This afternoon we make the fairly short trip to Basingstoke and the matchday service will be in operation. I will be aiming to post team news by 14:45 and then all the action from kick off at 15:00. I understand that Radio Wdon may be starting an on the road service this afternoon so you should be able to hear full match commentary as well. To follow all the updates, join in the chat and listen to the commentary via the new stadium console click on the following link www.iploughlane.com

18/08/08 - Pictures From The Weekend

On Saturday Terry Buckman a fan who lives in Sussex and therefore doesn't get to as many games as he would like to was at the game to take pictures for Bognor. His pictures are always worth looking at if you haven't seen them yet you can view them by clicking here an example of Terry's photos are shown below: -

    Dean Mason after his goal

17/08/08 - Drama All The Way

Yesterday was a day of drama right to the end, I'm not talking about did Michael Phelps beat Serbia's Milorad Cavic in a photo finish or would the Men's 4 rowing squad chase down the Australians but going into the final 10 minutes could we get a second goal to break the 1-1 deadlock.

The first half wasn't as good as the football on Tuesday night but did have one moment of utter magic. On 24 minutes we won a corner on the main stand side at the Kingston Road end of the ground, Elliott Godfrey stepped up to take it and played it into the middle of the box after a couple of attempts to score the keeper punched it out of the box, luckily for us it came straight out to Tony Finn who was 25 yards out and he volleyed it straight back towards goal and into the back of the net.

Just as we looked like the scores would be level at half time Bognor scored a goal out of nothing a ball was crossed from the touchline about 30 yards out to the back post and a Bognor player was unmarked to score. So a bit of frustration at half time that we had let the lead slip but I was confident that we could turn the game round.

We clearly had the better of the second half but the Bognor Keeper pulled off a couple of excellent saves, one he was right at the edge of the goal and Sam Hatton had a shot into an empty net but somehow the keeper got across to get something onto it and was able to collect it.

We made a couple of changes with Chris Hussey and Dean Mason coming on and Dean Mason looks like a real live wire especially good for coming on late in games. With just 3 minutes left on the clock Tony Finn did some good work in the corner and the ball reached Jon Main who fired home but that wasn't the end of it and in the final minute Dean Mason ran at the defence managed to play the ball past the defender and fired into the back of the net to complete a 3-1 victory.

So after 3 games of the season we are 1 of only 3 teams who have won every game with the other two being Team Bath and Eastleigh. Their are no midweek games this week but with games next Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday lets hope we can keep the run going.

    16/08/08 - Bognor Matchday Service

    Team Bath v Thurrock

13/08/08 - Late, late, Late Victory

Last night we beat Thurrock 2-1 in a game that finished at around 22:00. Thurrock were stuck north of the Thames with the QE2 Bridge closed and ended up arriving at Kingsmeadow at 19:40 by the time they were ready it was 20:10 when Kick off was made. We were attacking the Tempest End in the first half.

As on Saturday the play was so much different to last season with the ball being played around of the ground and was really pleasant to watch, but then on 15 minutes Thurrock had a corner it was played to the back post headed back across goal and headed in from close range so we were 1-0 down. This was also the score at half time.

When the team came out for the second half the majority of the supporters from the Tempest End had moved round to the Kingston Road end and a good atmosphere was in evidence. We continued to have chances but a big, strong Thurrock side were throwing them self in front of the ball.

With 5 minutes to go Chris Hussey took a throw about 18 yards out and the ball came to Elliott Godfrey and he fired home to send the ground wild. Rather than sitting back we pushed forward and with just a minute left on the clock Chris Hussey crossed the ball and Luke Garrard who had come forward into the box and got on the end of it to fire it past the keeper.

The crowd of 2,786 obviously went crazy almost as crazy as we did at the end of last season. This was a really good performance and showed that by playing our game we can get results.

12/08/08 - First Home Game Of The Season

Tonight we have our first home game of the season when we take on Thurrock, After the update problems at the weekend we expect the service to be up and running tonight, don't forget that Radio Wdon will be in operation tonight so if you cant make he match and are near a computer you can listen to full match commentary from the game.

