Two Moments Of Class Three Points - This game had two outstanding
moments but in the end we came away with the three points and our
play-off chances are still alive. The first moment came after 17 minutes
when we were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box Lionel Morgan,
who was playing in place of the departed Kevin Cooper stepped up after
some encouragement from Neal Ardley and stroked the ball brilliantly
over the wall and into the back of the net. 1-0 to the Dons. Although
we had chances we just could turn them into more goals and Rotherham
continued to pressure us but we seemed to have learned our lessons
from our game up their and we managed to block the chances they made.
In the final moments Kelvin pulled off a world class save from an
effort that would of leveled the score. We had a chance when Jobi
broke free but he was hauled down on the edge of the box and the Rotherham
player was sent off. |

29/03/2002 Saturday Team News - So we know we are going to have one change on Saturday with Kevin Cooper no longer at the club. It looks like he will be replaced by Lionel Morgan. Kelvin Davis should also be back in the starting line up following his injury. |
|
29/03/2002
Trust Newsletter - On Saturday the first Dons Newsletter will
be available for all members. The Newsletter will be sent to all members
but if you can pop up to Crystal's above Sainsburys to the trust matchday
centre it would be appreciated as this will save on postage cost and
they can also make sure they have people's right addresses before
the Members certificate's and badges are sent out. If your not a member
you can always pop up and join the guys and girls up their will be
pleased to see you. |
|
28/03/2002 Transfer Round Up - With the transfer deadline the only additional confirmed moves are Paul Robinson on loan to Grimsby and Andy Roberts returning from Norwich. Although in the last two days we have lost Ainsworth, Hughes and Cooper it could of turned out a lot worse and lets hope that the remaining players can get us back to winning ways on Saturday. |
|
28/03/2002
Two More Out On Loan - Two more Dons players have gone out
on loan until the end of the season Wayne Gray has gone to Brighton
as they push for promotion but with Bobby Zamora out injured they
need cover. The second and one that will disappoint most Dons fans
is the news that Gareth Ainsworth has returned to former club Preston
full story can be read on his Website here.
With Gareth out of contract it's safe to say we have seen the last
of him at the Dons. I would just like to say that a player who has
been dogged by injury since he joined us he certainly made an impact
in the games he played. Good Luck Gareth you will be missed by all
Dons fans. |
|
28/03/2002
Transfer Deadline Day - Today is transfer deadline day and
the last chance for clubs to get in any additional players before
the end of the season. The deadline is 5pm but there always seems
to be a couple of deals that are done after this time. To find out
the latest moves that have been completed click
here to go to the BBC list. |
|
27/03/2002 International Action - A number of International games going on tonight Trond Andersen started for Norway and after 50 minutes the score is 0-0. Kenny Cunningham started for the Republic Of Ireland it looks like David Connolly will start on the bench. Mark Williams also started for Northern Ireland. |
|
27/03/2002
Two Down Any More To Go? - As expected Kevin Cooper and Michael
Hughes have left the Dons, While Michael Hughes move to Birmingham
is an end of season loan with the option of permanent move. Kevin
Cooper's move to West Brom is for an initial £1 million but could
increase based on appearances and if Wolves get promoted. If we are
still in with a shout of the play-off's lets hope Wolves are already
promoted when we visit them for the second last game of the season.
Can I wish both players all the best. |
|
26/03/2002
Coop's Off To Wolves - It looks like Kevin Cooper will complete
his £1 million pound to Wolves by Thursday afternoon following news
that he is discussing personal terms with the premiership bound club.
Kevin Cooper has been involved in every Wimbledon game this season
and it will be a real shame if he leaves. |
|
26/03/2002
Willow Wants To Go On Loan - A story that seems to have been
missed from last week is the news that Mark Williams has asked if
he can go out on loan before transfer deadline day. The full story
is on Mark's web
site. He says that he is frustrated at getting back to fitness
but not getting first team action. After being out for such a long
time he feels that it's important that he gets back playing again.
He does say that he doesn't want to leave the club and only wants
a temporary loan move. |
|
26/03/2002
Reserves Lose Close Game - The reserves lost 3-2 at Leicester
City last night with the Dons goals coming from Adam Nowland and Jobi
McAnuff. Both Gareth Ainsworth and Dean Blackwell played the full
game. Adam Nowland's goal was set up by Lionel Morgan who's pass caught
out the city defence and allowed Adam to finish past Tim Flowers.
|
|
25/03/2002 Reserves In Action - Tonight the reserves are away at Leicester City and the line up includes, Jermaine Darlington, Gareth Ainsworth, Dean Blackwell and Jobi McAnuff. The game was due to be played a few weeks ago but got called off. |
|
24/03/2002
Good Luck To Wimbledon Speedway - This afternoon Wimbledon
Speedway have their first meeting for over 10 years when they race
at Peterborough. The Dons are not due to start their league program
at Plough Lane until the start of May but it's great for them to be
back. |
|
24/03/2002
Transfer Rumors - With Transfer deadline day being Thursday
of this week it is likely that their will be a number of stories linking
players with moves. Where we stand after yesterday's result it's hard
to say, the story is that no first team players will go while we have
a shout of the play offs, has yesterday's result ended them chances?
Anyway one player that we expect to be off is Alan Kimble and although
he is on loan at Peterborough could well join Leicester City on a
permanent move this week. Another story in the papers says that Neil
Shipperley is off to Cardiff. |
|
23/03/2002
Play-Off Chances Gone Fishing!! - I didn't go to the game today
and it was looking good when we twice took the lead first through
Neil Shipperley and then Patrick Agyemang but the second half sounds
like it was a disaster and after being 2-2 at half time it finished
6-2 to Grimsby. Their is a little bit more to the game though with
Kelvin Davis suffering with a back injury and therefore Ian Feuer
started in goal, but on 82 minutes Ian was sent off and a penalty
was awarded (the second of the game) Shane Gore came on and had to
face the penalty he saved it but the referee said it had to be retaken
as a player had encroached into the area, the retaken penalty was
scored and Grimsby went on to score 2 more goals in the final 8 minutes.
I think it is safe to say that any chances of getting to the play-offs
is now over. |

