No complaints about Gibbo. Complete different kettle of fish compared with Randall though

Strawberry it is going to be standing room only in the hall of Fame soon! I think it is pretty sad that he has left and cannot make my mind up whether he did not take his chances last season or he was not given enough chances. When Woollner kept keeping him out of teh side at teh beginning of teh season I could not help feeling that ex Hendon had priority over last year's players. Then I do not want to drag all that up again!

Andy - Wasnt me who asked but pleased to see Martin in there, Having seen Martin away from first team he's a credit to the club, a joker in the dressing room, a teacher to younger players and scored some important goals, he was very proud to have been part of AFC Wimbledon this season.
Paul Raymond (webmaster@itmustbedons.com)

Come on gentleman, how on earth you included Martin in your hall of fame is anyones guess, but as you say its your final word, and someone must have been misguided and asked for him to be included. But if we did'nt have these differant opinions than it would be a very boring game, so keep up the good/clean banter and enjoy it

Dave - he's end. Live with it. Number of games played is not a criteria (Kevin Tilley only played half). We put in who we think. Not everyone goes in, but we've had a lot of heroes in 3 years. I'm sure this will slow down, but at the moment, enjoy remembering the contributions of some excellent men and ignore the ones you personally disagree with.

I would say that if you have a "Hall of Fame" then you must only have the best. If you put it into perspective, then I would never have someone like Paul Fishenden in a Wimbledon Hall of fame. Randall only was third top scorer and only played 30 something games for the club. Although its a subjective not objective analysis, then I would definitely say this does NOT merit the Hall of fame. Its important not to get carried away and put loads of people in - otherwise it devalues the list of genuine players. I would also argue that he was not one of the people who was paramount in bringing the Championship to KM. Some might argue that we brought it home despite him!
Dave
- Monday, May 30, 2005 at 03:53:40 (PDT)
Dave - Randall was 3rd top scorer and made a significant contribution to the championship winning team despite the best efforts of the boo boys and the excellent form of Little Buts. At the end of the day the final decision on whether a player is included is down to me and Woking Jon. We decided he qualified so he is included. We are always open to suggestions for Hall of Fame nominations. Given the diversity of opinions on every aspect of football, there will always be someone who disagrees. I don't want to sound all "it's my website so I'll do what I want", but at the end of the day the final decision rests with us. If anyone has nominees for the Hall of Fame (including reserve, ladies, etc) please email us ideally with a photo, AFCW career stats, an AFCW career summary and the reason why they should be included. Thanks

Dave - I assume that money was planned for it before submitting planning application and it could well pay for itself very quickly so as i said it could happen this summer, it can only be constrected during close season as otherwise would mean part of the ground closed during the season and effect potential gates.

Dave - you may have seen this reply on www but Martin drake said " Dave Hill, cost £40k? Money raised partly by increasing walk-in ticket prices by £1 next season, as was openly discussed at an open meeting a few months ago. Not much effect on the debt TBH. Hopefully improving the ground facilities (and keeping the rain off the best terrace) will also help raise attendances." and was almot word for word what i was going to say.

Andy - Think from the stalls alone in the region of 2.5k at the fun day add in the fact the bar was open and merchandise and you can see it was a good day allround, although the whole day was more about the community. - Regarding parade theere was a suggestion of the Sunday after the season finished but this wasn't possible as mentioned on the o/s it may be too late now as players may well have gone off on holiday etc.
Paul Raymond (paul@itmustbedons.com)

Why has there not been a parade this year through Wimbledon, two cup winnings again and nothing to show, after last year the atmosphere was brilliant and the team deserve a chance to show off, so is anything being done to sort this out ?

Paul, i understand the need for the club to continue evolving but it seems to me that some of the players that have gone could indeed do a job for AFCW at the higher level. I think that it is no coincidence that the majority of the players that were considered good by the supporters are now doing well within their new clubs and Kevin Cooper and the 'boy' Taylor haven't stopped scoring ! But all said and done, this coming season is looking good for a few decent away trips, Margate should be good !

SLW - Unfortunatley Non-League football has a tradition of high turnover of players. does it "loses a bit of its soul every time another face from the early days leaves" we have been about 3 years so it is still the early days. Also Gav joined us in October of the first season so he replaced players. Do I wish Gav had stayed YES Definatley, but a decission has been made for him to leave and i respect that.

