Directions To Kingstonians - A route I am sure that most people
know and if you don't know it you will by the end of the season.
By Bus you can get a 131 from the bus stop down the side of
the road that the Prince Of Wales pub is on in Wimbledon. The bus
stops right outside the ground.
By Train you need to go to Norbiton and the walk the back streets
its about a 10 minute walk. See the map here.
By Car check the directions out here
although there is a car park at the ground it is likely to be full
early in the evening with a big crowd expected, so you may need to
find street parking which could be difficult. |

29/07/2002 More Wise Words - Once again Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.
Just a quick word- to thank all those who turned up at Windsor
,a good day was had by all (except for the result I hope) - there
were so many 'positives' in the game. I know it has been hard to watch
- but the team I have now, will only go on from strength to strength
. Kevin Cooper showed me in spells what we have been missing around
the 'box' , the defence is getting a better understanding of what
is required & in Midfield we have a little bit of 'bite'. I understand
some of your feelings on the lack of appearances of some of youngsters
. However we are building a unit & for the CCL which will need 'experience'
in most areas . But with a 'touch of class & enthusiasm' that our
quality youngsters will bring. I must also say that the 'Confidence'
that you as supporters are giving to the squad has been immense even
through the difficult situations- There realisation of what it means
to so many people including myself was never more evident than after
the terrible Walton performance when they were still 'cheered' off,
but came down to 'earth' in the changing room when they received a
severe 'rocket'. Kingstonian will be hard but so was forming our own
club & look what we did there. Keep up the fantastic support - Jonesy
keep taking the 'Tablets' there doing wonders in keeping you calm.

27/07/2002 Getting Better But Another Defeat - First of all I understand that there were technical problems with the updates they should be fixed for Tuesday night.Dean Martin was due to be a sub but picked up an injury in the final moments of warm up, but the word is although he needed to be carried off the pitch he has twisted his ankle and hopes to be back soon.
The Dons saw a couple of new faces again with Andy Bell in goal and
Kevin Cooper up front. Mehmet was on the bench but Dave Fry and Trigger
started. We played a lot better than we have done and looked more
of a team the score at half time was 0-0. In the second half we changed
keepers to Aiden Martin but he was caught out by a short back pass
and Windsor and Eton took the lead. We continued to push forward and
our best chance came when Trigger had an effort parried by the keeper
and then Andy Sullivan shot over the bar.
The game finished 1-0 to Windsor but as mentioned it was a good all round performance. I will add the pictures on Sunday. |

Kevin Cooper To Play For AFC Wimbledon - No Not that one :)
- Kevin Cooper who played for Sutton against us and scored 2 goals
is apparently in line to play for AFC Wimbledon at Windsor and Eton.
It would be ironic if he joined us and then went on to become Player
of The Year. |

AFC Wimbledon At Commonwealth Games - So the Commonwealth Games
doesn't include football unless you are that captain of England well
lets say that AFC Wimbledon have a representative at the games in
the Boxing. Darren Langley is a boxer who used to be a season ticket
holder at Selhurst but is now like all of us an AFC Fan. He says he
was gutted that he couldn't make any of the pre season games due to
training. The full report can be read here.

Directions To Windsor & Eton - Saturday sees us make the trip

the ground and can be seen here
The second shows more of Windsor and can be seen here.

one by the river on the top right of the page and the ground is in
the bottom left where it says "cemy".

25/07/2002 More Words From Terry Eames - Once again Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.
I understand there will pictures of our 'ugly mugs' planned for
the official Website. Just a quick note also on how things are going
- I can understand your disappoint in that we haven't gained our first
win & that performance levels have fluctuated from good to bad. However,
you have these periods in any development. But one thing I can promise
you is that the team that will be playing as AFC Wimbledon from 'Sandhurst'
onwards will be a 'force' in the the old traditions.

25/07/2002 Meet The Players - Fed up of being at AFC games and shouting "come on number 10" well plans are under way for a Meet The Players day at Centre Court Shopping Centre on Sunday 4th August. No more details are known at the moment but as soon as I have additional information I will let you all know. I will of course be there and doing a full report for itmustbedons.com |

AFC Wimbledon Mentioned In Prime Ministers Questions - One
of them rare moments today when a question of interest comes up in
Prime Ministers Questions. Wimbledon MP and AFC fan Roger Cassell
raised the question about the plans and views of Tony Blair of the
relocation of Wimbledon FC. Although Tony Blair couldn't say anything
earth shattering he did praise the Wimbledon Fans and all they had
been through, and it appears that all the media sources have picked
up on it as well. |

