How quick off the mark are you Paul? I've just got home from the game and you've got a match report already on the site. I can't argue with it, either - rubbish pitch and opponents who increasingly lost what little self control they started with (as the Chalfont fan next to me in the first half warned me they would). And the referee was, of course, a complete PRAT! Still, we did OK, we creted all the best openings and it's games like this that usually end in stupid little defeats.

Well done AFC Dons, so far this season, looks like the early form teams are AFC Wallingford, I seem to remember we beat them last season ;-) , and Ash. Suprise team is your 'next door' Raynes Park Vale. Good luck against Southall.

Hi Paul - thanks for the info. Yes a well needed win. West Ham away and Soton home next so must get some more points before difficult games at Liverpool and Ncastle. our site is www.wba.co.uk. the record for posts is over 3000 in a day and i think Man City hold it. Wea re on about 900 and the 24 hours is up at about 6pm and the wolves are still ahead of us.

danny robberts should be encouraged to get forward more, overlap with Sullivan, and get in crosses. He started to do this in the second half to some effect. Keith Ward was not on form yesterday and despite scoring a wonder goal Sim Johnston was not at his best, defensively, particularly in the second half. Not sure those substitutions helped. But a good win although the score should have been more like 6 0r even 7 - to us. I really thought we were going to keep a clean sheet too. Damn those substitutions.

Michael, I'm not involved in the AFC O/S and aware that they play at worthing but apprantley Withdean 2000 can play a number of games at withdean each season and the rumour was that ours would be switched. dont know if venue has been confirmed as of yet.

Paul. Are you aware that Withdean play in Worthing not Preston Park, Brighton? The address on AFC site for the club is incorrect as are the directions. They should be - c/o Worthing FC Woodside Road, Worthing 01903 239575 Follow the A24 to the town. At end of Broadwater Road, having gone over railway bridge, take the 1st right into Teville Road at the roundabout. Turn right into South Farm Road, then 2nd left into Pavilion Road. Woodside Road is the 1st turning on the right, and the ground is on the left hand side

I would have to agree with you on our number 5 and number 7, the language on the pitch isn't one your likely to find at a catholics convention, but it is part and parcel of the game, from Sunday level all the way up to the premiership, I don't condone it, but it is part and parcel, as for the celebration, hardly the same as all the outfield players sitting on the floor and doing oops upside your head, I was more embarrased for the players, than the fans. What I was more concerned about from your original message, was the spitting issue, should be automatically red carded and given a healthy ban, can you give us an example and the player it was?

I am a season ticket holder of the MetroStars here in the USA and at our tailgates before the match and after there is quite a lot of talk about AFC Wimbledon. I am quite surprised at how in tune people are with what is going on. Several of us are still waiting on the official website accepting credit cards so that we can buy the AFCW kits and donate money to the club. Regarding MK, in the US a few years back an American football team called the Cleveland Browns were moved to Baltimore. The fans and politicians in Cleveland strongly protested the move and the NFL decided that the team in Baltimore had to change its name and colors, while Cleveland would keep their honors, colors and name if they were to ever get a team in the future. Eventually in 1999 Cleveland got an expansion team and they are called the Cleveland Browns and they have the same colors and claim all their old honors and records. Perhaps The FA could try to negotiate something like that with the MK Dons.

Ash fan, grateful that you have replied and all I can say is that I must have been at a different end of the pitch to you. As for the old Wimbledon you will be surprised to hear that on this I agree with you and in fact on the second signing of Mr. Jones he had already punched an Ipswich player in the face within 20 minutes!! I wrote to Sam hamman asking why we wanted him back and he rang me at work and told me for over an hour how wonderful a player he was that Robbie Earle thought his return was the best thing that ever happened to him etc.So I was never a fan of his or any of the strong arm tactics that used to go on and make us a hated team for a few seasons. It is probably more to do with the fact that you and Wallingford are so clearly the best 2 teams in the Division I expected some fast flowing attractive football. I was amazed to see from the word go the number 5 swearing at anything that moved, players, fans officials, as was No. 7 until his arm lock on Danny Roberts in the last five minutes. God knows what your number 2 was on in the first half. His role seemed to be just abusing the linesman and this why he got stick from the crowd. The No. 11 strutting and puffing his cheeks out after the third goal made Andreas Moller's effort in 1996 look very appealling. No I thought we would lose 5-1 to a side who should be in a higher division and all we got was snarling, swearing and misplaced aggression aimed at everybody and seemingly your own team. The No. 7 summed up the whole performance in that he was very skilful, and excellent engine and yet seemingly could not just concentrate on playing.

