As someone who did not go to the Away to Willdive 2000 game can someone who did tell me what the breakdown of the 2044 crowd was? Surely not all Dons, but some Brighton? Willdive don't have any fans so it can't be down to them.

Grant you only want the Dr Martins route coz most of the grounds are near you. There would be so much more travelling and increased cost the Dr Martins is just not realistic. Also we could well end up in the West Division.
Paul Raymond (webmaster@itmustbedons.com)
Tooting, London England - Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 02:33:19 (PDT)
Why don't we try to go down the Dr Martins route to get higher, the grounds are better, players better Fisher Athletic are in it and they are from London.

Understand about the loss of revenue although I like the idea of keeping momentum - it would send out a good signal. I remember an Aldershot supporter talking about how initially things went well but they lost impetus. I think AFC are stronger in terms of support than Aldershot but we dont want that scenario to happen to us.

Mark, On the debit side we would be in the same position in the pyramid and, as I said before, we would need to finish 1 or 2 to get to Ryman1, and Ryman2 has only 16 teams which means a loss of 8 home games and loads of money. The only credit is that the grounds will be better in terms of being able to accommodate us and the pitches would be tad better to?

- Wednesday, April 09, 2003 at 13:08:44 (PDT)
if we end up in 3rd place in the ccl we should not even think about aplying to get in the Rymans div 1.This would be taking the piss out of both leagues and against everything that the club was set up for.We should get up on our own merit, not jump over others .Already some Dons fans are disrespectful towards other teams fans .Its important we do things in the correct way and not be seen to jump the que.

One does not want to be over confident but the only reason we were not accepted into the Ryman League last year was because they thought the club would last 10 minutes. This has been proved to be totally wrong and I have not given up hope that a special arrangement on this occasion will be made.
Richard B another Wiltshire Don
- Wednesday, April 09, 2003 at 08:46:10 (PDT)
Mark, we would have gone to Ryman 2 and would be roughly in the same position as now - eg needing to finish in first two to get into Ryman1
Komarca Don
- Tuesday, April 08, 2003 at 22:52:53 (PDT)
Although what is strange with the whole set up, is that we nearly went straight into the Rymans last year anyway! Now we have established and proved ourselves to some extent, surely our chances should have improved. Personally I think we should keep momentum which is vital. Worth applying whatever!

Paul- its just things people have said on w&ww. People post things such as we are too big for the ccl, clubs cant afford to match our needs due to our big support and so we will be invited up if we finish 3rd. I don't believe it personally but its what I have read.

Rumour, rumour, gossip...etc.
Just got an email from Nick Robinson, secretary of the Isthmian League. I asked him for a definitive answer on the 'can we go up in third?' and he said definitely no, only the top 2 teams are eligible for promotion. Our best bet has to be to hope Wallingford slip up. COME ON YOU WOMBLES!!!!

Hash - Dont know who told you that (about 3rd) as apprantley the CCL constitution says that only top 2 will be put forward to the Ryman AGM. So it would mean resigning from the CCL and if we didn't get elected to the Rymans (there may not be any spaces) we would be without a league.

The Watford 'club' testimonial sounds like a good idea. Very much in keeping with AFC's drive for funds. The current AFC squad vs. Dons old boys or a mix of old and new. It would certainly be two fingers to Charlie Koppout

Regarding fund raising. I was listening to Luther Blissett on the radio this evening. He is organising a testimonial. Not for a player but for Watford (in order to buy back the freehold of Vic Rd). It got me thinking that AFC should do a similar thing. There are a number of players who have already publically spoken for us - Euell, Ardley, Gayle, Sanchez, Perry, etc. Could be a money earner for the stadium fund. He also said that its not just a game but a whole day event. With stallls, bouncy castles, etc.

Sadlt, I think Withdoom will be the main benefactors of the Wallies drop in form. Even if we win our last 7 fixtures & finish on 111pts, we will basically need Wallies to drop 8pts from here, since they have a GD of +91 (AFC Dons have +55), that's 3 defeats or 2 defeats & 2 draws from their last 8 fixtures. Looking at their remaining games, the more challenging are W2k (a), Chess & H (a) G&G (h), Feltham (a), Ash (h).

Interesting article in my local paper about the recent Sandhurst v Southall game which was abandoned after 79mins. Apparantely, the ref called a halt to proceedings after the barracking became too much (Southall were down to 10 men and were 1-0 down with a 2nd sending-off pending). The Sandhurst manager has called for Southall to be kicked out of the CCL and claimed they had a poor reputation in their 3 seasons in the league. He went on "we've played them six times in three seasons now and only once have they finished with 11 men. They shouldn't be allowed to play at this level, they're so unprofessional, you don't need that sort of aggravation".

