31/10/2001 Republic Of Ireland Play-off News - The Republic Of Ireland will play Iran over two legs for a place in the 2002 world cup finals. The first leg takes place on November 10th and therefore Kenny Cunningham and David Connolly who have both been selected in the squad will miss the game on the Friday evening against Sheffield United. As the second leg takes place 5 days latter they may also miss the trip to Barnsley as the second leg is in Iran. |

Bradford Reaction - OK another cracking game but also a game
we should have had sown up before Bradford came back into it. Although
David Connolly scored two brilliant goals he also missed two gilt
edge chances to put us even more ahead. I also think along with most
of the other Wimbledon fans that made the trip that Connolly was fouled
just before they got their third. Andy Myers challenged for the ball
and then pushed Connolly in the face after all the talk earlier in
the week about raised hands and refs it was disappointing that no
action was taken and then to see them go up the other end of the pitch
and score just summed it up. |
|
31/10/2001 Pre Halloween Horror - Might be the wrong time to talk about this after just getting back from Bradford (02:45) but twice we were ahead by 2 goals tonight and still only got a point! Two goals from David Connolly including another direct from a free kick and a cracking 35 yarder from Kevin Cooper saw us go in 3-1 up at half time but once again the other side came back. The Man Of The Match vote for the Bradford Game is now open please click below to vote. |

31/10/2001 Rotherham Man Of The Match Result - The result is as follows: - Jobi McAnuff 5 votes 45% Darren Holloway 2 votes 18% Kenny Cunningham 1 vote 9% Neil Shipperley 1 vote 9% Kevin Cooper 1 vote 9% Par Karlsson 1 vote 9% |

29/10/2001
Lionel For England - After a frustrating start to the season
that saw Lionel Morgan get injured and miss out on first team football
he has had some good news. Lionel has been selected in a 23 man squad
for an important 3 team mini tournament that will see the winners
take a step closer to next years Under 19's European Championship.
The other countries involved are Georgia and Hungary with matches
being played at York City and Barnsley FC |
|
29/10/2001
Early Team News - It Looks like Jermaine Darlington will miss
the game on Tuesday night at Bradford after going off injured towards
the end of the game at Rotherham on Saturday. This could see Peter
Hawkins come in at Left Back for him. Don't forget Tickets at Bradford
are only £5.00 for adults and £1.00 for Kids. |
|
29/10/2001
Another Player On Trial - Nigerian forward Ben Mbemba has apparently
joined us on trial from Anderlecht. It was reported that he would
be going to Luton but it appears that we may have stepped in at the
last minute. |
|
28/10/2001 Player Departures? - The Nationwide site is reporting that Michael Hughes could well be on his way to reduce the wage bill. It reports that West Brom and Preston could come in to buy him. It also says that Kenny Cunningham could be on his way! On a personal note I could understand Michael Hughes going but Kenny would be a huge loss. |
|
27/10/2001
*** TERRY BURTON SET TO LEAVE? *** - Only a rumors at this
stage but coming back on the coach from Rotherham it appears that
a meeting will take place on Sunday between Terry Butron and Charles
Koppel. This follows our 3-2 defeat at Rotherham after being 2-0 up.
Terry mentioned earlier in the season that he had thought about leaving
the job and this time it may happen. Terry was only saying in the
paper today that he is the 9th longest serving manager in the first
division. I may have all this wrong and it could be a case of asking
for money to buy a new player but it seems strange that this sort
of meeting would be made because of this. As soon as I have any additional
information the site will of course be updated. |