    Chelmsford City 3-0 Fisher Athletic
    Havant & Waterlooville 3-2 Weston-S-Mare
Worcester City 2-0 St Albans City

10/08/08 - Match of The Day

The Newport County website has put up some video highlights of yesterday's game and I think it's a fair reflection of the game. They seemed to have a few chances in the first half but almost everything in the second half is us. you can view the video or download it (it's 20mb in size) by clicking here.

    10/08/08 - What A Way To Start

Yesterday for the first time in a long time it really felt like a proper football day, getting up and leaving home really early then a long coach journey with the traditional stop off at a over priced service station, seeing supporters of other teams all doing similar things.

On arrival at Newport the turnstiles weren't open so we had to wait outside in the rain for about 10 minutes but once they did open we made our way onto a nice banked terrace down one side of the running track and with the main stand housing other supporters it was a decent turn out. The players came out to warm up and got a good reception.

Just before the start of the match a minute silence was held after a player of Grays Athletic had died over the summer. The players of both side shook hands in n a scene reminiscent of champions League or World Cup games. I don't know if this will be done every game or just at the start of the season.

The opening 20 minutes was a case of both teams finding their feet Newport probably had the better of it, at times it almost looked as we were still in Ryman League Mentality where we were trying to get rid of the ball at the earliest opportunity where this wasn't always needed as you had a few extra seconds to consider the ball you were going to play.

On 37 minutes We took the lead when John Main scored a header and the celebrations on the terrace were a bit mad. Half Time was greeted with large cheers as the players left the pitch. Although we hadn't got straight into the game most of our fans near me were pleased with the way we had played and hoped that the second half would continue with us leading.

The second half continued as the later part of the first half ended with us having the better of the play and on 58 minutes Jon Main scored a cracker of a goal when the ball was played into him on the corner of the box and he curled the ball past the keeper. This bought an element of relief as we could begin to relax a bit more on the terrace but the players continued to be focused on the on pitch action.

On 65 minutes Newport made a substitution when Kevin Cooper was replaced and the AFC Wimbledon fans all stood and applauded him as he left the pitch he turned and acknowledged this reception. Lets Hope he is involved when they come to Kingsmeadow in December.

The scoring wasn't over yet and on 75 minutes later Jon Main scored his and our 3rd goal of the game he received the ball central just inside the box with his back to goal turned and placed it under the on rushing keeper. Even when they got their consolation goal it didn't dampen the spirit even with all the rain that had been falling.

The Journey home seemed to be a lot quicker and all round it was a good day lets hope we can continue this performance as the season progresses.

10/08/08 - Problems With The Updates

Yesterday afternoon just after half time we had a problem with the update service and 'Mike A' who is the technical person behind the service was at the game and therefore was unable to do anything about it. I tried to use a backup plan of posting to the guest book but that then crashed as well. Unfortunately it looks like the update service will be down on Tuesday evening but a substantial improvement will be made by the weekend and so should be the last of the problems this season. Sorry for any inconvenience.

09/08/08 - No More Rehearsals It Starts here

I'm not talking about the Olympics although they have apparently been looking forward to this day for a while as well. So a long trip down the M4 to Wales and we start the Season at Newport County. A chance to see Dean Holdsworth and Kevin Cooper (Mark 1). I will be doing updates and a reflection tomorrow as I think I will be back late from the game.

    14/07/08 - Lesson Two

Tuesday night sees Lesson Two in the learning process of let's work out who's on the ball now, and this lesson takes place at Met Police's ground. I hope to do more updates than I did on Saturday and maybe even a few goals. To follow the updates either click the matchday link above or use the new Matchday console by clicking this link.

    13/07/08 - The Learning Process

Yesterday afternoon it was definatley a case of the Learning process as we tried to recognise new players and also old players who had changed their hair styles over the summer, why can't we have more players like Jason Goodliffe?

I thought I was aware of all the new players names so when I was given the team news, split between a first half team, and a second half team it was confusing to find out we still had a couple of trialists on display. We still have a couple of players missing and therefore so might not see them until nearer the start of the season.

