Travel To Viking Greenford - Just a reminder that the game on Sunday is being played at Hayes FC ground in Middlesex. Trains depart from Paddington station and you get off at Hayes and Harlington station the journey is only about 15 minutes and trains are every 30 minutes. A map to the ground can be found over at the official site

Saturday Night Is Comedy Night - Just a reminder that Saturday night is Comedy Night down at Wimbledon Theater when The Dons Trust "Stand Up For The Dons" night takes place. Tickets are still available from the box office and they can be contacted on 020 8540 0362 don't forget that all profits go to the Stadium fund. As well as a very funny comedy night there will also be an auction with some top stuff up for auction including (I believe) an AFC Signed shirt, an England 2002 World Cup signed shirt and lots of other goodies so don't forget your Cheque books.

Progression In League Cup But another Dismissal - AFC Wimbledon won 2-1 against Bedfont in the London Senior Cup on Wednesday night. On a wet miserable night 1,152 people turned up at Kingsmeaddow to see the Dons score goals from Keith Ward and Kevin Cooper put us into the next round.

With 5 subs allowed to be named the Dons started with Ray Merry in goal and Glyn Shimell on the bench. The Dons started well and Joe Sheerin had a number of chances but the ball seemed to just slip away from him in the wet conditions. The Dons took the lead when Keith Ward headed home from about 8 yards. Just before half time Bedfont pulled level when from a corner the ball seemed to cannon against a Dons defender leg and Bedfont scored from close range. We also had two first's at an AFC game this season when we had a 4th official and he then held up a board with the amount of injury time on it, this was shown as 5 minutes.

We took the lead again early on in the second half when a Kevin Cooper shot that looked like it was going in was deflected past the Bedfont keeper.

The game seemed to be coming to an end but Danny Oakins was sent off after being booked for shirt pulling then got booked a second time when he kicked out after a foul on him. Bedfont were also reduced to 10 men when they teamed up to foul Lee Sidwell and a couple of nasty challenges went in on him.

Glyn Shimell came on in the second half but it wasn't clear if Ray had picked up an injury. Another 5 minutes injury time was shown but in the end the whistle went for the end of the match and the dons were through.

Raynes Park Kick Off Time - The Boxing Day Derby against Raynes Park Vale kick off time has now been set at 13:00. The club were hoping for a 15:00 kick off but in the CCL bank holiday games have to start by 12:00 so getting a 13:00 kick off was a bit of a victory for us now all we need is a victory on the pitch.

On the official site are details of how to get tickets for this game.

Comments About Saturday's Train Service - Roger Dennis has been in contact with John the Guard on Saturday's heritage railway service and received the following e-mail back: -

Many Thanks to you and your crew for assistance. Your lads (and lassies) were as good as gold and a credit to the team. I checked Cholsey Station today and there was not a can in sight, your litter pickers did a grand job, much better than a normal running day.
Our crew thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and turned the train around in times that surprised even the engine drivers. Pity about the weather and the bit of trouble at the ground, I will be ensuring that only the best is heard about AFC Wimbledon at this end.
Good luck for the rest of the season and we hope our paths will cross again.

Saturdays Photos - I have just put up the photo's from Saturday including the ones from the train Journey on the heritage train line. They can be viewed here
25/11/2002
Match Report - OK only a small match report from the weekend because to be honest I didn't concentrate on much of the second half.

We kicked off and attacked the end that most of our fans were behind and right from the off we were pushing forward. We had a number of good chances from Cooper and Sheerin but we couldn't make the breakthrough. Wallingford took the lead when their striker Andy Shildrick slotted home from close range after Glyn Shimell appeared to not fully gather the ball.

Even at 1-0 down we continued to push forward but the game changed when the ref sent off Joe Sheerin for foul and abusive language. At 1-0 down and down to 10 men it was going to be tough to get back into it. Wallingford were 2-0 up at half time thanks to a nice overhead kick. They went 3-0 up in the second half and their keeper had a brilliant game we had chances cleared off the line, but overall a disappointing day.

Golden Goal Drama - Bit of Drama on Saturday with the Golden Goals when Southall line up included number 16 over to Roger for the story.

"The organisers of the Golden Goal competition, Roger and Linda Dennis, had some quick thinking to do on 16 November when Southall's first two goals were scored by a player wearing the number 16 shirt. They only produce tickets for players numbered up to 11. (Although there is also a ticket covering substitutes, the goal scorer - Donal O'Sullivan - had started the game).

