January 1999
31st January 1999 The papers agree that it was a very poor game and Kinnear says that the quality of crossing for Hartson was very poor. It is confirmed that it is Hartson's 5th booking and he will get a one match ban Kinnear says that he will miss the 2nd leg which he cant play in anyway! I don't think that this is right he should miss the Villa Game.
30th January 1999 No Gayle in today's team, Roberts suspended, Blackwell and Ardley out. Joe Kinnear's program notes thanks the supporters for the turnout and noise that was made on Wednesday night at the spurs game. West Ham game finishes 0-0 if we had won we would of moved to 5th in the table but we remain 7th.
29th January 1999 Wimbledon have announced that they are interested in entering the Intertoto cup three other clubs have also shown an interest (M'boro, Leicester & Southampton) at present England only has two spaces but the FA may ask for more. The Original plan was for the team that finishes highest in the league that wishes to enter would join at stage 3 (July 17th Approx.....) and the other team in the first round (July 2nd). Team News for Saturday Hartson back to face old club, Gayle doubtful (hamstring) Earle doubtful (back). West Ham should have Di Canio and Foe in the line up.
28th January 1999 Joe Kinnear states that he was happy with the draw last night. The injury that Ginola received (hamstring pull) will keep him out of action for the next week, he is suspended for there game on Saturday but I am sure he will be back in time for the replay on Tuesday. Joe Kinnear has also stated that he has no objections to Dermot Gallagher being in charge of the replay!
27th January 1999 Once again a game with spurs finishes 0-0. So the tension in the 2nd leg will be unbearable. JK has said watching Match Of the Day is like watching the Muppet Show as all they do is suck up to Ginola. Jason Euell played but didn't look 100%. M.Hughes got booked believed to be his 8th booking of the season if this is right he will miss either FA Cup 5th round (Leeds) or Worthington Cup Semi Final 2nd leg. The Evening Standard claims that Chris Perry is stalling on a new deal and is waiting to see what happens, although he still has over two years left on his current one.
26th January 1999 Semi Final 1st leg Day tomorrow the excitement is beginning to rise the team news out of the dons camp is a bit worrying at the moment I hope its all a bluff. Jason Euell is OUT with his ankle problem and Marcus Gayle has a Hamstring problem but Ekoku is back o.s. it may be him and Leaburn up front.
25th January 1999 Most of the match reports from Saturdays game deal with the fact that Dermot Gallagher asked for Ginola's shirt at the end of the game. What write UP's of the game said it was not a very good match (I thought it was a typical British cup tie!) but there were two good goals. Euell (Ankle) and Earle (Back) are doubtful for Wednesday's game. Hartson is not suspended for the game against West Ham (telegraph). The FA are likely to change Gallagher for the replay and he could also be in line for a Fine and a ban for accepting the "Gift".
24th January 1999 The News of the World has an Exclusive that the FA are going to write to Dermot Gallagher (Yesterdays ref) after he asked for Ginola's shirt at the end of the game! Will he still be in charge of the replay? Following Justin Edinburgh's foul on Euell he is now doubtful for the game on Wednesday night. The Draw for the 5th round of the FA cup pairs us with a trip to Elland Road (Leeds) if we can get past Spurs this game will be played weekend of the 13th February 1999. With Sheffield Wednesday beating Stockport in the cup it now means that the league game that should of been played on 13th February 1999 (5th Round Day) will be postponed. With the only other draw in the 4th round being Wrexham Vs Huddersfield it looks as though the replay against Spurs may be the live game on Sky this would be played on Wednesday 3rd February 1999.
23rd January 1999 FA Cup Day - Disappointment after conceding the goal from Ginola. Robbie Earle's goal was a real peach (Firm and Fruity) anyway we all know how much we love Spurs so another trip to WHL is brilliant! Fulham take the award of result of the day after a 2-0 victory at Aston villa.
22nd January 1999 The Gloves Are off The Sun and The Mirror carried stories reminding the country that DG is a diver in case the world forgot! In The Sun Chris Perry was quoted as saying that "DG is a brilliant player you don't know if he will go Left or go Right but you know he will go down" brilliant. Since Hartson has signed we appear to have been linked with players nearly everyday today we are said to be monitoring the situation at Liverpool as Leonhardsen may be on the move the price about 2.5 million (1.2 million less than we got from Liverpool). Tonight's London Evening Standard has the Robbie Earle page in which he says that Mr Reiley got fed up of DG going down so decided that he would not give him anything even if there was the slightest bit of contact. The early team news says that Euell will return while Hartson (cup tied) and Ekoku (International duty) are out. Also named in the Squad are Jupp and Fear I wonder who they might come on and mark? I would not sleep well If I was DG tonight.
21st January 1999 No News reported.
20th January 1999 Charlton Tickets go on sale for the game at the Valley on 8th February (Live on sky - 8pm). Cost £22.00 Adults £15.00 Kids
19th January 1999 The FA are to look into Ginola's antics on Saturday no not the diving but why he decided to try and take on Big Mick, they are going to suggest that he gets some sort of psychiatric help. The ref for Saturdays cup tie has been announced as Dermot Gallagher. It would also appear that Saturdays booking for JH means that he will miss the game against West Ham. As he has an FA hearing the following day we have no idea when his next appearance in a dons shirt might be.
18th January 1999 John Hartson has said he was going soft at West Ham and has been told by JK to "Get Stuck In" well he did that on Saturday now has Two week of fitness training with Daily Thompson. A few of the papers have started to say that we are going back to the "Kick Them In the air" approach, we were getting to much good press any way so it good to be back to the old ways. Telegraph reported that Spurs Fans booed Hartson and we booed Ginola in between we booed each other pretty much accurate. The Times reported that we were now into stage three of Wimbledon's development the first being rise up the divisions then consolidation as a premier league team and now a team capable of spending big money on a player. Most of the players brushed over the Ginola dives but most were of the opinion that the ref was right not to give any penalties. In other words he dived!
17th January 1999 The papers are full of comments from JK regarding Ginola being a cheat. The reports brush over Ginola's diving and concentrate on the fact that Big Bad John (Hartson) was lucky to stay on the pitch after the tackle on Andy Sinton. We have been linked with a 1.5 million signing of Simon Davies from Peterborough (19 year old Midfielder) but I cant see it happening as he is far to cheap for us now!
16th January 1999 The first of 3 consecutive games against our buddies from North London Spurs. A match that prior to yesterday had about as much excitement as watching paint dry now had an added bit of spice (and I do not mean Baby). JH was guaranteed a great reception from both home and away fans alike. From the Dons fans for obvious reasons but from the Spurs fans a player that in the past had played for Arsenal and West Ham and now playing for the Dons was bound to Get something a bit special. The game ends 0-0 but Hartson shows up quite well and after 12 minutes gets booked for a tackle that mean Sinton has to leave the game. Only other talking point was regarding the Frenchman Ginola who showed that you can be booked and then given 5 final warnings and still not get sent off.
15th January 1999 Most Dons Fans wake up and believe that either they have died and ended up in the promise land or the millennium bug has happened 11 and a half months early and the world has gone mad as it is announced that we have spent 7.5 million on one player namely John Hartson!