Sorry to keep going on about Richard B's comments, but they've irritated me, the way you went on about Ash, it would appear that you only supported AFC Wimbledon and not the old Wimbledon, who correct me if I'm wrong, where not one of the most angelic sides in English football, or did there reputation preceed them and they where in fact a 'lovely bunch of blokes', especially that nice Vincent Jones. A case of pots and kettles.

I'm afraid to say our penalty from where I was standing, looked like a stonewaller, the guy who got sent off us struck it, hit your full back on the arm and according to the laws of the game, however harsh they maybe, the player had to go. It certainly worked out better for us, as if the ball goes in, he stays on the pitch and it's 11 v 11, but as it was we upped the tempo and got the win. The one thing you did do, when you went 2-0 up, instead of playing the same, you then tried to defend the lead and played on the edge of your box, this made it easier for us to pin you back in the 1st place. As for the refereeing, we've had him a few times and he's generally one of the better ones, as is going to be the case with most Ref's in your games, I think they'll think the spot light is on them and want to be the centre of attention, as proved yesterday.

I have to agree with Paul because I don't think your pen was one either. As for our pen, I didn't see it because this big fat bloke stood up infront of me and blocked my view. As for the ref being one of the better ones, if he is then I think we might have a problem for the rest of the season with crap refs at all the matches.

In reply to Richard B's comments, I think he must have been watching a different game to what I was, or maybe he just had some Blue tinted glasses on. The blatant penalty was so blatant, that everyone thought he had blown up for a goal kick, your forward booted the ball off the pitch, it hit the hoardings, our keeper then caught him and he gave a penalty, exactly the same thing happened at the other end and we got nothing, although we got a Pen in the end which did change the outcome of the match. As for the spitting, intimidation and looking for a ruck, I saw none of that, what I saw was an evenly contested game, played in a firm manner, but with an over exuberant ref, who thought everyone had come to watch him, rather than the football, which I'm afraid to say, your going to find more and more in this league, as he is one of the better ones. On to the footballing aspects, I was quite surprised at your side, as after struggling to beat Cove on Saturday, I thought you might be weaker than on show yesterday, however, you looked pretty solid at the back, until the sending off, lively up front and workman like in the middle, the only critiscm I have, is that you played like the old Wimbledon, completely bypassing the midfield and punting up to the big boy up front and playing off him, not a lot of creativity.

- Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 03:58:45 (PDT)
The game seemed to swing when Ash got their first goal - a penalty - which originated through some bad defending on the left. We also went down to 10 men at that point and we didn't seem to have the game to resist Ash who kept ploughing forward taking advantage of teh extra man. Still disappointing that we couldn't hold onto a two goal lead, but I would give Ash some credit for that. The pitch was more like a ploughed field (I wouldn't like to play on it in January) and probably typical of what's to come.

the CCL has quite a few teams that are kickers and whingers and do well in the league through long ball tactics and muscle, but I've just seen AFC Wallingford stroll part Reading Town 4-0 playing beautiful football, despite the fact that Reading tried to break the legs of our top scorer about 5 times. Teams in this league can't cope with decent footballing sides and try to kick and intimidate them, but Wallingford are one of the few teams that play real football. Hard luck against Ash, we could have done with you beating them

