October 1999
31/10/99 Well with today being Halloween the horror story today is bought to you thanks to Carl Cort and The People newspaper. In their today Carl says he would like to play for Spurs but all the time he is at Wimbledon he will continue to give his all.The press reports over yesterdays game have been very good a lot of them have actually acknowledged that Drillo has now only lost 1 game in the last 9.I have added the Videos from last nights Match Of The Day action including the Southampton goal which is still difficult to tell if it was offside.
30/10/99 The winner of the Aston Villa man of the match award was Neil Sullivan with 45% of the vote, Carl Cort was 2nd.Marc Jones at "Weird & Wonderful World" has added the best interview with Drillo I have seen. Quite a few of the questions were asked by fellow supporters check it out at "Drillo Interview".So a 1-1 draw with Southampton in a game that we dominated, their will be people that came away disappointed but with 5 minutes to go and being 1 down it's good to get a point. The new Man of the match poll is now open click below to cast your vote.
29/10/99 Olsen should have a full squad for the Southampton match from which to select the team from, it will be interesting to see if Badir and Andresen are in the starting line-up or just on the bench.Egil also says that the match against Southampton is more important than games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as we are not expected to beat them but as one of the teams in the wrong half of the table it is very important to open a gap between us and Southampton.Drillo has said that he has noticed that some of the players in his Squad of 30 are unhappy due to the fact that they are unlikely to get a first team game. He has added that most of the players are up for sale as he needs to reduce the Squad size.
28/10/99 Gareth Ainsworth was is back in training and hopes to be back in the first team squad within the next couple of weeks. At the reserves on Wednesday Sam was saying that their are 5 players who he wants to sell no names were given but Neal Ardley was not in the reserve team.Sam also confirmed that Liverpool had made an approach to sign Ben Thatcher but Ben is not going anywhere.
27/10/99 The Dons reserves beat Derby 3-1 at Gander Green Lane tonight. They now have 13 points from 6 games and have games in hand on everyone in the table. Andresen and Badir both played Badir scored a penalty and Andresen set a goal up.Before the game spoke to Sam one of the things he said was that the press got the 5 players not for sale wrong it should of been Hartson, Cunningham, Euell, Cort, Thatcher and Sullivan if he signs a new contract, Gayle was not mentioned.
26/10/99 The reserves are in action on Wednesday evening at Gander Green Lane when they meet Derby in the Reserve FA Premiership.John Hartson has confirmed that he was disappointed with his display at the weekend and said that for the last few games his ankle strain has been getting worse on Saturday it just gave up on him" so he came off. He still says how well the season is going for him and how he is looking forward to staying with the Dons.
25/10/99 Little news about at the moment, The under 19 Academy Side had a 2-1 victory away at Watford on Saturday to continue their brilliant start to the season.
24/10/99 The Man of the Match poll for the Villa Match is now up and running. The News of the World Today has included Sullivan and Ben Thatcher in their team of the week.Olsen has said that he was pleased with the point but a bit disappointed by the performance yesterday. There was a rather funny incident at Villa Park involving the Dons faithful with Villa's attendance's being well down this season they decided to give the stand behind the goal to kids on free-tickets and locate us into the corner of the two stands this section must have held about 400 people and villa were more than confident based on advance ticket sales that we wouldn't fill it. So when we got in we were told it was a "sit where you want" job. Well with a couple of minutes before kick-off the section was full and a lot of Dons fans were moved into the section next to us. The Moral of this is never underestimate the Dons support.
23/10/99 Just a quick write up on today's match at Villa full match report tomorrow. This was a very well won point with a goal from Robbie Earle MBE but it did look off-side. Carbone stole the show for them and set up Dublin to score. Second half looked like we played for the point sully and Kimble in brilliant form.
22/10/99 Sam Hammam said in tonight's Standard that no English club should approach Neil Sullivan about signing for them for next season prior to his contract running out. Under the Bosman rules Foreign clubs can talk to players in the last six months of their contracts but clubs from the same country cant. Sam is also confident that Sully will re-sign for the Dons.It looks like we will have an unchanged team for the trip to Villa. For those who are thinking of going to the game tickets are available at the ground priced at £20 adults £10 concessions.
21/10/99 Another quite day today in what has been a quite week.John Hartson has once again said he doesn't want to leave Wimbledon and he now thinks he is beginning to justify his price tag.
20/10/99 Once again very quite today. The reserves are in action tonight and I am going so I will try and come back with some news and put it on tonight.Their is a story in the Standard tonight saying that Spurs were prepared to pay £3 million plus Ruel Fox and John Scales for John Hartson and offered £7 million for Cort both offers were turned down flat. The reserves beat Watford 5-0 tonight, Badir, Ardley and Goodman all played. Both Drillo and Lars were at the match.
19/10/99 Their is very little news about today. The reserves should be in action on Wednesday for the first time in 3 weeks the match is at Gander Green Lane against Watford.
18/10/99 Both Dean Blackwell and Ben Thatcher have slight injuries from Saturdays game but should be fit prior to the weekend visit to Aston Villa.Olsen has said that we don't want to sell Cort but if a bid of £20 million was made we may have to give in. He has said he hopes to sell some of the fringe players like Ardley & Goodman. So far this season their have been only four FA Premiership matches that did not have a booking or sending off 3 of these matches have involved Wimbledon.
