Football Trust for £1m grounf improvements?
Komarca Don
- Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at 23:16:54 (PST)
To raise money....take a good home attendance of, say, 3000 and every one has to raise £1000 by December. Loans, mortgage increase, tap into savings....er, sponsored walks...etc. Bobs yer uncle, 3 million knicker. In effect, 3000 happy owners of AFC Wimbledon. The land is unlikely to decrease in value and with the odd dividend thrown in as Dons increase capacity, revenue, the odd cup run occur, it's a very sound investment..........well, we can all dream but I'm sure this is the sort of route we must look at. TBWA could cough up some. Sam Hammam owes us big time but I fear getting him to open his wallet could be nigh on impossible.
Any other ideas?
Also......when will Withdean stop blimmin' winning?

I think its great news but how can we get £3m by December? I did not realise we had to pay it so quickly. Can we get a loan - like a mortgage!

John, thks ... the £2.5m looks a bargain vs the cost of re-acquiring Plough Ln (£14m), but I guess it depends on what sort of planning permission will be fortcoming. On the subject of the £1m improvements, I hope that refers to the (a) demolition of the existing Grolsh stand, and (b) its replacement with either a seated stand with at least 1500 cap or a standing with proper (steeped) terracing. On the subject of Kholsa, he must have got a good deal in the summer if he purchased KFC for £445k plus debts. Why didn't Noadsie come in then if he wanted the land. He's not quite Van Hoogstraten, but he's never slow to see a good deal.

Komarca Don: there was much discussion about this fact at the meeting, but given that Khosla has stated that he will sell to us there is the distinct possibility that when our 'exclusivity Deal' expires he will be selling to another party. God Help Us, not Ron Noades

Couldn't make it last nite as I now live 60 miles from Wim. Did anyone discuss teh Kholsa article in The TImes (on WISA web-site) that suggests he bought KFC for £455k? This suggests he's making a huge profit of over £2m in six-months. Maybe I'm not comparing like with like and it's likely he had to pay off KFC debts as well, but I'm concerned he might be taking advantage of us here.

yes i agree buying kingsmeadow would b a brilliant option because, for 1 we will have our own ground and our own income, and also if we were to move to tooting we have to pay 300k and get nothing 4 our money because we will not own anything and also sharing with k's for a longer period would not b so good because we will still have some inscurity about further seasons to come.

Let's do it. Buy Kingsmeadow. Short to medium term it has to be the right thing to do. The Merton issue, unfortunately, again, will have to be re appraised, again, at a later date, perhaps when we've consolidated and moved onward and upward. Funding 3-4 million will be er,...interesting but let's take the risk.
COME ON YOU DONS!!!!

just a quick note of persuassion to make sure the dons trust does the sensible thing tonight and provides the club with what it needs most at this time, momentum. if AFCW is to survive and prosper it needs to maintain momentum. the best way to do this is prvoide excitment for the fans so they dont disapear. having our own groung will be the first step to maintain this excitment. the prospect of our own ground will surely keep many fans on board who may well have vanished. having our own ground also allows us to build for the future. without our own ground we will never be able to take advantage of our fan base. too much of our revenue is lost in rent to the k's, while not recieving revenue from the bar is surely a huge blow. if we had our own ground we could put more revenue into the playing side of things. we could then improve the infrastucture, increase the contracted players and attract better players through higher wages. this would greatly improve our chances of reaching at least the conference. therefore momentum will be maitained and instead of crowds dropping they would continously rise. finally the view that we shouldnt buy the ground cause it is not in MErton is im afraid a bit idealistic. when you consider the size of merton and the cost that would be involved in buying and building a ground, it is clear that the chance of getting a ground in MErton is unrealistic. if we buy kingsmeadow we will own our own ground by the end of the year, at a reasonable price. Kingston is only 10 minutes drive from Merton and is on the same train line as Wimbledon. lets take what we can for the development of the club.

While I would never go so far as to condone Sadam, it should be remembered that he spent some of his formative years living in a small Ba'aathist community in Raynes Park. He did of course follow the dons avidly during his time here. However it all turned sour and he decided to test his prototype WMD's on his former loves in SW19.
To be continued....

Children are banned and there will be a motion proposing that "AFC Wimbledon will buy Kingsmeadow with the condition that all children are banned from the ground as well as all those pathetic dons fans with pretensions to a hard hooligan image now we are the biggest club in our little world" A liitle longwinded I admit and perhaps a little harsh on the wannabe hard men, but there you go.

I think Hartson is and always was, a quality player. His goalscoring rate never faltered, even if his attitude clearly did. In the First he looked like he was wondering what on earth he had done to his career. By all accounts though he was drinking a little too heavily while with us and clearly got overweight. 7 million might have been mad- but for a club that could have realisticaly afforded it it would not have been bad business.

Sorry about the update Paul, i was bored last night and trawling other footie sites. I'll leave it for the professional in future ;) As for Hartson, can't stand the bloke. Getting sent off in a crucial relegation game wasn't the way to please the people who paid his wages. I was, however, pleased with his performance against Rangers last Sunday!

