Another fudge by the FA. I'm pleased for the Boston fans whilst having every sympathy for Dagenham & Redbridge supporters. It is disgusting that because of this decision the FA appear to be condoning cheating. Well, I suppose we already knew that! The excuse that the Boston board did not know about illicit payments seems to have denied Dag/Red a place in the league. If I'm right that same ploy worked for CK in a round about way. He said that our club was in extreme financial difficulty whilst not having lodged our accounts. Same meat different gravy? Once again the FA has proved it doesn't give a stuff about it's own rules and regulations.

It would be fantastic to see AFCW play their first internationals right on my doorstep! Who knows, maybe in a couple of years....... Are you other Dons fans up for a tour of Scotland? Edinburgh has some great pubs as well, you know!

Paul, I heartily agree. Unfortunately in all the recent shanagins, not just at Wimbledon but in soccer in general, sometimes passion comes to the fore in many different guises. It would be great to see AFC Wimbledon up here. You can imagine the wrench for me that after 42 years following the Dons I moved away leaving behind brilliant memories tainted by greedy speculators. It was my choice to move but not to have my club stolen. I'm starting at the begining by vowing to watch non league again. It looks like Edinburgh City but it could be another "lucky" team. I know Ed Don will join me in many excursions along with another ex- Don's supporter. But always in our hearts will be the Wimbledon story up until the Norwegians arrival(Of course Sam must take his share of the blame but until he showed his hand he and the team gave us all some marvellous times).

I apologise for my flippancy. I was feeling cheeky. Anyway, if you guys do watch ECFC, why not forge some links. Would be great to do a tour of Scotland one preseason, so we can spread the word. I know one fan in particular would like to see us play QoS in a friendly.

Sorry Paul, I appear to have unwittingly started another round of socio-economic political debate. My original post was not meant to drag up all this crap again, which as Paul says, has been put through the IMBDG mincer before. It wasn't even meant to be about Reg alone but just to add to Paul McCarthy's comments that this whole business is made even sadder by the fact that some of us can remember the Plough Lane days as a family club. I can remember sitting in Reg's office waiting to go out and sell programmes to some of you good people, when everyone from Sam or 'Harry' and all the players (but especially Carlton, Sanch, Lurch and Wisey) would come in and chat to ANYONE in that office - yes even the opinion of humble programme sellers was asked for! I held these guys in awe as a young lad, but there they were chatting away to me and making me feel part of the team. It's not something that has only happened to us, but to football as a whole, the loss of the so-called 'family club' and it is a crying shame. I think this is one of the reasons that so many of us are excited about the prospect of supporting a 'little club' again. Ok so TW and I will miss much of what is going on at AFCW, but we have promised ourselves a wee jaunt down at some point and will be adopting a little team of our own up here, probably Edinburgh City. So, come on lads, stop taking comments out of context and get off the high horses?

TW - Whats wrong with cheap 'child' labour? A very over used excuse for large corporations to be targeted whilst the real targets should be the governments who let the orgs in, in the first place. Why does it happen? Go and find out about it or experience it first hand then come back and we can discuss it rather than using second hand cliched statements. Its not the legality of the situation but the conditions that are usually highlighted. Thing is people get that totally wrong. Apologies Paul.

Paul I agree that it's time to close this one but I must reply to Leamington Pete. I hope he never shops in outlet that sells clothes/shoes that have been made by cheap child labour. Nor that he banks/saves with any institution with non ethical or third world interests. I just hope that everything he does is so completely open and correct that he can maintain his obviously high, if somewhat rather dogmatic and stonehearted, standards.

Regarding the "Working at Wimbledon FC Ltd" can I just add a bit that I hope it will be thee close of the discussion. Most of us that worked in someway for the club had it as a dream job and was working for the club before 2/8/01. We all made our choices and people will have there opinions as to if we were right or wrong but we have moved on now so it silly to go over old ground.

WD - I am finding it a little hard to really follow this stance. If you worked for an employer that you knew was killing children, but somehow it was legal (its a stretch but stay with me here) would you stand by stating to yourself that you must keep working for them because your wage is more important?

