Fantastic start to the season. Let's just hope we don't become too complacent. We seem to leak a few goals whenever we relax a little. Slightly reminiscent of Kevin Keegan's Newcastle a few years ago! Saw Ben Canham today BTW and he seems very positive about the Under 14s - good to see we're thinking about the future.

Hi Paul, just wanted to post on your site as I haven't done for ages. After you'd left us today we stayed in Worthing for something to eat, then got the train home. There was suddenly a load of loud singing which I thought was a huge crowd of our fans, getting closer to Worthing station. They then emerged - all three of them! Great result again today - let's hope the boys can keep up the good work.

Richard - It's hard to say a lot of people are away on hols at the moment before the schools return. Season Ticket Sales were up on last season. And Erik's projections were based on a 10% drop in the crowds. We once again took 1,000 away today so all things are not doom and gloom. Regarding posts on the guestbook not as many as I would like but lets hope that it picks up because I think we have some good discussions on here at times.

I hope I am very wrong on this but there is not an air of complacentcy about the club is there? The crowds are all less than hoped, very few messages on the board. Maybe it is the weather and people are not into the season yet. Thankfully except for a few moments of madness the team are certainly up for it. I just feel that having raised nearly £1.2m we all feel that it has all been done. Or is it just because this time last season people could not get enough of the Club. The non existent press coverage does not encourage people to take an interest. Any thoughts?

Excellent! I've just come back from a couple of weeks holiday and it looks like a proper football club message board again - arguing about the players' merits, arguing about the size of the crowds etc. More, more! I agree with the comments about the need for a keeper, but maybe we need to remember Leeds and Sprake, Liverpool and Grobelaar, Holland and Jongbloed, Poland and Tomaszewski...I could go on. Point is, every great team has an Achilles heel a it's often the keeper.

Brighton - Delighted to be proved wrong and hope it continues for the whole season! In the same way I am amazed still at the number of people who feel Kevin Cooper does not create chances for other players or does not play for the team. the second half alone shows what rubbish this is and how important...and how clearly he should have won the player of the year award right across the board.

MFF/Richard - have to say that there were at least 1600 at Feltham on Saturday - certainly 300 more than last year when there were many gaps in the stand. This year it was actually quite difficult to sit there! Think your right to keep flagging this Richard since if we don't, many will see this as erosion in our support.

I know I always go on about attendances but how can this one be 1,184 when they said last season was 1320. There were clearly more people this time in all parts of the ground and though not near my guess of 2,000 before the game there were always going to be more Dons fans on a sunny first saturday than a wet, miserable day when we knew we were not going to win the League any more. More creative accounting!!

Wade Felana in the first Half was excellent, rather lost his way in the second. Joe played well but he is not a goalscorer and needs to play in the Denis Bergkamp role behind the front two. Was sitting next to someone is still reckoned that Cooper did not do enough for the team. I would have thought 40 goals was enough for the team and hope that he is back soon, otherwise Matt Everard will be our top scorer!

Excellent set of updates Paul - I think this must be the record for the largest number in a single game. Reading through them it seemed to be pretty much one-way traffic but a bit worrying that only two of the chances were converted. I was a bit suprised that Coops was left on the bench. Were there still worries about his hamstring and playing on a plastic pitch or was Terry dropping a reminder that no-one could afford take their place for granted? I haven't seen Wade Falana play yet (been on holiday for a few weeks)but he doesn't yet seem to be setting the message boards alight........of course I fully expect (or hope) to have to eat my words by Christms!

Do you know what is happening next season in relation to transfer tickets to the main stand ? Cos I bring with me an old chap who can't stand up the whole time so he buys a transfer ticket to the main stand each time. He is reliant on me getting him there and can't make it on his own so doesn't want to risk spending money on a season ticket when may not always be able to come along. So will transfer tickets still be sold on home match days ?
Thanks

I have spoken to Feltham’s Club Chairman and he has told me that they should be charging £5.00 for the match again this year& £3.00 for OAPs. All this £7.00 stuff is just a rumour being put about to wind people up. Feltham FC is not interested in ripping people off and would wish as many people to come along to the match as possible. He hopes this clears up any concerns that Dons supporters have.