Paul, I don't know which source(s) you use to update your table, but I think the official AFC site has a couple of errors in the final table. The records for Bashley and Molesey differ from those shown in the Non-League Paper, Tony Kempster's site and the Ryman League Official site, all of which agree with each other. Of course, they may all use the same source and all be wrong! Just thought you might like to know.

I really hate to say it but yet another really uninspiring away performance. Can anyone explain the logic of playing our most solid central defender on the right where he clearly hates it, someone on the left who just has nightmare after nightmare and virually submit the midfield by not playing Gell there. Would 4-4-2 with Gibson, Gray (remember them? and they played well at Sutton), and Butlet and Howard in the middle so we get a solide midfield and a solid defence. Just how unreasonable is this? Sometimes the tactics really seem just too strange and when it all goes wrong we are realiably told we will never play as badly as that again.

As someone who has not always appreciated Dave's tactics, formations, choice of captain etc, this season, I must say I think he has done a fantastic job over all. The number of injuries we've had could have been crippling, but the speed with which he gets decent cover indicates that he is having every footballer in London watched! It's been a great achievement from all concerned: roll on the final when we can do ourselves justice against Walton.

Fantastic, what a briiliant game last night, so differant from saturday,Paul Smith should have the man of the match after his best performance and should be made no 1 goaly when he recovers. The fans were in excellent voice and well behaved as usual, Cant wait to get back at that other team in the final and get our revenge for last saturday. So we need to get as many fans as poss to go to the final and cheer on the lads at Woking on the 3rd of May, after winning the cup there last year, its a good venue for us.. SO COME ON ALL YOU DONS FANS AND CHEER OUR TEAM TO VICTORY.

A fabulous perfomance and with such commitment. I am Bolger's biggest critic but he was superb and thought Leon and Rob came of age last night. When I saw the team I have to say I thought it would be damage limitation, especially after the first 10 minutes. We dominated the second half and only when the management thought it would be a good idea to break up our series of attacks with unecessary abuse of the officials, did I worry. For the club to continue as we hope it will need this type of effort every week. Are you listening Mr. Smeltz?

Andy - Sorry I doubted you :) - Be careful with the date and venue for the cup final at the moment it's listed as Tuesday 3rd May at Imber Court but a suggestion was that if we got to the final it would be moved, maybe to Woking's ground also that is one of the play off dates and if W&H muck up they may be in play-off action i am sure as soon as the club have a confirmed date and venue they will announce it. My guess is if not that week maybe the week after, but that is only a guess.

I felt Bashley & Whytleafe performances were worse but have to say I thought yesterday was a bit of a disgrace. I think the very fact that they did play like they did against Horsham highlights how they really could not be bothered. For their last five away games they will have 2,000 wombles at each and if tehy think they can play out the season in this semi interest then it will leave a sour taste in the mouth. The main issue was the defence was a total disaster. Walton's sole tactics were from the first to the last minute to hump it up in the air to a couple of not particularly skillful or fast players were we were all over the place. Lewis & Joe have done well enough for us recently but yesterday they looked like they had never seen a football before. They whole back line was totally out of position, slow and and even Howard, who has been excellent this season, was all at sea. There was even one pantomime moment when the only player in our bax was Ursell!! I am afraid my real anger would be directed at Shane though because after 2 good games he has contributed alittle and yesterday he showed no interest whatsoever for teh whole game. Players have off days but quite frankly we might as well played with 10 men especially as his only contribution was to set up their first goal. Every he lost the ball, which was not often because he showed not interest in ever getting to it, he just stood with the face of 'Oh dear never mind'. Whilst planning for next season, and I wonder how many players will still be there, it should not be forgotten that of the two teams we will meet we have lost 0-3 and 0-4 to.

Dorking - In the Past couple of weeks we have played teams who at the time were both 2nd in the league if we had got turned over in both i think it would be fair to say we were let down, but against Horsham we destroyed them. And yesterday we got turned over. Case of Swings and Roundabouts. A Month ago I saw W&H be 2-0 up and go on to lose in a game they should of won, results like yesterday happen and if they didnt football would be boring. I think the term "They wanted it more than us" is wrong and it was a case of "They needed it more than us" yesterday.Yesterday was the poorest perfromance of the season by a mile but if we can say that in April and promotion has been guaranteed things on the whole are ok.

