League speak but search round Europe and you wont find a more enjoyable game than the "London Senior Cup Preliminary Round" match at Kingsmeadow between AFC Wimbledon and Brimsdown Rovers.
Most AFC fans went into this game expecting a walk over but Brimsdown
were out to cause an upset and after 16 minutes they took the lead
when a bad back header fell short of Glyn Shimell and was put away.
Things were to get worse when Brimsdown broke away in the second half
and scored the best goal of the match, it turns out that Danny Roberts
was booked for the foul in the build up to the goal when the ref waved
play on but from my view I thought he could have well gone off for
it.
As it looked like we could be going out of the London Senior Cup we got back in when Sean Marshall scored with a header but soon after we looked in trouble when Danny Roberts was in trouble for a sliding tackle, the ref showed him his second yellow card and he was off we were down to 10 men and needed another goal. We started to play some of our best football of the match and then in the last minute of normal time Keith Ward was there at a corner to level the scores and send the game into extra time.Extra time was just as eventful as Brimsdown took the lead again in the first half of extra time and once again we were forced to battle back and with minutes remaining we scrambled the ball over the line to make it 3-3. In the remaining minutes we had clear cut chances but couldn't find the net so penalties were in store.
Brimsdown took the first and Glyn saved it then the remaining 9 were
scored our score's in order were Passmore, Cooper, Gallimore, Oakins
& Russell. Ali Russell penalty was extra special as he had a chance
in normal time to finish the game but somehow put the ball wide.

|
14/09/2002 Victory Over Reading Town - First of all apologies about the audio commentary that didn't work this afternoon, this was due to a technical problem with a laptop and should be sorted by Wednesday evening for the London Senior Cup game with Brimsdown Rovers. As you may have seen in the team line up on the official site we had two new players in Ali Russell and Sean Marshall on the bench. Kevin Cooper returned after his hamstring injury but apart from that it was the normal starting line up.
The game on a whole was a strange one we defended the covered end
in the first half and although we had the better of the play and the
better chances we didn't seem to have that killer finish that we looked
like needing but then on 23 minutes Joe Sheerin broke down the line
cut into the box and then squared it to an unmarked Andy Sullivan
who fired home to put us 1-0 up this remained the score until half
time.
The second half seemed to run along similar line to the first half
but with the fear that out of nothing would come a reading equaliser.
Then with about 15 minutes left Terry Eames made a double substitution
with Andy Sullivan and Kevin Cooper being replaced by Ali Russell
and Sean Marshall straight away they were both into the games and
both had good efforts all of a sudden the momentum had swung and it
looked like we would get atleast one more goal then the ball was played
across the goal just behind Joe Sheerin for Sean Marshall to place
across the keeper and into the back of the net for a goal on his debut
this meant the points were safe as the game came to a close with us
winning 2-0.
Looking at results elsewhere everyone above us dropped points including Ash United who failed to win for the first time this season, we are now up to 6th in the table. The Man Of The Match vote is now open and if you wish to vote please click below. |

14/09/2002 **** Live Audio Matchday Commentary **** - Today AFC Wimbledon tries to move into the multi media age with live audio commentary to quote one of your hosts Chris Phillips of Kiss 100 -
On Saturday we are going to attempt a live Internet broadcast
from the Reading Town game at K's!!
So, if you're a far off or simply on-line Womble check back here (wisa chat)
in footy chat from around 1pm for the link and help give some
feedback to let us know if you can hear it etc.
There'll be bugger all to listen to until k.o and nowt at half
time but m'self and Matt Couper will attempt to keep you amused
and informed from the PA box as the action unfolds!
Expect a tongue-in-cheek 90 minutes of madness and hopefully the
sound of two blokes going mental as we stick goal 6 in! I'll
have to interweave my PA duties whilst doing it so it might be a
tad shoddy ;-)
Of course it's subject to technical provisions so NOT PROMISING
anything but really hope we can do it.
I will also post the link in the text updates. |

Defeat At Withdean & Man Of The Match Vote - A 2-0 defeat against
Withdean 2000 on Saturday. The day started with the supporters coach
breaking down at Tesco's express in south Wimbledon and a 1.5 hour
delay to our journey but thanks to Withdean who put the game back
about 10 minutes we got to the game in time.
As mentioned Kevin Cooper missed the game due to a hamstring injury
with Simon Bassey coming into the line up. Joe Sherrin played the
lone striker role in a 4-5-1 formation and the first half was very
even. Withdean are a very organised side and both teams had a few
good chances in the first half but neither team could take the lead.
All of a sudden in the second half a mistake allowed Withdean to break away and they went 1-0 up. Soon after this they also won a penalty this was hit low to Glyn Shimmel left and he got down to save it. We were always going to be up against it with only one striker and Withdean were awarded a second penalty but this time they put it away for a 2-0 lead. This was the result of the game.
In the evening a number of the players went out and they were very
disappointed with the result and the performance as a whole. As a
number of them said we have been a bit unlucky with injuries and with
Cooper out at the moment we lost our main striking option, cooper
should be back next week and that can hopefully give us that extra
edge.
The Man Of The Match Vote is now open and if you wish to vote please click below. |

