Golden Goal Tickets - For people who don't know about Golden
Goal this is the a chance to win money on the first two goals in the
match. After the first two weeks we have made a few changes to the
game to give everyone a fair chance of winning.
If you pick out a ticket that has a defender on it rather than getting just one minute of time for your player to score you will now get 4 minutes (the time will be listed on the ticket.)
If the winning ticket isn't sold or isn't claimed the winnings will
be split 50/50 on the nearest goal either side of the goal time. For
example if it was player 8 on 13 minutes and that isint claimed we
will pay out £50 to 8 12 and 8 14.
Quick reminder of the rules ticket cost £1 prize of £100 for first
goal £25 for second goal. Player number is for either side.
All money raised goes to the Dons Trust and will more than likely
go towards the Ground Fund. |
|
30/08/2002 Team News - Couple of changes for the team on Saturday look likely. We have signed a new keeper namely Glyn Shimmel who was in goal against us in the game against Bromley and also the return of Tony Readings in defence after he missed the last few due to his head injury at the Sandhurst game. |
|
29/08/2002
Hartley Wintney In The House - On Saturday we could have a
rare sight at an AFC Wimbledon game at K's the word is that Hartley
Wintney will be bringing 2 coaches of supporters. I am sure they will
enjoy the AFC Wimbledon experience but lets hope not to much.

Season Ticket & Shirt Sales - Season Tickets keep going from
strength to strength and today the total number sold was 1,342. That
is an incredible figure and the applications are still coming in.
The first batch of new shirts have arrived with other batches on order.
The first 300 will be handed out on Saturday to the first 300 people
that ordered and if they are not there and asked for them to be sent
to them that will happen early next week. If you ordered your shirt
as soon as they were made available you will be in with a chance of
getting it on Saturday. The club hopes to put a list up on the official
site on Friday of the people who can pick up there shirts.

Venues For Upcoming Games - Just advance warning for people
planning to travel to our next two away games. The Southall game will
be played at Chalfont St Peters ground and the game against Withdean
2000 will be played at Worthing rather than the Withdean stadium that
had been rumored but it's still a day at the seaside.
The gates at Southall will bee open from 5pm and the word is that
as well as a beer tent being available there will also bee a Curry
area at decent prices so if you fancy a beer and curry get to the
game early. |

Dons Trust Founder Member Mark Reached - When the Dons Trust
was launched they introduced a founders member pack and set the mark
at 1889 the year that Wimbledon were formed and in 6 months that number
has now been reached and passed. The figure is now at 1924 and we
are the biggest Trust in the country. Just because we have reached
that mark the trust doesn't stop trying to recruit new members. If
you haven't joined visit the Website at http://www.thedonstrust.org/.

Andy Hunt Interview - I know it's a bad time to publish an
interview with Andy Hunt who is now in goal for Ash United but he
was our keeper in the first half against Sutton United. I sent him
the question a few weeks back and he responded so I have put the answers
up I hope you enjoy it. And to Andy Hunt who I know reads the site
best of luck for the season mate.

Brentford Vs Swindon - After watching the game at Ash three
of us got in the car and went off to Brentford Vs Swindon. Both of
these teams have supported us really well over the past year and it
was a chance to say thanks to both clubs. We met with Brentford fan
Luke at the pub and they suggested going onto the away terrace so
the flag could be displayed.
We put the flag up and started to get a few nod's of appreciation
from the traveling Swindon fans. The game was really good and Brentford
were 2-1 up at half time. At half time a statement was made about
how Brentford needed to raise another £500,000 in 4 weeks to buy Ron
Noades out and then the guy making the statement asked everyone in
the ground to look to the open terrace to see the "magnificent supporters
and flag" from AFC Wimbledon the whole ground applauded and he added
that he didn't want either Swindon or Brentford to end up going down
the same route as us.
Brentford won the game 3-1 and we went back to the pub for a brilliant
evening. Next Sunday 1st September Brentford fans are having a fund
raiser at Griffin Park with a fans match kick off 12:00 it would be
nice if a number of Dons fans could be there. |