Paul I do not want to be critical of your site because it has always been excellent but I have to say, and I did guess it would happen, that there was pointedly no mention of Jamie Taylor returning to the Meadow. You always make a point of saying when players return and definitely no reference was made this time. Well foruntaly we now have Shane & Leon to partner Richard and Steve Butler brilliantly outplayed Jamie and so you will never have to worry about people mentioning him again but at teh end of teh day he was an ex player who played his heart out for us and deserved a mention.

Edin. Don I am normally in tune with what you say and certainly am when it comes to the extraordinary remarks from Big Al. But I do find it a bit strange that you can say fans have been overly critical when you have been unable to see a game this season. Our team is mainly players from higher leagues, the standard of even supposedly better sides has really been very low this season. I have never know a season where we have coasteed along and not once I have ever felt threated from Met. Pol, WH. Horsham etc. Peoples 'concerns' were that we did not like Naisbitt as captain, the 5-3-2, the fact that our POTY Richard Butler has had very little support up front with him, and the midfield managed 1 goal in 65 appearances. All those have now been addressed and it is no coincidence that we have put two sparkling performances together plus one against teh Palace youth team. There is little point, even if you are top, saying when we can barely manage a pass to a team mate that it is really good and how well we have done. It is noticable that Dave was the first to criticise fans moaning a bit and ever since he has been the biggest critic of the team. The stats. are excellent but far too many games from November to February were a disorganised mess with such totally unispiring football. DA says he has only enjoyed 3 matches this season and no one is having a go at him and saying he is over critical.

Surely, you can see that 'big Al' is just deliberately trying to wind people up. The problem is that he has been successful! I must admit that I wasn't aware of said director's financial problems until it appeared on this site, and as a shareholder was a little perturbed. It may be old news to some, but I don't have time to keep up with all the sites out there, nor the cash to attend some AFCW matches and 400 miles is a bit far to travel for a dons trust meeting! TW, at least we have a voice of reason on here. As for the criticism of manager and players, I hold my hands up and admit that the last AFCW game I actually managed to get the time and money to come to was last season, but top of Ryman 1 looks pretty good from up here! Of course everyone has to have their opinion on team selection etc, but I do feel that some people are 'overly' critical. Anderson has managed at a higher level and knows what it takes to get out of the division. Financially and from a publicity point of view (even something as simple as being included in the classifieds can have a massive impact for a club) AFCW have to get into the RPL. Everything else should be seen as secondary. I don't remember us winning any awards for playing pretty football when 'arry took us up the league all those years ago. Get the promotion, then worry about style.

I can't believe that after the message I posted nobody has either agreed or disagreed with what I had to say.All I've seen is typical blinkered rantings from people just 'having a pop' at each other. This is a democratic country, in spite of any right wingers,(political not football), who think differently. Big Al raised a point early on in respect to a previous posting by an anxious investor. That was then met with a "shock/horror" reaction of how dare any one question the integrity of someone we love. Then Big Al was accused of slagging off and being a cowward. How? But being blunt and candid. And, please, don't give me the nonsense of witholding an e-mail address. Show that and your mail box is full of junk mails for months.Let's have some grown up common sense here and although I have disagreed with Big Al's reasoning,I will defend his right to say it. I tried to answer properly and sensibly, but Paul, close this message board and surely you are cutting your nose off to spite your face? This is a forum for exchanging views and opinions is it not? Big Al; What must always be borne in mind with any business is the profit/loss ratio. If a company is run well and can't survive then one must look at the balance sheet. If it is being run badly and still manages to survive, again the balance sheet must be scanned for any creative accountancy ie: Ebrom et al in the US. With all companies the directors are always responsible but that is not to say that any person having failed before hasn't learnt from their previous mistakes. If any shareholder has doubts then the gross profit and fixed costs(ie: Salaries, Rent and Debt repayments etc)plus inconsistent costs (like utilities etc.)should be looked at for discrepancies. Should the gross profit be falling and the Salaries rising then one has to question why? I can see your concern that football supporters can ignore the business side of the club if things are going well on the pitch. In fact most supporters have no idea of the true commercial side of a football club. As most will call for managers to be sacked without any idea as to the cost of paying up his contract. In an ideal world supporters should wear two hats, one for the playing side of things and one for the finacial side. Unfortunately I do not know many supporters able to do this. Of cours, AFC are different in that it is owned by its supporters ( I assume this is completely correct. If so should the stadium be sold then a pro rata payment would have to be paid to every member. If this is not so then the club is not owned by it's members. They would just be shareholders who would lose any value in their shares should the club fold). I hope that I have understood your concern and this gives you a clearer outline. Although, I would be interested to hear from any other business minded people, who log on to this message page, as to their opinion and observations.

