September 2000
30/09/2000 A 2-0 victory for our first win at Selhurst since March 11th.The Man of the match result for the Queens Park Rangers game is as follows:-Trond Andersen 11 votes 31% Mark Williams 10 votes 28% Peter Hawkings 8 votes 22% Chris Willmott 3 votes 8% Jason Euell 2 votes 6% Damien Francis 2 votes 6%
29/09/2000 Sorry for the late update tonight but today was my 30th Birthday so went for a few non-alcoholic drinks after work (cant drink). It would appear that the Holloway deal has been completed and although he wont play on Saturday he should be ready for the game against Gillingham.Saturday sees the clubs Kids For A Quid Scheme if you know of any kids that are not going but would like to go bring them along to cheer the Boys on.
28/09/2000 The Worthington Cup has seen us drawn at Selhurst against Middlesborough.Should we win that match we would play the winners of the Aston Villa Vs Manchester City Game the other teams in our part of the draw are Southampton Vs Coventry and Arsenal Vs Ipswich. As you can see this means we are the only non Premiership team in our section of the draw.If we were to be very successful we could meet either Spurs, Newcastle or Bradford in the Semi Final stage.!There are conflicting reports regarding the possible transfer of Darren Holloway some reports this morning said the deal was off but the BBC report this afternoon that the deal has almost been completed.
27/09/2000 After the way the Dunne deal fell through this week there has been a lot of net talk about the poor showing in Wimbledon's Public Relations in a move to try an put this right Charles Koppell has tried to explain the situation on the club's Official site the full interview can be read here but below are a couple of snippets from it."Like everyone involved with the club we want to win promotion this season. If we can do it this year then it would be fantastic. However, it is vitally important that we get the stability of the club and the infrastructure right first so when we do return to the Premiership we can compete with the best." "I think in fairness to us we never actually said we would be in at Raynes Park this summer. We said summer 2001 at the earliest. Had we still been at Richardson Evans then we would have rushed things through, but at The Bank of England Ground we have a great set-up and our contract has an option of extending our stay there if necessary which is good for us. Fulham launched their rebirth there before their new training ground was completed and now we will launch ours." A 2-1 victory at Wigan after Marcus Gayle scored straight after Wigan had pulled it back to 1-1.The Draw for the third round is apparently at 06:40 UK time on Thursday morning.
26/09/2000 This is a write up I wasn't expecting to do as I was due to be up at Wigan but on route to get my transport I went down really unwell so I had to return home.At Half Time we lead 1-0 thanks to a John Hartson goal on 18 seconds. This means that Wigan will have to score atleast 2 goals to win on the night and stop us from getting through.
25/09/2000 After it looking like the Dunne deal may be complete it has yet again broken down.Congratulations to Neil Jenkins who has been called up into the England Under 18 squad.
24/09/2000 The man Of The Match vote for the Queens Park Rangers match is now open. One of the rumours that has been going about over the last few days seems to be having more substance to it every day. It would appear that it is likely that Graham Rix the Chelsea coach could well be leaving them following their new coach comming in. In the past week Rix has been at our games against Wolves and QPR.
23/09/2000 Another frustrating away performance which ended in a 2-1 defeat. The Crystal Palace game on Sunday 8th October 2000 has been postponed following Hartson, Williams and Andersen being called up for international duty that weekend.
22/09/2000 Lets start with a couple of gems. And over to Charles Koppell - Wimbledon Deputy Chairman Charles Koppell has admitted the groundshare with CP is not doing the club any favours. Koppell cites playing at Selhurst Park as the reason for Tuesday night's paltry 1,943 crowd and hopes to reveal plans for a new stadium in the new year."Tuesday was a miserable night for everyone here." Said Koppell."It just highlights that we need to get something sorted because the groundshare is not working."We are based in Selhurst which is CP land. People who live here support them and are not going to come to our games."At this stage we have already identified site for a new ground, and hopefully we'll be able to unveil plans in the new year."Like that well now Read what John Hartson has to say - John Hartson' £7.5m move to Rangers is back ON. Hartson told Sport First yesterday "I am interested only in scoring goals for the Dons. I have been out for a long time and I am really just keen to get 15 or 20 more games under my belt and 15 or more goals so that I can point to my success on the pitch. I know if I score goals there are clubs who will look at me, but I am not bothered about that. What bothers me is putting in as good a performance as possible for Terry Burton and my team mates. I've got five goals since I came back, but I want a lot more."Right so now back to the mundane stuff :) Darren Holloway may join us next week our first bid has been turned down but Sunderland are open to offers.Apologies to all readers about the lack of updates and match reports over the last 10 days I will get this sorted out over the weekend and a full service will be resumed straight away.
21/09/2000 Gareth Ainsworth should play for the reserves before the month is out as he has been back in training for a couple of weeks. It is reported that we are interested in Darren Bullock of Sunderland but the player was injured in the week in there Worthington cup match.
