UD - Ok but two points first the pitch on Monday was very much unplayable and i think only the fact 2,500 were in the ground was the game played. 2) having seen Met Police last night the front line didnt have a kick allnight. So "struggling" and 9 points clear with 2 games in hand makes nice reading to me.

Paul mate - I know what u r saying and agree the priority is promotion no matter what BUT we will not make many friends on the way and will no doubt lose fans as well. I was embarrassed on Monday by the the lack of quality. Up front we have only 1 decent striker right now (Buts) and unless we get a right hand man for him we could be in for a LONG winter.

Whilst I appeciate winning any game and that the pitch was bad at Dorking ....Please can someone explain how we keep grinding out results when we really are NOT championship quality. The side does NOT look a solid or comfortable unit. Why? Bring back Jamie Taylor and lets get a hard / tall/ ball winner/ play maker in mid field. When will we win a header in midfield?

Rickent - Wasnt laughing at you promise (ok well maybe a little bit :) ) pleased Frankie scored as he is a top guy and I know all the support that the KW have given him. Must say he didnt look too happy when he arrived at the ground thanks to the assistance of a steward!

Boy did Paul R laugh when Frankie scored. There's me screaming 'Oh! No' as the ball flew in the net and HIM pointing at us huddled behind the KW flag reworking our 'after Christmas budgets' in our heads. It could have been a lot worse tho as the Greatest CH in History had another goal disallowed and came pretty close with another header. Bastard!

When we signed GN, the Dagenham supporters were quite clear about their thoughts. Alot of them said that he was very good at shot stopping but poor on crosses/coming out. I think thats been shown to be completely true.

The comments about our 'mute goalkeeper' are way of the mark. I was standing behind his goal and quite clearly heard him call for the ball, as did 'Frankie' and everyone else at the HAE. He just didn't commit himself after the call and then stood there looking for someone to blame. I think that he should relinquish the Captain's armband as I don't feel he can 'encourage' the rest of the team when he's the reason we have conceeded so many easy goals ourselves. At the PSF with Barnet he took some heavy stick from their supporters (whom he knew well) for lapses when he played for them and I thought at the time they were a bit harsh, but I'm beginning to see what they mean now.

AFC Rob with all due respect the reason we actually played well on saturday was that we did NOT lump the ball forward and for once we played along teh ground, hence Randall having one of his better games and Graham having excellent first half and Gell a second. there does seem to be a huge amount of disrespect towards CA from our club as yet again they played better than any other league team this season.

In light of Dave Anderson's programme notes, how do people feel about the interaction between the players and fans, especially the players signed since last May? Do people find them approachable and knowledgeable about the origins and raison d'etre of AFC Wimbledon? I do observe that the players are a tight knit unit and give the impression of team spirit. I think that we played pretty badly on Saturday. It wasn't anyone in particular. It was a bad team performance. What we need to realise is we are not blessed in the height department up front. If we keep aimlessly lumping balls up front we will not keep possession. We have a very good midfield who might as well not be there if we are going to play the ball straight over the top of them.We need to play to our strengths which is neat passing football. Most teams we have played this season have had huge lumbering centre halves who we cannot beat in the air.

Richard have to disagree. Some people dont want to accept some of the players and even if they scored a hat-trick or played brilliantly every week they would still find reason to complain about them.

Yes sorry I am not Richard Butler!! The real test of how 'awful' a team plays is when the fans start having a real go at the players and they did not because there was no one who was playing badly. The odd mistake, epecially from our Mute Goalkeeper but Dave Anderson's report is totally off the mark, most unhelpful and personally I think the pressure is getting to him. That is from someone who stands behind him at every home game....and quite frankly wish he didn't at times!

Surely I am not the only one that actually thought we played very well on saturday? I get the feeling that people see home to the 10th team and so we muct beat them comfortably. Our passing was far better than it has been for much of teh season and thought Sills and Graham in the first half and Gell, Goggin and Gray in teh second were as good as they have been. Presumably Croydon Ath. played well above themselves with some excellent passing, control of the ball and every time we had the ball in midfield they played like men possessed with two players on us in a flash. The only disappointing thing was that towards the end they started the Willdive 2000 lying on the ground with their feet in the air but that probably just highlighted how much work they were putting in. I would definitely say that Croydon Ath. were the best team we played in the league this year and far better than the team lying in second place!

