February 2001
28/02/2001 Tonight's reserve game against Ipswich has been called off.Along with our game being off tonight the Republic's game in Dublin has also been called off this means that Kenny Cunningham will have a bit of a rest before the weekend.A report I saw on Tuesday said that Chris Willmott would be missing due to suspension for the Gillingham and Palace games, if this is the case it means that both Mark Williams and Chris Willmott will be missing for the Gillingham games due to suspensions.
27/02/2001 The reserves should be in action on Wednesday night at Sutton kick off 7:30 when they are due to play Ipswich Town. The Under 19's played at lunchtime on Tuesday against Watford the match finished in a 1-1 draw.It looks like the International "Battle Of the Dons" Williams Vs Andersen or Northern Ireland Vs Norway could be off due to a frozen pitch in Belfast. Also in doubt is the game in Dublin of Republic of Ireland Vs Denmark due to bad weather this could mean that Kenny Cunningham doesn't play either.
26/02/2001 Mark Williams has updated his site and it's well worth a read. One of the things that Marc Points out is that both him and Jason Euell are about to start suspensions 2 games for Mark 1 for Jason.Another player who I believe is out at the moment is Ian Feuer who had a small operation on Friday. If you haven't voted yet for the Man Of The Match in the Queens Park Rangers game please click below.
25/02/2001 Our game against Wolves has been rearranged for Wednesday 4th April 2001.Congratulations to both youth teams yesterday the Under 19's beat Palace (a) 3-1 and the Under 17's won 1-0 at home to Bristol City.Teamtalk reports that Terry Burton was watching Chris McGroarty of Dunfermline who's is 20 years. The player is a midfielder who has scored 1 goal from 18 games. In yesterday's programme Lionel Morgan one of our promising youngsters was explaining about what an up and down season he had been through. He was saying how happy he was to play for the first team and then the low of being out injured and the next high of looking forward to playing in the Youth Cup Quarter Final at Anfield. Well Lionel is feeling a bit down at the moment as he has just found out that following the reserve match on Wednesday against Coventry he was booked and faces a ban, this ban included the tie at Liverpool. This will be a huge loss for the youngsters but let's hope they can get a result. In today's News Of The World 1st Division team of the week we were represented by three players Mark Williams, Gareth Ainsworth and Jason Euell well done to them three.
24/02/2001 So teams that play and lose on penalties in FA Cup matches are dejected and the following game is really boring and they normally lose or draw 0-0 do they? Not the Mighty Dons today we went out and put 5 past Queens Park Rangers without them replying. The goals came from Mark Williams (2) Jason Euell (2) and Marcus Gayle. Mark Williams could well have had a hat-trick but the ref said one of his efforts didn't cross the line but most people in the Homesdale thought that it did.I spoke to Mark after the game and of course he was very happy with the result. I asked him "Had we got a penalty would you have taken it to try and get your hat-trick?" His reply "Yes! I spoke to Jason (Euell) and asked if he would let me take it but he said no" Now if that don't show the spirit of this guy nothing will. Top BlokeThe vote for man of the match is now open please click below to vote.Congratulations to Marcus Gayle who earlier in the week (Thursday) had a new addition to the family when his other half gave birth to a baby. Thanks to REPD for spotting my mistake on the Gillingham tickets we are in fact getting 1200 not 120. :)Mark Williams has updated his site have a read it gives a brilliant version of Tuesday night. Click here to readMark faces a two match ban after being booked 10 times this season and is likely to miss the games at Stockport and Gillingham.Tickets for the trip to Gillingham should be on sale today the match is All-Ticket as we only get 1200 standing tickets. The result of the Man Of The Match vote for the Wycombe game is as follows: -Gareth Ainsworth 17 votes 65% Mark Williams 3 votes 12% Wayne Gray 2 votes 8% Peter Hawkins 2 votes 8% Marcus Gayle 1 vote 4% Kenny Cunningham 1 vote 4% A new vote will open tonight after the Queens Park Rangers game.
With matches taking place in the country today I have added the Live Scores link again to find out the latest scores click here the times given are European so remember to take an hour off for the UK time.