Leamington Pete, sorry I have to agree with what TW and ED have said. You were lucky it worked out for you.How old are you? You are perhaps young enough to know you would eventually get another job.I would say Reg Davis would have found difficulty in getting another job at his age and principles are difficult to follow when bills have to be paid.I am over 50 and I would certainly not quit my job on a matter of principle. Please just understand the awkward postion some people have been put in.

and before you ask TW, I did not and have never claimed Dole. When I have been unemplyed I have found a part time job somewhere. I worked in Market Research and it was hideous because I had to phone people up at home and annoy them. I left this swiftly as I felt it went against my judgement on how a job should be, I even felt sick going into work. But after being patient I found a job that doesn't fuck people over but helps. If you are working for someone or a job you hate why should you stay in it. Would you work for Milton Keynes FC if you were offered a nice fat pay packet? I would not. I seriously wouldn't. But reading between your argument you would because it would pay the bills.

Leamington (its a town), Warwickshire - Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 10:58:42 (PDT)
To an extent one of the reasons I left my old job was because they were a bunch of wank and I had had so much bullsh_it from them, I left. Thankfully at the time of my discontent a redundancy package was looming, so I kept still and walked out with cash. Anyone who knows me knows that I was first through the door volunteering. The company I am with now believes and is motivated by helping people learn. Whereas when I joined they needed learners for funding. I stood up and even as a new employee I stated that a new strategy was needed. If the learners learn the money comes. Lets look out for the people and learning rather than the money etc. It was unethical behaviour by them. But, along with others, we have changed the thinking. Its paying off. I could have been sacked but I stood up and gave my reading of the situation that I felt it was unethical. Having not worked for a year it was perhaps not a wise choice but that stance has paid off as I am respected and the work I have is good. I have had enough of shutting my mouth. Using the 'bite the hand that feeds you' is a really easy excuse and a cliche. Reg Davis COULD have challenged his employers actions. Resigning would have been one of them.

Just adding to what TW said - Ed. City had the club secretary going round at half time shouting out the raffle numbers - can you imagine Charlie Koppell wandering around a deserted Selhurst next year doing that? 1st prize a return to Milton Keynes, 2nd prize a concrete cow.

Leamington Pete - I did say I didn't expect anyone to have sympathy for him. I was using Reg as an example to underline the points stated in Paul McCarthy's excellent article on how our club has been ruined and all the old faces slowly ousted. I can't blame Reg for staying on whatever his views (which I do NOT agree with) as someone of his 'senior' years would struggle to find work.
Edinburgh Don
- Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 05:28:20 (PDT)
Leamington Pete: do you work? Are you sure that your employers are completely ethically and morally absolutely pure? If not, would you resign? And let the state pay your wages and mortgage from the dole? Reg is an employee whom, like all workers, is paid to carry out his company's bidding. Call it what you like but ninety percent of employed people are in that position, you do not bite the hand that feeds you. If a person suffers from believing in his self then it is a poor show when another human being can not find at least some empathy if not sympathy.

To Edinburgh Don. I have ZERO sympathy for Reg Davis if he has been fired. If any person thinks that they are to be rewarded for staying loyal to the new creation that is MKFC, then they are blind and stupid. Reg Davis should have done the decent thing and resigned as soon as MK was decided. As a Wolves supporter he should know what it is like to suffer as they did throughout the 80's. The fact that he backed those idiots as we were destroyed takes away any modicum of human compassion I may have had for that sad wreck of a football 'supporter'. Sorry Reg, you will stand trial for your crimes.

Going back over some recent postings it's nice to see supporters, of other CCL teams, welcoming AFC Wimbledon. That's how it's in the non league, a lot more friendly. Takes me back, as did last night watching Edinburgh City V Livingston in a pre season. Great fun with the supporters doing all the behind scenes work, programmes,tea-bars and raffles. That's real support, as hopefully our new "Dons" will experience. Still to watch Tranent Juniors and Preston Ath. before I choose my dealer of "soccer fix."

???? or whatever your moniker is - firstly, you obviously haven't picked up much in the way of supporting a club in your supposed 14 years or so if you're still dazzled by the glamour (ahem). Secondly, your parents living near MK means diddly in your justification, as many people who used to support MKFC won't touch the club with a barge pole. Hell, some of my family live near MK and they would be VERY surprised if I didn't turn up to the Wankelmanndome without a can of petrol and a zippo. Thirdly, if you REALLY believe that MKFC will be entertaining people like Man U and Arsenal on a regular basis despite not adding to the squad and selling their best defender ever for relative peanuts you really must be deluded. Oh, and use your real name next time, unless the guy who did your birth certificate was on ecstacy at the time and put "?" instead of recognisable letters.

