May 2000
31/05/2000 First Of all On Tuesday my site had it's 30,000 visitor can I just say thanks to every one that reads it. And advance warning expect to see a brand new design for the site in the next 4 to 6 weeks. The Season Ticket Applications have now been sent out and all I can say is Congratulations to Wimbledon it is a brilliant document and uses the "Womble 'Till I Die" Slogan.Click On the Prices page for full details. The above information is the (C) copyright of Wimbledon Football club.Neil Sullivan (Still classed as a Wimbledon player) represented Scotland in their 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland.
30/05/2000 Carl Cort last night (Monday) scored one of England's Under 21's side Six goals. In the poll I ran on my site about who do you think that we would play next season out of the play off teams half of you went for Ipswich and Gillingham and Half went for Barnsley and Wigan. Sorry about the Error that had Ipswich and Wigan twice rather than Barnsley and Wigan.
29/05/2000 The Norwegian Euro 2000 squad has been announced and as expected Trond has been named in the squad but Lund missed out as they selected additional cover for the Left Back position. Lund is rightly very disappointed about this.Ipswich finally manage to win the play-offs and therefore we will play Barnsley next season who are managed by Sir Dave Harry Bassett. Once again he will get a brilliant reception from the Dons Fans.Following sully move to North London some sections of the Media are suggestion that their could be an exodus with players like Cort and Euell putting in transfer requests, now correct me if I am wrong but I thought that Euell had put in at least 4 request already and Cort had put two in.Kenny Cunningham had to pull out of the Republic Game against Scotland this week as he still hasn't recovered fully from the injury he had at the end of the season.
28/05/2000 So Sully has completed his move to Spurs even being pictured in the News Of The World in their shirt.A lot of fans will feel let down with Sully going to Spurs with most of us hoping that he would of gone to Arsenal, Man U or Celtic but Sully has made his choice and I wish him all the best with his International career.Sully has made the following quotes about Wimbledon : -This last season with Wimbledon has gutted me. I can't describe how disappointing it was but we all have to take the blame for the way we performed for most of the season. "But if they appoint Terry Burton full-time I honestly believe they will come straight back up. There were so many things that went wrong and so many things we should've done better but it's too late now"."I feel so sorry for the fans there because they were always brilliant and I won't forget them. It was a real wrench to leave but it was something I had to do."Norway played their final match before Euro 2000 on Saturday night but neither Trond or Andreas were in the side. The 22 for Euro 2000 will be named early next week. Trond should be named but Lund may miss out.The News Of The World reports that Dons Target Nigel Winterburn was about to complete a move to West Ham when Arsenal said they wanted £500K transfer fee as he has 1 year left on his contract. Winterburn said he had an agreement with Arsenal that he could move on a free. This may mean that any chance of him returning to the dons has stopped.Congratulations to Gillingham following their dramatic 3-2 win after extra time in the 2nd division play-off.
27/05/2000 The Nationwide fixture list is due to be published by the 24th June. As soon as I have details I will post them on here. The Season Ticket Application forms are being printed at the moment and therefore we should be sent them in the next 10 days or so I would think. It would appear that sully has elected to sign for Spurs on 1st July. This is the date that he no longer has a contract with Wimbledon and therefore can move on a free transfer. The Sun reports that Nigel Winterburn is being lined up to join the Dons in a player coach role. Th Story goes on to say that Thatcher will go and that Terry Burton will be given the Manager's job full time this week.Congratulations to Andy Clarke and Peterborough on winning the 3rd division play-off last night. Andy Clark was very popular with the dons and it was nice to see him get the goal.
26/05/2000 So Stewart Castledine has joined Wycombe to re-link up with Lawrie Sanchez and Terry Gibson, thanks very much to Stewart for his time at the Dons he was unlucky with injury but when he played he gave his all. Cheers Stu.Carl Cort is in the England Under 21 squad for the tournament that starts this weekend.Jason Euell has said he want a Premiership club to come and get him.
25/05/2000 After another successful MCTS evening the majority of people are under the impression that Terry Burton will not be offered the manager role but will be head coach instead. The Standard reports that should Ipswich get promoted Chelsea will drop their interest in Richard Wright (Keeper) and go for sully instead.Once again Kenny Cunningham has said how committed he is to playing for the Dons.