One of the problems with the first pre-season game of the season is that the Management team want to see as many people as possible on the pitch so by the time you begin to recognise them it's time for a new batch of players to come into the game, this obviously made updates very difficult but with 2 games this week the players will be split into 2 groups so we should see more match time for them and a chance to get to know playing styles a bit more.

On the playing side we played a 4-3-3 formation and although the grass on the pitch was very long we played it about on the ground as the majority of the time. In the first 30 minutes John Main looked in good shape and managed to beat the defence on a couple of occasions. A number of youngsters were involved and they all seemed to do very well.

Pre-season games are always difficult to judge as the players have spent most of the training sessions on ensuring that their fitness levels are at the right levels and it's in the games where they get to practice playing styles in a semi-proper situation in the build up to the start of the season in 4 weeks time.

12/07/08 - Major Makeover for Matchday Service

Let's cast our minds back, in the run-up to the play-off final (remember that) a few of us were worried that the server wouldn't cope with people trying to ind out what was going on. Well Geek Wizard "Mike A" put some code together that would automatically update on people's screen and on the whole it worked well.

Once the post Playoff Final Hangover's had cleared work started immediately on plans for this season on improving the Internet experience for people who cant get to games and after hours of hard work we have reached that point. Their are still a few bits that need to be done and if you haven't seen any of the summer test, I hope you will be very impressed.

First of all I will continue to provide updates to every game I'm at so you will still get all my strange messages but they have added a couple of auto correction facilities.

Secondly if you wish to view on the site here click the Matchday button above and sit back and enjoy the messages. In tests within 5 seconds of me sending a message it appeared on the screen. So no more pressing the F5 button and wondering why the system is crashing?

The major change is that we are now offering an all singing (literally) all dancing console where you during the season will be able to see updates, scores from other games as they happen, chat with fellow supporters, listen to Radio Wdon at home games and join in the singing. Confused well lets have a look at it.

So like the look of it? Let's explain how you get their. The URL a present is http://www.luddweb.com/updates/index.php and if you have a tag for the guest book for the moment click Season Ticket Holders and then enter your tag code and select the character and shirt style you want to wear on the terrace. If you don't have a tag code click Wimbledon fans and enter your name and design the character that you want to be. Now click enter Stadium and you will take your place on the terrace.

Each Terrace can hold 200 people. The matchday updates will appear on the left hand side if you click the update tab, if an event happens on the another tab the tab name will turn red so you can click on it to see what has happened. At the top of the page you have the current score and also the number of people who are currently watching with you.

Want to interact with people be on the chat tab in the middle of the screen and type a message in the box press the white chat button next to the box and it will appear for everyone to view. This is going to move very fast and I imagine after a goal we will have a lot of "Yes" or "Goal" messages but it should help you be part of the experience.

On the right hand side of the screen we have the tools section click the Wdon button at home games and you get the Radio Wdon commentary. Click the sounds link and a built in player with loads of chants appears click them and it will sing that message on your screen give it a try and turn it on or off.

At away games I wont be able to view this so wont be able to answer any questions asked to me with regards to my updates but I think this will take us to the next level of matchday service. Hope you enjoy it and give it a try this afternoon.

Late update - Since I took that screen shot last night the Tea Bar has opened and prices are nothing to do with me.

    12/07/08 - Pre-Season Games Start Here

This afternoon our we have our first pre-season game of the season for the First Team Squad when we visit Croydon Athletic. So after the last few weeks of training and the squads weekend away to bath but now we get the chance to see the work on the pitch.

One of the joys about pre-season games from a supporter point of view is trying to spot the various new players and even players that have changed their look over the summer, on this thought keep a look out for Sam Hatton this afternoon.

The updates will be in operation this afternoon and see the above story for some important news about a makeover that has taken place and will also make the updates appear on your screen faster. I will do my best to get player names right but it may take a few weeks before I manage this.

02/07/08 - And Here They Are

The Fixtures were announced at 11:00 today and on the whole they aren't bad.

We start with a trip to Newport, the wales version before home games against Thurrock and Bognor. 01/07/08 - Are You Ready For The Fixtures?