Oxford, - Monday, August 26, 2002 at 08:15:31 (PDT)
With no sour grapes, as Ash worked very hard and were surprisingly fit despite the look of them, I have to say they were one of the most unpleasant teams I have ever watched, certainly at this level. 1.) The constant whingeing to the referee was extraordinary. they even had 2 players booked for arguing against the most blatant of penalties. 2.) The constant aggression, spitting and cosntantly looking for a ruck, the endless posturing to Dons fans and intimidation was bloody appalling. 3.) The 3 stewards looked as if they were straight out of Prison. 4.) On speaking to one of our Stewards he told me that they were the most unhelpful and unpleasant team they had dealt with. When you compare the behaviour of Sandhurst last week it is very sad. They looked and behalved like a Sunday Morning Pub side which makes all the more reason for losing to them hard to take. People seem to be calling us the Man. Utd. of the CCL but we have just played them. Please god Wallingford are not successful because they play in the same way. Anyone else feel the same way? Is this something we have to get used to on a regular basis?

Dons are 5th in CCL after yesterday's win, although there are 1-2 teams with games in hand. Ash have 3 wins out of 3, so will be a big test on Monday. Disappointed that we struggled to put away Cove who looked a poor side, quite frankly, and worried that Ash will be too strong for us.

Today we play in the fa cup so who knows we might be in your neck of the woods shortly. The reason i support Grosvern in stead of Walsall (i was a season ticket holder) is the board at Walsall are more than happy to be a top second divison /struggling first division side in stead of a established first divson side. I cought the non-league bug 2 season's ago and have'nt looked back since. The players play for the love of the game which is some thing the milton keen mob won,t ever be able to understand. Hi Paul. Yes we did have the last laugh and over our no 1 rivals. Got to admit that in february we all had conceded 2nd place to Wolves. They were very consistent and 11 points ahead. But as we got a bit closer they started dropping points and i suppose every team has to have a bad spell. Fortunately due more to team spirit than anything else we did it and as it was over the wolves i guess it is an event that will be remembered for many a year. Team spirit will not get us through this season and we need a bit more class. But we did well at man utd and are building a good side. Latest news Lee Hughes to return.Good news but he lost alot of support when he went To Coventry. Anyway good luck today to AFC.

Good picture of the crowds outside Kingsmeadow and the Wanted Charles Koppel tshirt - think i'll have to order one! Just waiting for my no to football franchise t-shirt from wisa. This is to all you Dons fans out there: If you cant take what we write on the message board then why did you set it up in the first place. Surely a message board should be for positive and negative comments, but whenever you dont like one of the messages written you just delete it. Personally I think that you just cant hack it that AFC Wimbledon are rubbish and that theyve moved to a rubbish plave like Milton Keynes, so whenever the truth is written on your message board you just delete it. You must lead a really sad and pathetic life if thats what you do.

Whoever suggested protesting against Airdrie United (from what I've been told, Airdrie fans aren't the most pleasant bunch of lads anyway) is forgetting that franchising is nothing new up here. Livingston were formed from Meadowbank Thistle, and moved (granted not as far as SW19 to MK) from Edinburgh to the new town. Most people I discuss football with up here claim that as Livingston have done well, I shouldn't be concerned about WFC moving as they may do just as well. Probably because they are armchair Rangers and Celtic fans who never darken the door of a football ground. I did have sympathy with Airdrie at first when they were closed down, but the SFA got it right at first by moving everyone up one place and inviting applications for the vacant place. Why they then changed tact and allowed a franchise when Clydebank went bust, I'm not sure.

Why do people still feel the need to slag off what other people are doing (i.e. Free Thinker criticising WISA below)? As Kev says, they are doing it for nothing to (presumably) help people like him/her. Free Thinker, what are you doing to help AFCW or fight franchising? As for protesting at Airdrie, that's hardly a practical suggestion is it? Or are you offering to buy us all train tickets to Scotland?

Free Thinker, you'd be surprised what exactly is going on with what WISA are doing. Another thing, perhaps you would like to help me write the press releases? The hacks I send them to don't seem to mind them though, but if you can do any better, join in mate, join in.

