Wimbledon FC 1889 to 2002 - Yesterday lunchtime I got a simple
e-mail just saying we've lost. Time seemed to stand still I didn't
know what to do how to react fortunately it was after 12:00 and therefore
I just said to my colleagues I'm going to lunch. I walked out and
just pottered about for a while didn't want to eat or anything. I
got in last night and was going to do an update but didn't know how
to put it into words. 18 years I had supported this club and two words
in an e-mail seemed to destroy everything. Football is a funny old
game as someone once said it's only once you are involved in watching
a team that you can explain what you go through to other fans. The
vote was apparently 2-1 in favor but the Telegraph reports that all
three were against it! No I cant work it out either. This is going
to take a while to sink in the loss of my club yes I knew it could
happen but media reports implied it wouldn't. What now for the club
I have loved for 18 years I keep telling myself the sooner it disappears
the better I don't want it hanging around before going in a year or
so. I think over the next few weeks a lot of thinking will be done.

Stanley Reed - RIP - Yesterday was a very sad day for all connected
with Wimbledon Football Club with the announcement that Stanley Reed
has died. - Stanley was a very special character and I have many special
memories of him when he would come and chat to the traveling fans
and always be finished off with a rendition of "Here We Are Again,
Happy As Can Be, All Good Fun and Jolly Good Company"
A classic Stanley story is about one year when we played at Highbury.
Stanley was walking round towards the clock end when over the stewards
radio comes a message "Come some one stop the old guy who's walking
round the pitch?" then about 30 seconds latter a new message is made
by someone else "Don't Panic that's Stanley the Wimbledon Chairman
he's off to see his supporters, he does it every week"
Stanley hasn't been well for along time now and although he hasn't
been around the club for a while he will be greatly missed.
Thanks For The Memories Stanley

30/04/2002 Another New Manager Name Linked - The Sun today reports that we could be considering the Valerenga boss Vidar Davidsen to replace Terry Burton. Vidar is Norwegian so the link may have come that way but another name that has been discussed on other sites and apparently was mentioned last year was ex South Africa boss Clive Barker he was in charge of their national team at France 98. |
|
29/04/2002
New Manager Linked - Today's evening standard reported that
Brighton manager Peter Taylor was resigning and could be on his way

with Wimbledon for 14 years and has been responsible for the development
of players like Chris Perry, Damien Francis, Jason Euell, Carl Cort,
Jobi McAnuff, Lionel Morgan the list goes on. |
|
26/04/2002
Who's Being Linked? - Various names being linked with the managers
job already but the only one that has said he want it is Bobby Gould
talking in the Independent he says "Whoever gets the manager's
position will certainly know they've got a challenge. But I'd quite
like that. And Terry Burton has left a good platform." A few other
names have been linked with a rumor on weird
and wonderful world suggesting ex coach Stewart Robson may return.
Other names that could be available are Roy Evans and George Graham
but either of them would be a shock. |
|
26/04/2002
More Player Reaction - Three more players have spoken about
Terry's Departure, first up in the online version of the Daily
Mail Kelvin Davis -
'This decision is not going to help him make any more friends.
The manager did a fantastic job, especially when you see the club's
financial position. 'It's not a great feeling being a player at Wimbledon
knowing the supporters are going one way, the chairman another and
our manager going completely. No-one knows where they stand.'
Mark Williams spoke to The Sun - "I can't believe it. Terry has been forced to sell a lot of our best players or even let them go for free. We've also had a nightmare injury list. Add to that the fans' anger at a move to MK and he couldn't have managed the club at a harder time. Considering all that, we only just missed out on the play-offs so I think he did a great job" Michael Hughes was also interviewed but I'm not sure where this is from - "I can't believe it. I'm really shocked. It was a really happy camp, and I believe with the team we have, Terry was taking us in the right direction for a promotion position next season. Everybody was improving themselves and the job he did was commendable. He was a good manager. It's always good when you have two or three years to get a manager settled in, and now we are going to have to that all over again." |
|
25/04/2002
Various Reaction To Terry Departure - Andy Roberts has been
interviewed on BBC sport web site and it can be listened to here.
The head of the Managers Union can be listened to by clicking here.
Hakan Mild has been quoted as saying the following: - "It's always
sad when someone leaves but this happens in football. You never expect
anything like this but it happens. Everyone is aware of the problems
at the club but they are over my head. It's a bad state of affairs
for Wimbledon." |
|
25/04/2002 Ian Feuer On Terry's Departure - Ian Feuer has been quoted on ceefax tonight about Terry's Departure and says the following: -
"it is a shock, I have to say this is a strange 1. I liked terry
and he was doing a good job, every other game he was losing a player
on loan and didn't know who would be in the squad from week to week
and that doesn't help. But nothing surprises me at this club because
there is so much going on behind the scenes" |
|
25/04/2002
Terry No Longer Manager - It's a bit confusing over Terry Burton's
current situation. A club statement has said that he has been released
from his duties as manager and a full statement will follow. Terry
has been manager for 2 years but has been connected with all levels
of coaching for over 14 years. Once I have more information I will
let you know. |
|
24/04/2002
Burton's Future - The BBC is reporting that a Board meeting
will be held on Thursday and one of the issues up for discussion is
Terry's Future. It Is alleged that Terry Burton was told by Charles
Koppel not to play Peter Hawkins on Sunday due to the fact that this
would trigger a bonus payment in the region of £10,000 to Peter. Terry
said that he wouldn't drop Peter and therefore it is possible that
the board may sack Terry Tomorrow. |
|
23/04/2002
Reserves Beaten - The reserves lost 3-2 last night to a late
suspect penalty. The Dons goals were scored by Adam Nowland and a blistering
shot from the edge of the box from Des Byrne. |
|
22/04/2002
Burton Thinking About Future - Terry Burton said after yesterday's
game that he is thinking about his future. He only has 1 year left
on his contract and made the following comments. "There are a lot
of positive things at this club, but also some negative ones. I said
when I came here I wanted the players to have their own training ground
and as yet we do not have that, which I find very disappointing. These
are the things you need if you are going to develop and move forward
as a club." |
|
22/04/2002