22/03/2002
Team News - Looks like the same team as last weekend except
for Patrick Agyemang replacing the suspended David Connolly. Grimsby
are a team that seem to have turned the corner and over the last 6
matches sit 6th in the form guide with us in 3rd place. It will be
a tough game but one we need to win if we are to make the play-offs.
|
|
21/03/2002
Terry Has Op - Terry Burton was due to have an op today to
try and clear up the problem that he has been suffering from for the
past 10 days. I would imagine that he will be out of action for atleast
the next few weeks and could well be away until the end of the season.
As ever we wish Terry all the best and hope he is back very soon.
|
|
20/03/2002
Reserves Draw - The reserves played Chelsea today after the
game was called off on Monday night. The score was 1-1 with the dons
goal being scored from the penalty spot by Adam Nowland after Wayne
Gray was bought down. |
|
20/03/2002
International Call Up's - Four players have been called up
from the Dons for International duty although by the time the games
are played next Wednesday one of them may not be at the Dons. David
Connolly and Kenny Cunningham have been called up for Republic Of
Ireland in their build up to the World cup, while Mark Williams and
Michael Hughes have been called up for Northern Ireland. David Connolly
being called up will is good news as it should give him some match
practice while he serves his 4 match domestic ban. |
|
19/03/2002 KC Linked With Wolves - Same initials different player, this time Kevin Cooper has now been linked with a £1 million move to Wolves. Kevin recently turned down a move to West Brom due to wanting to stay in London and as he liked the club. Wolves can only be hoping that the lure of Premiership Football would be enough for him to join. |
|
19/03/2002 KC Says No To Millwall - Kenny Cunningham has turned down a loan move to Millwall, yes you did read that right. In today's Sun Newspaper it reports that Millwall asked for Kenny on loan but the player turned it down. A player at the club said "We've been told the chairman believes we have no chance of reaching the play-offs but we intend to prove him wrong." |
|

|
18/03/2002
Reserves Game Off - The reserves were due to play Chelsea tonight
away but Chelsea play their "Home" reserve games at Aldershot! and
their pitch has been waterlogged tonight so the game got called off.
|
|
17/03/2002
Connolly Misses Next Four Games - After David's sending off
against Nottingham forest he will now miss the next four games which
are against Grimsby, Rotherham, Sheffield United and Crewe. After
seeing his excellent performance yesterday we will miss him but I'm
sure once he returns he will be really hungry to guarantee his place
in The Republic Of Ireland's world Cup squad and possibly help us
push towards the playoff's. |
|
17/03/2002
Terry Burton In Hospital - As mentioned yesterday Terry Burton
is currently in hospital after not feeling well earlier in the week.
It would appear that he has an abscess on his appendix. He will be
having test in hospital and could mean he will be away from the team
for a while. I would just like to wish him all the best from all Dons
Fans and everyone who reads itmustbedons.com. |