23/07/2002
Defeat At Walton & Hersham - AFC Wimbledon lost tonight 5-0
against a very good Walton & Hersham side in front once again of a
good crowd. As I seem to be saying after each game we can see the
improvements on the pitch and we are of course still trying out different
things. From what I could see the 2nd half team seemed to have more
potential starting eleven players than the 1st half team did and the
2nd half team appeared to be the stronger. Andy Hunt the keeper played
the full game and pulled off some brilliant saves and got beat by
some good chances so even though we conceded 5 he can come out with
some credit.
I will add the photo's on Wednesday and hope you will enjoy them. |
|
23/07/2002 Sandhurst Town All Ticket - As expected Sandhurst Town have announced that the game on 17th August 2002 will be all ticket and AFC Wimbledon will be issuing vouchers to enable people to get tickets. Sandhurst Town holds 2,000 people. They have also announced that prices will be £5.00 for adults and £1.00 kids, The programme will cost £2.00 and they will also be selling badges of the special day.No news is known at present as to how the vouchers will be issued but as soon as I know I will provide details. |

Friendly Game This Weekend - It's just been announced that
AFC Wimbledon will take on Windsor and Eton on Saturday. The game
will be played at their ground with a 3pm kick off. AFC Wimbledon

on Saturday but there wasn't enough time to organise it but is grateful
to Windsor & Eton at such short notice. I will provide full travel
news nearer the weekend. |

Directions To Walton & Hersham - Tuesday Night sees us take
on Walton & Hersham in our next friendly match. Walton & Hersham play
in Division One South of the Rymans league so should be a good test
to see how we are doing.
In terms of getting to the game the ground is in Stompond Lane and
can be seen in the top left hand corner of the map that can be seen
here. The ground is where it says running track and the easiest way would bee train from Wimbledon. Direct trains depart at 17:22, 18:26 & 18:52 and arrive at Walton On Thames Station at 17:39, 18:43 and 19:10 for the journey back 21:59 and 22:29 and get back to Wimbledon at 22:17 and 22:47.

The Boreham Wood Experience - I have now put the photo's up
from the Boreham Wood game and you can see them here.
I thought I would add a bit more about the day in general as it was
a really good day. I got the train from Tooting at 1pm and it was
nice to see so many Dons fans on the platform and also on the train.
Then as we got to Lougborough Junction a guy got on with a sports
bag and as he walked past me he said "all right" a few people looked
round and after he had gone I said I think that's one of our players,
it turned out to be Steve Reyes.
The trip to Boreham Wood and Elstree only took an hour and we left
the station someone started to talk to this lady about AFC Wimbledon.
Next thing we saw was this guy running across the road followed by
someone, the guy at the front as he approached us dropped this bag
and continued running the lady who was still with us said "You have
dropped your shopping" but I pointed out "I think he's been shop lifting"
she laughed and we headed off to the pub. The Weatherspoons pub already
had a lot of dons fans in it and the bar man made the comment "So
what 5 years before you lot are back in the premiership?" we pointed
out it would be 8!
As the weather was nice we stood outside and all you could see was Yellow Shirts coming down the road. After the next train arrived a lot people came in and the word was that Trigger had been on the train, but had got a cab to the ground.
Kris and Ivor stopped off at the pub to have a quick drink before
the game. We headed off and on the way was a McDonalds so after missing
the goal at Bromley I had a burger in advance and then headed on to
the ground. It was a nice ground and as reported it was a fun game.
On the way back a group of fans decided that they should visit the Big Brother House but got turned back by security so had to give up on that idea. We walked back to the Station and thought we had missed the train by just over 5 minutes but the train was late and so we all got back nice and early. One final point remember the story about Trigger and his cab? well while walking back I got speaking to Two Don fans one who was young was in a wheelchair and had been on the same train as Trigger as they had left the station Trigger asked them if they were going straight to the ground and told them to jump in his cab, the supporters at the time didn't know who Trigger was but they do now. :)

here and the other is about how Sandhurst Town are getting ready
for our first game of the season, this can be read
here. |
|
20/07/2002 Defeat At Boreham Wood - This afternoon we played Boreham Wood who finished last season 4th in the Ryman Premier League. The Dons took the lead when Trigger curled in another wonder goal from 25 yards. After that we seemed to lose it a bit and by half time we were 2-1 down and it looked like a couple of goalkeeper errors. In the second half we made a couple of changes including the keeper but a very strong Boreham Wood side scored two more goals but late on we got a penalty which was put away by Mehmet Mehmet to make the final score 4-2 to Boreham Wood with a decent crowd in the region of 750 was there to see it. |