21/04/2002 Barnsley Man Of The Match Vote - The Man Of The Match vote for the Barnsley game is now open to vote please click below.
|
|
21/04/2002
Season Ends In Defeat - Typical end of feel about this one
today nothing really up for either team and it seems to have been
Barnsley that wanted to sign off in style for their traveling fans
after the disappointment of last week. Our team had a number of changes
with Kenny Cunningham and David Connolly missing. The game also had
three dons players that made their debuts in some way Mikele Leigertwood
started while Nigel Reo-Coker and Des Byrne came on from then bench.
Barnsley went in one up and we had a chance just before the end when
we were awarded a penalty but Adam Nowlands effort was saved. So we
finished on 67 points and in 9th place one place above Crystal Palace.
|
|
21/04/2002 Sunday Match Service - Last game of the season today while we having nothing to play for it will be Barnsley's last Division one game for atleast a season following their relegation last week. If you cant make the Barnsley Game

|
20/04/2002 Team News - Looks like we could well have Mark Williams and Mikele Leigertwood in defence tomorrow as Kenny Cunningham has picked up a slight knock we could also see Rob Geir at right back and Jobi McAnuff on the right side of midfield as Neal Ardley is injured as well. |
|
20/04/2002
Couple Of Trust Events Tomorrow - Tomorrow morning at 10:30
sees a Dons Trust side take on Merton Council in a football match
at Wimbledon Common extensions by the robin hood round about. Their
will be a special Dons Trust bus going from Wimbledon and then to
the Farley once the game is over. Once the match against Barnsley
is over pop into the Thomas Farley for a pint and watch Darren Foreman
get his locks chopped and pledge some money to The Dons Trust as well.