0-0 Draw That Ends In Chaos - So our first 0-0 in the division
that never has 0-0 games but managed two tonight (Chessington United
Vs Merstham being the other) but before I get into the game just a
quick note about the food fest that was put on for us. I arrived about
an hour before kick off and there must have been a good 100 people
waiting to be served curry and the word was it was first class.
Only one change in the line up Dave Towse came in for Danny Roberts
who was rested and said that he had been a below his best over the
past few games. About 1000 fans made the trip to Chalfont St Peters
for the game which was played on a very hard and bumpy pitch. Right
from the start challenges were going in from both teams but the referee
seemed to only punish our players. A couple of our players were booked
Joe Sheerin for kicking the ball away and another player who I cant
remember.
Everytime there was a bit of a scuffle and this happened on a number
of occasions he seemed to either only talk to our player or book our
player and award the free kick to them. There were a few chance in
the game but Southall defended very well so were hard to break down.
In the closing moment all hell went off and a big punch up happened
in the box involving Trigger now once again it was the Dons player
pulled aside rather than Number 16 for Southall and by all accounts
the ref showed the "RED Card" but ma have then changed his mind as
Trigger remained on the pitch the ref then showed he didn't fancy
it any more and blew the full time whistle a good 5 minutes early.
None of the Fans (AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe) could understand why
no one had been sent off.

New Stats Service - I have been working on producing a new
Stats service and I am pleased to say it can now go live. At present
I have had to put it on a separate page as I need to tweak it a bit
but all the information is there.
The Home and Away table and the averages
compare Southall's "Home" record against AFC Wimbledon's "Away" record
the form guide shows the last six games played so at the moment is
the same as the overall table and the graph shows the league position
after each game played.

Bookies Take A Bashing - You may remember last week that William
Hills were taking over what game would get the highest attendance
us Vs Cove or the game at Selhurst Park well there was only going
to be one winner in this and unfortunately Mr Bill Hills priced it
up wrong and on Friday night they had AFC as 11/10 2nd favorites.
After a bit of detective work I have managed to get the following
out of William Hills about the bet.
It was pretty much one-way traffic. We went 5/6 take your pick
on Saturday morning before AFC became 8/11 favorites by around midday.
The book closed at about 12.30. It was a very successful novelty bet
in terms of creating interest, but punters were the winners.
Although they wont say how much they lost on the day the word is that it was a fair amount, hey never mind :) |

01/09/2002 Victory Over Hartley Wintney - Yesterday saw us play Hartley Wintney it what turned out to be a game that had some strange incidents. The Dons made one change with new keeper Glyn Shimmel replacing Andy Bell. Glyn had played against us for Bromley in our pre-season campaign.Within the first couple of minutes the Dons should have gone 1 up when Kevin Cooper ran down the line and cut the ball into Joe Sherrin who's effort crossed the line but was then clawed back by the keeper. I was directly behind the goal and the ball was a good yard over the line but the ref and linesman waved play on so the score remained at 0-0.
Then on 20 minutes I can only say that the strangest incident that
I have ever seen at football took place. The dons had a corner and
normally Andy Sullivan would take it but Kevin Cooper played a quick
short corner to Lee Sidwell who chipped it into the box as it came
over the defender caught the ball, the referee blew his whistle at
this point I thought that one of there players had kicked the ball
way from the corner to time waste and the referee was going to book
the player but to the shock of everyone he pointed to the spot. Kevin
Cooper stepped up for the penalty and hit low to the keepers left
but the keeper saved it to be honest I think most people thought this
was a fair result.
The Dons had a number of chances but just couldn't convert them but the team were playing well. We took the lead on 37 minutes when Kevin Cooper made up for his penalty miss and scored his 5th league goal of the season. So we went in at half time 1-0 up and all was looking good.In the first half the Dons has attacked the covered end so most people changed round at half time so they could be at the end the Dons goals would go in but I stayed at the covered end and got a good chance to watch Glyn Shimmel in action and as early as the second half he was called into action and made a big save to keep up 1-0 up.
10 minutes into the half we went 2-0 up when Neil Robson put us 2-0
up. Although we had been 2-0 up at Ash we were looking really good
here but the best was still to come. After 20 minutes of the second
half Sim Johnston picked up the ball in his own half and ran towards
the half way line he then continued then from a good 35 yards he smacked
the ball we thought never mind but all of a sudden it was like the
ball was being radio controlled it then looked like it was just going
wide but then dipped over the keeper and smashed into the back of
the net. The place exploded with the whole of the AFC bench on the
pitch. We were now 3-0 up and the points were in the bag. This now
meant that Tony readings could come on for his first appearance since
the Sandhurst game, he had a huge bandage on his head but it was nice
for him to have a run out.
Hartley Wintney managed to get a consolation when a good leaping header
beat Glyn to make it 3-1. During the second half Hartley Wintney had
a player taken off injured on the stretcher, at first it was feared
that he had a broken ankle but it now appears that he has damaged
ankle ligaments hope he is OK and back soon.
So full time and another three points before the "Game" Match report
signs off can I just say a big thanks to the Wolves Fans and Clydebank
fan as well as the two guys over from Hungry to see AFC Wimbledon
play.
So 5pm comes and off to the bar we go for a few drinks and Karaoke
had been set up it all started a bit slow but it all started going
when Kris Stewart chairman of AFC Wimbledon did his classic Meatloaf
"Bat Of Hell" in the bar were the whole of the Hartley Wintney squad
and management and all they could do was turn to people and say "That's
your chairman isn't it" next up was Kevin Cooper and the players who
were selected for "Coops Up side your head" that had about 10 of us
on the floor doing the movements. Before the evening closed Kris was
about to do "True" but the challenged was laid down and Kris wasn't
allowed to sign before the chairman of Hartley Wintney did a turn
and oh how he did one. They seemed to enjoy it as much as us, and
I think a challenge has been laid down for when we go down to Hartley.