26/08/2002
2 Penalty's, 2 Sending Offs & 5 Goals - An early start today
with the 11:30 kick off but a game that had almost everything except
3 points for us! The only change for the team was Lee Passmore in
for Simon Bassey. There were some brilliant moves in the first half
and we had the better chances but Ash were a tough team and knew how
to challenge for the ball.
In the second half we took the lead when Kevin cooper ran through and managed to slot the ball past Andy Hunt (who had been in goal at the Sutton game for the Dons). We soon went into a two goal lead when we were awarded a penalty after Andy hunt bought down Joe Sheerin, in my opinion it wasn't a penalty as the ball was going out of play and Joe wouldn't have got to it but Kevin Cooper stepped up for his second of the day.
We were now coasting it but then the game changed when Keith Ward
became the first AFC Wimbledon player to be sent off in a game for
handball on the line. This was up the other end so I could see if
it was the right decision but a penalty was awarded and scored and
we were down to 10 men. Ash then pushed forward and soon leveled the
score with a looping header that went over Andy Bell.
With the Dons stretched and no defender on the bench Ash took the
lead when a shot went in off the post. Then in the final minutes Ash
had a player sent off for a second bookable offense for an off the
ball incident. After the game there was a lot of talk about the ref
and that he had a poor game but the sending off changed the result
in my opinion. Ash also are one of the strongest sides we will play
so we shouldn't be to disappointed. |

26/08/2002 Team News and Live Updates - I would imagine once again we will start with the same team as the last two games as Tony Readings is still out but could be back at the weekend. Added to the squad is Mehmet Mehmet he looked good in pre-season so it will be nice to see him come on at some point in the game. Ash finished 2nd last season and only lost 4 games and so far this season have won all three so this will be a real test for us.

Travel To Ash - Don't forget kick off is 11:30am and you will
once again need your vouchers - Right by train it's very much like
the trip to Sandhurst and the easiest way is as follows: -
8:55 or 9:25 from Wimbledon to Guildford then the 9:15 or 9:37 to
Ash and that arrives at 10:07 or 10:22 from then you can see the train
station on the right of the following map. The ground is in Youngs Drive in the centre of the page.If going by road the following was posted on the WISA site.
For those of us traveling from SW19 by road, the most direct route
is not as stated in y&b. Instead take the A3 to Guildford, bear left
onto the A31 Hogsback, signed for Aldershot and Farnham, then after
approx. six miles take the junction onto the A331 Blackwater Valley
Relief Road. Turn off at the next junction, turning right onto the
A323 Ash Road. Take a left at the first roundabout, with The Greyhound
Public House on the corner. This is Shawfield Road. About 200 yards
on your left is ample parking at the sports ground and school aprox
5 minute walk down Shawfield Road to the ground. Youngs Drive home
of Ash United is further down on the left. On-street parking is in
the estate on the right, NOT in Youngs Drive, please. Beware, local
residents get very upset about blocked drives and parking on the kerb
and parking tickets are regularly given out. Additional parking is
available off the A321 Ash Hill Road, at the end of Shawfield Road,
turn right at the roundabout under the railway bridge. Look out for
signs. Due to the difficulty of parking, it is advisable to get there
early |
|
25/08/2002 Morden Lions Fair - For people not going to the Ash game on Monday or back early from it The Dons Trust will be at Morden Lions Fair that takes place at Morden Park between the hours of 11:00 and 5:00. They will be pleased to see everyone so pop along if you get a chance. |

Thanks To Brighton Fans - Just like to say a big thanks to
the 50 or so Brighton Fans that came to the Cove game on Saturday
and it was really nice to see the Dons players all go over at the
end of the game and applaud them. To see some brilliant pictures from
a Brighton point of view check here.

25/08/2002
Mad 2 Minutes And A Late Show - I arrived at the ground at
about 11:45 and amazed to see about 50 people at the turnstiles already
including a number of Brighton fans who had made the trip. I was going
to be selling golden goal tickets and a big Thankyou to everyone who
purchased them and I hope whoever had the winner bought it from me
:)
The team was unchanged from midweek and although not as many people
as Wednesday night a healthy crowd of 3,300 saw them take to the pitch.
The first half was very flat and Cove took the lead from a set piece
just after the half hour mark. We were attacking the covered end in
the second half and everyone really got behind the boys about 10 minutes
into the half Lee Passmore who had come on for Simon Bassey at half
time put us level and the ground went wild. Cove kicked off and went
straight up the other end, Andy Bell was caught out of position and
Cove took the lead again. It was our turn to kick off and we went
straight on the attack we had a couple of chances and then Neil Robson
had a shot from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner
to again level the scores this time at 2-2. We had now seen 3 goals
in 2 minutes and a number of people had missed all of them as they
were still in the bar.
We continued to attack looking for the winner and we were well in
control off the game now. Kevin Cooper had a golden opportunity to
score with a header but this went wide from point blank range. Then
with just a few minutes remaining Lee Sidwell cut in from the wing
and fired home to put us 3-2 up the players went mental and rushed
to the "west bank" to celebrate with the fans. We still had chances
but stayed 3-2 up for our first home win of the season. The players
came over to celebrate with the fans and Terry Eames did a "Dance
Routine".
Don't ask why but I left the ground with loads of other at about 9pm
after a few drinks with Kevin Cooper and a few of the other players.
This club is so special it's unreal.
There was a lot of talk after the game over who people thought was man of the match so now is your chance to vote. Due to the bank holiday I will keep this one open until Tuesday 8:00pm and then launch the Ash one. Click below to vote.