17/10/99 I have just added the video of the game from yesterday thanks to the Match of the Day coverage the quality isn't brilliant but worth a look. The Sunday People today reports that West Ham are interested in Ben Thatcher but they wont pay the £5 million asking price and would prefer to do a swap deal, well without being rude unless they are talking about Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard they can think again as they don't have any players we want. Thatcher is not available anyway.Egil has said that yesterday was our best performance all round and the first half was very good.Drillo was also asked about Hartson and Cort leaving, Drillo said that although Sam had spoke to Spurs about Cort he did not want to sell either of them.Apart from a report in the Times today the reports were brilliant even going as far as praising Hartson.
16/10/99 Before the Journo's say it I will get it out of the way We have won our first Match at Selhurst since January 9th. The match ended in bizarre fashion when after Bradford scored their second goal the ref blew his whistle to signal the end of the match. As far as I was aware you had to kick off again did Alcock get it wrong.I have added a new Man of the Match option to my site check it out and vote for today's Man of the Match.
15/10/99 On Saturday we have a very big match against Bradford if we can play like we did on Tuesday we should win the match. A win should move us up the table otherwise we could well be in the bottom three. The match at Huddersfield looks like it will be played on Tuesday 30th November 1999, that will mean that the players will be at Boro on the Saturday and Huddersfield on the Tuesday.Lars has spoke to the Norwegian press about the "meeting" the players had with the coaches, Lars says that it was requested by Egil, Lars and Mick as it was one of the first times that all the squad had been together since Sheffield. On the same story Robbie Earle did not do his usual Friday bit in the London evening Standard is their a link? The team news for Saturday says that Hreidarsson and Andresen could well both start, John Hartson is back after his one match ban.Carl Cort has also confirmed that he does not want to leave Wimbledon, top guy.
14/10/99 So the Worthington cup sees us make the long trip North to Huddersfield following their 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday. The match will be played on either 30th November or 1st December and the winners will have a match against either Sheffield Wednesday or Bolton. The Worthington Cup may have increased a step or two on our aims for the season following the departure of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool last night. As I said the other day I was interviewed by Aftenposten a Norwegian newspaper unfortunately what they have me down as saying is not quite accurate this is what they said I said: -"No matter the weather, wind or sickness , 29 year old Paul Raymond follows "the Dons" . Since the away game Vs Luton at Kenilworth road in 1989, he's been present at every Wimbledon match. Yesterday was his 490. in a row. Olsens ideas is brilliant. In 10-12 games Wimbledon will be really good.Just wait, states Paul as he is standing inside the Wimbledon supporter shop in Clifton road. The Super-supporter is wearing a suit, naturally with a Wimbledon jersey on top of the shirt and tie. Of course he's not happy with the start of the season. Ten league games and only one win, and that one came on the first day of the season, doesn't warm his football heart. Neither does conceding 23 goals. Wimbledon is in a learning process under Olsen. He showed with the Norwegian national team that he knows his stuff. They beat the best teams in the world all the time, but the English press doesn't care about that. The part where they said we would need 10-12 more games I actually said we had only played 10 matches so we are still in the early part of the learning curve. I did not say that I was not happy with the start of the season I think we have had two bad matches and we all know about them. I also didn't comment on the fact we had conceded 23 goals. On the Subject of Norway I would be very interested to here from anyone who would like to translate any stories that are in the Norwegian press into English, or that I could send stories to that I see and assistance provided would be given a full credit in the Story. If you are interested please e-mail me cheers.
13/10/99 It's been a busy day today so lets get started.tonight we find out who we will play in the 4th round of the Worthington Cup with Chelsea and Huddersfield playing at Stamford Bridge. The draw will be made over the next couple of days as to where the match is played but as you are well aware over the past few years we have met these two teams on a regular basis in cup competitions. The Evening Standard has another story linking Carl Cort with a £7 million move to Spurs, as previously stated this story has no basis as Carl does not want to leave the Dons and Egil and team don't want to sell him.The Standard also goes on to say that an "Inside Source" on the playing staff aid that Egil non appearance at the game on Tuesday was very sudden and may have been due to the fact that their was a "Players Rebellion" on Monday when Robbie Earle was sent to see Egil and say the players wanted to go back to playing like they did last year. My response to this is why did Carl Cort refer to it as "High Pressure" on the interview this is an Egil phrase could this be more mischief making within the team If this is the case the player concerned can leave if they don't like it.At the match tonight were two ex Dons Chris Perry and Andy Clarke now this is the 2nd or 3rd time that Chris has been to a match this season top guy.So the Hopes of England could be destroyed by a Dons player! with England Vs Scotland in the Euro 2000 play-off England's strike force will need to beat Sully to move on to the Finals. In the other matches Kenny Cunningham and the Republic of Ireland face matches against Turkey to reach the finals. The quote that was credited to me in Aftenposten was not quite right I will give my version on Thursday. My match report of the Sunderland match also has goal action from Carlton Sport this was filmed off my 14 inch TV so the pictures are brilliant but if you haven't seen it yet your in for a treat.