Fortunatly my parentshave luckily chose to move to Milton Keynes here I will be able to watch them regulary or maybe even get a season ticket. Unlike most of you Wimbledon fans now supporting AFC Wimbledon I will be able to watch in the 2003/2004 season and onwards some great international players like Gary Neville and Wes Brown entertain the wimbledon fans. NOTE: Watch out for 29th July Gordon Banks is set to be named as AFC Wimbledon first choice goalkeeper next season.

For those who may not have seen it, the following appeared in todays Daily Express (17/7) "DONS REEL AS ROKKE SUFFERS" "Wimbledon's future has been plunged into fresh doubt with the club's millionaire Norwegian owner suffering huge losses on the stock market. Kjell Inge Rokke's multi-national shipping company Kvarner has lost millions of pounds in value on the stock market in the past few weeks, and reports yesterday suggested that he faces demands for a huge unpaid tax bill, which is being investigated by the Oslo authorities. Wimbledon, who were in the top half of the Premiership when Rokke took over four years ago are meanwhile continuing their mass clear-out policy. Yesterday Irish international Kenny Cummingham completed his £600,000 move to Birmingham. Express sport has been told by a Wimbledon source that every other member of the club's first team squad is available for transfer. The earliest date they can start playing first team football in their new MK stadium is 18 months away. This means they have to return to Selhurst Park, where they have ground-shared with Crystal Palace for 11 years. Ticket revenue is likely to be almost nil as disgruntled fans have altered their allegiance en masse to AFC Wimbledon, a new club formed only last month in South London" ALL TOGETHER NOW.....SHAME !!! AFC Wimbledon lives Franchise FC doesn't

In our relegation season we were the ONLY side in the Premiership that champions Man United failed to beat, and not only that they never even took the lead against us! As for the hopeless snipers on here, how long will it take you to realise the truth? If you had been at Sutton to watch Wimbledon's football club you would have known that we held our own in the first half and it was the weakened second half side that conceded 4 goals. Still not bad for our first EVER game since we came home.

Excellent site Paul, helping to keep the whole thing rolling along. Is there any way you can put togetehr a list of addresses and capacities for the grounds to visit this season? Also reassuring to always hear of the Dons popularity world wide. When in Korea for the World Cup met a Japanaese/Canadian from Ontario with a Raul shirt on. Have to agree with the Hartley fan, it can only do the CCL good having your club in the League (Rymans loss is our gain). Look forward to meeting you at your ground on the 11.09.02 We have a new manager this season, lately from Maidenhead, so hopefully give you a good run for your money! Also don't forget we beat AFC Wallingford twice last season and then they won the league, so tell your players to win the league you need to roll over on the 11th!

Firstly welcome AFC Wimbledon to the Combined Counties League, we look forward to at least 2 meetings with your good selves this season firstly on 31st August at your gaff and then 25th January at ours. Your arrival into the league is definitley our gain and the Rymans loss and I can see you setting some new attendance records at some of the grounds on your travels, which financially is good news for most of us. Also the press coverage that you seem to command can only do good for the league as a whole. We have a young squad of ex Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet players plus a few ex pro's and in Geoff Holman we have a manager capable of improving on our 6th place last year. In your 'guide to the grounds' the author failed to mention our new changing rooms probably the best in the league, so please don't think your coming to a complete dump! We like yourselves put a large amount of effort into our club and pride ourselves on our humble little ground. Our crowds vary from 75-100 for the smaller games to 200 plus for the Ash United local derby. Thats enough from me and I look forward to meeting you soon, Good luck to Andy Hunt who played for you in the 1st half against Sutton in goal (he was our 1st team keeper last season) and Good luck to you all for the coming season

JCC - also heard about Reg being dinged out. I know that many people reading this site have got a pretty low opinion of Reg, but it's a disgraceful way to treat him. I think he said some things that he wishes he hadn't during the MK saga (although he would never admit it) but having known and worked for Reg for many years, I know he genuinely believes that MK is for the best. I certainly don't agree with him, but that is his rightful opinion and we see again how much CK and the Nogs value loyalty. He took a load of abuse for standing by his employers, and they thank him like that. Apparently Reg will still be programme editor, but the club will not make a penny from prog sales (not just because there will be no-one to buy them!) and instead the new people will take 100% of any profits. That does, of course, also mean that they will be sufferring the inevitable losses and not WFC Ltd. Seems like a stupid gamble to take.