They all said about how brilliant the set up was and how the fans
had done so well to get it up and running. Terry Eames didn't speak
to the press following the game but Andy Bell the keeper said "he
had let the team down with the soft goal" you can read more of what

A Brilliant Night But Not The Result - A night when about 500
fans were locked out of our first game, a night when old and new heroes
were about, a night of smiles all round, a night when Chipstead came
to town and spoilt the party. I arrived at the ground at 5:00 and
people were already waiting to get into the ground and then people
just came and came once again the kick off had to be put back 30 minutes
and a full house of 4,215 were inside the ground.
Chipstead took the lead after about 15
minutes but it looked like there attacker was offside but the goal
was given. 10 minutes before the end of the half Kevin Cooper pulled
the scores level when he shot from the edge of the box. We had chances
in the 2nd half but just couldn't find it and then with a couple of
minutes to go Chipstead scored from a corner and they went home with
the points.
The man of the match vote is now open
and you can vote by clicking below.
I will put up more information and photos
tonight. |

20/08/2002 Wednesday Night At Kingstonians - First of all the directions Directions To Kingstonians - A route I am sure that most people
know and if you don't know it you will by the end of the season.
By Bus you can get a 131 from the bus stop down the side of
the road that the Prince Of Wales pub is on in Wimbledon. The bus
stops right outside the ground.
By Train you need to go to Norbiton and the walk the back streets
its about a 10 minute walk. See the map here.
By Car check the directions out here
although there is a car park at the ground it is likely to be full
early in the evening with a big crowd expected, so you may need to
find street parking which could be difficult.
Wednesday nights game is likely to be a sell out and no tickets are
available in advance so it a case of get there as soon as you can.
The doors will open at 6:30 and the capacity has been limited to 4,125.
In the letter sent to all season ticket holders the following was
said.
Please don't run on the pitch during or after the game. I know
it's easy to get carried away, but if you do run on the pitch, we
are likely to be fined or, even worse, have points deducted..
Please don't change ends at half time if it leads to heavy crowding.
Remember that there are kids in the crowd and we need them to see
the game safely.
Please don't drink alcohol (or anything in a glass, can or glass
bottle) in view of the pitch.

20/08/2002 Terry Eames Says - You know the drill but here goes Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.
Just a little note to thank you all for the fantastic support on
Saturday - I felt so proud being associated with the club let alone
Managing it. I know the performance was just average (could do better).
But I feel it was all about the day - the start of the journey . But
what a start 'Breaking' attendance records as we go - the reception
the players & myself received brought a 'Tear' to my eye. I thought
the omens weren't going to be in our favour at first though -the coach
driver lost his way & Joe Sherrin pulled out at the last minute. Finally
on a personal note - I must've got up the gremlin that is Reg Davis
nose - they have taken me out of the 1977 Team Picture. Isn't it FANTASTIC
to see them squirm at what we are achieving.

Ardley Wishes Us Well - On Soccernet today was the following:
-
Ardley backs stay-away Dons fans
Neal Ardley has backed Wimbledon's stay-away fans for deserting the club in protest
at the move to Milton Keynes. The 29-year-old midfielder lined up
against his old teammates for Watford at the weekend after being released
this summer.
Ardley spent 12 years with Wimbledon before being forced to
move on by a cash crisis at the club. But he backed the Dons fans who turned their back on the club
to form rival outfit AFC Wimbledon of the Combined Counties
League.
He said: `The fans did a good thing when they did that. They
weren't treated well last season and they weren't happy with it
so I wish them good luck.' Ardley had the last laugh on his old club when Watford won 3-2
at Vicarage Road.