23/02/2001 This weekend we return to league action with a game at Selhurst against Queens Park Rangers, even a win against them will see us remain in 11th place following Burnley's win over Fulham earlier in the week.It looks like Alan Kimble could return to the team after his injury that he has suffered.Couple of dates for the diary (both are yet to be confirmed but seem likely to be over the next few days) Wednesday 7th March Liverpool Vs Wimbledon FA Youth cup Quarter Finals Anfield 7:00pm Kick off. Lets give the kids the support they deserve and if you can make it to the game lets do it. April 10th Wimbledon Vs Burnley at Selhurst. The Official Site has been re-vamped and can now be found at the following location http://www.wimbledon-fc.co.uk/ it has received mixed reviews but have a look to see what you think.
22/02/2001 The reserves lost 1-0 to Coventry on Wednesday night it what was a poor game so I heard. If you want a player reaction to Tuesday night read Trond's site (link on the right) it will make you aware of what he went through and why he didn't take a penalty. If you want to vote for Man Of The Match but haven't please click below.Paul Robinson has gone on loan to Dundee United with the view to a permanent move, if a deal is reached it is likely to be for about 1.5 million pounds. Now we are out of the Cup we can start to arrange the rest of our season's fixture list we have still got to arrange games against Burnley and Huddersfield at Selhurst and away at Grimsby and Wolves I understand that the FA wanted us to play a game next Tuesday but due to the fact that three players are off on International duty we said we wouldn't play.
21/02/2001 After the disappointment of defeat last night it's time to pick ourselves up and aim to reach the playoffs. While we were playing last night there was almost a full league programme. Watford lost and this now means that we are 12 points behind the playoffs with 3 games in hand. So if we can put a run together we could well be in with a shout. On Thursday afternoon some of the first team should be in the club shop in Wimbledon players that are scheduled to turn up are Trond Andersen, Mark Williams, Peter Hawkins, Rob Geir and Gareth Ainsworth. If you get the opportunity to be in the area try and pop in the shop from 2:30 when the players are due to be there. All this is subject to change so please don't complain if any of the named players don't appear.Terry Burton could well be in trouble following the Wycombe game following their second goal which to me looked like it was offside Terry came out and told the linesman what he thought about the decision after that the ref was called over and Terry was ordered to the stand. He is likely to face an FA charge leading to a Fine and a touchline ban.
20/02/2001 So a 7-8 defeat on penalties sees us exit the FA Cup. The Two matches against Wycombe were excellent and had everything but unfortunately we didn't quite make it through. Even missing a last minute penalty to stop the tie going into extra time. The deciding penalty was missed by Mark Williams. The result of the first Wycombe game is as follows: -Gareth Ainsworth 16 votes 70% Patrick Agyemang 2 votes 9% Jason Euell 2 votes 9% Marcus Gayle 1 vote 4% Mark Williams 1 vote 4% Trond Andersen 1 vote 4% The Man Of The Match vote for the replay match is now up please click below to vote.Wednesday night see's the reserves in action against Coventry at Sutton believed to be in the starting line up for the dons is Michael Hughes.
19/02/2001 The team for Tuesday night looks like it is likely to be the same as the one that played on Saturday at Wycombe. For people going to the game I would advise you to turn up early as the vast majority of people will have not bought tickets in advance and it could take longer than usual to get in.So far Wycombe have 18 coaches booked and have sold over 2000 tickets they are expected to have in the region of 5,000 fans in the ground. If you are in two minds as to if to turn up or not please do as every supporters helps and it would also bee nice to Show Lawrie and Gibbo a great reception. If you haven't voted for Man Of The Match for the Wycombe game please do as it will be closing late on Tuesday night (once I get home) please click below to vote.Teamtalk are linking Trond with a move to Manchester City. This may be a case of Joy Royle trying to stop his side from facing the drop but I cant see Trond going anyway.