A check on the team sheet showed that O'Sullivan was listed where the number 11 should be. Apparently he wore number 16 because the number 11 shirt is too small for him. Therefore, the £100.00 Golden Goal ticket was declared to be player 11, minute 19 and the £25.00 second goal was player 11, minute 32. The £100.00 prize was claimed on the day by Peter Cork, but not the Peter Cork who is a Director of another football club!

After 11 games, sales of Golden Goal tickets have raised over £4,300 for the Dons Trust Stadium Fund and are on course to reach Roger's start of season target of £10,000."

On Wednesday nigh we will once again be selling just over 425 Golden Goal tickets so get them early to be in with a chance of winning the prizes.

Disappointment But More Important Games To Come - A 5-1 defeat on Saturday against middle of the table Southall but things could of been different if a Lee Passmore penalty had been converted. In my opinion of the four competitions we have entered this year this is the least important of them.

Terry Eames made a number of changes and although he planned to go and watch AFC Wallingford play Chessington and Hook he sent Glyn Shimell along instead so he got to see this display.

It's difficult to do a match report because it was a very disappointing performance. We had very few chances within the game and our only goal came from Chris Theodore but as we were already 3-0 down it was going to be an uphill struggle. With the score at 3-1 we were awarded a penalty and Lee Passmore stepped up and hit it to the keepers right but it hit the post and rebounded back into play and was cleared. The atmosphere in the ground dropped and Southall scored two quick goals including the 3rd and 4th for one player. So Southall go on in the cup and we can think about our important League games that face us this week.

Game Off - As you will be aware tonight's game was off due to a water logged pitch. Our starting line up was likely to see a number of changes as a numbered of players were injured and any plans to use some of the squad players that play down at Netherne were ruled out when they played in Nethernes team for their Cherry Red Books Trophy match. The full list of players that were in tonight's squad can be found on the official site.
13/11/2002
Midweek Match Service - Before I get into tonight's proposed action there was 1 game in the CCL last night when Godalming & Guildford drew 2-2 at home to Southall.

Tonight we try and play our Cherry Red Books Trophy against Ditton that was called off the other week. With a lot of rain falling over the last few days the game could be in doubt but the club will text the 1200 people who signed up for the SMS service and if there is news before 5:00 I will post information on the message board.

The game is being played at Corinthian Casuals ground in Tolworth trains take 11 minutes to Tolworth and it's about 0.5 miles from the station. The text updates will be available to view by clicking here
12/11/2002
Spying Mission Put On Hold - Tonight I was planning a trip down to Walton Casual to watch them play against the League leaders AFC Wallingford but with all the heavy rain this game was called off this afternoon.

Both us and AFC Wallingford are in Cup action at the weekend and are then due to be in midweek league action with us against high flying Feltham and AFC Wallingford down at our friends from Sandhurst prior to our big game the following Saturday.
11/11/2002
Cup Week - This week we take a break from League action as we play in both the Cherry Reds Book Trophy (on Wednesday against Ditton) and then the second round of the Combined Counties Premier Cup (Southall). On Wednesday we could also see a number of changes to the normal starting line up and even a run out for our new player Luke Milner.

With the following week seeing games against Feltham and then AFC Wallingford it would be nice to rest a couple of players for the big league games.

Merstham Match Report - After the midweek victory over Cove that moved us up to 2nd place in the league we had a chance to consolidate this position as none of Wallingford, Withdean or Ash were in league action on Saturday. Saturday's game saw the return of Sim Johnston to starting line up as Danny Oakins picked up an injury.

The game was delayed for 15 minutes as what turned out to be our second highest away attendance of the season 1,578 made the trip to Merstham once again you couldn't fault the organisation of our hosts and in the first 20 minutes it looked like we were going to struggle in testing conditions, but Glyn Shimell pulled off a couple of nice saves to keep the score at 0-0. It was all Merstham and as ever our wing play was first class with Sully and Sidwell causing the problems.

AFC's first goal came from Kevin Cooper when he converted from close range. This seamed to give the players confidence and Andy Sullivan converted a lovely second with a delicate chip over the keeper to wrap up the points. In the second half it seemed a bit flat both on and off the pitch and once again Glyn pulled off some good saves. And we had some good chances the only disappointing thing was Ali Russell leaving the pitch with an injury and going straight to the dressing room.

Sorry it's not the best match report but I got to the ground just before 3:00 and therefore didn't have the best of views.
10/11/2002
Travel To Wallingford - OK neither of this is "Confirmed" at present but I understand that there will be a coach service to Wallingford with departure from Wimbledon. I believe that the price will be between £10-£15 but this is to be confirmed. As soon as I have more information I will post it on here but if you want to e-mail me with you name number of people going and a contact number I will pass your details on to the travel department of AFC Wimbledon (I think I am part of that) Travel@itmustbedons.com.