Tony Readings Injury Update - On Sunday night I received the
following e-mail regarding Tony Readings.
He had 7 stitches after a local. Stitches will come out in 5 days, is rated
unlikely for Saturday, Doctor (if requested by Physio) will take a look on
Wednesday (stitches might come out) Rated doubtful for Sat. Could be back
for following Wednesday, although all depends on how well the cut has healed
and whether any damage could be sustained in heading the ball.
I am sure that we all wish Tony the best and hope to see him back soon. |

in traveling to the Bank Holiday Monday game at Ash United.
Please note that at this stage this is only an inquiry and I don't
have details of cost or departure times but people that are interested
we will contact with this information as well as posting it on here.

17/08/2002
Victory In First Game - The Dons started the season in style
in front of a new league record crowd of 2,449. As the sun shone down
Sandhurst was greeted by a sea of yellow T-shirts. The Dons started
the match and took the lead through Kevin Cooper and shortly afterwards
went 2-0 up through Keith Ward. Just before half time Sandhurst pulled
a goal back when a brilliant shot was saved by Andy Bell but it spun
up in the air and a Sandhurst player scored from close range.
In the second half the dons had a number of chances but couldn't find
the back of the net. 9 minutes of injury time was played following
a nasty clash of head resulted in Tony Readings needing 9 stitches
in the cut. A few nervous moments were in store as we awaited the
final whistle but we held on or a 2-1 victory and scenes of jubilation
as the players were cheered off the park. |

Requests For Today - OK couple of requests and tips for today.
1) And the main one please stay off the pitch, I know that pitch invasions
are always done in fun but if we do them during the league season
we could well get fined or points deducted so no more please. 2) It's
going to be Hot Hot Hot today and Sandhurst doesn't have any/very
little shade so take a hat and also try some sun cream. 3) Last and
not least VOUCHERS don't forget them as if you do you wont get in,
if you still want to go but don't have one you could try and pick
one up outside Wimbledon Theater between 11:00 to 12:00 and there
may be a few at the Wombulance at Sandhurst. |

16/08/2002 T'was the Night Before Christmas -
It was the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads;
And Mama in her kerchief and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his reindeer they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer!, Now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!, On, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the housetop the reindeer they flew,
With a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, too.
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The prancing of reindeer and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk,
And laying a finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
" Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" |

16/08/2002 Message To The Staff Of AFCW -To Kris, Ivor, JZ, Trevor, Lou and everyone else behind the scenes at AFC Wimbledon I can never say thanks enough for what you have done.
On 28/5 I said I wouldn't support another team but would continue
to watch Football and then I heard about AFCW and thought sounds good
but will it work? I couldn't commit myself to it then I went to Mitcham
Fair and began to see what it was all about spoke to Ivor and told
him I wasn't sure about it he said he would talk to me and all I can
say is I am pleased he did.
Wimbledon Village Fair followed and The Rymans say no night but while
most people would have given up the above battled on and got us a
place in the CCL.
Then came Sutton game and I will put that in my top 5 events as a football fan a night of pride and a day that couldn't have got any better.Tomorrow sees the league start and 10 weeks ago this seemed impossible but we are here now.So once again thanks and let the show begin.Paul R http://www.itmustbedons.com |

Photo's And More News From Enfield Town Game - As said before
it was a brilliant night and started well before the game when I was
introduced to Darren Langley our Silver medal winner at the commonwealth
games. Had a quick word with Darren and he said it was the first game
he had been at as he was only released from commonwealth games duty
on Sunday night. He will be at one of the first AFC Wimbledon games
and he is a real top guy. He showed his medal off to everyone. On
the way home he was on our tube so we got in his carriage as no one
would mess with him. I spoke to him about what's next and in the next
six months he has the English Championships and also the Worlds so
expect to see a lot of our Darren. I asked him what he hoped in advance
of the commonwealth games and he said a bronze would of been brilliant
he added that them semi was incredible and he just ran out of steam
in the final. I told him about watching it in Leatherhead and he seemed
proud and shocked about it.
So you want to see the photo's? OK try the following link and it includes
one of Darren and medal. To view click Here.