24/05/2000 More pre-season news folks expect to see the Dons play Exeter City on 31st July 2000 and Bristol City on 5th August 2000 as part of their west country tour.Thursday Night is Madame Cholet night so if you fancy a drink meet in the Prince Of Wales pub from 7:30pm.Don't forget with the play-offs this weekend to vote in my poll on my main page.
23/05/2000 The rumoured pre-season match with Luton has now been called off. It was due to be part of the Davis/Willmott signings so may be played some other time.In the June edition of Internet Magazine they ask Robbie Earle about his use of the Internet, he lists his main five sites but I didn't get a mention but we can now add Robbie to the list of Dons players who are on the net (I wonder if he ever comes on here?).Kenny Cunningham has once again been linked with Everton while Euell and Cort have been linked with spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea to name a few clubs.Terry Burton is reported to have flown out to Oslo to meet Mr Gjelsten and discuss the future of the club.I don't often plug non Wimbledon sites but if you are looking for a Euro 2000 site this summer check out The Mirror Groups effort as this has been designed by fellow Dons webmaster Marc Jones. Well Done Marc.
22/05/2000 Now you have heard all about the Madame Cholet Sessions now find out more and check out the sessions own web area. Click her to find out more.Michael Hughes reckons he will be back approximately one month into the next season following his broken leg.Spurs are beginning to put pressure on Sully with regards to signing him for next year. They have apparently not agreed terms as of yet but told him to agree them soon or the deal will be off.
21/05/2000 With the club trying to regain it's roots in the Wimbledon area starting with the news of the training ground I would suggest people click on the new link to the Wimbledon Civic Forum. The forum has been doing quite a bit of behind the scenes work with regards to the Dons returning. I will be adding an article in the next couple of days on this.I have added a new poll on my front page based on the weekend's playoff games. The question is who do you think we will play next season? The Poll will close next Saturday lunchtime please have a look and cast your vote.As you can imagine Dons news is getting harder and harder to find at the moment this may mean that the news may stop for a while but I will start doing changes to the site and more opinion based stories. One story that is doing the rounds today a spurs web site says that Sullivan has decided to join them due to the fact that they made a better offer than Arsenal.
20/05/2000 A story that I forgot to mention the other day is that it is reported that Robbie Earle will be offered a new contract to remain at the club.News is beginning to come in about the Pre-season games that we will play and one of the first ones that seems to have been confirmed is away at Torquay United on Wednesday August 2nd Kick off 7:30pm I will of course be their to report on the match. The result of the Man Of The Match poll for the Southampton games is as follows: -
Neal Ardley 46 votes 96% Neil Sullivan 1 vote 2% Trond Andersen 1 vote 2% Can I thank everyone who has voted this season and will continue you it next season.
19/05/2000 Stuart Castledine has been released by the club. He says he is in talks with three different club but will still make visits to the training ground and be on the Channel 17 show. Stuart is also getting married in the summer and I wish him the best of luck in all areas of his life.Another player who has moved on is reserve goalkeeper Bryn "Geri" Halliwell who has moved to Scotland. Some interesting news about Selhurst Park today Croydon Council have said that the Arthur Waite Stand will not be granted a safety certificate for next season unless work is carried out on the roof. The contractors have said that unless work is started soon it will not be completed in time for the start of the season.Tonight the Thursday night Madam Cholet crew are off to the Dogs and will be at Wimbledon Dog track all are welcome for an evening of singing "Who Let the Dogs Out"
18/05/2000 I understand that Friday see's the last day that the players report in prior to their summer break. I am working all day so wont be able to be down the Training Ground but if anyone does go can they let me know if their is any news.Alan Kimble has said he want to stay with the Dons even though we have now been relegated, he has a year left on his contract but want to sign an extension to his current deal.If you are in the Wimbledon area tonight and fancy a beer or two come down to the Price Of Wales pub for the Thursday night Madam Cholet Relegation Therapy session special. The nights fun starts at 7:30.Also at 7:30 tonight see the last in the season Reg and Stu shows on Cable tune in to see Reg hand over money.
17/05/2000 Trond and Andreas Lund have been called up to an "Overseas players" Norwegian training camp prior to their Euro 200 squad being selected. The papers today reported that all the Norwegian players (except Trond) plus Walid could be on their way out in the summer. In my opinion I think Andresen and Lund could do well next year and would like to see them stay.Due to a slight error on Tuesday night i managed to overwrite my Guestbook and lost a couple of messages that i was going to reply to if anyone posted them could they do it again please so I can respond cheers.