12/10/99 Egil Olsen was not at the match today due to the fact that he was a bit under the Weather. We managed to beat Sunderland 3-2 after Extra-Time tonight with a Carl Cort hat-trick, this now means that we play either Chelsea or Huddersfield in the 4th Round.I will do a full report on Wednesday evening.Prior to tonight's match I was interviewed by Aftenposten a Norwegian newspaper I am in the process of getting an English translation but if you can read Norwegian the report can be found at "Aftenposten Newspaper interview."
11/10/99 The Official Site reports that Hermann Hreidarsson has signed for the Dons and will wear number 30.In last nights international matches Israel reached the Play-offs for Euro 2000 even though they lost to Spain 3-0 thanks to the fact that Austria beat Cyprus 3-1.Tuesday Evening see's us play the third round of the Worthington Cup against Sunderland I trust that the players will put in a better performance than the last time they ran out for the Dons. The only current team news is that John Hartson is suspended following his sending off against Spurs.Their was a lot of press speculation over the weekend that we have won the race to sign Hermann Hreidarsson from Brentford a fee in the region of £3 million is believed to be being paid.
10/10/99 In yesterdays report I said that Carl Cort was substituted for England after 75 minutes well it actually should of been he came on after 75 minutes, this means he had an even better game than I thought. The People reports that Carl Cort will sign a 5 year £3 million pound contract with the Dons, This should finish all the stories about him wanting to leave. While England were hoping that Poland didn't get a result against Sweden, Kenny Cunningham's Republic of Ireland ended up joining them as they conceded a last minute goal. Kenny Cunningham had set up Ireland's goal and that would of guaranteed them a place in the finals.Israel were due to play Spain yesterday in a group decider but it is now going to be played today.Hartson and M.Hughes both played for their countries in defeats (2-0 Wales and 4-1 Northern Ireland). The News Of the World reports that Egil is closing in on Andreas Lund (Striker) he is valued at £4 million any move will not go through until the end of the first part of the Champions League has been completed.
09/10/99 The impressive scoring run of Carl Cort in England U-21 internationals continued last night after he scored the 3rd in a 4-1 victory over Belgium. He also set up the final goal as well and was then substituted after 75 minutes.
08/10/99 Martin Andreson our new signing played for Norway U21 today in a 2-1 defeat but managed to get sent off.Not much going on a the moment with the International matches this weekend.
07/10/99 With Scotland guaranteed a Playoff place Craig Brown has said Neil Sullivan will not play for Scotland on Sunday, he has not been dropped they are just giving one of their other players a game.Ben Thatcher has been linked once again with Liverpool and Spurs even though he has more than 2 and a half years on his contract. In the Evening Standard today the back page says what Harry Redknapp thinks of John Hartson when you read the story it gives a silly story of people remember where they were when famous things happened Redknapp claims that football fan remember where they were when Hartson had his training ground bust up with Berkovic, I think not.
06/10/99 The Reserve game that was due to be played tonight has been called off, this is the second week running that the reserves have not had a match.Neil Sullivan kept a clean sheet for Scotland last night to make sure that they finish second in their group and get a play-off place.Marcus Gayle has pulled out of the Jamaican squad for this weekend's game so that he can be fully fit for the Dons. The Standard reports that we are going to make an increased offer for Hreidarsson from Brentford once he gets back from international duty.
05/10/99 Sullivan should play for Scotland in their match against Bosnia tonight. The Reserves should be in action against Southampton tomorrow night at Gander Green Lane.Egil Olsen has invited 5 Norwegian youth players aged between age 16 and 18 for a one week trial at the training ground.
04/10/99 The newspapers that I saw today were fairly fair to us basically blamed the players the sun had a good quote of "We have gone from the Crazy Gang to the Couldn't Care Less Gang" and that's what it looked like.Cast your mind back a week to when John Hartson was sent off after Two yellow cards well we were going to appeal but the FA said "Sorry cant appeal over two Yellows only straight Red" ok then JH gets a one match ban, what happens? Saturday Steve Staunton (Liverpool) goes for Two Yellow cards guess what happens today? second one removed by the ref following an appeal seem strange to you? does me.
03/10/99 I have added a new section called Season so Far this looks at the matches we have played so far and if The Olsen system is working check it out and let me know your views. The Drillo hating media have continued after yesterdays poor result Football 365 have decided that it would be fun to have a poll on would it be good for football if Wimbledon got relegated, I have already sent a letter of complaint regarding their story and poll to the editor.Apologies that the site has not been updated for the past day or so I have had a problem with uploading files.
02/10/99 This is just a quick write up after the Sheffield Wednesday match.First the good news, We have signed Martin Andreson for about £2 million.Today we put up a very poor performance at Sheffield with the final result being a 5-1 defeat. It would appear that their may have been 1 or 2 difference of opinions in the dressing room after the game and perhaps this fire could also be shown on the pitch as well as off it. I will do a full write up on Sunday.
01/10/99 Saturday see's an important match against Sheffield Wednesday we have a fully fit team for the match.