Big John - you know see why I don't go to many games! No, I didn't leave at half time, but don't think I didn't consider it. Maybe the turnaround was due to the fact my goddaughter turned to me 5 minutes before half time and wished us "good luck". She was feeling very smug at the time with Ashford up 1-0. She shortly after declared that Saturday was "the best day of her life", which swiftly turned to despair when we finally started playing like a team at the top of the league should. She had a fabulous time (and was supporting AFC by the end of the game) - that arm twisting I was doing sitting beside her must have helped. Her Dad was very impressed at the friendly atmosphere and I think they'll both be back at Ashford in the future. As for me, I really enjoy supporting my local team but I was wondering what I was going to say on this message board if the first half's performance had continued on to the end.

Kennydon, did you leave at half-time, by any chance? The first half was probably the worst display I have ever seen from an AFC team. The second half was excellent stuff - as good as the first half was bad. There's no mystery to it. We continued the direct approach, but we played the ball on the ground second half. Quick thought for the management: John Fashanu left Wimbledon (and some would say the planet) some years ago. Let's play to our strengths.

Am off to my first game of the season at Ashford now we've lost. Don't get me wrong, but I didn't dare since I'm a bit of a jinx to the team and I would have been heartbroken if they'd lost before getting the record when I'd been in attendance. Hopefully I won't affect them tomorrow and Ashford are a "little" bit below us in the table. I thought it was rather prophetic since the friends I'm taking to the game now live in Ashford, but who used to live off Haydons Road in SW19 - as I still do. We're taking one of my goddaughters (aged 9) to her first football match and I'll try and get her to support the correct team. Even though I suspect I'll be sitting in the Ashford Town end, I'll be supporting AFC all the way. Here's to a good game and me being able to combine football, good friends and the delivery of Christmas presents!

I have to agree with Big John. Without being paranoid the idea that Chester really wanted Woolner but as he would obviously to have his hand held we will send up our most influential player who also just happens to get a game is a bit far fetched. I know we would have ignored it all if the injury had not occurred but it does it mean that any player who goes for a trial will have Rob tagging along as well?

Compensation? The only thing you can really claim for is "Loss of Earnings" I would imagine, So If Rob had been sitting at Home playing PES4 like he usually does and had kicked the screen after he had lost a game and broken his toe in the process would we be able to claim compensation from Sony for the injury :)

Had the (mis)fortune of being at home the other week and saw a Sky Sports News interview with Ian Rush being asked about the current Liverpool squad. This interview was done at a Chester reserve game and the only action shown was Rob Ursell limping to the touchline to receive treatment after he had scored for them. Doubt if many people would have spotted this or even known the player. Bloody great was my first reaction, we send someone to keep Woolly company and he ends up crocked. Shouldn't we be able to get some compensation for this?

Stuart - Yes and No if you call 26th December Boxing Day it's no If the bank Holiday is counted as the 27th Well Yes. Problem this year is that Christmas Day is Saturday and teams no longer play on Christmas Day 26th is therefore Sunday and not many games are taking place that day, the game on 27th is a bank holiday and therefore a 3pm kick off. Some people will say the boxing day bank holiday is 28th. So yes we are losing the traditional Footy Fest at Christmas but New Year is a bit better as we play 1/1/05 and then 03/01/05 should be Bryco Cup 3rd round day.

Not surprised that Roddis has left - I think he jumped before he was pushed - after he was taken off on Saturdays game - followed by the claps of relief from the crowd - he threw the tops on the floor - put your dummy back in Roddis and grow up - you deserved to come off.

Rob
- Monday, November 01, 2004 at 03:12:54 (PST)
Rob - You are quite correct, last season the CCL was at Level 8 in the pyramid. With the introduction of the Conference North and South and new level has been added and the CCL is now Level 9. With our promotion to Ryman One which also moved down a level as a result we are still at Levl 8.

Last season I understood we were at level 8 in the league pyramid in the CCL. However now in the Ryman 1st there are 7 levels above us - so has the re-structuring of the leagues effectively left us at the same level as last year despite promotion?