Revenge of Frankinstein's Monster and Man Of The Match Vote -
So where do I start? I could start by saying we scored from a free-kick
to take the lead via the boot of David Connolly and then go on and
talk about Jobi's first senior goal for the club to put us 2-0 up
within the first 10 minutes but you should all know the result by
now and would think well how did this escape from us? The only way
I can explain it was it was role reversal of us 10 years ago Rotherham
loaded the box with long throws headers and battling for every ball
at half time we could of easily been 5-2 down but through being determined
Rotherham got back into the game first from a long throw and the ball
bundled over the line and then Mark Robins scored a penalty. (Yes
it was given away by Holloway but lets not make him a scapegoat).
In the second half we were a bit more in the game but Rotherham took
the lead with 15 minutes to go and we only looked like getting back
into the game once Shipperley came on for Wu Tang who had started
in his place. Yes we had chances to level it up but nothing came up
of them. In my Opinion I thought it was a great game of football and
well done Rotherham just hope we learn something from this. The Poll for Rotherham Man Of The Match is now up and running the vote will stay open until the early hours of Wednesday morning once I return from Bradford. Please click below to vote.

Rotherham Game Team News - Once again it looks like the starting
11 will be unchanged the only change that may happen could see Darren
Holloway replaced by Peter Hawkins. |

26/10/2001
Injury Update - At the club Shop in Wimbledon I spoke to Mark
Williams who was one of four players that came down so that young
fans could meet the players, the others being Paul Heald, Rob Geir,
and Jobi McAnuff also in attendance was Wandle and an enjoyable time
was had by all. I spoke to Mark about his injury and he said that
he was just getting back into doing some light strength work at the
David Lloyd centre he hopes to be back training within the next few
weeks and plans to be back in action round about the Wolves game on
24th November. |
|
25/10/2001
Supporters Trust Meeting - The supporters Trust meeting was
a very good success tonight but the highlight was the news that Safeways
and Merton Council will announce a joint press release in the next
few days saying that Plough lane will be cleaned up and Safeways may
consider a Football Stadium being built on the site!!.
|
|
25/10/2001
Another Don Heads North - After his successful spell at Stenhousemuir
Wimbledon Defender Simon Mensing has signed for Clyde due to them having a defender
crisis. I understand that when Simon was on loan before as Stenhousemuir
only train a couple of days a week he would train with Clyde the rest
of the week. I wish him all the best and hope it goes well for him.
|
|
25/10/2001
Trust Meeting - Tonight sees a meeting about the possibility
of setting up a Supporters Trust for Wimbledon. (For more information

|
24/10/2001 And The Run Continues - Cast your mind back to September 23rd 1997 can you remember what happened? No well this was the last time that Wimbledon won a midweek league game at Selhurst Park. The opponents on that day were Barnsley and at half time we were 1-0 down and the players went off to a chorus of boo's from the Homesdale but second half we came out and won the match 4-1. This was also a game where an ex Wimbledon Manager had a go at the fans and a Player said a few choice words. Why am I mentioning this well the run continues tonight after a 1-0 defeat against Coventry. A game where a draw would have been the fair result with not many chances taken but a late goal saw the points go to Coventry. |
|
24/10/2001 Gillingham Man Of The Match Result - Congratulations to Jobi who won the vote for the Gillingham game the full result is as follows: - Jobi McAnuff 18 votes 60% Kevin Cooper 6 votes 20% Wayne Brown 3 votes 10% Michael Hughes 2 votes 7% Kenny Cunningham 1 vote 3% The vote for the Coventry game is now open. Please click below to vote. |
|
24/10/2001
Tonight's Team News - I am not aware of any new Injured players
or any that are back so I would imagine that we will have the same
team as we did against Gillingham at the weekend. |

Half Term Fun - As this week is Half Term week a number of
Wimbledon players will be in the Town Centre on Thursday afternoon
and will be making a visit to the Club Shop in the Broadway I will

Wandle in Kingston as it will be out and about to meet shoppers.