Ok Time to reply - One important thing to remember a web site only works if people look at it and with the number of people that come to the site it makes it a lot easier to keep updated. I know some of the site has been negleted (fixture list for one) but it has always been a pleassure to provide the site for everyone. :)

Without being too predictable I have to totally agree with Big John, that Paul has done a hell of a job, is the main line of communication and has a lot to do with the ball continuing to roll. Presumably if the there become too many fixtures the Cheating Bar Stewards of Withdean could play 2-3 games on the same evening as they seem to be able to call on anyone in Southern England to play for them. I hope AFCW are keeping an eye on any illegible players that may accidently play for them. Would be such a shame if they were deducted 10-15 points because of it!

Paul, I think now is probably as good a time as any for me to thank you for all your excellent work on this website. It's the one I always go to first and (especially as I am a Dons fan who lives an hour and a half's drive away) it has been invaluable. This may have been a fans' revolution, but without the internet and the hard work of people like you, it could never have become the success story it currently is. Thankyou. While I am congratulating people, I posted a message on this site last September when results weren't going too well and some people were getting a bit wobbly about Terry and the team. I predicted we would get a top four finish (no problem now) and that the game against Wallingford on 29th March would be the decisive match of the season. I just never guessed that it would not be either of the AFCWs that benefited, but the bloody Withdean School of Diving!

It was transfer deadline today so no one will be joining us before the end of the season. No idea about Mr Clarke I imagine he will get some sort of offer from a pro club. Shane Small King could depend on if Mr Eames thinks he can be of benefit to the club.

My mate who's a peterborough regular says he'll be 36 in July and hasn't been offered anything new yet, despite being, as he claims, their most consistent player and current leading goalscorer. Even at 36, 37, 38 he might not be as quick but he could become a lower league superstar.

I've got to say that I think the goalie situation needs looking into for next year. Merry did not exactly look confident and the first free kick showed a lack of positioning.

Is it me or does Shane Small-King look identical to Andy Clarke after a few pies. Quality player though. Can't believe I said '..he won't do that again' after his first free kick effort. Not that it matters though because the wally got stuffed. Speaking of Andy Clarke, his contract with Peterborough is up soon, his twilight years couldn't be spent anywhere better than Kingsmeadow, of which, now we own it, can't we rename it? Man U have their 'Theatre of Dreams' so why can't we have our 'Meadow of Kings'. Bit insensitive to Kingstonian but hey-ho.

Regarding the attendance discussion the reason I think you will find that it was lower than everone thought was due to the fact that their were a higher number of season ticket holders in attendance. All football clubs count season ticket holders if they are there on not and some weeks several hundread ticket holders dont turn up Saturday being nice and a big game it looks like most people turned up and therefore more people in the ground but not additional if you see what I mean.

Signed from Reading Town this season. Has played in the Ryman Premier for Harrow and Wokingham. Very skillful and strong on the ball, has an ability to beat and go past players and has a dangerous shot.

Komarca Don, do you think we could demolish the Grolsch stand and then build a 1,500 seater stand there for £1m? I think it would be more like double or triple that. As far as I know, the improvements would be to increase the capacity/safety certificate to 6,000 (a Conference and League requirement, and a capacity the ground was supposedly designed for FWIW) from the existing 4,262 by creating a separate entrance/exit for away fans into the park and by covering the Athletics end (the girders are already in place to do this) I gather from Kingston Council that the planning permission necessary to do this is already in place, however it will run out in 2004 or 5, can't remember which.

If the 2700 Wisa members donate £10 each per week and invest it in a giant lottery syndicate that increases the chances of winning from 14,000,000/1 to 518/1. That's for the jackpot, not to mention other substantial sums. Over a few years, odds like that aren't bad. 5 numbers plus the bonus ball alone can raise up to £300,000, enough to pay Coops' wages as we charges up the leagues.
COME ON YOU WOMBLES!!!

SW19, - Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at 03:25:49 (PST)
Couple of answers on the finance questions 1) Football trust apprantley doesn't give money for buying grounds only improving and also depending on the level you play at depends on the amount you get So we would get less than say a Conference or 3rd division side. 2) Extensive financial ideas will be released for example raising money via the city. Most banks wont lend money to football clubs so it's not just a case of walking into Barclays/HSBC and saying I need £3 million.