The WISA mafia - Kris(doing it for the love of the club, until he thought he could get 30K to do it), and his cronies. Who else have we got? Rabble rouser Marc Jones and a two bob DJ. As I said earlier - loyalty is not a measure of competance.

Paul - I'm sure bigger companies than AFC Wimbledon have managed to pass themselves off to the City as legit while sweeping things neatly under the carpet. I'm not saying anyone on the board is not completely clean but just that someone raised a fair point and we're back to the old WISA mafia who nobody must say anything against.

Dear SUFC 'boy', one good reason for us turning up will be that SUFC will be able to survive for another season through the additional gate receipts they will undoubtedly bank. If we lose you get to go to a final and more money to help you survive. If we win, you get egg on your face. Fair deal I'd say.

Big Al - My reply was that as we went through a share offer all directors would be checked to make sure they are suitable if the regulatory bodies didnt think a person was suitable to be on the board they wouldn't be. - I am sure you are aware the person you are talking about would be happy to talk to you or anyone else if you really want to discuss this issue, (if it is an issue)

Why is nobody allowed to question the board of the club? I read a post a few lines down, where somebody raised a legitimate concern about a director of the club, and they were shot down with 'If this person is doubting the commitment to club' or words similar. Maybe I'm misinterpreting you Paul, but there was a definite edge to your reply. Wh8ile people freely slag the manager and players (and quite rightly, they've only been on top of the league for most of the season and nearly qualified for the fa cup - what a bunch of losers), nobody is allowed to (not even criticis4e) but question the saints on the board. We all own a share of this club - as I shareholder I'm also slightly concerned about a 2 times bankrupt in such a high position. Fair enough, the board may be "100% Y&B blood" etc, but that's not a measure of competence. Anyone can get into financial trouble once. Twice is either negligence or dishonesty - you choose.

Having been critical recently, feel I must also put the other point of view today. At last we have got back to playing a good passing game without so many long punts 'in hope'. The whole team played together as a team yesterday, and the 'new boys' all fitted in well. Well done Shane too, hard work, a problem for their defence, and more done there today than a similar player in all their short time in that slot. Goals taken well - sorry the penalty couldn't give the first game hat-trick. Well done Dave and the team. Same again next week against tougher opposition?!

Hi Richard B, its probably more to do with the home supporters turnout L'head, Bromley, Horsham & Hastings get on average 180, 223, 250, 288 (03/04 figs without AFCW) and Molesey, Met.Pol. & Cor. Cas. get on average 112, 137, 89 (again 03/04 figs without AFCW), then add the extra local support interest for the games against us say extra 50-150, our average away attendance is 1,454 (inc home supporters), Dorking the only odd turnout they get on average this year 308 (inc AFCW) our game 2,536 but that was on a boxing day.

Has anyone got any ideas on this? I have been a bit surprised how seemingly the nearer we play a team to Kingsmeadow the lower the away support is. The difference between the normal club average and when they play us, i.e. Our support is as follws and seemingly teh further away we play in Surrey & Sussex the bigger it is...Bromley 1702, Leatherhead 1632, Hastings 1541, Horsham 1452 and yet with the 3 clubs on our doorstep is it is Molesey 1335, Met. Pol. 1332 & Cor. Cas. 1202 (midweek game). Is it due to bad public transport or is there some sort of sleeping support in the home counties that don't go to London games?

Good luck for the game against Molesey tomorrow. If any of you are walking to the ground from Hampton Court pop in the bookshop in East Molesey just along from the "New Inn" and say gooday to Pete. He probably has some old programmes etc from days gone by. Well done in the game against Crystal Palace. Last time I saw Wimbledon V Crystal Palace was in 2001 I think, and I think the score was 4-1 to them. Kia Ora from NZ

Paul, I would play him but not build a team round him. I would have him wide and not down a middle. When we play against the better teams, he often goes AWOL and we lose midfield. Even on Saturday, we got over-run in the middle and we have no width. 442!