Richard B, I couldn't agree more. £7.5 million 'ish' of lard and a very poor return. Perhaps Hartsons 'moment' would be a better description. As for the kissing of the badge, I must have been swept up in the emotion of the occasion to have remembered it so fondly.
Now, how are we going to knobble Withdean?
johnny proud
SW19, - Friday, March 21, 2003 at 07:11:44 (PST)
Without making the Hartson discussion a major issue I am not sure that 8 goals in 20 League & Cup games in our relegation season was that excellent a record. As for the passion of kissing the badge, the only ones that do this phoney ritual are the ones that tend to leave a few weeks later. In terms of his loyalty he seemed pretty keen to joins Spurs and the only reason he did not was because he was an injury risk and they did not want him. He did not exactly take long to decide on the always tempting move to Coventry. Anyway there are plenty of other players one can dislike more. He just does not deserve much more of a mention in Dons history except that he cost far too much money, which only helped Hammam's pretension that we were a wealthy club and some one should be thrilled to buy it from him.

Hartson had his moments. For a skilfull pub footballer he wasn't that bad and he did equalise in the dying minutes against Villa when we thought we were going to stay in the premiership. Even did all the kissing of the club badge and dying for the cause bit er,...which was great, until Southampton, who owed us a favour or two screwed it all up.

At a business meeting last night in Crawley I was chatting to lady, we got talking and it turned out that her boyfriend/partner was X Franchise FC full back. He has now left and gone to Luton. I asked what the players thought of the situation there. She said that most of them were un-happy, didn't want to move to MK, didn't like the management but could say/do much about it as they were under contract. I will be emailing her to invite the him down to one of our games (don't wanner put his name up here) as he would like to see how we the fans are getting on.

Debs - As you say I would imagine that it would need to go to a vote of the Dons Trust and that this is perhaps at the initial stage of things i.e. something along the lines of "If our members agree we will buy the ground" it's looks like someone at K's has heard a rumour and asked the Khosla's about it and they havent denied it and therefore people have said it's happening. My opinion I dont mind where we play it will be nice to have a base and be able to benefit from the facilities to strengthen the club. This is another reason why people need to attend the SGM next Monday just because the T&M proposal is a non starter (we still have to vote on it) doesn't mean that issues wont be discussed even if they cant be voted on.

Okay, it's not quite Merton but as close as and would be an inspired move. You've got to feel for the K's fans but they could have no better landlord than AFC who are likely to understand more than most what they're going through. We won't put houses on Kingsmeadow and send them up the M1.

We have been informed that Mr Khosla will make a statement during the week regarding the on-going administration period and yesterday's rumours regarding AFC Wimbledon and the ownership of Kingsmeadow.

Hi AFC Wombles
I am sure you are now aware that we at Westfield have decided to play our match against you on 12th April at Woking FC's Kingfield Road ground so we can accommodate you properly.
This is just a note to tell you that you are all welcome to come to the Westfield Club House before and after the match as it will will be open for drinks/food from 11:00am and then again from 5:00pm onwards. Free parking is available behind the Westfield F.C. ground at the back of the Leisure Centre. To find Westfield FC you continue past Woking F.C.'s ground on the right and Woking Leisure Centre on the left. After about 100yds, turn left into Elm Bridge Lane and then immediately left again and the ground is on the left with the free parking area is straight in front.
Look forward to seeing you on the 12 and hopefully we will put up a better show than at your place. We have won our last 5 on the bounce so you never know.

Regarding the Withdean and Eastbourne tie up isint it the same as us and Netherne? Some players are registered with two clubs and anyway at this level registration is so quick and easy you can be registered with a new club in a short period of time, also believed to be why suspensions are for a number of days rather than games to stop players switching to complete there suspensions.

Why do we keep getting to 5 goals then stop, try to control the game, and let the opposition get back in.
I agree that we need stability in defence, and Matt has shown good work, i can only assume that there was a slight injury fear. He has shown himself to be a true star in our colours since his arrival

- Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 06:27:32 (PST)
We played some of the best football of the season last night and two of Cooper's goals were outstanding, but Terry still has to get to grips with the defending. All of the Ash goals were avoidable and I think it is unlikely that Keith Ward, in particular, will have ordered a copy of the match video for his collection. If the substitution of Matt Everard was tactical it was a mistake, because we looked shambolic at the back, afterwards. Terry needs to give the back four, based around Everard, the opportunity to bed down and learn to work as a unit. Quality defending week in week out is all that stands between us and sustained success. Did anyone else stand near the Ash fan in the Grolsch stand , who never shut up all second half and does he not qualify as 'nutter of the season'?
Big John
UK - Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 04:51:41 (PST)
Alan, Both were ridiculously low.....As for Ash the best attacking performance of the season so far but why? Oh Why? do the defence still insist on creating all the oppositions goals. For 90% of the game they do well and then someone produces an absolute rickett.