20/04/2002
League Send Decision Back To FA - The Football League have
announced that they are asking for an FA Commission to look in to
the request to relocate due to the "potential ramifications" that
allowing it would have on the English game. David Burns the Football
League Chief Executive said "it raised fundamental issues relating
t the way football in this country is organised" |
|
19/04/2002
Lionel Out Until Christmas - Following Lionel Morgan's injury
in the Crewe game it been announced that he has damaged his cruciate
ligaments. This is like the injury that Damien Francis suffered last
season and Lionel will go and see the same surgeon in Austria that
Damien saw. He is likely to be out for 9 months so this will take
him up-to Christmas time. |
|
18/04/2002
New Squad Number - Nigel Reo-Coker could well play in some
part in Sunday's game after he was allocated the number 39 shirt.
Another player that could well see some action is Mikele Leigertwood
who has been on the bench for the last few games and had a loan spell
at Leyton Orient where he did well. |
|
18/04/2002
Round Up Of International Games - Trond played the full game
in Norway's 0-0 draw with Sweden and my earlier information regarding
the republic was incorrect with both Kenny and David coming on at
half time in their 2-1 victory over USA. I have also now found out
that Mark Williams played for Northern Ireland in their 5-0 defeat
against Spain, I wonder if he did get Raul's shirt?
|
|
17/04/2002
International News - The International games are in progress
and mixed fortune on the playing front. Trond Andersen has started
for Norway again but Kenny Cunningham has only made the bench for
the Republic. I would imagine that Mick Mcarthy is just trying to
get his final squad sorted for the World Cup and I'm sure that Kenny
will be in it. David Connolly didn't make the bench for this game
against USA. |
|
17/04/2002
Dons Fans Right Of Reply - You may have seen the other day
that a Wolves site had a match report that used the classic term "No
Ground No Fans" and said we only sold 600 tickets. On reading this
I e-mailed the site to set the record straight and to their credit
they printed my e-mail and a few of the others that they got from
other Wimbledon Fans. You can click
here to visit the site. |
|
16/04/2002
Dons Trust Fundraiser- On Sunday Darren Forman will be raising
money for the Dons Trust by having a "Grade 2 Haircut" OK you might
be thinking so what but if you know Darren you will know what this
will involve if you don't know Darren check the page on the Dons Trust
Website by clicking here.
I think it's safe to say that this is well worth a few quid of anyone's
money so please donate via the site. Good Luck Darren.

|
16/04/2002 Player Of The Year Vote Now Closed - The vote for Player Of The Year is now closed can I say thanks to everyone who voted the result will be announced following Sunday's last game of the season against Barnsley. |
|
16/04/2002 Victory For Reserves - As mentioned last night the reserves held on to the 1-0 lead they had at half time in a close game. |
|
15/04/2002
Reserves In Action - Tonight the reserves are taking on Southampton
at Kingstonians in a game that sees Hakan Mild try and get some vital
match practice before the World Cup in the summer. Also in the side
is Andy Roberts and Dean Blackwell. I have just heard that at half
time it 1-0 to Wimbledon wit the goal from Ansah Owusu.
|
|
15/04/2002
PFA Division One Team Of The Season - Each year the PFA announces
a Team Of The Year for each division these teams are voted for by
the players in each division. Yet again no Wimbledon Player made it
into the team of the year but for the record the division one team
of the year is as follows: -
Russell Hoult (WBA), Graham Alexander (Preston), Darren Moore (WBA), Joleon Lescott (Wolves), Neil Clement (WBA), Eyal Berkovic (Manchester City), Mark Kennedy (Wolves), Ali Benarbia (Manchester City), Robert Prosinecki (Portsmouth), Shaun Goater (Manchester City), Dougie Freedman (Crystal Palace). |

14/04/2002
Double Victory For Kevin Cooper - Whilst our slim play off
hopes came to an end Wolves still cling to the hope that they can
go us automatically and not via the play off's. This was a very tight
game and I think we had the better of the first half even if we did
go in 1-0 down after a Kevin Cooper corner was headed into an unguarded
net but Nathan Blake. David Connolly had a goal disallowed when with
his back to goal he appeared to handle it the Wolves fans hadn't seen
this and were stunned when it went in and couldn't believe their luck
when a free-kick was given. Neal Ardley went off injured and from
that point we appeared to lose our shape. This was the first game
that Terry Burton had returned to the bench and it was nice to see
him there. Once the game had finished Kevin Cooper came over to be
presented with the "Yellow & Blue" Player of the Year award and he
seemed really pleased to be presented with it by Kris Stewart. After
Much Applause he left the pitch the Wolves fans seemed to be impressed
with the excellent turn out and support that one of there player received.
|
|
14/04/2002
Team News - Kenny Cunningham and Jobi McAnuff have recovered
from knocks that they got in the week so should be OK to play. Lionel
was unavailable for this game following his call up to the England
Under 19's squad but his injury has meant he has had an operation
and his season is over. Today's game is of huge importance for both
clubs with defeat for Wolves meaning that West Bromwich Albion get
the second automatic promotion place and Wolves would be in the play
offs this is of course the result we are hoping for because it would
mean we are still in with a chance when we play Barnsley next Sunday.
The game will also be a chance to say thanks to Kevin Cooper following
his £1 million pound move to Wolves. |
|
14/04/2002 Sunday Matchday Service - If you cant make the Wolves Game
the following might help. If you are able to listen to the commentary
from the Official Site click Here.
If you just want text updates have a look at the BBC service that
gets updated every 2 minutes by clicking here. The game is also on the Sports Channel of ITV Digital so if you have the service or know a pub that does you could watch the game there. |