20/09/2000 After yesterday's game it has been very quite a few of the press boys/girls made comments about the low crowd under 2,000 but we still got more than Derby. On Tuesday reports in the paper said they would could well be back in for Dunne of Everton after he was put back in the reserves after playing on Saturday.Ticket sales have been going well for the QPR game with only about 500 left on Tuesday night. It may be worth trying to get tickets in advance but they should be available as we still have the upper tier that could be opened.
19/09/2000 A 0-0 draw against Wigan in the pouring rain and a game where we overpassed. It was a disappointing result but all to play for next Tuesday at Wigan.
18/09/2000 Tuesday see's us take part in the First Leg of the second round of the Worthington cup against Wigan. The second round is notorious for low attendance's and to try and increase the attendance Wimbledon have reduced the ticket prices round the ground for all areas except the Directors Box to £10.00 for adults and £5.00 for kids lets get behind the team and have a decent turn out.The Standard tonight reports that John Hartson will be off by Christmas but if you read the report you will see that they are just stirring.
17/09/2000 Following Saturday's 1-1 draw against Wolves the press who in the past have not given us such good coverage seemed to be very impressed with John Hartson's performance, Colin Lee the Wolves manager even went as far as saying that "John is a Class above this division".Yesterday was launch day of the shop and the feedback that we got was very good. There was one or two queues but on the whole it was a very good day.Tickets are on Sale for next week's game away at Queens Park Rangers and seem to be going very quickly.Correction on the Grimsby game it will be played on Wednesday 8th November and not Tuesday as I had said.
16/09/2000 Jonathan Hunt the midfielder that has completed his move to the Dons has been added to the squad for today's match against Wolves. At 1pm today the Wimbledon Club Shop at Selhurst Park will be opened by Kenny Cunningham, we will be open from 11am so come in and have a look at the new range of puma stock that we have. At the Watford Game we told people that when they visited the shop at the next game they would be proud of it and I can safely say that after being there all week I think everyone will be very impressed on what has been done.
15/09/2000 The Grimsby game that was postponed at Selhurst the other week has now been re-arranged for Tuesday 8th November 2000.On Wednesday night the reserves lost 4-2 at Ipswich after a nightmare journey Paul Robinson scored the first goal.
14/09/2000 The game against Wolves is almost certainly set to go on this Saturday and all the players have confirmed to Terry Burton that they have enough Fuel to get home tonight (Thursday) and to training and the game on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday The Club Shop will be opened officially by Kenny Cunningham at 1pm. The Shop is situated between the Sainsburys cash points and the Sainsburys end of the ground on the main stand side. It used to be the old travel agents. Please come along and see the new range of Puma Leisure wear and also the merchandise that we previously had but never knew about like Plough Lane Postcards!
13/09/2000 Right sensible time sensible update.Due to the on going fuel dispute (that now seems to be lifting as my local station has fuel) there is still a doubt over the Wolves game on Saturday the club will know one way or the other for definite on Thursday and I will post news on here.A strong Dons team is due to take on Ipswich tonight at Portman road the team includes, Roberts, Robinson, Blackwell, Karlsson and on the bench Morgan and Ageymang who were both in Huddersfield on Tuesday night there was a slight development this afternoon though when the coach that the team was travelling on was caught up in a 26 mile traffic jam on the way. They were in talks with Ipswich about alternative routes and hope that the game will go ahead.Turning the clock back a few days to Saturday and the brilliant win over Sheffield Wednesday, Dons Fan Peter Bowles was standing near John Hartson when he was interviewed by the media, yesterday he told me about the following that John Hartson said and was half reported but with a few important words missing. John Said "The Wimbledon FANS had been brilliant too him after everything that had gone on they had backed him and they are some of the best FANS in Football". Do I need to add anything else on this?Ok it's 2:45 am as I am writing this after getting back from Huddersfield so here goes. There may be a Fuel crisis all over the Country but tonight the dons put in a "four star" performance in a 2-0 Victory. Two Brilliant Goals by Hartson saw us bring the points home. The result of the man of the match award for the Sheffield Wednesday game is as follows:-John Hartson 15 votes 58% Kelvin Davis 6 votes 23% Damien Francis 3 votes 12% Jason Euell 2 votes 8%
12/09/2000 The man of th match vote for the Sheffield Wednesday game will remain open until Wednesday morning when it will be changed for the Huddersfield games so if you haven't voted for the Sheffield Wednesday Man Of The Match yet please do.Subject to there being enough petrol in the country I will be a Huddersfield tonight to cheer the boys on. Huddersfield has been one of our happier away games in the past with it being the team that we won promotion to the top flight from, the FA cup match with the last minute equaliser and last year Alan Kimble's goal from which I have still got his shirt.
11/09/2000 Whilst the team travelled north today for the match against Huddersfield one regular member of the party didn't travel. Steve Allen remain at home following his wife giving birth to a baby boy this morning. Congratulations to all.Trond Andersen has updated his web site and it is well worth a read. There was an error in locating the Sheffield Wednesday match report so I have now sorted it go check it out.
