November 1999
30/11/99 Just a quick update prior to heading off to Huddersfield. When talking to Drillo yesterday I spoke to him about the "Letter of hate" that he was sent to say how bad I thought it was he told me that "Only two were sent and they weren't that bad, the media blew it up". Is this more proof that the media don't like Olsen?
29/11/99 It would appear that my exclusive on Steve Allen may not have been true! Steve Allen was down at the training ground today and it didn't appear that anything was wrong. The team news for the trip to Huddersfield will see a number of changes Hermann Hreidarsson is cup tied and Trond Andersen is injured with a back injury that he picked up on Saturday, it also looks as though we will rest John Hartson again so the team line up will be as follows:-
Sullivan
Cunningham, Thatcher, Blackwell, Kimble
Cort, Earle, Roberts, Euell, Gayle,
Leaburn Drillo was very annoyed when he got home and saw the action on Match Of The Day as to why the goal was disallowed. Also talking to Joe Dillon who is one of the Kit Managers for the club he said that he thought that Saturday was the best we had played for two years! He also likened Leaburn to Fash saying that Leaburn was very much like Fash in being able to hold up the ball.Just a reminder that if you haven't voted for the man of the match at the Boro game Tuesday will be your last chance this will stay open till I get back from Huddersfield at about 2am Wednesday Morning!!
28/11/99 Comming back on the train last night I managed to get quite a bit of information from the players and management.John Hartson failed a fitness test on Saturday morning he could of played but it may of meant that he missed additional matches he is very confident of playing on Tuesday at Huddersfield. On Tuesday night we will be without Hreidarsson due to the fact that he is cup tied in the Worthington cup after playing for Brentford in the 1st round. The players were pleased with the Clean sheet but disappointed that they didn't take all three points.Lars confirmed that the goal wasn't offside and even the Boro players and fans confirmed this!Marcus Gayle had a bit of banter on the platform when he saw one of our fans with a shirt with Cort on the back he said "Burn that shirt he cant even score from 2 yards!".Spoke to Trond about his Web Site and congratulated him on what he was doing he said he will be improving it over the next couple of months.
27/11/99
* * * * * EXCLUSIVE * * * * * I understand that the contract of club Physio Steve Allen has been terminated following a difference of opinion between Steve and Drillo. This information was provided by a player on the train journey home tonight. The question was asked following the fans noticing that Steve was not on Duty today.Today's 0-0 draw at Boro was a brilliant result in a match that we dominated we had one goal disallowed for offside (Since proved that it wasn't) and Cort missed one from 2 yards out.Full report on Sunday but the man of the match vote is now open.Just before I set off for the trip to Boro the result of the Leicester Man of the Match vote was as follows.Marcus Gayle 18 Votes Trond Andersen 6 Votes Jason Euell 2 Votes
26/11/99 We have two major injury worries for Saturdays game at Boro. Kenny Cunningham and John Hartson pulled out of Thursday Training and may not play on Saturday.Lars has reminded the English media that if Keegan is looking for a Left Sided player they could do no worse than have a look at Ben Thatcher.
25/11/99 This weekend see the first of two long trips north in 4 days for the Dons, With a League match against Boro on Saturday and then a trip to Huddersfield on Tuesday.Next week I am off work so apart from going to Huddersfield on Tuesday and sleeping Wednesday I hope to get down to the training ground on Monday and Thursday I will do a full report back here.
24/11/99 In last nights reserve game we lost 3-2 to Arsenal. We were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Ardley and Owusu but Paul Heald conceded 3 goals. On Tuesday Alan Kimble, Ben Thatcher and Kenny Cunningham all missed training due to injuries that they have.Adult ticket prices for the Barnsley Cup match will be £13.00 for the Homesdale Lower Tier.
23/11/99 The Reserves are in action tonight at Arsenal but played at Borehamwood the match kicks off at 7pm.
22/11/99 So with the cup draw pairing us with Barnsley it means a return for one of our best managers of all time in Harry Bassett. He is guaranteed a great reception for the match.Gareth Ainsworth has suffered another knock and it will be a couple more weeks before we see him in action.
21/11/99 The FA Cup 3rd Round has seen us drawn as follows: -Wimbledon Vs Barnsley The match is to be played on the weekend of 11th December 1999.I have sorted out the problem with the Leeds video it is now available to view. The Man of the Match Poll for the Leicester match is now up and running.Th News of the World reports that Leicester and Derby are interested in Michael Hughes. they also report a rather funny incident involving Duncan Jupp ho came back from the 3 day break at the health farm with a cut on his head. This came about after he crashed a golf buggy into a tree. Lars is quoted as saying that "You don't expect to come back from a health farm with an injury!"At about 17:45 today (UK Time) the 3rd round of the 1999/2000 FA Cup is drawn I will post details as soon as we have been drawn.