16/05/2000 Sully has turned down a move to Spurs at the moment he says The Scotland keeper, who has been linked with Arsenal and Celtic, on Tuesday night said he won't decide his future until he comes back from his holiday. He says he's "too drained" after the Don's relegation last Sunday to make a decision yet. "There's been a lot of rubbish around about me in the last few days due to my situation and, to be honest, I'm sick of it," he said.Thursday night sees the Regular "Madam Cholet Therapy session" it takes place at the Prince Of Wales pub in Wimbledon outside Centre Court.I have now produced the match reflection for the Southampton game go to the Reports section to see what I have to say.On Saturday I forgot to post the result of the Aston Villa Man Of Match poll so here goes:-Neal Ardley 42 votes 82% John Hartson 5 votes 10% Trond Andersen 2 votes 4% Jason Euell 1 vote 2% Damien Francis 1 vote 2% The poll for the Southampton match is now open and I imagine the result will be pretty much the same :-)The reports are strongly linking Sully with a move to Spurs and us getting Espen Bardsen from them.Over the next couple of days/weeks I will be doing my normal updates and reflection on different parts of the season, not just season review. And next season I can assure you that I will give a full service as ever on all aspects for the Dons. The current play-lists of radio itmustbedons consists of Happy songs do people want some not so happy songs? for Example Everybody Hurts, Rise, Secret Smile and Angles please let me know if you would like these tracks added.
15/05/2000 First of all an apology. Due to an emergency session of the Madam Cholet Therapy session I haven't got round to doing a write up of the weekend's events. The MCTS tonight was held on the grass outside the Hand in Hand pub on Wimbledon Common where 7 wombles spent the evening drinking champagne and thinking of next season. I promise a full report on Tuesday evening. If people want to make comments about the season or just about the Dons in general don't forget to post to my Guestbook all that I ask is that the messages are polite (no swearing) and don't let's get in to a who's fault it was argument.Ben Thatcher has told fans that he still wants to stay at Wimbledon even though we are in the Nationwide league next season. The Man Of The match vote for the Southampton match is now open click below to Vote.
14/05/2000 It's 11:40 and I have just got home from Southampton. Report on Monday but as you are well aware now we have been relegated following our 2-0 defeat at Southampton. For the people that have to go to Work on Monday (myself included) go in heads held high and be proud of Wimbledon Football Club.So this is it "The Big One, The Showdown" the game where we can keep our Premiership status and springboard our future. To everyone going "Be Loud, Be Proud" to people not going sing at the TV/Radio we know you are all behind the Lads.At the training ground yesterday Lars was about he will be at the game today cheering the boys on. Drillo was asked on Norwegian TV about if he "Cared" about the Dons result today and he said "he would always care about the Dons."One last thing to think about before I head off to the game the following quote was on the Daily Mail/Soccernet Site.'Wimbledon's has been a fairy story but the reality is this - who is a Wimbledon supporter? They don't even have their own ground,' said Richmond.
13/05/2000 If anyone wishes to send a message of support to the players and team the details are as follows: -Tel 023 80 633033 Fax 023 80 633066 e-mail grandharbour@devere-hotels.com Address The Grand Harbour, West Quay Road, Southampton, Hampshire,SO15 1AG make sure that messages are sent by 12:30 on Sunday. The atmosphere down the training ground today was pretty good all players and management seemed ready for Sunday's game.Kenny Cunningham trained away from the main team today and seemed ok I think we will atleast start with him.An interesting bit of team news could be on the Left Side of Midfield, don't be surprised if Alan Kimble plays their on Sunday. As you most probably know Sky sports have the game on sky sports 3 and Sky Sports Extra. If you were wondering how they are going to cover both games on Sky Sports Extra have a look at this screen shot.I am pretty sure that peoples nerves are beginning to kick in for Sunday's game now. It's difficult to explain how big this game is for the club. In my opinion if we stay in the Premiership we will really rocket. For people going to Southampton (even if they don't have a ticket) can I suggest a few Do's and don'ts.Do - Support the team for the complete game, we have heard how much they value our support. Do - Get the 10:30 train from Waterloo along with lots of other Dons fans Do - Join us in the Winston Arms on the corner of the road that the Away end is on. (It does have an area for kids) Do - Hold the Womble Till I die Posters up before the game. Do - Sing the Word's printed on the back of the WTID posters.