10/09/2000 The Worthington Cup match against Wigan at the JJB stadium is likely to be played on the Tuesday 26th September 2000.The Match report is now up for the Sheffield Wednesday Away win. (Doesn't that sound good)Almost forgot to do this but the result of the Preston Man Of The Match vote is given below.Mark Williams 9 votes 53% Chris Willmott 2 votes 12% Jason Euell 2 votes 12% Peter Hawkings 1 vote 6% Michael Thomas 1 vote 6% Damien Francis 1 vote 6% Neal Ardley 1 vote 6%
09/09/2000 5-0!! Yes that is right we were away we scored five times we didn't concede and we picked up our first away win in over a year.It was just stunning second half goals from Francis, Hartson (2) and Euell (2) saw this result come off.
08/09/2000 Tomorrow see's the first of two trips to Yorkshire in the space of 4 Days with the trip to Sheffield Wednesday. Hopefully we will be able to put the ghost of the matches against them behind us from last year and get our first win of the season. For Fans making the trip to Sheffield I hope that we will show what brilliant fans we have and give John Hartson a brilliant reception he cares about Wimbledon and all the time that Wimbledon pay his wages he will give 100%.On Sunday morning Kelvin Davies and Paul Heald will be on Channel 5's football programme at 10:00.Although it doesn't seem to have been announced anywhere it would appear that Robbie Earle has been appointed reserve manager. He still aims to play this season in what he has said will be his last but was in charge on Wednesday night for the reserves.
07/09/2000 Today the Dons were linked with a couple of players Robert Molennar of Leeds failed to agree terms after our bid of £1 million was accepted while it has also been rumoured that we have made a late bid to sign Paul Kitson from West Ham before he completes his move to Birmingham, Kitson teamed up well with Hartson when at West Ham but has been a player prone to injury in the past.A player we have got on trial is Egressy Gabor from MTK Budapest.Tonight's WISA meeting was very well turned out over 50 people turned up for an important meeting about WISA and what we will do this season.
06/09/2000 The Worthington cup has seen us drawn against Wigan with the first leg at Selhurst. The reserves were in action tonight against Spurs. I let 15 minutes from the end when the score was 0-0 The Dons side included Andy Roberts, Lionel Morgan & Paul Robinson while Ian Walker mad a few good saves for Spurs. The Worthington Cup draw is due to be made and I will post on here as soon as it is known.Thursday nights MCTS session will be a bit later in the evening, and will take place once the WISA OGM has been completed all are welcome and the meeting starts at 19:30 at Wimbledon Community Centre.
05/09/2000 I was called tonight by Robin Hawkes who is a big Dons fans and also friend of the players, last Season Ben Thatcher would take him to and from the training ground as he lived near him tonight he called me about John Hartson.John wants the fans to know that he is still 100% Wimbledon he asked that the word be spread and also that it was put on web sites. John's view of events was that he had a phone call to say that we had accepted an offer from Rangers and it would have been silly for him not to go for it. He knows he is a few games from fitness but says he will go out and give his all for the Dons. At no point in his dons career has he asked for a move.Wednesday night should see the reserves in action at Gander Green lane against Spurs kick off 7:30pm.
04/09/2000 With the international weekend their is still little news about.Mark Williams was on the bench for Northern Ireland in their 1-0 victory while Trond played in a 0-0 draw for Norway.Terry Burton was on Radio 5 this afternoon he answered various questions that just sort of went over old stuff. He said that a lot of the injuries were old ones from the end of last season, he thought the price for Herman was right, and he didn't want John Hartson to go but had to let him know that Rangers had come in for him.The new away kit seems to be on open sale in JJB sports and if you contact the club they will send it to you, you can call then on 020 8771 2233.
03/09/2000 So it wasn't quite a football free weekend for me as I went down to watch Carlton Fairweather Football Club Vs Parkway Football Club in a Sunday Morning pre-season game. Why? you ask well both teams are packed full of Dons Fans and for the record Parkway came out 3-0 winners in a good game. There appears to be no news today but quite a busy week instore this week with the Reserves on Wednesday at Sutton, The Worthington Cup Draw and also the WISA meeting on Thursday (prior to MCTS)
02/09/2000 With everything that was going on this week I didn't get round to putting the results of the Watford Man Of The Match vote up so here goes.Kelvin Davis 11 votes 35% Lionel Morgan 6 votes 19% Peter Hawkings 5 votes 16% Jason Euell 3 votes 10% Michael Thomas 2 votes 6% Neal Ardley 2 votes 6% Trond Andersen 1 vote 3% Mark Williams 1 vote 3% With no game this weekend I will now put up the vote for the Preston game click below to vote.
01/09/2000 So a football free weekend and a chance to all calm down a bit following the events of the week so far. Over the weekend I think i will put together an article about where I currently see our Club.Jason Euell is being linked to a move to Newcastle and it could well be completed next week. Our move for the Swedish player Par Karlsson who was due to move to us once their season had finished but it would appear that his club are disappointed about what has gone on so he will move to us next week.