JCC - I don't know any more details or who has been lined up to, only that they are completely taking over production and distribution of the programme. That means that the few prog sellers who remained loyal to uncle Reg and Uncle Charles, putting up with stick from their mates, (not critiscising them - just stating fact) have now had two fingers stuck up to them as well. I know most had quit anyway after the decision, but I knew a couple of people were going to continue. Maybe now, they'll get behind AFC instead of following to MK as planned. I don't expect anyone to sympathise with them, but it just shows how true Paul McCarthy's article is.

Peter, no problems. What with W&WW and WISA down, there aren't many other places to find match reports ATM (BTW, I've also noticed SW19's Army is down too. I think they all use the same server). Only "disappointment" is the fact we didn't break Dulwich's attendance record (1,340 there today, the record is 1,800-odd). But that's only a minor disappointment. The main thing was to see an improvement and that was achieved.

A brief rundown of the game for those of you who were unable to attend. A better overall performance than the Sutton game. Terry changed the entire team at HT. Joe Sherrin didn't play in either half (no injury as far as I could see, just rested I presume). Their goal can from a corner that wasn't properly cleared, allowing the ball to be played back in from the 'D' for Cort to head home unchallenged from about the penalty spot. Our 'goal' was disallowed for offside (although, in truth, the ball was whacked into the net a good 2-3 seconds after the whistle had been blown). As I said earlier, an improvement on the Sutton match but nothing else. When did W&WW and WISA go down BTW?

Looking at last night's start to AFC Wimbledon's career I found myself wondering. I can remember as a 15 year old standing at Plough Lane. Now it's all over for my Wimbledon and I've moved up here to Scotland, perhaps it's time to start all over again. I won't forget my 41 years with the Dons but watch out for Edinburgh City. I'll not follow Hearts or Hibs so maybe another non league club can give me the passion and thrill I felt all those years ago. Good luck to AFC Wimbledon, I wish you well, but nothing can replace those I spent watching Roy Law, Bobby Ardrey,Eddie Reynolds,Les Brown, Ted Murphy, Geoff Hamm, Roger Connell,Kieron Summers, Ian Cooke, Bobby Stockley,Jeff Bryant, Dave Donaldson, Selwyn Rice, Billy(two) Holmes, Micky Kelly, Dickie Guy, Dave (Lurch) Beasant, Mick MaHon, John Cartwright, Barry Cordjohn, I could go on and on but with my apologies to those many I've missed I must stop. But, before I do, if any player who pulls on a Wimbledon jersey can match my Mr. Wimbledon then he's doing well. Because there have been many players who have given everything for the Dons but Roy Law is my number one choice.

Ed Don, Here's the "old git", Yes it was Leytonstone we beat at Highbury in the Semi. Brian Martin( a briallant volley) and Norman Williams scored the goals that took us to the Final 2-1. And that day,(one of my favourite players) Bobby Ardrey went into a tackle and ended clearing the moat, (in those days Highbury had a moat around the pitch), and ended up feet first with the spectators. Oh! If only today's players had the bo**ocks of the Bobby Ardrey's of football, then the game would stand as it should. A wonderful game with a bit of mud, blood and guts.

I have just been thinking (I can't stop thinking about AFCW) that yesterday reminds me a lot of the season Wimbledon won the FA Amateur Cup. Our opponents on that day were of course Sutton Utd. In the Semi Final at Highbury we defeated Kingstonian 2 - 1 (we will now ground share with them) - this is the down bit - one of the teams scored 4 goals - unfortunately it was Sutton this time :( I like the "AFC Wimbledon" chant to the "We've got Trond Andersen".....