13/08/2002 Words From Mr Eames - You know the drill but here goes Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.
What a fantastic feeling winning the 'Cup' last night& what timing
just before the first league game. I know I keep saying this but our
support is 'IMMENSE'. Saturday couldn't come quicker for me. I know
it's been hard for you to put up with some of the 'Strange' performances
& the decisions I have been making & appreciate the backing I've received
from everybody . I can assure you that was required to get to the
foundation that I feel showed for much of the game last night. SEE
YOU SATURDAY

when you do an update at 00:15 after our first win :) even the webmaster
of the Sandhurst site pointed it out to me. Another time change could
be for the Ash United game. Reports suggest that it could be a 11:30am
kick off once I know for sure I will confirm here. |

And The Winners Of The 2002 Supporters Direct Trust Cup Are -
AFC WIMBLEDON
Yes tonight AFC Wimbledon got there first every victory and it was 3-2 against Enfield Town. The game was watched by 561 spectators and was very enjoyable. Joe Sheerin set the Dons on there way when he finished from close range after about 5 minutes this was after a good cross from Andy Sullivan.
Our second goal was a cracking finish from Kevin Cooper and it was
so nice to see. The dons went in at half time at 2-0 and all was looking
good. At half time we made a few changes Joe Sheerin went off and
on came Lee Sidwell as well as a few other players. About 10 minutes
into the second half Enfield pulled one back but within a couple of
minutes Lee Sidwell scored to put us 3-1 up. But with 10 minutes to
go Enfield Town scored again and we were in for a close finish. We
managed to hold on and the scenes at the final whistle were just brilliant.
AFC had there first win and a trophy as well. Pictures and more tomorrow

Media Round Up - Although we don't have a game this weekend
the media interest in us is still continuing In today's Sun
Newspaper they have done a comparison of AFC Wimbledon and Wimbledon
FC this includes player profiles of Dave Fry against Neil Shipperley,
it makes interesting reading. BBC TV had a feature on Newsnight on
Friday evening and also AFC Wimbledon are covered on Football Focus
today. Tonight's news bulletin should also cover news of AFC Wimbledon
as Gillingham are at Selhurst today and the Crowd could be interesting
to say the least. |

09/08/2002 Terry's View On The Game - Once again Terry Eames has posted his thoughts on Weird And Wonderful World.com so here is how he saw it.
Just a little message to all - I know the results have been disappointing
, but I promise you this will be rectified. Jonesy I can assure you
I have left message after message for Carl Leaburn but have received
no reply perhaps he feels it is not the right time. I am still very, very
confident of a Bloody good season -further more Jonesy no one wants
a more settled set-up than myself, this will come - so be patient
it ain't as if it's November. Then I wouldn't expect to be in the
job. So keep faith in what we have got, we will succeed.
Terry Eames

to the question there are two answers 1) purchase the youngster a
Junior Season Ticket at only £25.00 it will be a big saving if they
go to more than half the games. 2) They could pre-join the Junior
Dons Trust cost is £10.00 and they would need to send there details
including evidence of age to The
Dons Trust. Please remember that Dons Trust Members are not guaranteed a voucher for the game. |

05/08/2002 Leatherhead Say Thanks - AFC Wimbledon today got the following e-mail of thanks from the Chairman of Leatherhead FC so I thought I would post it here: -Dear WomblesI would like to thank all of the AFCW fans who came to Fetcham Grove for the way they supported their team and the contribution of £1000 that Leatherhead and AFC Wimbledon have been able to make to The Childhood Cancer Parent Association at the Royal Marsden Hospital. As I said on the Tannoy after the game your supporters did your Club proud.
We have been following your matches and there is no doubt that game
by game your team is getting better. Today we had the rub of the green
(no pun intended) but it does help when the vast majority of your
side have played together in the previous campaign. Two years ago
we went through a similar process of having to build a side from nothing
(but without the pressure of so many supporters) and it does takes
time to build a team from scratch. We know Terry Eames very well as
a player and manager at Leatherhead and with his past connections
at Wimbledon I am sure you could not have found a better man to run
your team.
Terry seemed to be very upset at this afternoon's result so please give him your wholehearted support at the next game. He is taking on a very hard job but you have such huge resources that I am sure that Terry and the Wombles will succeed.Good luck to you all for 2002-3.Tim Edwards - Chairman Leatherhead FC |