|
22/10/2001
Reserve Round Up - The dons had a 2-2 draw with Ipswich at
Kingstonians tonight. The Dons went behind but drew level before half
time although both Paul Robinson and Adam Nowland may try and claim
the goal as it got a huge deflection. The teams went in level and
at the start of the second half Rob Geir put the Dons ahead via a
corner but almost straight away Ipswich leveled a good save by Shane
Gore was followed up by an Ipswich player. One spectator in the crowd
was ex Womble Jason Euell nice to see him their. |
|
22/10/2001 Bradford Ticket News - Some brilliant news for the match next Tuesday at Bradford. The price of tickets has been reduced from £19 for adults to £5.00 and Kids will get in for £1.00. Anyone that has got a ticket can get a refund from the ticket office. On the subject of Tickets Rotherham on Saturday is all ticket but you will be able to pay on the night at Bradford. |
|
21/10/2001 Monday Night Reserves - The reserves play Ipswich at Kingstonians on Monday night kick off 7:30. The team should be a strong one with the likes of Damien Francis, Lionel Morgan, Rob Geir and Peter Hawkins all on display. |
|
21/10/2001
Gillingham Round Up - Soccernet's report starts as follows
"Wimbledon bounced back after their 4-0 defeat by landlords Crystal
Palace with their best home result since the opening day" and can
be read by here.
This Is London web site says "Wimbledon finally secured their second
home win of the season as they beat struggling Gillingham 3-1 at Selhurst
Park." And can be read here
but you will need to select Wimbledon in the drop down box.
|
|
21/10/2001 Another setback for Gareth - With Gareth Ainsworth still out injured it's been announced that on Monday he will have another operation to sort the problem out. It is hoped that once this operation has been done it shouldn't be to long before he is back in action. |
|
20/10/2001 Super Cooper Goals Are Kind Of Blinding - The Dons returned to winning ways today thanks to 2 goals from Kevin Cooper and the third from Michael Hughes. Gillingham had been reduced to 10 men but the result was settled before this. |

20/10/2001 Crystal Palace Man Of The Match Result - The result is as follows: - Andy Roberts 5 votes 33% Patrick Agyemang 2 votes 13% Kenny Cunningham 2 votes 13% Michael Hughes 1 vote 7% Neil Shipperley 1 vote 7% Par Karlsson 1 vote 7% Kelvin Davis 1 vote 7% Paul Robinson 1 vote 7% Jobi McAnuff 1 vote 7% A new vote will open after the Gillingham game. |
|
19/10/2001 New Kit On Sale On Saturday - The new away kit (yellow) and goalkeeper's away kit (Black and Yellow) goes on Sale on Saturday morning I look forward to seeing you in the Selhurst shop if you are going to the Gillingham Game. |
|
19/10/2001
Gillingham Game Team News - David Connolly should return to
the team for Saturday's side after his one match ban for his sending
off at the West Brom game. I would imagine that the rest of the team
will be the same as last week except David replacing Patrick Agyemang.
Although a number of players made appearances for the reserves on
Wednesday night I would imagine that they would get another run out
on Tuesday night against Ipswich Reserves (at Kingstonians) before
making any sort of first team return. |
|
19/10/2001 Kimble Injury Set Back - One of the many players that is currently injured is Dons left back Alan Kimble. It looks like he could be out for longer than planned with the news that he will need an operation. Terry Burton talking on ESPN site said "We thought it was less serious but it has become inflamed and we don't expect him for a while now. It's a blow because he's a good player, but he's just one of several important people I can't pick at the moment and we'll have to cope." |
|
18/10/2001 Damien's Return and Reserve Round Up - Tonight the reserves lost 4-1 at Watford after being 1-0 up to a Paul Robinson Penalty but the highlight for the Dons fans was the return of Damien Francis who played for about the last 20 minutes. It was a very tuff game in difficult conditions but one player that stood out for us was Lionel Morgan who was also returning from injury, he won us the penalty a bit against the run of play. We were 1-0 up at Half Time but Watford changed things at the break and came out really strong in the second half. |
|
17/10/2001
Bench Start For Damien - In tonight's reserve game I understand
that Damien Francis will start the game on the bench but will put
in an appearance for a fair part of the game. I will be making the
trip to Watford and will report on how the game goes and also how
Damien gets on. |
|
16/10/2001
Not Much Going On - Ian Feuer Played for Derby last night in
their 3-1 defeat against Spurs on Monday night but apparently played
very well. The Club's official web site has confirmed that Damien
has been named in a 16 man squad for the trip to Watford reserves
on Wednesday night. Their are 5 games in the Nationwide Division One
tonight I will update the table after they have been completed.
|
|
15/10/2001 Ian Feuer On Loan - At the end of last week Ian Feuer was sent out on loan for a month to Derby County. It would appear that they have a bit of a problem at the moment and it's possible that Ian could play tonight in the game at Spurs this could mean that both goalkeepers have a Wimbledon Connection. |
|
15/10/2001
Damien On Display - After the comments I made about Damien
Francis at the end of last week it would appear that he could well
be playing for the Reserves on Wednesday evening away at Watford.
The Match will be played at Vicarage Road and will start at 7pm.
|
|
14/10/2001
Bassett in for Ship's? - The People newspaper today reports
that new Leicester Manager Dave Bassett is considering making an offer
for Neil Shipperley. Neil played for Bassett at both Palace and Barnsley
but lets hope they decided to go for Bobby Zamora at Brighton instead.
|
|
14/10/2001 Gˇrard Houllier - I sure everyone was as shocked as I was when I heard the news about the Liverpool Manager. Wimbledon Fans went through a similar situation when Joe Kinnear was manager and I would just like to wish Gˇrard his family and all connected with Liverpool Football Club the very best. |
|
14/10/2001
Newspaper Round Up - The Sunday Telegraph "Despite their
efforts to get back into the game Wimbledon lacked the creativity
to break down a newly resilient Palace side." More.
Guardian "Wimbledon, after their early flourish, can have few
complaints. They were second best all over the pitch, with too many
players accepting defeat long before the end." More.