19/05/08 - Jason Goodliffe At The Cafe Royal

On Saturday evening it was the end of season / 20th Anniversary dinner of the FA Cup Final victory and for any body their the most memorable thing was the season review by Jason Goodliffe. Fortunately one of our supporters was quick off the mark and got her camera and filmed it in video format.

It was very dark so it mainly Jason's voice you can hear but this is very important as it the delivery that makes this speech even better. The whole speech goes on for just under 9 minutes and is 13mb in size. So thanks to Zoe for the Video and then Jane L has put it into a word transcript so if you don't have video / sound you can read the speech as well.

The only part that was missed was the very start when Jason says he was called by Terry and joined the club and then they were introduced to pre-season running on Richmond common.

18/05/08 - Date For The New Fixtures?

Having a look around the web I managed to com across a discussion about when the fixtures for next season may be released.

It appears the Football league will announce theirs during the week of 9th June, apparently the Conference usually announce their fixtures on the Thursday of the following week, so if this is the case they should be announced on the 19th June.

10/05/08 - The Changing Face Of Blue Square South

As you may be aware the make up of Blue Square North and South isn't fully known yet as their is the possibility that a couple of changes may happen to clubs either in the Blue Square Premier or Blue Square South division Namely i looks like Halifax Town may fold and Cambridge City May be relegated due to ground grading problems.

When the regional split was made it was assumed that teams relegated from the premier division would fit nicely into either the North or South Division, a few years down the line now and we are in the situation where the original line that was made across the country no longer fits and a few clubs sit right on that line.

At the moment 4 teams could fall into either league these are Boston United, Kings Lynn, Worcester City and Redditch United and almost every day their are rumors of who will end up in which division, one day it will be both teams to the west in the north, the following it will be the teams in the East. Today we have Kings Lynn and Worcester in the South but this could still change.

A provisional set-up will be submitted by the FA this week and then clubs will have a time limit to submit any objections prior to the League AGM's where the line up are confirmed. One man who has his finger of the pulse and usually is very accurate is Tony Kempster and if you want to see what he currently thinks the line up you can by clicking here.

    09/05/08 - Missing Football Yet?

Well obviously not just yet as the Reserves are at Kingsmeadow on Saturday afternoon but if you are thinking ahead to the new season 4 pre-season games have been announced and they are as follows: -

Date Against Venue Kick Off Time
    19 July Brentford Home 15:00
22 July Walton Casuals Away 19:45
23 July Colliers Wood United Away 19:45
26 July Salisbury City Home 15:00

More fixtures are due to be announced and I will add them once they are known.

    08/05/08 - Season Tickets For 2008/09

The details of season Tickets for next season have been posted on the official site so if you are looking at finding out about the prices and applying for one please lick the graphic below: -

    Season Tickets

    08/05/08 - Hampton Next Season

Tonight Hampton & Richmond lost 2-0 To Eastbourne Borough in the Blue Square South Play-off final so good luck to Eastbourne next season and it also looks like Hampton could be our closest team and therefore the team we play on Boxing Day and New Years Day.

    07/05/08 - Setanta Shield

I have been looking at the details of the Setanta Shield for this season 2007/08 as I think most people knew it was a regional competition starting with The Blue Square North Clubs and the Blue Square South clubs and then the Blue Square Premier clubs enter at the later stages. Well from What I can make out the first couple of rounds are even more regional so you are guaranteed a local derby and therefore reduces expenses for clubs and potentially better attendances.

My early guess that could be totally wrong would be if Hampton don't get promoted in the play off we will face them otherwise we could face Fisher but we will have to wait and see. The first round starts at the beginning of October.

    07/05/08 - Vote Jason

Last week I posted a link for the South London Press Player of The Year and the fact that Jason Goodliffe was 2nd 5% behind the Leader the Crystal Palace Goalkeeper, what I didn't realised was that the link I had contained an error and was the page you go to after you have voted. Jason is now joint top and it's close between the two players so please vote again, from different machines if you can do the correct link is http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/tn/Sport.cfm?id=6169

    06/05/08 - What Looks Better?