Do - Whatever the outcome show that we are the best fans in the world. Do - Come Down to support the team even if you don't have a ticket.don't - Run on to the pitch at any point even after the game this could well lead to being arrested and banned from football for atleast 1 year! Don't - Buy tickets off touts in the home end if you are wearing full Dons gear. don't - Smoke in the away section (It's Wood) and you will be thrown out.
12/05/2000 Ben Thatcher wants to extend his contract with the Dons. He says he has two years left on his current deal but want to talk to Gjelsten and Rokke about extending the contract. The ref for Sunday is Stephen Lodge who happened to be in charge of the match at Watford. He also did the game against Southampton at Selhurst Park. Before I get into the news about training today some advanced information about Saturday.Training will start at about 1pm and will last for about one and half hours before the players will leave by coach to travel down to Southampton for Sunday's game.Once again today Kenny Cunningham, Hermann Hreidarsson and Dean Blackwell didn't train the only doubt for Sunday is Kenny who will have a run out on Saturday before Terry Burton makes the decision as to if he will start.Michael Hughes has now left hospital and will be at the Dell on Sunday to cheer the team on.Meanwhile Robbie Earle is likely to remain in Hospital for the next couple of weeks. Part of his injury is that he had a minor tear to his pancreas this was checked yesterday and doesn't need additional surgery. He very much wants to be at the Dell on Sunday but will have to watch it on Sky Sports instead. Steve Allen the Physio added that he expect Robbie to be fine for next season.I have added messages of support from the following people at the club. Terry Burton ,Paul Heald ,Steve Allen & Kenny Cunningham.Capital Gold will be having the Southampton Vs Wimbledon game as their live match on Sunday so if you are unable to make Southampton or don't have Sky you can listen to the drama here.
11/05/2000 I have added the text versions of the player comments on the radio section of my site click here to read what they had to say.The players have today off so the Wimbledon News is a bit on the quite side today, so instead I will just let you know about a round-up of events with regards to the Weekend.Tonight being Thursday see's the Reg and Stu show on Channel 17 on Cable TV in the South London area.As mentioned on the Reg and Stu show last week Thursday night is also "Madam Cholet Therapy Session" starting in the Price Of Wales Wimbledon at 7:30 join other Wimbledon Fans for a drink or two in build up to the Weekend.Friday see's me down the training ground where I will get all the latest news in the build up to Sunday's game.A large group of Wimbledon Fans will be on the 10:30 train from Waterloo on Sunday morning join us if you wish otherwise we will see you in the pub by the away end of the ground.

Training this week will take place on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday before the team head down to the South Coast for Sunday's game.On the Injury front Kenny Cunningham classed himself as very doubtful for Sunday's match. Hermann, Dean Blackwell and Jason Euell also didn't train but Jason spent the morning being a linesman and having lots of nasty words shouted at him. While I was down their I also presented Trond Andersen with the IT Must Be Dons Player of the Year Trophy he seemed really pleased with it and thanked everyone for their support and voting for him. Also while I was down their I noticed that on the door to the laundry room inside the Club House was a yellow "Womble Till I Die" poster. So even the staff are involved in showing off the posters. On Saturday their was a situation where a guy in a White Dons top was seen running down the Tunnel being followed by the police. I can reveal that the Guy's name is Dean and has been a Dons Fan for years. what Happened was that he jumped on the pitch ran up and congratulated Hartson and asked if he could have his top.
Hartson said yes but not on the pitch and he was to follow him. Next stewards and Police try and get to Dean and Hartson say "Leave Him Alone He's with me" Hartson Hands him his new Puma top and today Dean got it signed by Hartson. Dean also added that he will be wearing it to Southampton. I mentioned to John Hartson that their was a report going round saying he had made a gesture at an official and he just laughed.

I told him that I was honoured to have been his Kit sponsor and wished him all the best for the future.John Barnwell the leader of the League Managers Association (The Managers Union) has criticised Joe Kinnear over the comments he made about Drillo last Sunday.John Hartson told Terry Burton that he was not feeling 100% fit and so told Terry that he would start on the bench if Terry wanted.Following the playing of "WE ARE WIMBLEDON" at the game yesterday I will be putting together a page with the Lyrics and an MP3 of the song. The Man Of The match vote for the Aston Villa match is now open click below to Vote.