|
14/10/2001 Palace Man Of The Match Vote And Reflection -
The vote for the Man Of The Match in the Crystal Palace game is now open please click below to vote.
It's all very easy to be critical of yesterday's performance but this
is one of the things of football. Two weeks ago we beat a team who
many believe will walk the division 4-0 at their ground this week
we lose 4-0 to a team that hadn't really been tested this season If
the results had been switched round and we had lost to Manchester
City and beaten Palace would we be thinking the same? I don't think
we would. Anything can happen in this division and it's important
that we start again next Saturday when we play Gillingham at Selhurst.
|
|
13/10/2001
Bad day at the office - Not a lot you can say after Palace
4 Dons 0. Just seemed to be one of them days when nothing went right
for us. In my opinion we looked very light in midfield today. Palace
did play well but I think 4-0 flattered them a lot, they were very
fast and countered attacked very well. It wasn't all one way traffic
with Matt Clarke their keeper pulling off two brilliant saves. The
dons did managed to find the back of the net but unfortunately it
was for Palace's forth goal when Wayne Brown headed home unchallenged
from a needless corner. |

12/10/2001
Saturday Team News - With David Connolly being suspended this
weekend following the sending off at West Brom Neil Shipperley will
bee partnered up front by Patrick Agyemang. Tickets have apparently
sold very well but they will be available on the day either from the
box office if paying by credit card or Cheque or the ticket office
on the corner of Homesdale Road and Park Road. The cost is £19 for
adults and £10 for kids. |
|
12/10/2001
Damo Update - Further to yesterday's news about Damien Francis
I have found out some more information. This is the second week that
Damien has been back in training and it would appear that he is very
quickly getting back in the swing of things. When he was involved
in games last week it appeared that both he and the other players
seemed a little careful when going in for tackles, after the injury
that Damien suffered that was none to much of a surprise. But speaking
today to someone that regularly watches the players train he was very
impressed by how Damien was doing and both Damien and the other players
were going into tackles as you would expect. Damien is not talking
about any sort of return date but on this news it might not be too
long before he is back. |
|
11/10/2001 Confirmation on Wayne Brown - Terry Burton today confirmed that the loan deal of Wayne Brown had been extended for another month. |
|
11/10/2001 Injury update - I went over to the training ground today and although the usual players of Ardley, Ainsworth, Andersen and Williams were all missing one player that took part fully in the first team training session was Damien Francis. I would still imagine that Damien is about a month away from any involvement was it was so good to see him being involved with the squad. Lets hope it's not to long before we see him in our midfield again. |
|
10/10/2001
From £3 Million to Free - When we first signed David Connolly
it looked like we would have to pay AZ Alkmaar's an amount as he said
that he join them. The Dutch team wanted £3 million pounds for him
but the case when to the Dutch FA and this afternoon they turned round
and said we didn't have to pay anything!! That's right that now means
that we have got David Connolly who has already scored 6 goals for
us this season on a free transfer. |
|
10/10/2001 New look for itmustbedons.com - Yes you have come to the right web site. Over the past few days I have been producing a new look for the site. I hope you like it. Their are still a number of pages that are still in the old format (including the whole of the last two and a half years of news. Please bear with me over the next few days as I get all the main pages working and then will make a start on all the old stuff. |
|
10/10/2001 Wayne Brown Loan Deal Extended ? - As the first month of Wayne Brown's loan spell comes to an end this weekend it looks like the deal will be extended. Reports out of Ipswich say that George Burley the Ipswich Manager has extended the deal adding "gaining valuable experience and playing regularly at first team level", and so has agreed that he can remain with the club for longer. It hasn't been said how long Wayne will remain with us but the original option was for a month with possibly be extending for an additional 2 months. |