20/11/99 So as suspected Thatcher failed his fitness test and was replace in Central Defence by Dean Blackwell for the Trip to Leicester.Marcus Gayle scored a cracking goal to put us 1-0 up but Leicester replied straight away and scored a second after the break to condemn us to a 2-1 defeat. The good news is that none of the teams around us got more than a point so we remain clear o the bottom three.I understand that their may be a problem with the links to my video action not working I am currently looking into this and will let you know when they are back up.
19/11/99 Sky text reports that Olsen has found it hard since he came to the Dons, He has also had nasty letters after the Sheffield Wednesday match. I trust these people wrote after Leeds to say how well we played and Well Done.Michael Hughes may be on the move to Fulham in a £2 million pound deal. Our only doubt for Saturday is Ben Thatcher who was injured in training this week he will have a test before the match.
18/11/99 So while none of the dons based players teams qualified for Euro 2000 on Wednesday Neil Sullivans Scotland pulled off a brilliant performance and result in beating England 1-0.Sullivan while in goal did not have one major save to make and this could well have been his easiest game of the season. Meanwhile Kenny Cunningham's Republic Of Ireland went out on the Away goal rule and Israel lost 8-0 over the two legs.
17/11/99 As I mentioned last night it was a brilliant result even better when I realised that Leicester were top and although we are only a point behind we have two games in hand. The teams last night were both very strong ours included Davis, Willmott, McAllister, Ainsworth, Ardley, Goodman while Leicester had Arphexad, Walsh, Marshall and Gunnlaugsson. At the moment our only doubt is Ben Thatcher who has a groin injury.
16/11/99 Wimbledon Reserves 4 Leicester Reserves 3!! The Dons were 3-0 up at half time goals from Gray (2) and McAllister (2) saw us win a match with two very good teams. More details Wednesday.Just when we are beginning to start think how long till the next Dons game our wish is answered. Tonight 19:30 Wimbledon Reserves Vs Leicester City Reserves at Gander Green Lane. Result and report to come later.
15/11/99 Walid Badir didn't play for Israel On Saturday in their 5-0 defeat.Trond Andersen played for Norway in their 1-0 friendly defeat by Germany, he was due to play at Centre back and Germany's goal was scored in the last minute of the game.In last Thursday Times their was a brilliant Interview with Kenny Cunningham saying how he doesn't have a Manager or agent and how the only sponsorship deal he has is for two pairs of Boots each season. He also says how he loves playing football and thinks he is well paid!! This is a footballer who is not stuck with his head in the clouds, Nice one Kenny.
14/11/99 Into today's Sunday People it says Fulham may be interested in making a £2 million bid for Michael Hughes.Yesterday was a bad day for the Dons Players hoping to make it to Euro 2000. Scotland as we are all aware were very unlucky to lose 2-0, Kenny Cunningham's Republic Of Ireland once again conceded a late goal to take a 1-1 draw to Turkey and Israel lost 5-0 at home to Denmark.I have now closed the Man of the Match Vote for the Leeds vote and the top three were as follows: -1) John Hartson 26 Votes 41% 2) Hermann Hreidarsson 17 votes 27% 3) Kenny Cunningham 10 votes 16%Andersen, Euell, Kimble, Gayle & Earle also received votes.
13/11/99 So a 2-0 victory for England over Scotland. Sully played very well and was not at fault for either goals. He also pulled off one or two brilliant saves.
12/11/99 The England Under 21's match in Luxembourg against Yugoslavia that should of been played on Sunday with Carl Cort continuing his impressive run of International goal-scoring has been put off indefinitely following demands that the Yugoslavian FA made about security. If anyone fancies watching a Dons side in Action on Saturday morning the Under 19's are in action at the training ground against Q.P.R which is 1st against 2nd in the table.
11/11/99 With everyone else in Euro 2000 play-off frenzy over the so called "Battle of Britain" it time for "It's Must Be Dons" to nail it mask to which team I want to win.The way I look at this match is a complete case of Team with Wimbledon Player in against team without. Therefore I am backing Scotland in the hope that they get through to the Euro 2000 finals.Martin Andresen has been given a two match ban following his sending off for Norway Under 21's just prior to joining us.Trond Andersen has been called up to the Norway team for their friendly match. He apparently heard while updating his own home page. This can be viewed here It is now even in English. The players not involved in International matches have been taken away to a training camp for a few days. Lars has said it will give the players a change of scenery and allow them to play a bit of golf in the afternoon's.
10/11/99 The Reserves lost 2-1 away at Nottingham Forest last night. This now mean after their brilliant start to the season they have lost their last two games.