18/02/2001 Details of the draw for the FA Cup can be found under phase two of today's news.Today's news will be split in to two section following the bizarre explanation on Match Of The Days about Wycombe's second goal it will be Phase One and Phase Two.Phase OneSo for people who didn't see the Match Of The Day Coverage last night they were surprised that Wycombe's second goal wasn't called offside after the match the ref was interviewed and he said that "During Phase One of the play (the bit when the Wycombe player played the ball in) it didn't reach the area where the Wycombe players were so they were not active. The Ball then was touched by Darren Holloway (and became Phase Two)and therefore offside was not an option" The fact is that the path of the ball from when it was first hit wasn't changed the fact that it touched Holloway should of been overlooked as the players were offside.Phase TwoWith the cup draw being made at 6pm tonight I will put details of who we might play if we can get past Wycombe on Tuesday night. On Thursday afternoon the club shop in wimbledon will be having a visit from a couple of First Team players they should be there from 2:30 so if you are in the area please pop in. I will try and find out what players will be there. The draw for the Quarter Finals of the cup has seen us be drawn away at Leicester if we can beat Wycombe on Tuesday night. Terry Burton has said that he felt we should of put our earlier chances away and then the game would have been all over.
17/02/2001 A 2-2 draw with Wycombe after being 2-0 at half time we can discuss the "offsideness" of the second goal till the Cows come home but it was given and we now have a replay on Tuesday night. The replay means that the Huddersfield game is postponed and will be played at a later date.Wu Tang Ageymang got his first goal today to give us a 2-0 lead lets hope this is the first of many. The Man Of The Match vote for today's game has been added with the replay on Tuesday it will close after I get home Tuesday night so please vote as soon as you can.Who Says the FA Cup has lost it's magic today we are off to play Wycombe in a 5th Round match and the excitement from fans of both sides is unreal. If you are unable to get to the game coverage will be on BBC Radio 5 for the second half and also on Match Of The Day tonight. The Result of the Boro Man Of The Match vote is given below 9 players got votes and I think that shows how well everyone played: -Gareth Ainsworth 17 votes 33% Kenny Cunningham 11 votes 22% Neal Ardley 7 votes 14% Peter Hawkins 6 votes 12% Jason Euell 4 votes 8% Trond Andersen 3 votes 6% Mark Williams 1 vote 2% Wayne Gray 1 vote 2% Patrick Agyemang 1 vote 2% A new vote will open following the Wycombe game.
Both Trond Andersen and Mark Williams have updated their sites on Icon's the link to Trond's is on the right of the page but if you want to view mark's site click here he has not added a link to the diary but link should take you directly there. With matches taking place in the country today I have added the Live Scores link again to find out the latest scores click here the times given are European so remember to take an hour off for the UK time.
16/02/2001 The vote for the Boro Man Of The Match will stay open till Saturday morning so if you haven't voted please do so by clicking below. It's looks like Alan Kimble will still be out of the team following his injury in the Sheffield Wednesday game last Saturday. For people travelling on Saturday to Wycombe just a small reminder that England are at Twickers so the M4 could be busy if you go that way. Also Train station is High Wycombe there is a bus service that will take you to the ground as it is a fair track might be worth if a group of people getting a cab.Marcus Gayle is reported on Teamtalk that it may be time for him to leave the Dons due to his lack of first team games.
15/02/2001 If you are not suffering with cup fever at the moment you either have nerves of steel or are hiding them well.Saturday see's the trip to a sold out Adams Park for the meeting of our current Heroes against two of our old Heroes and the game seems to be picking up in media interest. The match will be a main game on Match Of The Day here in the UK with John Motson doing the commentary while over on BBC Radio 5 Live they will have second half commentary. All tickets are sold out with 1400 being sold in under 5 hours on Tuesday night Wednesday morning.Mark Williams suffered a broken nose on Tuesday, with it being broken in two places. Meanwhile it looks like Damien will miss the rest of this season with his injury Get Well Soon mate you have had a brilliant season.
14/02/2001 Congratulations to Trond, Kenny and Mark (Williams) who have all been selected for their international squads. This is brilliant news for Trond and Kenny who have both been out of the International Scene.I have heard a report that Saturday at Wycombe is now sold out. While most of us were cheering on the first team at Selhurst on Tuesday the reserves had a 3-0 defeat at Spurs.Tickets are going well fast with under 400 now left for the match on Saturday at Wycombe. Tickets must be collected from the box office before the weekend but you can either phone the box office on 020 8771 8841 or fax them on 020 8653 4708 if you don't have access to a fax machine try the following site www.tpc.int.While we are talking about fixtures next Tuesday will see us play Huddersfield at Selhurst or Wycombe in the replay at Selhurst. The talk yesterday of Ian Feuer going to Peterborough on loan is not correct Ian knows nothing about this and Terry Burton apparently has said that we need three keepers at the club so Ian for the time being will be going nowhere. Due to an oversight last night with everything going on the Man Of The Match vote from last night was set up incorrectly. Neal Ardley was left off so I have now changed this if you have voted can you please vote again.Early reports seem to suggest that Damien Francis could be out for the rest of the season.