Remember we're all doing this for nothing - as is Kris, Ivor and the others., - Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at 16:40:48 (PDT)
Free Thinker - fair enough, but it would help if you told WISA directly, either on the WISA chat site (which you are boycotting), via one of the committee (try chair@wisa.org.uk or askwisa@wisa.org.uk), or even bring it up at the OGM on Thursday. If you are a member (I assume you are), it is YOUR association, so make your feelings known to the committee and we can act upon it.

Just like to say that good site Paul, better than the drivel coming out of WISA nowadays. Has anyone else noticed the rather shambolic press releases and articles being put out by WISA these days? Ever since Kris and the like became involved full time with AFC it has gone to pot. If it is franchising you are against why do you not go to Airdrie United games each week, where their owner admitted to buying a Franchise???????????

Re boycott of ASDA; I would love for this to work but unfortunately I think it's a non starter. At the end of the day the "shopping purse strings" are normall y controlled by the ladies. And as regards the club "Never in financial (dire) straits", I would suggest that you take a look at the finances of club supposedly on the verge of bankruptcy owned by a multi-millionaire who 'removed' £7 million + of capital from the club and loaned it back at 10% interest a year. The club suffered from deliberately or totally inept (the former I suspect) bad financial management and, quite frankly, their pleas of poverty fall on deaf ears. If you want more information, I can supply you with the accounts.

To be honest Kevin, I think that asking people to boycott Asda may be going a bit too far. Just my opinion, but I reckon the credibility of our campaign could be damaged by such a call. We have the support of most football fans already, but how many of them are seriously going to change their day-to-day habits for us? I've always been a Tesco man anyway! :)

A lot of fans have started contacting us at WISA suggesting that a nationwide boycott of ASDA is in order. For those of you who may not yet know, ASDA are to fund the stadium at Milton Keynes with a huge superstore. A lot of people in Bletchley (where the site is) - are seriously concerned about the implications for their area - and are planning on filing objections with the local council. A large number of other fans have already contacted us asking if we're going to call for a boycott. What do you think? How practical is it?

Regarding capacities Feltham now play at the Feltham arena and it also has a plastic pitch. Regarding away atteendances I think that after the first few games our away attendances may drop a bit and away tickets will be easier to come by, but as you say Season ticket guarantees you entrance ay kingsmeaddow and should guarantee you a voucher for away games as well.

Thanks Paul - looking at the CCL ground capacities on the official AFCW site, I assume that these "vouchers" will become common practice this season. That suggests the ST is a good investment. I also saw some stange capacities like 10,000 for Feltham - as the only CCL I've ever played at, I can't believe that's true, unless my memory playing tricks on me!

Just been over to bigtissue.com where it is reported that hordes of football crazy MK residents made the short hop to Vicarage Road today. Yeah - did they *@$*! Also that Crozier was trumpeting about his opposition to the move. Maybe if we can bombard this guy with enough protest letters (again, I know) we can pressure him do something? How about UEFA and FIFA? Despite the success and optimism surrounding AFCW, I think we still have to fight the whole idea of franchising somehow - even if there is no chance of getting our old club back. I actually wrote to Koppell the other day to tell him exactly what I think of him (in the politest possible way of course). Will he read it? Possibly. Will he take any notice? Nope. Did it make me feel better? Oooooh Yes!

What a great result - first competitive game and a 2-1 win. Fantastic I wish I had been there. Thanks to Paul for keeping me updated - you are a star, Sir! Congratulations to everyone involved with AFCW, and of course a pat on the back for the supporters. Today I watched Edinburgh City win 2-1 in the Scottish cup preliminary round, and it was brilliant. You know, I think it is easy when watching so called 'top flight' football to lose sight of what the game is really about. Over the last couple of years I have felt really cheated having been fleeced to get in to some Prem/1st Div/SPL matches and seen some right dross featuring Overpaid nancy boys who just couldn't be arsed. Today - 22 blokes who all have jobs mon-fri, nowhere near as gifted technically, but they were GOING FOR IT. I will take effort and commitment over whingeing and showboating anyday - I could get used to this non-league lark!