Ignoring the couple of moronic messages a couple down. Last night was a brilliant occasion. I got there late so was glad the game was delayed for 1/2 hour. The result didn't matter one little bit, it was just a thrill to be there. I am still attempting to arrange a minicoach to travel from Yorkshire to saturday matches during the upcoming season. Anyone north of Watford Gap who would like to take advantage of a coach rather than drive themselves please email me. The plan is to depart Wakefield Holiday Inn, travel down the M1 using the motorway services as pick up points and hopefully arrive at the games in plenty of time. I've had a couple of quotes from coach companies and the price so far seems to be between £20-25 per person. The more that use the service the cheaper it will be. I really need to know by the end of next week who wants to use the coach so that I can book it in time

Bazwomble you've taken me back there. Those were players who knew what it meant to blue on the Royal Blue & White jersey. Sadly, amongst those you mention Brian Martin has also passed away. Who can forget Bobby Ardrey V Colchester, playing with concussion and his head heavily bandaged. He still got the header in to cross for the winning goal. Apparantley he was completely dazed and at the end of the match, back in the dressing room, he told everyone "We've got 'em going now, we'll murder them in the second half." I'm afraid I don't see that spirit in today's players. Maybe that's why I'm looking to find a non league side up here? In spite of Ed.Don, a Sod maybe but old, never!

Brighton - we've called eachother much worse in the past!! Congrats on the WISA award from the supporters association. I presume that Y&B will be the 'official' programme of AFCW (How I will miss Reg's 'in my opinion' page!) and if so, will subscriptions be available? Dad used to get me a copy, but now the silly old fool has moved up here, my supply route has been cut! Was there any truth in the rumour I saw on one website that Leaburn was gonna play for us? Have not had so much anticipation since promotion to Division one.It is nice to see the spirit of Wimbledon coming through and just hope people do not get too complacent before a ball is kicked. We have not even played a friendly yet let alone all the talk of marching through the lower leagues. I presume that those who are organising these things are making sure there will be a good stock of new shirts, programmes etc. because the demand will be enormous. Great to read all the messages but do we really need to keep harping on about the old club and people who live in Milton Keynes. The old club will be dead in a couple of years and we should only concentrate and making sure the new one works.

Can somebody explain this to me. When WFC had plenty of fans but losing £20k a day, they could not afford to buy Wayne Brown. Now that they have very few fans, they have found £40m for a stadium and are looking to buy said Wayne Brown (Big Tissue). Ooops, sorry, should have posted this in the new Stuff and Nonsense topic, aka WFC OS.

I may be wrong (I often am) but, there is the possibility that both Hughes and Ainsworth will still be with MKFC(aka WFC)this coming season. If that is correct does this not point to a chairman who absolutely did not want promotion, last season? After all a Premiership place would not have gone with the cries poverty.

Robert P, your words; "you say WFC can't prove that it would fold sharpish because they have no proof, but you lot (I presume you mean WISA) CAN prove it". I have a question for you. Why should we be trying to prove something that the club should have made clear months ago now, and, especially, why didn't the FA Commission demand full accounts? What we are pointing out is how ridiculous it is that a case of the importance of WFC Ltd's application to move to MK, argued almost exclusively on a financial basis by the CLUB - no-one else, was succesfully won on the basis of financial 'predictions' by Delloite and Touche, which exempted the existence of many millions of pounds in transfer revenues. If you went to a bank for a loan, you would be asked to prove your need for the money being borrowed. You wouldn't pay thousands of pounds - especially considering you're 'broke' - to a firm of accountants to come up with a spurious financial document that proves that your broke would you? No, you would provide bank statements, credit card details and suchlike proving the fact. What WFC Ltd did was to turn up at the hearing WITHOUT the necessary (official) financial documentation to even prove that they were in debt at all. Where were their accounts for the last year and why are they witholding them? You ask them, but it all seems a bit strange that they're so scared of letting people see them. TBH, I will listen to no argument that WFC Ltd were going broke and that they were too poor to afford a stadium. The club's majority shareholders are rich beyond the dreams of most, and are, quite frankly, a pair of scheisters out to bank a load of money from a property deal, and Charles Koppel is about as believeable as Alistair Campbell when he says "no more spin". If they didn't want to spend any money on the club they shouldn't have bought it and should have sold it on to the Trust or to a sympathetic consortium.
Kevin Rye (publicity@wisa.org.uk)

James, if good to you means a professional team, and you would still support a team in the 2nd Division, would you support them in the 3rd, and at what point would you stop supporting them if they went down to the conference? if they went part-time? if their crowds dropped below a certain level? if another team came along that took your fancy? The trouble with what your saying, James, is that it comes from a perspective totally different to ours. In short, you have not just spent the least year - and more - fighting to save your club like the vast majority of Dons have, and, I am afraid, that's what counts here. You don't understand and we do.