13/04/2002
Gareth Watch At Selhurst - As mentioned earlier today I went
to Selhurst Park to watch Preston play Crystal Palace. Gareth started
the game and played wide on the right but seemed to be playing very
deep and also didn't seem to be involved in free kicks or corners
that much although we did manage to see a few of his trademark runs
and crosses. Their wasn't many shooting chances for either team in
the first half but very much like our away game at Palace earlier
in the season Palace scored against the run of play and then stamped
their authority on the game. I thought Gareth should of been awarded
a penalty when he was pushed over by a defender but it was just waved
on. Gareth had a couple of other chances but on the whole he seemed
a bit subdued and after about 65 minutes he was replaced. Palace went
on to win 2-0 and almost ended Preston's play off chances.
|
|
13/04/2002 Bradford City Man Of The Match Result - The result of the Bradford Man Of The Match vote is as follows: - Neal Ardley 19
52.78% Peter Hawkins 3 8.33% Trond Andersen 3 8.33% Neil Shipperley 3 8.33% Kelvin Davis 2 5.56% Darren Holloway 2 5.56% Kenny Cunningham 1 2.78% Jobi McAnuff 1 2.78% Chris Willmott 1 2.78% Par Karlsson 1 2.78%
A new vote will open on Sunday night following the Wolves game.
|
|
13/04/2002
Playoff Hopes Can Be Over Today - If Birmingham who are away
at Rotherham and Burnley who play Grimsby away today both win our
playoff chances will be over. I am going to watch the game at Selhurst
Park where Gareth Ainsworth will be on display for Preston against
Palace. I will report on how he gets on tonight. |
|
13/04/2002
Hughes Returns From Birmingham - Michael Hughes loan spell
at Birmingham has come to an end after he picked up an injury and
wont play again this season. His proposed move to Birmingham on a
permanent basis could still take place in the summer but for now his
season is over. |
|
12/04/2002
Robinson Linked With Norway - The Grimsby Rival site has a
story about their loan striker Paul Robinson going to play for Norwegian
club Lillestr¿m. With the Norwegian Season only just started it would
give Paul a chance to get some games played and as he is out of contract
with us could get him a club for next season. The full article can
be read
here but also mentions that the interest was started when ex-Dons coach Lars Tj¾rnŒs recommended Lillestr¿m to have a look at Paul. |
|
11/04/2002
Playoff Hopes Look Over - With our playoff hopes looking slim
already last nights result of Birmingham 3 Crewe 1 looks like they
are over altogether. The playoff teams now have a minimum of 71 points
and with us able to get a maximum of 73 points with two games left
it looks like we will be in Division One next year playing Leicester
and Brighton |
|
10/04/2002
More International Call Up's - Both David Connolly and Kenny
Cunningham have been called up for their game against the United States
next week. Mark Williams has been called up by Northern Ireland for
their game against Spain. |
|

Trond In Norway Call Up - Trond Andersen has been called up
for the Norwegian squad for their game next week against Sweden. After
playing the last couple of games for Norway he should be in with a
good chance of starting the game. |
|
09/04/2002 Reserves Defeated By Arsenal - The reserves lost 2-1 at Arsenal last night. We took the lead just before Half Time When Adam Nowland lobbed the keeper from over 35 yards, But Arsenal who had an experienced side out scored two late goals with the last one being in the final minute to take the points. |

06/04/2002
Disappointment Following Defeat - This afternoon we suffered
a 2-1 defeat to Bradford City which left our playoff hopes just that
bit further away. A Couple of player and positional changes were made
today with David Connolly coming in for Adam Nowland and Damien Francis
playing out on the wing. In very blustery conditions we didn't get
a grip of the game like we did against Crewe. Bradfords first goal
came on the half hour mark when a cross was just glanced in past Kelvin
Davis. We had more chances in the second half but couldn't convert
them and then Bradford broke away to win a corner the ball seemed
to be cleared but was then played into the box but the two Bradford
players looked offside but it wasn't given and they went 2-0 up. We
continued to push forward and in the final minute we were awarded
a penalty when David Connolly was pulled down, he got up and put the
ball into the back of the net, but it wasn't enough and with Preston
and Burnley winning it's going to be an uphill battle.