09/11/99 The reserves are in action tonight with a trip to the Midlands where they face Nottingham forest in a 7pm Kick Off..
08/11/99 The papers seemed to be highly impressed by our Leeds performance although I am a little bit confused how they managed to say that Leeds had the same number of Shots as we did. This week sees the start of players going off for International Duty, this includes Sullivan, Cunningham and Badir who are involved in Euro 2000 play-off games and Carl Cort who goes to Luxembourg for a one off play-off match against Yugoslavia for England's Under 21.
07/11/99 Wow, Brilliant, Superb Incredible these are some of the way's that I have got to describe this performance against Leeds 2-0 it could of been 5-0. A Clean Sheet first in 29 matches! Leeds unbeaten in 13 matches! Full match report will be uploaded shortly. The new poll for Man of the Match is now open click below to vote. The winner of the Southampton Man Of the Match vote was Robbie Earle MBE who polled 67% of the votes, 54 votes were cast.A new poll will open following the Leeds games this afternoon.
06/11/99 Sunday sees us play the current Premiership Leaders Leeds United. This will be quite a test for us and will see how we are getting on under Drillo's system.Talking to Drillo down the training ground today I was surprised to here that once again we will be using "High Pressure" as we have used in the last couple of matches against Bradford and Southampton, the way I phrased it was "I suppose that we will be sitting back a bit compared to the last few games?" Drillo said "No we will still very much be going forward" I said "so we are playing High Pressure" he agreed. He very much thinks we can and will beat Leeds he thinks the strength of our defenders will be very hard for Leeds to break down.Egil is also very pleased with how Hermann has settled into the club.Gareth Ainsworth confirmed that he is fully fit and is now just waiting to be picked. From the way training went it would appear that we are going to play the same team as the last two games that being
Sullivan
Cunningham, Thatcher, Hreidarsson, Kimble
Cort, Earle, Andersen, Euell, Gayle,
Hartson The players all appeared to be enjoying training even Michael Hughes who has had one or two differences at the club. While down the training ground the Under 19's played Charlton and yet again managed a 2-0 victory.
05/11/99 With us not playing until Sunday it has been a very quite day. I am going down to the training ground on Saturday so I hope to have more news then. The Youth Teams are in action Saturday morning against Charlton So I will let you know how they get on.
04/11/99 Before I get on to the Reserve Match against Charlton on Wednesday night I must once again point you in the direction of Marc Jones's "Weird and Wonderful World" web site where he has created "Drillo Zone" this is where you can read all about Zonal against Man Marking, High and Low Pressure and some classic Drillo quotes on "The Dons", "Norway" and "The Universe" to check this out click on the link Below. At the reserve game last night I spent the whole of the first half chatting to Sam Hammam, of the many points that Sam spoke about he mentioned that Charlton were interested in both Neal Ardley and Ceri Hughes. John Goodman could still be on the move to Queens Park Rangers.Michael Hughes has apparently now settled his differences with Egil and is now prepared to fight for his place in the starting line up.Sam also confirmed that Hartson, Cort, Euell, Cunningham and Thatcher are not for sale he would also like to add Sullivan to that list but until he signs a contract it is not possible. After we rejected Spurs bid of Scales, Fox and Cash for Hartson they have now offered Scales, Domingez and Cash for Hartson as you can expect Sam is not even bothering to give Alan Sugar an answer, there are at least two other clubs who are also chasing Hartson. The international squads for the Scotland Vs England match have been announced and only one Dons player is involved that being Neil Sullivan, for the Under-21 Carl Cort has been called up for the one off match against Yugoslavia.
03/11/99 The Reserves got beat tonight 3-1 by Charlton. We had a very strong team out players that were in the team included Waehler (making his Dons debut), Martin Andresen, John Goodman, Neal Ardley and Chris Willmott all played well except Neal Ardley who was a bit below par.I spent the whole of the first Half chatting to Sam Hammam and will put details of what he said on Thursday night, Not all of it can be reported though.
02/11/99 The London Evening Standard reports tonight that the consortium trying to purchase Crystal Palace are in talks with Sam Hammam about securing a long term full ground share agreement at Selhurst Park. Our current deal only has another 6 years to run but the report says Sam is unlikely to commit to a deal without us being given a 50% share of facilities. I would presume this would include a proper Club Shop and a Stand of our own.The reserves are in action on Wednesday night away at Charlton.
01/11/99 The Under-19 Academy had another victory at the weekend away at Norwich. This now means that they have 22 points from 9 matches and are clear at the top of the table.Just a couple of reminders check out the Drillo interview at Weird and Wonderful World. And the vote for Saturdays Man Of the Match is still open. Click here to vote.Last Months news has been moved to the archive section click below to catch up on it.