|
10/10/2001 Ticket News For Crystal Palace Match - Saturdays game against Crystal Palace will see us sitting in the
Arthur Waite Stand in Blocks X,Y and Z. So far we have sold out
all tickets in block X, but tickets will be available on the day
priced £19 for adults and £10 for kids. |
|
09/10/2001 Andy Roberts On The Weekends South London Derby - One player well up for the "derby" game at the weekend is Andy Roberts
who has played for both sides. Andy scored in the "Away" match last
year but we lost 3-1 in an interview today he talks about how he
is finally able to show the Dons fans what he can do. He also thinks
that he is paying off some of his transfer fee this season.
He also adds "When I first joined Wimbledon they were a bit of a kick and rush team. I am happy with my performances so far and that is probably down to the fact that the style we are playing is so suited to my game" |
|
08/10/2001 Meeting On Ground Issue - A meeting took place between Wimbledon Football Club, London Borough of Merton, The Football League and Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association today regarding various sites that may be able to be used for the club to build a stadium on. The meeting included a trip round the area and examined one site owned by "Railtrack" that may be able to be turned into a stadium. They plan to meet again within the next 2 to 3 weeks to discuss their views. |
|
08/10/2001 Republic
Of Ireland Play-off news - At present the Republic of Ireland are due to play a 2 match play-off
which would see David Connolly and Kenny Cunningham miss the Friday
night Pay-Per-View Match against Sheffield United at Selhurst. But
with events going on in the world at the moment they may not have
to play the play-off game as their Asian opponents may not finish
their games in time. |
|
07/10/2001 Connolly
Scores as Republic Win - So all three of our International were on winning sides although Kenny Cunningham didn't play.
David Connolly continued his good run of form with the Republic's
third goal but the match report in The Sunday Telegraph said
that he missed other chances and is unlikely to start in the play
off matches ahead of Niall Quinn and Robbie Keane.
Michael Hughes played in Northern Irelands 1-0 victory over Malta. |
|
07/10/2001 Manchester City
- Man Of the Match Result - The result of the Man Of The Match vote for the Manchester City game has now closed and the result is as follows: -
Kenny Cunningham 7 votes 37% David Connolly 6 votes 32% Darren Holloway 3 votes 16% Jermaine Darlington 1 vote 5% Michael Hughes 1 vote 5% Jobi McAnuff 1 vote 5% A new vote will open after the Crystal Palace game on Saturday. |
|
06/10/2001 International
Team News - With it being International weekend the dons will be keeping an eye on the performances of our Irish based players in their matches.David Connolly has been confirmed as starting up front for the Republic while Kenny Cunningham will be on the bench due to the fact that he is already on a yellow card and if he were to pick up another one he would miss out on an important play-off game that the Republic are guaranteed.Meanwhile in Malta Michael Hughes should start for Northern Ireland in their game that has no affect on how the group finishes. |
|
06/10/2001 New Date for
Walsall game - The game against Walsall at Selhurst has been rearranged for Tuesday November 20th with a 7:45pm kick off. |
|
04/10/2001 Wayne
Gray On Loan Again - Dons reserve striker Wayne Gray has been linked with a move to Rochdale
Teamtalk Website reports he scored for their reserves in a game
against Mansfield in the week. Rochdale won 5-2. Wayne has been
loaned out to a number of clubs including Port Vale and Swindon
but I wouldn't expect any move to be made permanent. |
|
04/10/2001 Ex-Manager's Job on the line - One other semi Dons related story I came across today is the news that ex Wimbledon Manager Peter Withe may be about to lose his job as Thailand coach. This time it's not down to poor results but due to the fact that their was an agreement that the English FA would pay his salary. That agreement has now ended and the Thai football association cant afford to pay him. |