Info For Boreham Wood - Guess what platform we leave from Wimbledon
on Saturday? Platform 9 again like we did for Sutton, Dulwich and
Bromley but this time the journey is just over an hour so set off
a bit earlier, it's in travelcard zone 6 so it may only cost you £5.00
in travel and £6.00 to get in. The train times are 23 and 53 minutes
past the hour and arrive at 28 and 58 past the hour so a journey time
of 1 hour 5 minutes. When you get to Boreham Wood station you need
to head towards Elstree Studio's where The Big Brother House is so
don't forget lots of "AFC Wimbledon" Chants for the house mates. The
station on the following map is just to the left as you look but should
help. Click
here for map. |

18/07/2002 More From Mr Eames - Once again Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.What a Superb turn out last night, hope you enjoyed the SHOW. I hope you agree we are improving & that last night was a really good test. On the injury front Julian King will not be around for at least six weeks due to a suspected torn calf muscle. I felt there were so many positives out of the game not least Triggers Goal . keep up the support. Terry Eames

Bromley Round Up - I have put the photo's up here
but to be honest I was disappointed with them as I didn't have the
camera set up right, sorry. There were two injuries last night first
was player coach Julian King who it looks will be out for 6 weeks
with a torn calf after coming on as a sub. The other injury was to
a Bromley player and it looked like he dislocated his shoulder and
needed oxygen hope he gets better soon. The crowd was once again believed
to be in the region of 1300 so well done everyone. |

17/07/2002
Goals Trigger Burger Rush - Tonight we took on Bromley and
yet again we are getting better. We went 1-0 down following a suspect
penalty but in the second half leveled the score when Trigger scored,
OK want to hear about AFC Wimbledon's first allowed goal? Not from
me you wont I was busy getting a burger which I had waited for about
25 minutes for as I was starving when it was scored, stop laughing
at the back will you. The word is that Trigger lobbed the ball from
a good 30 yards. The celebrations were brilliant and half the fans
waiting for some food rushed to the side of the pitch. Bromley took
the lead again when our keeper dropped the ball but all the Dons fans
went home happy and bring on Boreham Wood on Saturday. So a 2-1 defeat
but once again a crowd in the region of 1,000 watched our club. Regarding
pictures these will be up on Thursday evening. |

16/07/2002

16/07/2002 A Word From The Boss - At lunchtime today I was just having a quick look round the net (as you do) and came across this message on Weird And Wonderful World.com from AFC Wimbledon's manager Terry Eames
Just a quick note to thank everybody for the support the players
are receiving , many have said it has been the highlight of there
lives. I know it has been hard for many of you to endure the numerous
changes I have made. But we are almost there now , so you will start
to see a consistency within the selection as well as finally a SIDE
to support. There have been many opinions on my selection policy -but
I have had to be quite critical in such a short space of time, so
we are ready for the start of the season. Thankyou once again for
all the support & lets keep showing that AFC Wimbledon is what footballs
all about.
Terry Eames
beleagured Manager - Tue Jul 16 12:35:44 2002 I thought that a lot of people may have missed it and was worth seeing. Good luck Terry it's nice to see you giving your views out there.

15/07/2002 Squad Cut Down In Size - I understand that following Saturday's game at Dulwich seven players were informed that they hadn't made it through the cut process and were no longer required. All goalkeepers are still be kept on to see how they do and all 10 outfield players from the first half are still with the squad as well as an additional 4 from the second half. More cuts will be made after the Bromley game on Wednesday night when the squad will almost be at it's optimum size. |

Dulwich Defeat - AFC Wimbledon lost 1-0 today against Dulwich
infront of just under 1,500 people. Once again it's still a learning
process and this game saw the Dons use 24 players the starting 11
were fully replaced and then in the second half 2 more subs were made.
Joe Sherrin and Dean Martin didn't play after they both picked up
slight knocks against Sutton. More details and photo's on Sunday.