04/05/2000 The news I hoped to bring you today was with regards to the new Kit for next season. Today at the Training Ground the new kit was Launched to the players Me and Marc Jones were shown it also, but unfortunately I was unable to take any pictures and therefore I can only describe it for you.HOME KIT - Same as this years (Blue and Yellow) except no Crazy gang Logo on it and on the back no Yellow line for the name to fit on it. On the front is the dons Badge over your Heart and just the Puma (No text just logo) on the right hand side. In the Bottom right hand corner is a "Plaque saying Wimbledon Merchandise and Puma.com".THE AWAY KIT as described here is Green now everyone when they saw it thought "Oh No" but I can assure you that it is a very nice shade of Green.THE THIRD KIT is White with Green Lettering. The goal keeper kit was very light blue. The Kit's will be on display at the Sponsors lunch on Saturday and the Players will be wearing the new Home Kit on Saturday. It was press Day at the training ground today but only Kenny Cunningham were allowed to talk to the press. Terry said that the Spirit was good and that this week they had just dealt with the fundamentals of football. As we left the training ground we heard that Drillo was back in Wimbledon so me and Marc Jones decided to go and pay him a quick visit. We knocked on his door and Mrs Olsen answered we asked If Drillo was about and she said yes, she went and got him for us. We then spent about 10 minutes talking to him and it was really nice. He still cares about Wimbledon it clear to see. Cheers Drillo all the best.Lars popped down the training ground today to wish the players best of luck but I wasn't their when he was but it was a top thought of his.
03/05/2000 Hartson has been charged following the Bradford game for which he got a 3 match ban for being sent off for foul and abusive language. When he appears the FA take into account a players conduct over the last five years so he could well be looking at a very long ban.Aage Hareide the manager of Brondby has reported that he does not want to be considered for the manager of The Dons. Joe Kinnear has also said that he doesn't want the job.Jason Euell has been linked with a move to Newcastle where Bobby Robson is thinking of making a £5 million bid for him.The Sun had a whole page of Wimbledon stories today (i bet the man U fans weren't happy) They report that both Lars and Drillo have gone home to Norway "Drillo to live in a Hut" and Lars is having a few weeks off. Lars wishes to remain in football but Drillo just want to relax and enjoy being in Norway. best of Luck to both of them. The current betting to be the next Wimbledon permanent manager is as follows: - 9-4 L Sanchez 6-1 J Fashanu 7-1 R Hartford, J Kinnear 9-1 M Adams, R Earle 10-1 D Bassett, T Burton, M Harford 12-1 S Cotterill, P Taylor 14-1 D Wilson 16-1 R Evans 25-1 V Jones Tomorrow evening I hope to have some interesting news so come back then to check it out.
02/05/2000 For those of you that had your doubts about Drillo just have a read of the following quote that he gave following his departure from the club : -"The only trace of bitterness that I feel is that I won't be able to shout and cheer with the others when we win our final game at Southampton and save our place in the Premier League. I'm convinced that is going to happen." Drillo has a right to feel so bitter about how he has been treated over the past year by the British media but all he is concerned about is hoping that the Dons stay in the Premier League Also while saying thanks to Drillo I would also like to say thanks to Lars for everything he has done this year. As you are all aware I selected Lars for my kit sponsorship after meeting him at the Press and Fans day. He always had time for everyone and always had a smile on his face I am sure that in a few years time we will see Lars in charge of a Huge club. Thanks Lars and all the best to you and your family. So Fash and Vinnie want to manage our club for the last couple of games of the season!.As Drillo departs for Norway he has said to the press yesterday that he was disappointed that Joe Kinnear came out with such an article on Sunday when we had such a big game.So what did go on in the Tunnel prior to the game at Bradford and was this part of the reason that John Hartson was sent off?I have added a partial report of the press conference and the events that went on on Monday at the training ground I will add more later tonight and tomorrow. On the same subject Steve Allen (Club Physio) called me over to say how important it is that the fans do it again both at the Villa and away at Southampton they were truly stunned by the turnout and noise and if we can keep it up they reckon we will get the points we need. So well done everyone. The man of the match vote for the Bradford game is now open click below to vote.