04/10/2001 Man Of The Match Vote for Manchester City -
If you haven't voted for Man Of The Match in the Manchester City
game their is still time click below to vote.

03/10/2001 Poll Result and New Poll Added
- Should we Buy Wayne Brown. - I have now closed the poll of "Which player do we miss most when they are out injured?" and the result are as follows: -K.Cunningham (104) 57% G.Ainsworth (22) 12% M.Williams (20) 11% T.Andersen (13) 7% K.Davis (9) 5% D.Francis (9) 5% P.Karlsson (3) 2% L.Morgan (2) 1%Thanks to everyone who voted I have now added a new poll based on our on-loan defender Wayne Brown. Please cast your vote. |

03/10/2001 Manchester
City Goals On Official Site - For anyone who like myself wasn't able to get to the Manchester
City game on Saturday take a trip over to the Official
Site Where you can download the goals from the game. The file
is just over 2.6mb but well worth having a look at.
|
|
03/10/2001 Ardley Injury Update -
Neal Ardley he will be out for about another month following the
injury that he picked up during the Portsmouth game. In an interview
on the Official site he also talks about how the players who are
not involved in games at the moment are desperate to get back in
and how He, Gareth and Mark (Williams) were all sending text messages
to each other after each goal. |
|
02/10/2001 International Preview -
International weeks are always very quite and it has got that way already. For the record the players called up were Michael Hughes for Northern Ireland and Kenny Cunningham and David Connolly for the Republic of Ireland.Although Northern Ireland can't qualify for the 2002 World Cup Michael will be hoping to put in another good performance and perhaps add to his goals scored total.
The Republic Of Ireland have already guaranteed a play-off place and it's unlikely that they will win the group but finishing ahead of Holland is no mean achievement.
|
|
02/10/2001 Palace Build Up -
The next game now for the first team is the "Away" game against
Palace (on Saturday week) so far Palace have started well but have
mainly played teams that haven't been doing well lets hope that
our good run will continue. |
|
01/10/2001 Walsall Called Off -
The Game against Walsall has just been called off (15:20) no date has been given for the new fixture as of yet. |
|
01/10/2001 Gareth And Trond Radio Stars -
Tonight on Talk sport Gareth Ainsworth and Trond Andersen were talking
about their band that they have been involved in. I e-mailed a question
of "When we get to the FA Cup Final will they do the Cup final record"
the answer was a firm no they even went as far as saying that they would never go into a studio with the rest of the team.
|
|
01/10/2001 Mascot Grand National -

01/10/2001 Kenny Cunningham Called Up - Walsall Off?-