I have noticed the numbers voting this year have been slightly less despite size of crowds and like you am amazed that people find the need to do this. I was a great fan of Nick on his first couple of games but for 18 people to vote for him on Saturday is embarassing all round. All very odd, surely we have not returned to the away to Reading syndrome?!

I've just read Dave Anderson's post-match comments on the official site and I think it's time to give him some credit. Too many managers, including some of our old ones, would have brushed that performance under the carpet and pretended there was nothing wrong. I'm not a big fan of Dave's tactics - three central defenders still looks uncomfortable and we send the ball long too often - but the guy deserves credit for owning up to Saturday's performance. With that sort of honest approach, I think we'll get through this little patch OK and go on to win the league.

Too small!! Was Kevin Keegan too small? is Reyes too small? is Craig Bellamy too small? He was only too small because the team played balls in that air that fashanu would have struggled to get and never, on the few occasions he has been allowed to play this season, recieved along the ground to stretch the defences.

I have to say a week on that I have found no fan who has put up a decent argument as to why Jamie was not given more first team football. I was also under some miapprehension that there was someone to replace him. I do stress that without Butler and Ursell there is no department where the goals are going to come from, so a good decision is required fairly quickly here.

I have a theory and I seriously hope that I am wrong. In the light of Dave Anderson releasing Jamie Taylor I think we are going to have trouble luring high level strikers to our club.Although playing for the Dons would probably be a great prospect for any non-league player.I cant see too many players risking leaving a higher level to be put on the bench.Jamie Taylor is a great player and I think we will regret letting him go next time we play Horsham

Paul. No I would not have guaranteed Jamie a start everytime, but a lot more than he had, a fast and quick player who could think ahead, more than randal can, maybe he was a hendon player who dave still likes for some reason. agreed dave has done a good job so far, but to what expence to us. remember its afc wimbledon not afc hendon
andy neale
- Monday, October 25, 2004 at 05:55:24 (PDT)
The time when players start to 'demand first team football' is usually when they suspect they are being marginalised. Jamie Taylor is good enough to deserve more games than he has had for us this season, he is demonstrably better than Randall and he has scored some good goals, especially the one at Croydon Athletic. Unfortunately, the inflexibility of our system, which seems to rely on sending the ball long for the ever-willing Richard Butler to chase, has done Jamie no favours at all. Frankly, if Butler picks up a serious injury, I'm not sure where our goals will come from, other than Ursell. This is not a criticism of Dave, whose record this season speaks for itself, but a warning sparked by the unnecessary loss of a quality striker.
Big John (UK)
- Monday, October 25, 2004 at 03:49:58 (PDT)
Please to goodness this mystery forward we are interested in is not Rob Haworth the most ineffectual striker we have played against since the club was formed. No control, no pace, no positional sense...anyway do not want to jump the gun maybe it is Kevin Cooper or that regular scorer for Horsham jamie whatishisname.
Richard B another Wiltshire Don
- Monday, October 25, 2004 at 01:09:54 (PDT)
Paul - No, dont guarantee anyone a place. However, he should have started more which would have seen him want to stay as he would have felt part of the first team rather than a squad player. He was better than Randall IMO
Dave Hill
- Sunday, October 24, 2004 at 12:44:23 (PDT)
Have to agree that seeing Taylor go was really sadin that Dave said he did not think he was good enough. Well he is more effective than Randall and the service to him when he has played ahs been dreadful with the ball flying five feet over his head every time. With Joe so regularly injured we only need Richard injured and we have problems. I do not want to criticise Dave as it has been a tremendous start but feel that there is a little bit too much favoritism towards the players he brought in. Taylor ahead of Randall and it took forever for Gibson to replace Woolner and look how ell he has played since. Hust feel that had Jamie played from the start against Thurrock and the ball constantly fed through to him the size of the defence would scarcely have mattered.
Richard B another Wiltshire Don
- Sunday, October 24, 2004 at 09:55:38 (PDT)
Andy - So you would guarantee Jamie Taylor a starting place each week? Also once again people seem to forget that so far players who have left have done so by there own choice.

Allthough dissapointed to see Jamie go as I think he is a very good player it appears as the only way we could of kept him was to guarantee him first team football, so the question to be asked is should any player be guaranteed first team football or should players be in th team on merit?