Richard B-£7 to see your football team is fantastic value. the problem is that feltham charge £3 to see any usual game at that hell hole, but all of a sudden they are not happy to charge that. we were charged £5 last year, but again its gone up which tbh is not acceptable. won't boycott though, but if i hear through the grape vine that there is a whole in a fence they can kiss goodbye to my £7

I agree with Richard on this one. £7 is a fraction of what we have paid in the past.

It does not say much for the loyalty of our fans if the price of a pint increase is all it takes 1,000 fans to decide not to go to a game. This is hardly going to be a popular comment but I get as much pleasure from watching the team as I did in the Premier League away where we paid £24 at Watford and more at Tottenham to get perferated eardrums from the PA. £7 does sound a bit like whingeing really...now wait for the abuse.

MFF - what's going on mate? £7 is a bit steep; can u put any pressure on the officials at FFC to revert back to the £5 charge. I'm sure you will get a 2000 crowd if you do that (plus beer/prog revenue). Alt, if you retain £7, your crowd will be down to about 1000, I fear.

Ian Concannon has played for Didcot Town in the Hellenic Premier for past 2 seasons. He's scored 115 in 100 matches for us, including the winner against Wallingford in the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy Quater Final last February.
Outstanding record - He has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. Don't expect him to win too many headers outside the box though.

Dorking Don, - Sunday, July 27, 2003 at 06:58:53 (PDT)
Richard - fair call on what you say but during the season the o/s usually has the result and line up's on there by Sunday. Marc wwho runs the site has said that most people visit the site during the week so as long as it is up by Monday most people will see it. The match reports are produced by supporters so Marc is relying on people e-mailing it to him he then has to check it and maybe even clear it with the club before he puts it into the format needed. So if people dont write reports nothing can go up. Marc also has his own business to run so o/s updates to a degree take second place BUT whenever a major story takes place you will usually find that it has been put up straight away. The important thing to remember is that I and other "unofficial" websites can write what we want the "official site" has to make sure that it is true and not going to result in any sort of legal action. Marc can only put up what is supplied by the club and at the moment the getting ready of the stadium and share issue has taken precident. I am sure once the season starts updates will be more regular.
Paul Raymond (webmaster@itmustbedons.com)
Tooting, London England - Sunday, July 27, 2003 at 05:25:09 (PDT)
Paul - I feel that your site is always the most up to date and any relevant news are always here first. We should be able to say this with the Official site and yet always get the feeling that it is only updated when there are a few things to mention which are often out of date by then.Clearly supporters want to know how many season tickets have gone, prompt reports and stats from games and it is always you that seemingly has to supply these. I am very aware that many fans from other teams look on the Official site for up to date info. and the latest piece can be a week and more old which never seems a great advert for the Club. As a Trust/season ticket holder/shareholder, like many others, but 100 miles away,it would be great to have our premium site absolutely up to pace, especially during the season itself. I am not just having a winge but feel the club info. depends on too many private sites, yours, AFC Wombles etc. rathet than the OS.

Richard B - There was a link to the fixtures on the front page of the o/s. And why do you say the o/s is "ever disappointing" it's the close season at the moment so not a lot to report really and also the club have been a bit busy recently in terms of share issue and stadium to be able to put stories out on the o/s just for the sake of it. Out of interest what do you think should of been on there recently?

WW - I wouldn't say i'm a person of wise words and wisdom :) Regarding season tickets 3 things to consider 1) a number of people have said they wont be getting season tickets as they will be getting shares with the money and then paying on the day. 2) People that want terrace tickets may not have applied yet as they are guaranteed a spot (unlike seats) and there was no early discount so we could well pass that figure. 3) Erik when doing one of his presentations said they expect attendances to be 90% of last year so that could be the same for season tickets so dont be suprised if they are down a bit.

Richard B. - simple really. The attendance at games includes all ST holders - whether they turn up or not. So, on the day, it was obvious there was room for more, and on police advice, afc were instructed to allow more people into the ground to avoid disappointed customers outside the ground. So, although the capacity wasn't exceeded in actual people, the official count did. Kind of like franchise, but in reverse, coz the rule about including all STs actually works against us.