04/08/2002
Meet The Players Day - Today was a chance to meet a few of
the players away from a football pitch and also for AFCW to unveil
another sponsorship deal. The events took place mainly in Centre Court
Shopping Centre but the players also visited Specsavers down the Broadway,
all the players managed to find it so their eyesight cant be that
bad!
Before the players arrived it was the usual handing out leaflets and
spreading the word of AFC and as ever it got a brilliant response.
I wandered down to Specsavers and it was nice to see that about 10
of the players had made it along including Akin Gallimore who got
injured yesterday. After the players had been checked out we all wandered
off to Center Court and there was a large crowd in attendance mainly
in the now trademark Yellow "I Was There" Shirts.
Commercial Director Ivor was The MC for the afternoon and after thanking
everyone for turning up he told us about AFC Wimbledon's latest Commercial
Partner and that was Powerade who will be the Official
Sports Drink supplier. A representative of Powerade was present and
they had bought a long a supply of the drinks for anyone to try.
Ivor then got Terry Eames to add a few words and then he passed the
mic to a few of the players. The players all made the same comments
of just how they were so grateful for the support that we have been
giving them and that they all know we will start winning soon. Kris
Stewart was then asked to introduce each member of the team and it
was funny when he could name about half of them. From what I can remember
the following players were in attendance: -
Joe Sheerin, Andy Bell, Akin Gallimore, Simon Johnston, Dave Towse,
Andy Sullivan, Craig Carley, David Fry, Daniel Couch, Daniel Jones,
Dean Martin, Carlo Castronovo, Andy Ferguson, Chris Theodore. (If
I have missed anyone out I'm sorry). The floor was then made open
to the supporters to mix with the players and it was a chance for
photo's and autographs. Can I just say the players were brilliant
and when you consider that they all have jobs like us during the week
to give up the whole of there weekend is just so nice to see. It was
almost 3pm before the players departed and it was so relaxed.
I managed to grab a few words with Dean Martin and asked him about
his injury he said that he would be back in training this week and
should be back very soon. I took a few pictures and these can be seen
here.

will be in Wimbledon today for a meet the players session. From 12:00

a few autographs and photos. Also if you are a season ticket holder
you can pick up your Sandhurst vouchers. |
|
03/08/2002 Defeat At Leatherhead - This afternoon we lost 2-0 at Leatherhead but once again it was a very close game. Just before the end of the first half we got a penalty and Andy Sullivan stepped up to take it but the keeper managed to save it and then the rebound was put wide.In the second half Leatherhead took the lead when an unlucky deflection was put past the keeper for an own goal and then very soon afterwards Leatherhead went 2-0 up and the game was over. We had a few chances with the best being for David Fry but he took it wide and his effort hit the side netting.A couple of injuries to report from the game first Joe Sherrin went off after he felt a tightness in his hamstring. The big injury of the game was Akin Gallimore who could well have a broken rib and was taken off to hospital by ambulance. A few players were away on holidays that had been booked before AFC were set up so yet again we were not at full strength. |

Silver For Darren - Congratulations To Darren Langley who today
won a Silver Medal at the commonwealth games. Darren will more than
likely be disappointed as he went into the final round 5 points up
but he seemed to run out of steam and in the end lost by a couple
of points. In the Club House of Leatherhead loads of AFCW fans sat
round a TV cheering Darren on and although hoping for Gold we were
proud of him. Lets hope he comes on the pitch at one of our games
so we can congratulate him in person. |

Division Gold and Silver Medal fight. The fight will be live on BBC

|
02/08/2002 Next Two Game's Trophy's Up For Grabs - Saturday's game at Leatherhead is for the Maureen Wooldridge Memorial Trophy. Maureen Wooldridge was the mother of the Leatherhead programme editor in season 2000/2001, Robert Wooldridge. She died of cancer in 1995 and the match for the memorial trophy helps raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital who looked after her.
I am sure most people know about the Marsden so if you see a collection
bucket for them chuck a few coins in it.
Next Thursday we visit Edgware Town to play Wealdstone and the following is a press release from Wealdstone that I think you will all like.
STONES v DONS CLASH FOR BATSFORD SHIELD
Newly formed AFC Wimbledon can pick up their first silverware when
they take on Wealdstone for The Allen Batsford Shield on Thursday
August 8 at Edgware Town FC, Kickoff 7.45pm.
Legendary manager Batsford will be the guest of honour
at the match, having enjoyed highly successfully spells in charge
of both clubs in the past. After guiding Wimbledon to three successive
Southern League Championships from 1974/5 and a place in the Football
League, he switched to Wealdstone in 1980, with whom he won further
Southern League honours in 1981/82. Batsford also holds the distinction
of being the only manager to have won the Southern League (now Dr
Martens) double with two different clubs."I had really good times
at both clubs and am really looking forward to seeing a few old faces,"
said Batsford, 70. "They were magic times really."

this time the London Senior Cup - The story is that all clubs that
have senior status in the London FA are entered for this cup but some
teams are seeded. Some more well known teams either play reserve teams

round we have been drawn home to Brimsdown Rovers if we win that the 2nd round
will be home to Woodford and in the 3rd round could be at home to either