13/02/2001 3-1 Victory after extra time only down side was the injury that Damien Francis sustained in the first half. The result see's us play Wycombe away on Saturday. The result of the Man Of The Man Of The Match vote for the Sheffield Wednesday game is as follows:-Patrick Ageymang 26 votes 49% Trond Andersen 18 votes 34% Gareth Ainsworth 7 votes 13% Wayne Gray 2 votes 4% Thanks to everyone that voted the new vote for the Man Of The Match for the Boro game has now been added please click below to vote.
12/02/2001 It now looks unlikely that Dean Holdsworth will be joining us from Bolton although a signing may be on the cards.Ok the following message is for information purposes only and should only be read in line with the result of Tuesday's match. If we beat Boro on Tuesday night tickets for the Wycombe game will go on straight after the game. Tickets will be limited to one per person for this "all ticket" match. I believe that it will be season ticket holders only and you must be in person to purchase a ticket. The only injury doubt that we have at the moment is Alan Kimble who picked up a shoulder injury during the 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.Due to the Boro game on Tuesday night you only have till then to vote for Man Of The Match for the Sheffield Wednesday game if you haven't voted yet please click below.
11/02/2001 Interesting quote from Terry Burton after the game he points out that John Hartson only played one out of our last seven games and therefore it's not right to say that Hartson being sold made a difference on the pitch he also added that "our two strikers now have pace"I think most people will admit that the starting line up on Saturday was our first team line up. The performance was very solid and how we didn't score more was even a touch confusing. The number of times that Patrick Agyemang just strolled past their defenders was just embarrassing and the move for the second goal was just sublime.I had a chat with Trond after the game and he said that if we had got a penalty towards the end he wouldn't have taken it even though he was on a Hat-TrickSo is ex-womble Dean Holdsworth about to make a return to the Dons? A rumour from Bolton's rivals site says that Dean was not at the ground due to the following reason "Dean Holdsworth missed the game due to hurting his ankle at home on Friday night after twisting it on his drive outside his house" but Bolton fans think that he could be on the verge of a move to the Dons.
10/02/2001 How hot was that today 4-1 with two goals from Trond. :)The gap between us and Burnley is now just one point! The Man Of The Match Vote for today's game is now open please click below to vote. The result of the Man Of The Match for the Boro game is as follows:-Kelvin Davis 8 votes 47% Kenny Cunningham 6 votes 35% Trond Andersen 2 votes 12% Par Karlsson 1 vote 6% Thanks to all who voted. With matches taking place in the country today I have added the Live Scores link again to find out the latest scores click here the times given are European so remember to take an hour off for the UK time.
09/02/2001 It looks like we will have an unchanged team for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. Neal Ardley is still out with a virus, but this match will see the return of Kenny Cunningham in a Dons shirt at Selhurst.Talking of returns on the Sheffield Wednesday team will be old Dons favourite Efan Ekoku let's hope he doesn't do what Dean Holdsworth did!Young Ansah Owusu has gone on loan for a month at Bristol rovers to get some first team action.Another Player has joined the icon's crew Mark Williams now ahs a site up but as yet no diary it can be found at http://www.icon.com/.don't forget if you haven't voted for Man Of The Match for the Boro game to click below to vote.
08/02/2001 Charles Koppel who was the vice-chairman of the club has been promoted to Chairman with Bjorn Gjelsten steeping down to be a member of the board. Bjorn's reason's for stepping down is due to his various business commitments, Charles is also spends most of his time in the UK so will have more day to day running at the club.So after all the On Off deals John Hartson has joined Coventry in a "Pay-As-You-Play" deal this is meant to be the same for the player as well as the club. This will most probably not be popular but although I think it is right that John Has left the club I think it is a real shame. John always had time for the supporters and would always have a chat about things. I hope he does well in the future as I think we all know that he can be a brilliant player. His goal against Villa last season will always be one of the special moments.Congratulations to the youth team that beat Wolves 3-0 on their own patch and now face a trip to Liverpool in the quarter finals. The reserve game that was due to be played on Wednesday night was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
07/02/2001 03:45 and just got in from the game at Boro.A 0-0 draw but what a performance a couple of world class saves from Kelvin but we played really well and controlled a fair percentage of the game. The replay will be on Tuesday 13th February 2001 kick off 7:45pm.The Man of the Match vote for the Boro game is now open. Please click below to vote.I am hoping to do another update later today but due to the fact that I have got to be at Hospital by 08:30 and will be there for most of the day it may not appear but I will do my best.