Ticket Information & Saturday - Just a reminder that Sunday
Weeks game at Wolves is All Ticket so if you haven't got your ticket
yet make sure that you get them tomorrow it could well end up being
a crunch game for both sides and Wolves might try and get extra tickets
by reducing our allocation. On Saturday we have a big game against
Bradford City lets all get behind the team like we did last night.
The players have played 3 games in the past week so it's going to
be important that we give them as much support as we can.

Injury Update & Lionel Call Up - Last night both Lionel and
Adam Nowland went off injured the early update may not be too bad.
Adam Nowland suffered from cramp but he may miss tomorrow's game.
Lionel left the ground on crutches which is better than had been feared
but he went into training this morning so he may be back before the
end of season. Lionel has been called up for the England Under 19's
playoff match unfortunately this means that he will bee unavailable
for our game at Wolves on Sunday week. As the England game is a play-off
match we are not allowed to withdraw him. |

At Last! - Tonight's performance was just brilliant we all
knew the facts about not winning midweek but tonight although we took
a while to score I think we would of beaten anybody it was a brilliant
all round performance from Kelvin in Goal to Agye when he came on
as sub. The result now has us in 8th place and only 1 point off the
playoffs now we must make sure that we get the points on Saturday.
The first goal tonight came from a brilliant Holloway cross and a
Shipperley header the second was a Jobi shot that seemed to take a
deflection on the way through. It wasn't all one way traffic and Kelvin
was called on to make a couple of saves that kept the score at 0-0
either side of half time. A number of changes were made to the side
with Agyemang and Francis stepping down to the bench and Trond and
Nowland starting. Both Lionel and Nowland went off injured with Lionel's
looking the worse as he was stretchered straight off to the ambulance
after going down with what looked like a twisted knee.

Tonight's Team News - Mark Williams and Jermaine Darlington
are both out of tonight's game and should be replaced by Darren Holloway
and Chris Willmott. Jermaine's injury has needed surgery so he will
miss the rest of the season. This is the last match that David Connolly
is due to miss after his sending off at Nottingham Forest. Crewe will
also be missing their leading scorer tonight. |

02/04/2002 A Look At The Run In - With just 3 games left for most team I thought I would list the games left for each of the play-off candidates: - Team - Pos - Pts
Burnley 4th 69 Pts - Gillingham (H), Grimsby (A), Coventry
(H)
Millwall 5th 68 Pts - Wolves (H), Coventry (A), Grimsby (H)
Birmingham 6th 68 Pts - Portsmouth (H), Crewe (H), Rotherham
(A), Sheffield United (H)
Norwich 7th 68 Pts - Grimsby (H), Barnsley (A), Stockport (H)
Coventry 8th 66 Pts - Preston (A), Millwall (H), Burnley (A)
Preston 9th 66 Pts - Coventry (H), Palace (A), Forest (H)
Wimbledon 10th 64 Pts - Crewe (H), Bradford (H), Wolves (A),
Barnsley (H)
Crystal Palace 11th 62 Pts - Crewe (A), Preston (H), West Brom
(A)
Looking at the teams run in's with so many of them playing each other
a play off place could be in our own hands. Another team who is heavily
involved is Grimsby who are fighting to stay in the division.

It's Getting Close Now - The race for the playoffs took another
twist today with the possibility of a victory on Thursday night putting
us 1 point behind the playoff zone. The game at Sheffield United wont
be described as a classic but we got the three points thanks to an
Ardley shot that took a couple of deflections and ended up coming
off Mr. Keith Curle. A couple of changes were made to the starting
line up with Mark Williams returning for Chris Willmott and Jobi McAnuff
replacing Trond Andersen, Neal Ardley moved into the middle so Jobi
could be out wide. The game started and early on we could of took
the lead but Neal Shipperley headed the ball across goal when it seemed
he only had to hit it on target to score. Their were few other chances
but then just before the break Neal Ardley had a shot from the edge
of the box it looked like it would just be deflected up field but
somehow it went through the box and rolled over the line to the astonishment
of the players of both teams and Dons fans behind the goal. In the
second half Kelvin had to pull off two World class saves to keep the
scores level but we managed to hold on and find out that most the
results had gone good for us. As I mentioned Mark Williams returned
but before the end had to be replaced when he clashed with a Sheffield
United player and picked up a face injury it looks like he needed
stitches, It would be a Mark Williams game if he didn't end up with
some cut bump or bruise. |

Sheffield United Game Team News - Looks like it could well
be the same line up as Saturday with no fresh injuries although it
would be nice to see both Mark Williams and Adam Nowland given more
of a run out. |