Can The Playoff's Be Reached? - After today's victory we are
only 6 points off the play-offs, can they be reached we will just
have to wait and see. The victory today unfortunately meant that Stockport
will be relegated at the end of this season but I think due to results
they would of gone down even if they won. The team was disputed before
the game with the news that Terry Burton was in hospital (more on
this on Sunday) so Ernie Tippet and Stuart Murdoch were in charge.
Kevin Cooper came in to face his old club along with Neal Ardley while
Jobi and Lionel were back on the bench. David Connolly scored two
brilliant goals the first direct from a free kick before his second
he could of scored a great goal that was like Gazza's in Euro 96 but
it just went wide. He took his second well and then Neal Ardley headed
home our third. By this time Stockport knew they were down but it
was nice for their players and fans that they got a goal back which
was well taken. It was also nice to see that after the final whistle
the Stockport fans and players got a standing ovation from the dons
fans. |

15/03/2002
Team News - Apart from a couple of minor knocks from the victory
over Portsmouth in the week we have no new injury worries so for once
it could be a selection problem. Kevin Cooper will be keen to return
to the starting line up against the team he left last season and scored
in the opening minutes against this year. |
|
15/03/2002
Saturday's Game - This Saturday could see Stockport relegated
if we beat them even if we only get a point they would need maximum
points from their remaining games and to clear a negative goal difference
on the teams above them of approximately 30! A victory for us could
move us up to 9th an even dare I say it above Palace, who travel to
Manchester City. |
|
14/03/2002
Ticket News - This weekend it's Kids for a Quid at Selhurst,
and for our trip to Sheffield United on April 1st which is a 3pm kick
off if you buy your ticket in advance it will only cost you £5.00
compared to £16.00 on the day. |
|
13/03/2002
Kimble Out On Loan - Alan Kimble has joined Peterborough United
on loan until the end of the season and therefore will have played
his last game for the Dons. Alan started his career at Cambridge United
so will have now played for both of the rivals. I would just like
to wish Alan Kimble the best of luck and if he passes through the
site just to say I still treasure his shirt from the Huddersfield
Cup game when he scored, cheers Alan. |
|
13/03/2002
Cooper Wants to Stay - After Kevin Cooper scored the first
goal in our 2-1 victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday night he announced
that he didn't want to be sold to West Brom. He Said "As far as
I am aware West Brom have made an offer and I must admit that I am
very disappointed that they may have to sell me as I have only been
here for a year and myself and my family have settled very well into
the area." "I enjoy playing for the club and I get on very well with
all the lads here, they really are a great set of players and as far
as I am concerned I want to stay." |

Came From Behind Again - After conceding a goal on 4 minutes
it didn't look like the dons would get anything from this game but
two late goals the first from Kevin Cooper who had started on the
bench scored on 77 minutes we then took control and Connolly put us
2-1 up on 84 minutes. Well done David it's nice to see you scoring
goals. Ardley and Cooper started on the bench but came on for Trond
and Lionel. |

Three Out Of Three For Reserves - The reserves got their third
on the trot home win last night with a 1-0 win thanks to a Wayne Gray.
Apparently we were well worth our victory. The goal was setup by Kjetil
Waehler who played his first game in two years. |
|
11/03/2002
Tuesday's Team News - Looks like we could have the same team
on Tuesday night when for the third time we try and play Portsmouth.
Although they had a good win on Saturday (3-0 against Millwall) it
looks like they could have 8 players missing. |
|
11/03/2002
Reserves In Action Tonight - Tonight see the Reserves in with
a chance of doing what the first team couldn't do on Saturday and
that's Score/beat Nottingham Forest. The team is mostly youngsters
with Jamie Buchan on trial from Dundee United. The game starts at
7:30 at Kingstonians ground. |
|
10/03/2002
David Connolly - Hero Or Villain? - David Connolly is a very
talented footballer who could well be going to the World Cup with
The Republic Of Ireland but every now and then he seems to lose it
and yesterday was one of these days. With the score at 0-0 and the
result in the balance David Connolly first of all aimed a kick at
a player both the ref and the linesman missed this and we thought
he was lucky to get away with it. Then a bit later David was fouled
the ref said that we had the advantage and played on but the ball
ran out for a throw, it looked like the ref would call it back for
a free kick for us but before he did this David jumped up and just
pushed the player in the face right in front of the ref. We all knew
what was coming and rightly the ref sent him off. In all the games
I have been at I have never seen so many fans of a team that had just
had a player sent off be so annoyed with the player it could well
of cost us the points from that point we had very few attacking chances.
It's not the first time that events like this has happened He was
sent off at West Brom and he also kicked out at a player in the Forest
game at Selhurst (this was missed by the officials). I just wish like
most fans that David would concentrate on being the very good player
that he is. He will now get a 4 match ban and could well cost him
his World cup place, Lets hope it doesn't. |
|
10/03/2002
Cooper For West Ham? - The News Of The World has today linked
Kevin Cooper to a possible move to West Ham for a fee in the region
of £1 million. On Thursday Charles Koppel was apparently on Talksport
where he said that a number of players were likely to leave before
transfer deadline day, which is on 28th March. |