If you don't like coach travel and wish to go by train we could be about to announce a one off "Football Special" rather than hiring a train we are hiring a "Train Line" keep an eye on the site for more information but it will be brilliant.

Under 9's at Merstham - On Saturday the Under 9's player there second game and came away with a brilliant 8-2 victory. When you consider that the teams we play against have been going for years and play in leagues it's amazing what has happened. More under 9's games will be organised and the squad is picked via the Saturday Matchday Academy so if you think you have a child (or are under 9) who could play don't forget to sign up for the Matchday Academy.

Bonfire Night Cracker - A trip back to Farnborough this time but this time to the suburbs of Cove and a lovely evening it was. We started the evening by visiting the Thatched Cottage public house and they weren't expecting us when an announcement is made over the PA system in the pub for a car to be moved so more beer can be delivered you have to laugh.

One change was made to the line up with Lee Passmore being replaced by Keith Ward. Wardy played in midfield. From early on you could see that Cove would struggle after 15 minutes the Dons were awarded a freekick and as it was played into the box Wardy knocked it down to an unmarked Ali Russell who was about a yard out and he hit the ball into the back of the net. The Dons made it two nil on the half hour mark as Kevin Cooper scored. Shortly after Sullivan blocked a keepers kick and slotted it into the empty net but the ref said it was a foul and gave cove a free kick.

Before half time Cove scored so at half time it was 2-1. At half time Mehmet Mehmet came on for Tony Readings and early on we were looking to extend our lead Sully had a shot that hit the inside of the post spun along the line and went out for a goal kick. Wardy then converted a header and we were 3-1 up. Shortly after we were awarded a penalty when Ali Russell was fouled in the box Kevin Cooper stepped up and fired home for 4-1. With the game now safe and us knowing we were moving up to 2nd place in the league we continued to attack and had a number of clear cut chances but these were not converted which was frustrating.

As the fireworks continued in the background the dons left Cove with 3 points and the first double of the season and an important move up the table. If you wish to vote for Man of The Match please click below.

Robson Goal & Photo's - I have uploaded two lots of photo's the first lot are from the Woodford Town match and can be viewed here The second lot are from the Chessington & Hook game on Saturday and can be viewed here In both cases they are not the best quality can I apologise in advance for that I am still getting used to taking photos in dark conditions but I hope they will get better.

Thanks to Neil Presland of http://www.afcwimbledonphotos.co.uk and a bit of handy work on my behalf I have managed to create the following animation of Neil Robson's goal it's about 300kb in size so may take about 50 seconds to appear but it's well worth it.

Rollercoaster Ride To Victory - Saturday saw the first real tester for both supporters and the players with the conditions far from ideal with heavy rain falling from lunchtime. After an early morning inspection the game was given the go ahead.

AFC Wimbledon saw the return of both Glyn Shimell and Neil Robson with Ray Merry and Gavin Bolger stepping down also on the bench was Mehmet Mehmet who has done well at Netherne. AFC Wimbledon attacked the West bank in the first half and the conditions were very testing. Neil Robson put in a number of first rate corners that almost curled direct into the net but was just cleared by a combination of defender and keeper before going over the line.

At half time the score was still 0-0 we finally took the lead after Neil Robson stepped up to take a free kick on the edge of the box and for the third game running we scored direct from the free kick. Chessington & Hook who had been a very hard team to break down were not going to give up and shortly after were level after they scored from close range following a corner.

It was time to dig in if we wanted to keep our winning run going and Kevin Cooper ended up scoring the winning goal when he broke past the defence and went round the keeper to slot home into an empty net.

In the closing minutes there were a couple of late challenges by Chessington players but the score remained 2-1 to AFC. With Ash only drawing Tuesday gives us the chance to move ahead of them if we beat second from bottom Cove.

Keep K's Tidy - A message from the Operations director of AFC Wimbledon regarding home games at Kingsmeadow -

AFC Wimbledon are responsible for cleaning the ground after each of our home games. To make this chore a little easier there are big plastic bins placed around the ground, both inside and outside the stadium for your rubbish. You will also see black plastic rubbish bags attached to various parts of the mainstand. Please do your bit and help keep the ground clear of litter. Place your rubbish in the black plastic bags. Letās be considerate to Kās, to the local residents and to each other by keeping the ground clean and tidy.

And if you do have any time at the end before going off to the bar they may need a few people to help sweep up.