12/07/2002 Bits and Bobs - Please try and get there early tomorrow if you are going as Dulwich do not have the biggest of grounds and so the full house signs could be up.
AFC Wimbledon has been transferred to the ownership of The
Dons Trust So anyone who is a member of the Dons Trust owns a
bit of the Club.
The Dons Trust has produced some AFC Wimbledon T-shirts that have
a list of the pre-season games on the back and the message I was there.
They are believed to be priced at about £7.00 and will be available
from the Wombulance that should be in the car park at Dulwich.

better have a look at it or he is likely to kick you out of home games

Crowds, A Great Night And We Didn't Even Win - Remember when
you were little and you woke up on Christmas day and although you
told everyone that it had been the best Christmas that you had ever
had but to be honest it hadn't been well that's how today had felt
like I really wanted today to just be a dream a new chapter of football
where people weren't fighting each other but just supporting something
that they had done for years, but I was just scared that it had been
over hyped or something wouldn't go right.
Well in the biggest possible style I was proved wrong and tonight
was just a dream night I got there just after 5pm and bumped into
Joe Sherrin and he was feeling nervous about the expected large crowd.
And already when I got to the ground people were working really hard
and the media had started to arrive. The Press Conference went really
well and then I walked outside to speak to a few people and the numbers
were starting to build up all the TV people wanted interviews with
Terry Eames but once he got training underway I went outside of the
ground and was just stunned by the numbers that were there. The game
was twice put back from the 7:30 start first to 7:45 then to 8:00
and the ground was just a sea of people. A group of us held up the
AFC Wimbledon flag Adults and Kids and took it out to the centre circle
and showed it to all parts of the ground the stadium was just buzzing.
Both teams joined together for a team picture and then just the AFC
lads. Balloons were released and the game was ready to start.
The game started and it was just so nice to watch we scored a goal
but it was ruled out for something and half time came and the score
were 0-0. In the second half Sutton ended up scoring four times to
win 4-0 but today the score didn't matter. At full time the Dons did
a lap of honor and ended up being a pitch invasion and as the approached
the main stand the who ground was on it's feet applauding it was a
night that none of us present will forget.
By the way I haven't mentioned the crowd as of yet well only 4,657
turned up don't think the AFC thing will catch on will it :)

09/07/2002 How To Get To Sutton - Due to the limited parking at Sutton United AFC Wimbledon asks that if possible you use public transport to get to Gander Green Lane on Wednesday evening. The easiest way to get there is by Train but you can also get there by bus or drive (if you really have to) the details are as follows:-Train
From Wimbledon the train departs from platform 9, this is a two way
platform (next to the tram link) so make sure you get the train that
is heading towards the stairs. The train will depart at the following
times and arrive at West Sutton at the shown time:-
DepartsÊÊ-ÊÊÊArrives 16:44ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ16:58 17:10ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ17:24 17:42ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ17:58 18:11ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ18:25 18:44ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ18:58 19:14ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÊÊÊÊ19:28

Leaflets and Training - Another crazy day today approximately
7,500 leaflets were handed out in Wimbledon this morning detailing
the pre season games and ticket prices for this season at AFC Wimbledon.
As ever we got a brilliant reception from everyone and a lot of people
said they planned to come down to some games.
After finishing in the town centre we went over to catch the end of
training as ever it seemed to have been a brilliant morning and the
players just want to get started now in playing games. Had a quick
word with Joe Sherrin and he said about how professional the training
and fitness work is, he has a slight knock but reckons he will bee
OK for Wednesday. |

Fixture News - The fixture list isn't released until next week
but a little bit of investigation can give you an idea of where we
are likely to be on certain dates.
As we are sharing with Kingstonians it means we cant play at home on the same day so this means the following: -AFC Wimbledon's first game will be away on August 17th, Our first home game could be midweek on 20th August 2002 and then again on 24th August 2002. On Boxing day we could well be at Home (Raynes Park Vale Derby anyone?) and we will be away if there is a New Years Day Game. Once the full list is announced I will post it on here. |

Trials Update - Thursday night saw another round of the trials
and the squad is beginning to take place. A couple of people that
made it through the round was Joe Sherrin and Dons fan Matty Burton
but the finish player didn't make it through. Matty Burton is a keeper
and it's believed that each of the keepers will play a part in the
first three pre season games Matty is due to play at Dulwich on Saturday
week. |

04/07/2002
Scary Thought - This time next week will be the day after AFC
Wimbledon's first game. I understand that tonight will see the final
cut of the players from the trials made, so hopefully in the next
few days we should have a squad list and maybe even a bit of background
information on these players. |

Site News - Well just to confirm the popularity of AFC Wimbledon
I was just checking my site Stats and was amazed to see that yesterday
1st July 2002 was the 2nd highest day of hits that the site has had,
now consider that the site has been up and running since 1999 and
the this is the close season it's totally unexpected. For the record
the highest day was 28/5/02 and we all know what happened then!
So can I just say a big thanks to everyone that reads the site and hope you enjoy the coverage of AFC Wimbledon. |