0-0 At Forest - It was one of them days today first of all
the coach turned up 25 minutes late after the M1 was locked solid.
When we got their it seemed like a force 10 gale was blowing and it
was very hard for either team to take a grip on the game. In the second
half we had a bit better of the play but as the game went on forest
got back into the game. We then got our first chance to see Adam Nowland
in action when he replaced Patrick Agyemang. We once again got into
the game but then David Connolly got sent off for retaliation I will
talk about this tomorrow but from this point we had few chances to
go forward. Forest hit the post but the ball went out for a throw.
The game finished 0-0 but I think that was a fair result

Dons Fans Backing Bury - As you may have seen in the guestbook
earlier in the week Bury have got the "Buy A Seat" campaign and word
is that although Brighton are leading the way Wimbledon fans are well
up on the other club list so far over 7,000 seats have gone with about
5,000 left. Each seat cost a minimum of £10.00 and you can buy 1 or
as many as you want. If you are interested you can read more here

Sheffield Wednesday Reflection - Neal Ardley's 25 yard goal
turns out to have taken a nasty deflection off a defender and shot
past the keeper. The fact that we won after being a goal behind was
the first time since we beat Leicester in 2000. Now all we need to
do is beat Crewe when that game is played. |

3 Points In Sheffield - I wasn't at the game tonight and only
caught the last 10 minutes on the web cast so I cant really do a match
report of the 2-1 victory in Sheffield. From what I do know the web
cast said we were well worth the points even though we went 1-0 down
after 12 minutes. Right on half time David Connolly pulled the scores
level and then on 60 minutes Neal Ardley put us ahead.

Team News - Looks like Neil Shipperley hasn't made the trip
to Sheffield Wednesday but David Connolly and Wayne Gray are in the
squad. It also looks like Lionel Morgan could well get a start after
Terry Burton said that now it looks like our play off chances are
over a few youngsters would be involved in games. In the Sheffield
Wednesday side Efan Ekoku will be involved but I'm not sure if Paul
Heald will be on the bench or not. |

Cheers Hughesy - Michael Hughes has been talking about his
move to Birmingham which is due to be completed any day. "It is
a shame I have to go, but the clubs financial position has been well
documented and Birmingham approached me late last week and have said
there is a contract waiting for me at the end of the season should
I wish to stay. I have really enjoyed myself at Wimbledon even when
I was not in the side on occasions, it is a good club and a good bunch
of lads. We all have favorite moments of magic that Michael has
been involved in and I can only wish him the best of luck.

Hughes On Loan to Birmingham? - It looks like Michael Hughes
will go on loan this week to Birmingham for the rest of the season
with a view to a permanent move. Steve Bruce said that it was planned
that the deal would be signed on Monday but with Hughes out injured
at the moment the deal will be delayed to the end of this week.

he was suffering from a virus over the weekend and missed the West
Brom game. |

03/03/2002
Who's Next For Brum? - After the enquiries this week for Trond
and Damien the News Of The world reports that Michael Hughes is likely
to make a move to Birmingham City this week. It reports that the move
is for £500,000 and Michael will earn £15,000 per week. If we do get
a fee for him it will be a bonus as it's reported that he is available
if someone meets his wage demands. |

Defeat To The 1-0 Specialists - When you are up against a team
that doesn't score that many goals and have managed to keep just under
20 clean sheets in 35 games you know that the first goal of the match
can make or break the game. In the first half their was very little
between the two teams and we edged it but we just couldn't find the
break through. In the second half West Brom seemed to just step it
up a bit and on 52 minutes a cross from the right was met by a Danny
Dichio header into the back of the net. From that point West Brom's
confidence raised and they became even harder to break down we had

victory it may have seemed like they had stole the points but I think
it's fair to say that we did the same at their ground earlier in the
season. |