No in-depth Analysis, Not  lot of text just two graphics, make up your own mind.

    06/05/08 - Player Departures

After the elation of the weekend disappointment is going to occur for a number of players over the next few day as they find out if they are part of Terry Brown's plans for 2008/09 Blue Square South campaign. One of the first details of a player not being retained came from th man who scored our winning goal on Saturday when "Mark Debolla posted a thank you message on his Face book page and said he hadn't been offered Terms for the new season" expect a number of other situations like this in the next few days although if terry releases a player he has obviously got someone lined up to take his place.

If it's true that Mark is leaving it no better way for him to sign off than how he did on Saturday so Thanks very much Mark you have a very special place in our history.

    05/05/08 - Frequently Asked Questions

Since 5pm on Saturday a number of questions have been asked so I thought I would add some quick frequently asked questions as mentioned below I will expanded on these over the next few days and if any more come up I will add them.

    A) When does the new Season Start - The Blue Square South division starts one week earlier than the Rymans League and usually the second week of August for the 2007/08 season the Blue Square South started 11th August when Ryman Started 18th August so it could start on the 9th August but this has yet to be confirmed.
    B) Do we wear squad numbers and names - Teams don't have squad numbers or names on Shirts in Blue Square South and North.
    C) Is their a league cup - The Setanta Shield is the League Cup and in the early stage is regionalised before it gets to a stage where you could face a fellow team from the South, North or National division. I will post more on this soon.
    D) Will we be on TV - The obvious way is via the Setanta Shield as 1 game in each round is on Setanta TV but plans for next season haven't been announced yet but we will keep an eye on this.
    E) What round of the FA Cup Do we enter? - If this year is anything to go by we enter 1 round later in the 2nd qualifying round last year 5 Blue Square South sides made it to the 1st Round proper.
    F) What round of the FA Trophy Do we enter? - If this year is anything to go by we enter 2 rounds later in the 3rd qualifying round.
    G) When are local derby's played - Rather than playing derby games on Boxing Day and Easter Monday the Blue Square leagues play them on Boxing Day and then New Years Day so it's two almost back to Back games.

    05/05/08 - It's Going To Be A Busy Summer

Traditionally once the season reaches an end the site goes into a relaxing period between now and pre-season but I will try and do an update at least everyday as we start to look and plan for next season in the Blue Square South, Once the line up of teams is done I will do a preview of each team so please come back regularly to see what is going on.

05/05/08 - Slowly Returning To Earth

We are now about 46 hours since the full time whistle at Staines and I'm sure most of us have been in a dreamworld since then. I think I'm capable of doing a round up now so here goes.

I was amaziningly not nervous about the game in the past two years I had been really nervous but this year I took the stance of what will be will be. I arrived at the ground at 13:00 and their was a good number of people already their and so when the team coach arrived at 13:20 the players were greeted by a terefic reception. Terry Brown was one of the first people off the coach and he just had a stunned look on his face to be greeted by such a large number of supporters.

The Turnstiles opened at 13:30 and we all went into the ground looking for the best place to view the game from. I took up a position just by our dugout but where I could see both goals and the ground was filling up nicely. The team were greeted to a great reception during warm up and then as they came out at the start of the game.

The first half itself was very end to end and the big decision of the half was when John main was taken down just outside the box and the Staines Captain was only booked. Just to make it worse on 36 minutes the same player headed in from a corner to put us 1-0 down.

At half time most of us were thinking please not again, not a 3rd year running of losing in the playoffs at Half time everyone said we needed more mussel up front and it was great to see that Terry Brown sent Nic McDonnell n to create problems. The second half continued  to be end to end but the more time went on the more we began to think that it clearly wasn't our day.

Terry Brown always said that he would pick a team to do a job and his wild card this game was Mark Debolla on the bench and he introduced him on 66 minutes into the game. With 12 minutes left the fear level for us supporters really began to set in and then a long thrown by Sam Hatton was dropped by the keeper to Nic McDonnell he crossed it low across the box and Luis Cumbers headed it home. At first major confusion occurred we went sure who had scored and then it looked like their keeper may be sent off as he had already been booked and he charged at the ref but the ref just told him to calm down.