06/02/2001 John Hartson is not travelling to Middlesbrough so that he can concentrate on training due to the fact that he is has not played much since Christmas. There is a good interview from the BBC with Terry Burton you can listen to it hereAlthough it is wet in Middlesbrough there should be no problems with the game going on. We have five coaches making the trip that means that about 250 fans will be taking advantage of the free travel offer that the club have provided.
05/02/2001 Wimbledon are introducing cut price admission for games against Crewe and Barnsley adults can sit in the upper tier of the Homesdale for £15.00 while kids and OAP's will only pay £1.00. The tickets can be bought in advance or on the day.The latest news I have heard from Middlesbrough is that although it is raining they have had no snow. The pitch is covered by a huge balloon and the game shouldn't be in problems.Reports from Luton say that it will be announced on Tuesday that Mick Harford will link up with Joe Kinnear as part of their new coaching team.
04/02/2001 Neal Ardley's goal against Notts County in the first game was selected in the top 10 for goal of the Month for January. If you wish to vote it was goal C but you have to select two other goals out of the 10 to match the panel.Teamtalk is linking Jason Euell with a move to either Spurs or Villa and saying that the deal may take place within the next month prior to the transfer deadline. With the game at Grimsby being called off we are starting to get a bit of fixture congestion. At the moment we are due to play Boro on Tuesday night if that goes ahead (it's currently snowing in Middlesbrough) and goes to a replay it will be played the following Tuesday. If we get past Boro we will play Wycombe on 5th round day otherwise we are away at Wolves. This means we still have to fit in the Grimsby game as well as getting a date for the Burnley game.
03/02/2001 Perhaps my post earlier today should have been Grimsby Off rather than Off to Grimsby. Found out the game was off when we got to Doncaster at 10:40 this morning due to WaterHogs on the pitch or should that be water haddocks.Anyway us being Dons about 30 of us had a good day out in Cleethorpes lovely pub and lovely Fish and Chips. With regards to the coaches for Tuesday night I believe that we now have 5 coaches with more people booking up all the time.Off to Grimsby today or as it's known by Dons fans the Hawaii of the north so a group of Wimbledon fans will be wearing Hawaiian shirts and some may even have grass skirts!!The result of the Man Of The Match vote for the Notts County game is below.Patrick Agyemang 10 votes 43% Trond Andersen 5 votes 22% Chris Willmott 4 votes 17% Gareth Ainsworth 3 votes 13% Peter Hawkins 1 vote 4% A New vote will be open once I return from Grimsby, thanks to everyone that voted. With matches taking place in the country today I have added the Live Scores link again to find out the latest scores click here the times given are European so remember to take an hour off for the UK time.
02/02/2001 So the Hartson deal is off, the reason given by Coventry is due to the fact that they were unable to insure him for the full transfer fee.It Looks like Kenny Cunningham will start his first game of the season on Saturday also back are Holloway and Geir who have served their suspensions.Damien Francis has said how much he is enjoying it at Wimbledon this season he says "I don't want to go anywhere at the moment because this season is going brilliantly for me at the moment, I'm really starting to play well at first-team level and I'm really enjoying my football".
01/02/2001 I looks like Friday could well see John Hartson complete his move to Coventry. Coventry had made a new approach to sign John following their 1-0 defeat at Leeds on Wednesday. The reserves had a 1-1 draw at Forest on Wednesday with McNuff scoring our goal. Kenny Cunningham played and came through the full game. For people wanting to use the free travel to Boro the number to call is O7702 543 726 this is the number of Tim Elkins. The coach will leave from The Woodman Pub in Durnsford Road Wimbledon (near the old ground, and near Wimbledon Park station).