With just 10 minutes left the crowd were really behind the team and then it appeared that the linesman had awarded us a penalty he was waving his flag like crazy but yet again the ref decided that he was in charge and would make all the calls so nothing was given.

Then 86 minutes were on the clock and we were awarded a free kick around 25 yards out and Mark De Bolla decided it was his to take he lined it up hit it over the wall and then hit the back of the net down really low. The players went crazy the fans went even more crazy and do you know what my first thought was? Please don't conceded, it's a strange things that go through your mind.

When the 4th official held up the board to say 4 minutes injury time I wasn't overly worried they won a corner and the goal keeper came up to create a problem but his clearance went backwards and out of play. It was then a case to watch the ref when he would signal PROMOTION. The whistle blew and the pitch was invaded it was total relief that we had done what we had set out to do. It was a chance to find friends and celebrate or just hug total strangers.

I got on to th pitch and knew a number of people I wanted to celebrate with were in the stand so whilst everyone ran to the tunnel I went straight across and found some people, but then a lovely surprise sitting at the back of the stand with a huge smile on his face was Robbie Earle who had arrived with David Barnard both were so pleased that we had been promoted and once again it was very special that they could share the day.

As we left the ground it started to rain but who cared, and on the journey to Kingsmeadow we even took a wrong turning but it didn't matter we arrived back at Kingsmeadow and it was packed just time to grab a bottle of Champers before the team arrived to a heroes reception. The players went to put their bags in the dressing room and all returned with bottles of champagne. somehow i managed to be right in from of Jason Goodliffe as he opened his bottle of champagne and got completely covered in it but I couldn't of been happier.

Kingsmeadow continued to rock Ivor interviewed a number of players and Terry Brown on the stage before an evening of drinking and dancing started, We are Wimbledon and then the Beatles "Yellow & Blue, Yellow & Blue Wombles" were the first tracks, what do you mean thats the not the name of the song? :)

I eventually staggered away from Kingsmeadow about 11:00 but not before I had celebrated with a number of fans, we have such a special club and everybody should take credit for this.

Then Sunday was spent reading various reports and for us on face book swapping stories and looking at each others pictures some from the link I posted yesterday. Watching Video and keep pinching myself that we did win and therefore get promoted. Then Just as I started to return a bit I read the O/S and saw the comments from Beasant & Sanchez and that pushed be back to the cloud 12 level again.

    03/05/08 - Come On Wombles

This afternoon's game is just huge the simple situation is the winner gets promoted to the "Blue Square South Division" the match has to be decided this afternoon and therefore we could have extra time and penalties.

If your one of the lucky people who got a ticket make sure we get behind the team from the start to the very end of the game Terry and the team really appreciate our help and it encourages them during games especially if we are under pressure.

If you don't have a ticket I hope you can follow the game via the various update services see below and above as we try and cover all bases.

If you don't have a ticket for Saturday's game and are wondering how to follow the action you have two main ways the first is the Radio Wdon server should be up and running although it wont be our commentary team we are piggybacking Radio Wye service as they have a limited capacity.

I will be doing the updates and hope that these will manage to cope with the pressure but more about this either Friday Night or Saturday Morning.

01/05/08 - All Good Fun At Staines Tonight

Although I had my ticket sorted I went over tonight to pick up a couple for people that didn't have them, these people are Season Ticket Holders. I arrived at Staines at about 5:40 after getting a cab direct from the station with two other wombles.

On arrival I reckon about 150 people were in front of me and it was a fun hour and a quarter as we waited for the office to open. A Staines Official came out every so offer to inform people the tea bar was open and how long before the ticket office opened.

By the time the ticket office opened I reckon 350 fans were waiting and it was entertaining when Staines Manager and players turned up and the car park was already full. By my estimate 95% of the supporters waiting appeared to be our supporters and with around 850 tickets on sale that will give you an idea of the additional numbers that we will have at the game.

When the ticket office opened thee service was very quick and everybody who wanted a ticket got one by the end of the evening apparently less than 20 tickets were left.
